We bought this at Walmart a few months ago with little to no research ( which isn't like me at all) so I was very surprised to find the

unit works like a champ. It was bought specifically to start a riding mower whose battery always seems to be dead. Far easier to take this unit to the mower then to try jump starting it with a vehicle.I was delighted it worked so well. I was given the chance to help a stranded motorist with a dead battery as few weeks ago and thought here is a chance to see if it can crank the big trucks not just the mower.

I remember the look on the guys face when I pulled this from the back seat of my truck..He said that little toy isn't going to

start this truck..I simply hooked the terminals red to + and Black to the asked him to turn over the engine..truck started without the slightest

hesitation...the look on his face was well worth the money we paid for this unit.

The operation is simple enough..after the unit is fully charged per the manual..hook the terminals up to the battery posts and turn the knob to the on position

boom ,,done ..There are a row of led lights but they are high up on unit with no real way to aim or focus the light which might be handy changing a tire at night.

There is also usb port for small devices which is cool.

The only thing I didn't like is the way this plugs into the wall (for charging/recharging)..the prongs simply flip up from the back ..this makes it easy for the unit to not make contact..a small cord would have been nice..maybe one can bought ..I don't know.

So all in all it's a excellent unit and I plan to buy at least one for each vehicle for emergencies and we are getting my dad one for Christmas as well.

This is going to be my second battery charger of this brand; I got my first second hand and I have never had an issue with it. This is a great resource for not only jumping car batteries, but for power outages as well; the USB port makes and the 12 volt adapter makes it easy to plug in multiple devices for charging and the built in LED light is surprisingly bright given its size. It's light in weight so transporting is no issue as well and the battery life is great (I haven't yet fully drained the charge after multiple uses and hours). I used this on a camping trip, during Hurricane Irene and a freak Nor'easter this past October and it was a life saver especially going for days without power. I highly recommend this product for your charging and utility needs!

Schumacher SAC-109 Male-to-Male Connector

This is plenty good enough for boosting a compact car battery. My kids have stranded the car a few times by setting off the car alarm and not resetting it until the battery is too low to start the car. After some late night rescues with jumper cables I needed another solution. XP500 was it. I have never tested it with a totally dead car battery, but it works well to help a low battery. I wish it had a needle meter instead of LEDs, and it should come with the male-male 12v connector. I made a 20' one with 2 $.99 male plugs and some heater cord. The XP500 sits in the trunk getting charged up from the automobile charging system.

This device does what it's supposed to. After a lengthy initial charge, the monthly recharge doesn't take too long if you haven't used it. Has started a small Honda Fit battery that was practically dead and currently sits in the back of that car. Has a LED light which would be useful in a dark situation.

The power on device is a rotary dial for some reason. I'm not sure why it's not just a switch. Clamps are strong, but a little big, I had to work to position the positive in the small space available on the actual battery so it could make contact with the terminal. Be aware of that if you have a modern battery with fuses or other hard plastic around the terminal.

One jump and this thing is done. I wouldn't depend on it keeping a charge, especially if you're planning on leaving it in your trunk.
