I was a bit nervous about ordering this since there were zero reviews for it at the time, but all the other inverters for sale on Amazon had awful reviews either they overheat quickly, or they have a really nasty smell to them. Those other products are also a lot cheaper than this one typically $15 to $25. I figured it was worth trying a more expensive unit and if it was bad, I could always return it.

Well, my risk paid off. This product is fantastic and well worth the extra money.

The first part that tipped me off that this was probably a quality product was the detailed information about its power capabilities how many watts it can output (normal and surge), conversion efficiency, how much current it draws when it's just plugged in "idle", etc. None of the other products on Amazon list anything like this, other than maximum watts. But the watts this outputs is easily double anything else I saw as well 220, vs 100 or less for most of the others.

I also noted this product had a cooling fan, which I didn't see on any of the others. This made me optimistic, since I read about overheating problems with so many other products.

I haven't used it in "real world" situations yet, but I will need to in the future, so I did some pretty reasonable tests at home. I let my smartphone's battery fully deplete, as well as my laptop's battery. I then plugged this inverter into my car and plugged both my phone and my laptop into the inverter. I let them sit there for about 2 hours, after which I checked on them and both of them had full battery, and the unit was not warm at all (the fan works!). And my car started when I turned the key, so it didn't drain too much battery. Very cool!

The only negatives are that it's a bit large (I was planning to keep it in my glove box but it's too big to keep in there with all the other stuff that's already in there) and that it doesn't have built in USB ports. A number of the other inverters on Amazon have built in USB which is pretty nice. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it's a feature that I wish this one had.

Other than that, a very solid product. Remember you get what you pay for. Spend an extra $20 and buy a quality piece of hardware!

I just bought a 2011 MBP, top of the line 15". The MBP was very expensive, and I wanted to make sure that this power source was safe-it is. I had a need for getting power while in a car and/or plane, but the Apple adapter said it only worked on planes. Plus, it's $80. I tried this, and it works fine. I traveled all over Europe in cars and planes, plus the trans-Atlantic flight, without a single problem. The power block that comes with the MBP already has a surge protector built in, so this device is all you need if you're looking for portable power. Only downside is its size, which is bulky for travel. Otherwise, recommended.

Tried to use this with A PS3 which needs 200 watts and this just was not enough to turn it on. The green light would turn on and then turn off. I bought the 1000 watt by cobra and it worked great. nice unit but too small for my use

I am a tie dye vendor and do a lot of out door vending shows that don't provide electricity. This is just what I needed to keep my lap top charged. I had one of another brand and had trouble with it over heating.
