I bought this product for my Ford Focus, because the car had only one 12V socket. I had my iPod and GPS, so I needed a splitter. I bought this product and it worked for about two months. It then began loosing the connection as it would slightly slide out of the 12V socket and disconnect. I took the unit apart to see what was wrong and it is a terrible design. The inside is cheaply made and not designed to last. The spring that allows the end plug to touch the outlet broke off and the would not allow a connection. I repaired the unit, but it broke again shortly their after. It is now not repairable and I am going to buy a differnt product. This product looks nice but is a waste of money. Get another splitter for your car.

I drive an automatic '09 Toyota Matrix and the car may be the actual problem, but this adapter doesn't work in this car. The console and emergency brake handle are too crowded for a "straight run" or a simple upward tilt. I frequently lost power and had to hold pressure on the adapter in order for it to make proper contact. There's no reason apple should charge thirty dollarz for this when it's just a piece of plastic and some wires and junk.
The build quality is better than I thought. Not super sturdy but I'm sure it would hold up If I threw it around a little.
Overall I'm very happy, and would just buy another one of these even if it broke after some time.This is good for the price but make sure you read the description well. It does not charge the iPhone 3GS but does work on my iPod Touch (1st gen).This product shorted out my iPod touch right away. I now have hundreds of dollars spent on a paperweight. The Apple Store can't fix it, neither can the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy.

I used this unit as the core of a home-made entertainment system on a narrowboat where space is at a premium. It was easy to install and functions as advertised. It feeds a pair of mini Gale speakers and the audio quality is excellent. The unit plays CDs DVDs (all regions) fine. The video quality is OK but not spectacular component outputs or at lease a S-Video out would have improved things. A disappointment is the quality of the aux audio input it sounds very thin (lacks bass) when fed from an MP3 player or cassette recorder. It was time to face the reality that holding a phone to my ear/face was not only unsafe, it was frustrating. I looked at a lot of options for a hands-free system and chose this one with my fingers crossed. That trick must work sometimes because this was an easy and effective way to keep the phone in my pocket and my eyes on the road. It was easy to set up and works well. Those I talk to have no problem hearing me with the unit attached to the visor over the driver's seat.Downsides: I haven't figured out how to integrate it with the speak-to-call and message reading systems of the phone. I don't know if that will work, but it doesn't work out of the box. Also, I have to train myself to turn it off when I leave the car. It has such a long range that I can be 50 feet from the unit and it still picks up the calls so I have to put the phone on speaker to hear the caller. There's always something.

We bought this unit as a back up for other cell phone chargers we have. It was inexpensive and does the job. It's one of few types that will fit our older GM car lighter socket.

Also, in terms of total amp/hours, it would not be able to power something like a CPAP machine for a full night's use, which some people might like to do on a camping trip or the like. The description touts the unit's non-automotive power uses, but they are really somewhat modest. Charging a cell phone is not much of a challenge!
It works fine for starting cars, though. This appears to be identical to the Vector VEC010S, which is the unit I have. ("BD" at the end of this product ID is obviously just for Black and Decker's labeling on the front).
My car battery went dead in mid-winter, and I thought it was shot. A neighbor had this same unit, and in the spring I borrowed it twice to start the car, which went fine, even though his unit wasn't even fully charged when I borrowed it.
Finally I bought my own, charged it overnight as per the instructions, three hours past the blinking green. When I went to jump the car, for some reason it would not start right up as it had the other times. On the first attempt, the car turned over and over, but wouldn't kick in, and the effort drew down the jump starter's cranking power to zilch. Everything stopped.
The car had not cranked long enough to become flooded, so that was not the problem. I suspected that I might not have set the clamps correctly to get a "clean" grip, and that this reduced the power available for cranking.
The instructions tell you to wait a little after long cranking, so I did. I also reset the clamps (which are perfectly strong and fine, by the way!)After a few minutes, the unit had regained some of its cranking power, and it got the car going easily.
Back inside, I plugged the starter back in to charge up, and it took several hours to get back to full (blinking green light). Apparently, getting the car going had used quite a bit of juice.
The next time I needed to jump the car, it was instantaneous, and I performed multiple jumps without needing a new charge. So, unless there is something unusual about the first usage, I suspect that my placement of the clamps was to blame. The well-written instructions are clear about the need for a good connection, after all.
If you do want it mostly for jump starts, and do not expect to need it as an "emergency power" source for long hours, or to run any kind of serious appliance, it is a fine choice.

Unit appears to be solidly constructed. Maybe I lucked out and got an upgraded version, but there have been a couple of reviewers that said the the plastic clamps snapped. The unit I have (manufactured 11/06) has ALL METAL clamps, very much nicer than many regular standard jumper cables.This unit will hold a charge but needs to be maintained (recharged) at least every 60 days or so.
NEVER charge via the cigarette lighter adapter in your vehicle longer than 3-4 hours. It may be left on AC charge indefinately. It is better to keep it fully charged, discharging this unit will result in shorted cells.
All in all, a very small price to pay for peace of mind, at home and on the road. With a power inverter (less than $20.00) you can have silent power source for lights, cell phones, small tv's, laptops, flourescent lights, etc.

I have a Honda, which I love, but since I do not drive her on a daily basis now, the battery is tempermental. I bought this product and have had to use it several times. I've found it easy to use and, even when the car battery has been completely dead, this jumpstarter has had more than enough power to get her started. The GTMax Home Travel Charger for my Magellan Roademate 1412 does charge the unit and needless to say, the price is right. The only drawback is, is that you don't know when your re-chargeable battery reaches full charge, as the unit does not shut off when the battery reaches full charge. You must turn on the GPS and check the status of the battery in the GPS window. Then again, it does charge the unit. I do repeat, price is very low. this is such a great light, super bright! I use it to walk my dogs. Only problem is that is does not last long, this is my third one and this one lasted the shortest time, three months. I charge it as directed. Such a shame because I really like this light, wish it would last longer.

This is a pretty simple trickle charger. It doesn't provide much feedback, other than when it is on and when it is off. I don't think there should be any worry of overcharging, as it was designed to provide a constant "trickle" of power to keep a battery at top charge. I have owned and used this unit for the past year without any problems. If you want more feedback, buy a unit with gauges. This is definitely a trickle charger. I had it hooked up to a completely dead battery for 2 days, and my Mazdaspeed6 started right up! Impressed with the device since it is a LOT cheaper than alternatives. Don't purchase if you have a vehicle that you need to run within a day.Save 50% Off
I had a minor snafu (my fault) with it being shipped to the wrong address, but Amazon was amazing about helping me get it resolved and had it out to me just one day after the expected delivery date. So as far rapport goes, top notch.As for the device itself...it's really, really basic, but it gets the job done. The clamps are smaller than those on your standard jumper cables, which is a boon in my case, because I couldn't fit normal sized cables into the tight area where my terminals are located. It charged faster than I expected and it kept my poor dying battery alive about a month until I could afford a replacement, so it was definitely worth the money in my book. Plus, it's small enough to carry under my seat if I plan to travel long distances and want it there just in case.
Unfortunately, I had to use a heavy duty extension cable with it because I have no exterior outlets, but if you can park even relatively close the cable is plenty long and sturdy to stretch across a car width or so.
