This is the "Z Light" you might have heard/read about. The deal is you set your camera white balance to 2900K and illuminate your subject with this light in a scene that is otherwise in daylight (or daylight equivalent). What you get is a natural colored subject and everything else in a nifty shade of blue. It's also effective for light painting and other night time tricks. (Night Photography: Finding your way in the dark is a great source for additional info.

This is the same light as the Brinkmann Maxfire Dual Xenon Spotlight, which you are more likely to see when the Z Light is discussed. However, this is a much better value; it's $10 less (when you factor in shipping). It's exactly the same light except it's white with blue trim (which I think looks a lot better).

One humorous side note. On the packaging there's a sumbol of a rain cloud with water streaming down. There's also the word "Marine" in the product name. So, where's the joke? On the cover of the instruction booklet, in bold print it says, "Dry Location Use Only."

I have three of these flashlights in the family and they are wonderful. The battery is long lasting on one charge and they are super bright. I highly recommend it.

This light's beam is more flood than spotlight and does not do well for "painting with light". When painting with light you want a beam that pops onto your subject, not one the fill the subject with light. This light will be given to my son and I'll be looking for a spotlight. One that has no more than a 1-2 ft spotlight from 20 feet away.

I purchased this spotlight to use on a photography trip, so that I could "paint with light", a technique where you illuminate a far away object with a flashlight to make it stand out at night. When the spotlight arrived, I was a bit concerned, it was much smaller than any spotlight I've seen before. It was also very lightweight, which was good as I was going to be hiking with it strapped to my camera backpack.

I used the light for about an hour on max intensity (there are two settings, one to use one bulb and the other to use both bulbs. The light did an excellent job and still was very bright after an hour of use. Keep in mind that this was in 15 degree weather where most batteries underperform.

Overall I give this a 5/5. It's light weight, very bright and holds an excellent charge...what more could you ask for?
