Brunton 6 Watt Foldable Solar Array

I purchased this and the Goal Zero Nomad 7, as i wasn't sure which would be better for me.

I wanted a solar charger because i spend alot of time travelling to remote places and camping, where there is not always electricity or inconsistent supply.

It is used to recharge my video camera batteries (main reason), AA/AAA batteries and GPS/cell phone.

It proformed really well, and as expected.

The only grips i have is the manual isnt very good mainly because it didnt say if or how to join 2 of these together for better power output (12 V/1Amp), even the brunton website didnt have this (it did say you could join other models together though), so had to email Brunton to get the required information. It even comes with the cable required to connect 2 panels together, so is weird it doesnt say how to in manual.

And the lack of connectors or for me lack of a USB connector. However i guess at the end of the day i already had cig-lighter USB adapotor so not a biggie.

Compare to the Nomad 7:

The brunton has better output overall 0.5 Amps/6 watts, where the Goal0 nomad only has 0.5 Amps/5 watts on USB, 4 watts on 12 V cigarette-lighter connector, and 7 watts only on the Guide 10 output for recharging the Goal0 battery pack. I noticed this when recharging AA/AAA batteries, as there is an LED screen on the charger, which wouldnt display any info with the nomad, but did on the brunton. The charge time was shorter on the brunton.

The brunton is smaller and ligher probably less than a 1/3 the weight of the goal0.

However bacause the goal0 has a hard back, it laid flat on the ground, where i had to sit something on the end of the brunton to keep it flat to start with, and the nomad is better suited to attach to a backpack to charge while hiking, plus there is a pocket where you can place your cell phone/gps while charging.

At the end of the day, the brunton is better for me, because of the higher power output, and it lighter/smaller, which is ideal for travelling.

I bought six of the Brunton Solar-6 panels. I was planning a long camping trip with kids and you know how they love their electronic devices. The kids and I can describe our satisfaction in a single word, WOW! We did have to purchase one small adapter but after that things were perfect. Two weeks and everything stayed charged wonderfully.

It does work......barely. I tested on my Motorola 4 G PDA for 3 hours in direct sunlight with a beginning charge on device of 30% power and charged it on several occasions...... the best result was an increase to 40% power charge. That's 10% increase folks. This is not impressive and not worth lugging its weight on my back for 2500 miles of the Continental Divide. Might be ok in some other applications. I wanted to be able to listen to audio books while walking long distances in the back country.....don't think it has the muscle to do this........great idea though....also the cable attachments are cumbersome and heavy and no direct usb port capibility......that's pretty important if you think about it. If someone figures out how to really make solar work they'll be the next Bill Gates. It will happen.....but when?!

This item comes with adapters that won't charge any cell phones, or anything USB related. The adapters look like headphone plugs. I've never seen anything that takes that kind of plug.
