One important thing is this thing does not check the current going through the charger. I plugged this device before turning the ignition on, it starts to charge the device, but during the period where car drains power from the battery to start, the current decreases which might damage your device. Just be aware. Otherwise good product.I find this item to be very useful for long drives, especially when you want to keep using the player after the long drive. The end piece fits into the lighter hole with a nice snap to it so it doesn't fall out, ever. I had this problem before with a discman charger quite some time ago. I do wish that the cord wasn't coiled. Where i set my mp3 player makes a bit of a stretch and it almost pulls my player out of the pocket that i have my player sitting in. But i suppose the coiled cord is for incase the cord is snagged on someone trying to get out of the car and doesn't rip the charger out of the lighter which may cause damage, or even damage your mp3 player.

Well, my risk paid off. This product is fantastic and well worth the extra money.
The first part that tipped me off that this was probably a quality product was the detailed information about its power capabilities how many watts it can output (normal and surge), conversion efficiency, how much current it draws when it's just plugged in "idle", etc. None of the other products on Amazon list anything like this, other than maximum watts. But the watts this outputs is easily double anything else I saw as well 220, vs 100 or less for most of the others.
I also noted this product had a cooling fan, which I didn't see on any of the others. This made me optimistic, since I read about overheating problems with so many other products.
I haven't used it in "real world" situations yet, but I will need to in the future, so I did some pretty reasonable tests at home. I let my smartphone's battery fully deplete, as well as my laptop's battery. I then plugged this inverter into my car and plugged both my phone and my laptop into the inverter. I let them sit there for about 2 hours, after which I checked on them and both of them had full battery, and the unit was not warm at all (the fan works!). And my car started when I turned the key, so it didn't drain too much battery. Very cool!
The only negatives are that it's a bit large (I was planning to keep it in my glove box but it's too big to keep in there with all the other stuff that's already in there) and that it doesn't have built in USB ports. A number of the other inverters on Amazon have built in USB which is pretty nice. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it's a feature that I wish this one had.
Other than that, a very solid product. Remember you get what you pay for. Spend an extra $20 and buy a quality piece of hardware!

I just bought a 2011 MBP, top of the line 15". The MBP was very expensive, and I wanted to make sure that this power source was safe-it is. I like the Belkin brand, but the item I got was not the same as the picture. The cable does not have lock-release buttons; which was the only reason I bought this item. I didn't need the shuffle cable nor the wall adapter, just the ipod charger cable. It's way too much trouble to return, so I'll just give it away, but beware.Additionally, the ipod/itouch will not sync using the supplied USB cable.

Back around July 13th, I stumbled upon a very interesting Kickstarter project by Fenix International, the ReadySet Solar Kit. The purpose behind this project was to develop a quick, easy, and durable charging solution. Such a kit would be extremely useful during natural disasters when power is limited. I donated and helped fund the project; and thus, I have received early access to the kit.
Being a tech geek, having an off-the-grid charging solution has been my holy grail. Solar technology up until the last 2 years was promising but lacking in efficiency rates. However, progress recently in solar cell technology has helped advance solar development tremendously in the portable realm and has sparked the recent rise of the social funded projects. Kickstarter is helping to crowdfund several of these projects.
Contents, Packaging, and Build Quality
I donated $225 for the project and therefore received the standard kit. My box contained the following items:
ReadySet Intelligent Battery (12V, 9000mAh battery)
15-watt Solar Panel
AC Electric Wall Charger (USA plug)
3-watt High Efficiency LED Light
USB Universal Clip Charger
User Manual
The packaging is excellent and even sported a thoughtful handle. Everything is packaged securely. The solar panel has a peak rate of 15w. I have yet to fully test it since it has been cloudy this whole week. I will post an update to this when I get some sunny days. The ReadySet team says it takes 8-10 hours in direct sunlight which seems very acceptable. The panel is very solid feeling and a bit heavier than I expected. It has two power leads that easily connect to the main ReadySet battery unit.
The ReadySet charging unit feels durable. It has 2 x 12 volt front car charging slots, 2 usb ports, several led lights, and a single button. The underside area has two leads that let you connect your AC charger which allows full traditional on-the-grid charging in 4-6 hours. Additionally, there is a Velo bike kit available that allows you to use a bike to recharge the unit's battery as well.
Recharge Methods:
1. On-the-grid via an AC Adapter
2. Solar panel (included or other types)
3. Velo bike recharge kit (not yet released but coming soon!)
The device is not fancy, but I believe that is the way it should be. The device is no way unattractive, and all items feel solid and sturdy. The solar panel can be exposed to rain and water but should be stored in a dry area. The ReadySet unit itself appears to be rugged but should not be put in direct water or wet areas.
Charging
The ReadySet states that once charged it can charge an iPhone about 10 times. For my first test I charged an iPhone 4 from dead to 100%, and I was able to charge my Dell XT Laptop from dead to 50% before I depleted all the juice. I used a portable AC inverter to charge my laptop so that too would be drawing power. Getting a fully powered mobile phone and half charged computer from a solar charging system seems exceptional to me.
There is also an included LED light bulb that plugs in and allows you use the ReadySet for 10 hours worth of light.
Conclusions
Having the three various charging methods make this kit powerfully useful. For example, I plan to use this kit next summer while camping to keep my mobile devices and radio powered. It will be an essential component of my emergency stores.
Availability is still limited to early Kickstarter backers; however, availability should open up within the next few months to the public. Once it does, I believe this project will be very successful. If you have ever thought about having an off-the-grid charger or just an emergency portable charger, this is a great and versatile kit.

I live in NJ, and recently we've been losing power a lot. Rather than spend a fortune on a generator, I picked up a ReadySet for the important stuffkeeping our cell phones, hotspot, and iPad charged, and a light for the bathroom. Most often the outages last a day or so, but when they go for more than a week, it's great to have the solar panel to keep the battery topped off.I also keep the USB battery charger in my backpack at all times for charging my camera and phone batteries on the road without lugging around a bunch of extra chargers.
For a fraction of the cost of a generator (and without the maintenance or hassle of dealing with gas cans) I can maintain my digital life, and more importantly my marriage (by not missing the toilet in the pitch black) when the power goes out. It's cheap plastic, no hiding that.
It can take a load and it performs well. You can water resist any inverter, just take off the plastic case and spray clear coat on the board. Then heat it to 200* for 2hrs to cure it (just run an inverter with a load for two hours).
EVERY modified sine wave inverter is most efficient when it's running HALF it's rated Nominal load. It's just the way the circuit and transistors work. This unit is 71% at half and less than 65 at full. That's GARBAGE! Cobra units are over 80% on both and Pure Sine are over 90% on both.
It's overpriced for what it is. Don't bother. I really was expecting something much better. I'm giving it three stars because the board, solder and parts used are good quality but it's a dated design that's not efficient. 10amps in gives you .5amps out (DC to AC) or in another way 120 watts consumed in DC power gives you 60 watts out. You loose half the power. It also falls really short in capacitance capabilities or in english starting an electric motor from a stop (press the trigger on a drill that's startup draw or Capacitance). The PEAK is usually where that rating comes in but a 1/2" hammer drill from Milwaukee blew out the safety shutdown every time and it's rated for 500w.
SOLAR users: Buy a more efficient model. You don't need to spring for Pure Sine unless you intend to run sensitive electronics (computernot laptop, LCD TV, cable box, anything with a radio in it, etc...).

The only thing I was tryin to power was a heating pad for my disabled husband while we was camping, so I know the watts was plenty for that. This is a great product. I had to keep my wound vac plugged in while traveling. This worked perfectly. We did find one a lot cheeper at Sam's.
PowerFilm 50W Foldable Solar Panel Charger
I will clarify this one. I did call manufacturer to confirm this, Powerfilm does *NOT* manufacture a 50 watt panel. They did manufacture a batch of 60 watt panels that did not meet output specification and instead of throwing them out, they printed some new product labels and derated them to 50W. The physical specifications are identical to that of the 60W (size weight etc), but output is less, the actual measured output from these typically varies between 50-60W. The 60W panels usually have a MINIMUM output of 60W. Unless you need a guaranteed 60W (3.5-3.6A), these are being sold at half the cost per watt of a 60W panel. You could literally buy two for the same price of a 60W and get at least 100W output. At the price, this is a no-brainer.

This is not a correct itemlet me explain.The photo indicates a 60w powerfilm panel.
If the photo is correct or not, powerfilm product line does not offer a 50w version of the folding panels.
So it begs the question: What is it? Well I did not order it just to find out (I do have every model available).
My guess: it is a 60w version that has less than rated output, and perhaps powerfilm company is liquidating them for that reason, but I am only speculating. So if someone actually purchases this item, give some feedback please!

BUT: if it is powerfilm, it is very highly rated by me. If it is powerfilm it will output 16volts, and at 50watts (if indeed it is 50w) the current will be about 3 amps. Again it is distressing that this information is not published, along with the model (which all powerfilm products have).
Furthermore: The WEIGHT of this item correlates with the 60w version (model F15-3600)

If you've been fooling around with solar power long enough like me, this one was a breeze to set up. My only regret was not getting the larger 30A unit but I am gaining enough data to spec out a much larger system. MPPT is the way to go even with "low powered" systems like mine. I've read some comments suggesting MPPT is more useful for over 400W but for my situation with low loads, high solar intensity, high temperatures, overcast but bright, light to heavy rain about mid day to cool panels and other tropical features, this is the sweet spot for MPPT.

I had no idea what I was missing until I bought this iPod charger.
I also own the Monster iCarPlay cassette adapter which plugs into the headphone input on top of the iPod. Unfortunately, the sound quality has been mediocre at best. It was also very bothersome and annoying to have to adjust the volume controls on both the iPod and the car stereo.
Enter the Ultra-Low Profile iCharger...
...not only does this device charge the iPod, but there is an input for your cassette adapter on the charger. What it allows is for the connection of the iPod to the cassette adapter via the dock connection. Now, I'm not sure why, but when you connect your cassette adapter to the dock connection instead of the headphone input on the iPod, the sound quality drastically improves! The sound is clear and crisp, not loud, blown-out, or hissy. When you connect your iPod in this fashion (via the dock connection) the volume is fixed, so you only have to adjust the volume on your car stereo.
I have no idea why this feature is not listed nor explained in detail on the packaging of the iCharger but it is the best part of product and justifies the rather hefty price tag.

If you want to listen to your iPod (with dock) in the car and have a cassette player in the car, you need this device.I'd initially tried the Belkin product that does much the same thing... powers the iPod and allows access to via the dock to the line out on the iPod... but the Belkin version adds an amplifier to the line out. And, that amplifier colors the sound (muddy, bass heavy, and nasty!) and easily distorts. Very much defeats the purpose of getting to the line out. If the volume was lowered on the Belkin, I needed to push the volume on my car stereo to get to acceptable levels. When that happened, tape hiss was prominent.
Enter the Monster iPod charger. This product does not include an amplifier... you just get access to the line out signal. Just connect your cassette adapter to the charger, drop the adapter into the cassette player, and enjoy the sound. The volume is totally controlled by the car stereo.
The difference between the Belkin product and the Monster? Night and day. Sound from the Monster charger was clean, crisp, not muddied, not distorted. Much, much improved sound quality.
The only thing I would improve about this product is the connection to the iPod. It's a bit of a tight fit when the iPod is in it's usual case (basic DLO case).

This is an excellent car charger for your iPod. It is sturdy and well designed. Even though it does not indicate this anywhere on the packaging, it works great for an iPod mini as well. I really like the fact that I can plug my cassette adapter into this charger, rather than into the earphone jack of my iPod mini, to play tunes through my car's speaker system. Before I used this charger, I could not always get the plug from my cassette adaptor to fit snugly into my iPod mini's earphone jack.This is NOT a wireless system for your iPod to play in your car; I believe the reviewer below from Texas posted under the wrong product.
