The voltage output should by checked to confirm correct operation. I did not check, I ended up with a burnt out circuit board on my appliance. I checked after and found 240 volt input and 240 volts output. It did not step down the voltage. Be careful. I've monitored its output to the various batteries and it does its job as described at manufacturers website.
Charge light lets you know when it is working and indicates what stage its at by color or flashing. Again just as described.
I use 12 volt DC LED lights and and connected to my inverter some AC CFL lights and charge all my phones and run my laptop a few hours EVERYDAY! If you have the right expectation of what wattage you planned to use and think about the set-up you can make a nice daily use (or emergency use) system with these components.
I am very pleased with the product to used for a small solar systems using a 45 watt panel or less. I plan to buy a few more and connect up lights, radios, in other rooms all over the house. My way of going green.
I also charge my AA, AAA rechargeable batteries with a DC connectable battery charger off my 32AHr battery too!
Saves me a lot of money on batteries and I use more battery operated devices now and the family enjoys the whole system. Use the Battery Tender only to charge batteries and do not try to run other things from it. That is not what is was designed for.

I have used these several times over the last year. They do fantastic even with a 5 watt panel. I imagine the two negative reviewers were confusing watts and volts.Anyway this works as advertised. I have one wired to a Harbor Freight 45 watt panel kit and it does a fantastic job of keeping my battery bank charged.
I also have one on a 10 watt panel that I have installed on my kayak to keep my trolling motor battery charged. Great buy just like all Battery Tender products.I was hoping this would work with my 12VDC solar panels or my 12VDC wall power supply. I ordered it thinking it would but when I tried it it didn't work. I reviewed the documentation and it only said a max voltage of 36VDC but no mention of a minimum voltage.
I then proceeded to call the manufacture directly and they were very rude to say the least. The first person didn't even know what a current meter was (pointing out they didn't know anything technical) they blindly (not a graceful handover) forwarded me to some random extension where they didn't answer and I had to leave a message. They did however call me back a couple hours later but when I asked they fumbled with the technical terms and also were rude ... kind of replied with the 'are you stupid of course 12VDC will not work' type attitude.
In the end I got my answer but if they simply put the min voltage on the website they would have avoided this whole situation. Very disappointing in the product documentation AND customer support.

UPDATE: I had a question about this review from another customer. They wanted my opinion if a 12v solar panel work. Well, kind of. The problem is that a 12V solar panel output varies from 8v to 14v (usable voltage). The problem is if the panel is outputting 12V this converter will NOT boost the voltage so the battery will only reach a max voltage charge of 12 ... BUT ... if the solar panel is outputting 13-14v then yes the battery will top off. Note that I have made some assumptions (because the company 'battery tender' could not help in answering the following); is there voltage regulation happening inside the circuit? if so what is the overheat (aka loss, inefficiency) as this would tell me the minimum voltage needed to achieve an output charge of 14v. But as I read in another review it seems this charger doesn't output greater then 12V so I assumed it did. I never got a chance to test it as I returned it for my money back.
Anywho, I wouldn't recommend this converter with a 12v solar panel or 12v power supply but it would work for a 24v solar panel (or two 12v solar panels in series). But in light of other reviews saying this charger doesn't output higher than 12v I wouldn't recommend this at all!

I purchased an Odyssey PC1200MJT because I need a more reliable sealed battery.
The Odyssey is just a bit smaller in overall size than the Optima, but apparently has more total plate size due to its conventional configuration.
The Odyssey has done well so far, but it is the warm season, so I cannot speak to cold weather performance.
However, the specs for the Odyssey are excellent. It is claimed to accept hundreds of charges without a problem (deep cycle), and to handle very cold conditions extremely well.
In regard to the purchase experience, this is the first time after several years of excellent service that I have been disappointed with Amazon.
The Odyssey qualified for Free Shipping, but I needed it sooner than the typical 5 7 days, so I paid an additional $27.00 for expedited shipping. My order clearly stated the total price including expedited shipping, but UPS showed 7 day shipping anyway! I don't know if this was the result of a technical error or what, but I contacted Amazon immediately. Amazon did nothing to correct the problem and would not refund the additional shipping fee! Delivery took a full week.
As Amazon has proven unreliable, I will look elsewhere before making a purchase from now on.

I purchased my first Odyssey PC1200-MJT seven years back at a good deal from a major racing parts shop (S) I've dealt with for years for a low mileage 1979 Berlinetta Camaro I own. I needed a battery that would not eat another inner fender and battery tray out again like a brand new Walmart battery had done in only six months time. The Camaro was only driven about 20 miles once a year and its electrical system was perfect, but that didn't stop that 6 month old battery from destroying the Camaro's battery tray and inner fender liner at great cost to me. To say the least, I was really angry and determined this would never happen again.I had read about the Odyssey MJT batteries and liked what I saw metal jacketed, sealed brass top post connections, small size per CCA, CAN BE MOUNTED IN ANY POSITION WITHOUT SPILLS. Battery life was also 6-8 years (with good care) in the factory literature, and I had seen reviews of it having lasted as long as 12 years and no, only using and charging a battery for twenty miles driving once a year is not good care. Okay, those specs and reviews softened the steep initial price considerably to which I added a new Odyssey Billet Aluminum Battery Mount of the correct size. Mounted in place, the new battery looked great. It fit the bill, as I needed something that could be left in the tight confines of the Camaro as moving the batteries in and out of my other antique vehicles wasn't as difficult.
Forging ahead, over the next seven years I still didn't drive the Camaro more than 20 miles once a year. But this time there was never so much as any wiring corrosion. In fact, the PC1200-MJT still looked brand new after removing it and wiping it off with some spray window cleaner with a cloth. Yes, after seven years there was a reason for removing it it was quite dead and had failed to start my stored Camaro for the first time. I removed a new battery from my '85 Pontiac Trans Am and started the Camaro driving it a while and checking everything before storing it again. Not knowing if the Odyssey battery here would hold a charge anymore after seven years, I took my time trying to bring it back up with a large NAPA industrial charger I had owned for many years. After a number of hours of close monitoring, I finally got the Odyssey up from a 20% charge to a small cranking charge. I also knew I needed a charger that would properly charge this AGM Odyssey battery without such close monitoring as my NAPA charger was not designed for AGM batteries and could easily overheat and destroy them. So, I purchased a Schumacher charger designed for AGM batteries and let it do its thing for several days. The new charger brought this Odyssey even further back to better health but I did notice it slightly heated the Odyssey while charging. Although it was very slight heating, that's not a particularly good thing for any sealed type battery. But, the PC1200-MJT was sufficiently recharged for good use.
Having a number of antique vehicles with AGM, sealed lead acid, and standard lead acid batteries, I started checking out what else was available in new chargers I could leave hooked up for longer periods of time on stored vehicles. I found the BatteryMINDer line and purchased one (12151) that could be mounted under the hood permanently one that would also desulfate and charge any style battery. I mounted the new 12151 charger with this old Odyssey battery into my '85 Trans Am. It offered full-time desulfation at a maximum of 1.5 amperes charge rate. The TA has a high horsepower small block 406 and a sound system of over 600 RMS watts (well over 1000 watts total). It also has a 140 ampere alternator to keep the power up when two Kenwood stereo amplifiers hit high power levels. So, I wanted the Odyssey PC1200-MJT back to 100% capacity if possible.
In the first few days of using the new BatteryMINDer, with the charger and engine off and the stereo on, I noticed the PC1200MJT battery would lose power fairly quick until I switched off the stereo while there was still enough power to start the 10.25:1 compression engine. After some weeks on the BatteryMINDer 12151, I checked the health of my PC1200-MJT again. After a 12 hour rest (charger disconnected), the battery was showing the same performance as a new battery 12.84 volts as the Odyssey paperwork stated for a battery charged to 100%. I noticed the stereo system could now play much longer with the engine off without apparently pulling the battery down. I could also see the PC1200-MJT AGM battery was charging back very quickly after starting the engine much faster than the previous new sealed Delco had ever recharged in the TA, and proving to me this Odyssey AGM battery recharges much faster by comparison. I already knew it held a charge longer without charging, proving the Odyssey stated longer shelf life.
Okay, I also purchased more new BatteryMINDer chargers after seeing so much first hand with repeated checks using an Amprobe digital volt/ampere meter. The chargers (12151 and a new 12248) have restored all my batteries, including one 13 year old diesel tractor battery that had been sitting around dead for years. But, aside from that, I've seen the quality of the Odyssey when a seven year old battery can be returned to like new electrical condition after reaching its expected service life in years. The military specs of the Odyssey also concerns more than the sealed metal jacket on this battery. It concerns how strong the battery is internally, and that tells me the battery is still physically in good shape internally especially after I did some load testing and saw how quickly the battery recovered. Any lead acid battery can be internally destroyed quickly from vibration (or heavy loads) the Odyssey is designed to take much more than others.
I also have a PC925-MJT in an antique 1957 Ford tractor, and another PC1200-MJT in another vehicle all are performing great. I bought the second two Odyssey batteries after having only seen the strengths of the PC1200-MJT after only a few years of use. A bad charging system (now repaired) on the old tractor took the brand new PC925-MJT down to 50% and a no start condition before I found the problem. The charging system was showing a proper charge in volts, but was supplying no amperes. Once repaired, and after the PC925-MJT had spent a short amount of time on another BatteryMINDer, it too came back to its brand new specs. Because of this, I now use BatteryMINDer desulfating chargers on all of my stored vehicle batteries. Obviously, you get what you pay for with the Odyssey as it is designed much stronger throughout than any other automotive battery especially the MJT series and Extreme series by Odyssey.
These Odyssey MJT batteries are almost bullet proof and well worth the money even if given almost no care. All you really need is a healthy charging system and to charge/desulfate them once in a while as needed. Oh, and the MJT stands for Metal Jacketed Top post. From what I'm seeing, my Odyssey batteries may outlast me if cared for properly with the proper BatteryMINDer desulfator/charger while not in use. The top terminals can also be easily adapted to side post wiring connections with no fear of wiring corrosion since the Odyssey batteries are completely sealed. Just be sure to order the proper battery size, terminal placement, and amperage for your application. Some might confuse the 1200 in this model to mean 1200 CCA but this battery actually supplies 550 CCA @ 0 degress Fahrenheit (725 CCA @ 32 degrees Fahrenheit). This is still more than enough for my Camaro or my Trans Am, even though the factory batteries were rated 600-700 CCA, as the Odyssey has a proven much faster charge recycle time than other batteries, provides greater power on initial high loads such as engine starting, and has a 70% greater life cycle. This is much like a deep cycle boat battery and an automotive starting battery combined. You get the best of both worlds with better vibration resistance to boot using this Odyssey. That alone makes it worth more than other batteries. My Trans Am's amplifier system can quickly reduce a standard starting battery to almost nothing and in no time that standard battery would be worthless (internally shorted and burned open circuits). The Odyssey takes it in stride. Need a battery that is able to withstand the pressures of racing year after year for a race car? Get yourself an Odyssey MJT and forget worrying. They don't leak and they are tough as nails.

I bought this as a starting battery for a Kohler home standby generator.I bought it primarily because my experience with Sears Di Hard batteries was that they failed much too often after too short a time.
I cannot give an honest review at this time because while the Odyssey is supposed to offer a long and dependable service life, it has only recently been put to use.
Though initially expensive, I bought it because it is promoted as being of military grade and rated high for reliability.I have Odyssey Batteries in most of my other cars, so when my Wife and I bought a new Z06, I began to think about an Odyssey for that, but when I looked at the catalog on the Odyssey web site, I saw that the Odyssey Battery which fits in the rear battery compartment of a C6 Z06 is not an exact fit and that the ".... vehicle battery restraint(s) may require modification."
I also noted that the dimensions of the Odyssey Battery (PN PC1200MJ) suggested for use in C6 Z06 were somewhat smaller than the stock battery and that the CCA rating of the Odyssey was slightly less, 590 vs 550. I contacted the folks at EnerSys, the maker of the Odyssey brand, and was told the modification to the battery hold down, if necessary would be minor. I also asked about the vent hose which connects to a stock battery to carry away battery fumes. This prompted a response from Kalyan Jana, Product Manager of AGM Products for EnerSys, the company which manufactures and markets Odyssey batteries. He told me, "Odyssey batteries do not require a venting system and therefore the PC1200MJT does not have a connection for the hose. As long as the battery is not installed in a gastight enclosure no special venting arrangements are necessary for any Odyssey battery."
One of the reasons I've become a fan of the Odyssey Battery is its very high pulse cranking current output. in short, "pulse cranking output" is not the same as "cold cranking amps" (CCA) and is a very high current draw for a short period while the engine is cranked during the starting sequence. Pulse cranking is usually defined as lasting five seconds. The LS7 in a Z06 has a very high compression ratio for a production engine and the battery is in the back of the car, at the end of a long cable run. Both those characteristics demand a battery capable of high pulse cranking current output. In that context, I, also, questioned Jana about the difference in CCA ratings and he responded, "The answer lies in how CCA is defined, which is: a 30-second discharge at 0ºF. Unless the user is planning to actually discharge the battery at 0ºF for 30 seconds, the CCA rating of a battery is pretty meaningless. What is of paramount importance in an engine cranking application is the number of amps a battery can deliver for 3-5 seconds (ie: pulse cranking amps) to get that engine turning rapidly. In that respect, an Odyssey battery will significantly outperform an OEM battery that is physically much larger."
As it turns out Delco does not rate it's batteries for pulse cranking amps but Odyssey does. The pulse hot cranking amps (PHCA) rating of the Odyssey PC1200 MJ is 1200-amps for five seconds. I decided to order a PC1200MJ and test it out.
So, how does the Odyssey PC1200MJ work in the real world? Well, first off, you don't have to modify anything to install it in a Z06. While the battery is a little smaller in length, its height is the same as the stock battery so the stock battery hold-down in a Z06 works fine. No modifications are necessary. Because the battery box in the back of a Z is so small, lifting a battery in and out is easier if you have one of those rubber strap battery carriers which attaches to the battery posts but, you can remove and replace the battery by hand if you have a strong grip.
Odysseys are shipped fully charged. I installed the battery, then let the car sit a week before I tried starting it. In spite of not having a charger connected either upon installation or after a week, the cranking speed was, perhaps, 10-20% faster than it was with the original battery. One characteristic which concerned me with the C6 Z06 was the LS7's somewhat slow cranking speed compared to the LS6 in my 2004. Going to the Odyssey battery solved that problem for sure!
The other reason I like Odyssey batteries is they have a long service life, usually 5-7 years and sometimes as much as ten years. Also, they are more tolerant of "deep cycles" (where you run the battery dead, then fully recharge it) than are most conventional battery designs, such as the OE ACDelcos. Thought I've not tested the deep cycle tolerance with the battery in my new Z06, I have run an Odyssey dead and charged it up several times in my 71 Coupe with no ill effects to date. Now that car uses a larger Odyssey, a PC 1500, but the engineering and materials used in of those two are the same only the sizes differ.
There's a downside to the Odyssey PC 1200 and that's weight. The Odyssey weighs about 4 lbs or about 10% more than the stock ACDelco. Hardcore racers might no like that, but I'll take the extra weight in exchange for the Odyssey's better performance and durability.

I bought an Optima SC35DA Yellow Top directly from Amazon in August of 2009 and it worked fine until March of 2011. The plastic around the negative battery post just split with gas and gel oozing out.
I did not think there was any problem because this Optima battery comes with a three year full replacement warranty.
Now the warranty merry go round started.
I called Amazon and I was told to call Optima, Optima told me they would not warranty the battery because Amazon is not an authorized reseller, so back to Amazon, then back to Optima and so on.
The final result is that Amazon wound up giving me a full refund of the purchase price of the battery. I would rather of had a new battery but I got tired of the BS and aggravation and then I did what others did, I went to a local discount store and bought a cheap battery.
What is the point of spending $174.00 on what is supposed to be the best battery only to have it fail very early in its life cycle and then have to argue over getting it replaced?
The Optima battery worked for less than two years. So why spend the money on one when you can buy a Wal-Mart special for less than half the price, get it replaced locally or just throw it out and buy a new one.
I do have to thank Amazon for finally giving me the refund but there was too much aggravation involved. From all of the complaints I have read about the lack of a warranty when the Optima Battery is bought from Amazon, you would think Amazon would stop selling it.
This is exactly why I gave it only one star.
I can only recommend that no one should by any Optima Battery Product from Amazon unless they are fully aware that there is no warranty at all.

I always have prefered optima batteries because the yellow and blue top versions Optima Batteries 8052-161 D31M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery can be DEEP discharged without damage. In a conventional flooded acid battery after 10 dead events you are going to the parts store because you have ruined your battery. Same goes to a lesser extent with the optima red top they are strictly a starting battery.In my case I leave accessories on 24x7 like my escort radar detector. It's to ensure that the gps data is up to date and to keep the microwave components warm so when I leave in the early morning they are on frequency and yield accurate measurements.
The yellow top is a cross between the deep cycle marine blue top and the starting red top. It has plenty of CCA's to turn over the engine the next day, plus it is not damaged by being drained. I do keep my yellow top "topped off" with a ctek charger CTEK Multi US 7002 12V Battery Charger whenever possible, but the battery holds its own even without ac charging.
Yes, Optima cells are expensive, and that is their one and only downside. Mine came with adapters to make it fit my vehicle like a factory cell. I get more years out of an optima vs. an interstate by quite a bit, so there is a value proposition as well. Just not being stranded from headlights left on is a great feature!

I would rate the battery 5 stars but only gave 1 becaus of Amazon's packaging. They just drop the battery into a box and send it off. My original order arrived broken. The battery corners were cracked and the cells exposed. After speaking on the phone with them and explaining how the packaging was not sufficient, they sent another. This one arrived broken too, with cracked corners and the cells exposed. The packaging was the same as the first. After calling again, and re-iterating how the packaging is not good enough, they issued a refund and said they would forward the packaging issue up the management chain. Hopefully this gets fixed. Amazon is just throwing money away with poor packaging (of this item).Battery works well and was delivered in great packaging, not a scratch on it. Test #1 iPod Shuffle
You don't need the cable (included) to charge the shuffle. You just plug the Shuffle into the PowerBlock and the PowerBlock into the receptacle and away you go. The fit of the Shuffle is tight and this test worked just as one could expect.
Test #2 iPod 3G
As I noted above , my 3G came with a Firewire cable and AC charger. The 3G normally resides in my truck via a Kenwood adapter. Occasionally I will use this at work as well. Well the 3G needed charging and I thought I'd give the PowerBock a whirl. Using the included cable I crawled under my desk (not an easy feat) and plugged it it. The Apple icon appeared on the iPod but it would not charge. I thought I might have something wrong but how could I, it was so easy with shuffle. I did not have the packaging instructions with me at work but a quick trip to the company website put me in touch with reality ... the 3G is not compatible. So I was a bit disappointed but it was clearly documented on their website. This was confirmed by an email to tech support. It could have been more timely as it took nine days to receive an answer from Technical support. I do have to give a kudos to Griffin Technology. They have a compatibility chart on their website that references the various iPod models with their products so you can be sure the product you buy will be compatible. And I might add if you are in doubt, please feel free to email them. I think it is in the iPod's firmware but am not completely sure of that so don't quote me on it. There are reviews on the Apple website stating a Firewire cable will not charge a 4G iPod. A dock connector is not a always a dock connector I guess !!
Test #3 -iPod 5G
My pristine 5G iPod was the final test for the PowerBlock. Still new enough to be cycling the battery it was at work where it finally ran out of juice. I plugged the PowerBlock into the powerbar and using the included cable connected my iPod. No surprises here, the adapter worked as planned. During charging the adapter ran warm to the touch but not hot.

The box states "AC charger for USB devices". I knew this was made specifically for Ipod, but I was hoping that it would charge other USB devices too (USB devices that I know can be charged through USB, that is). No luck, though, it only worked on the ipod. Worse, however, whenever I plugged a different USB device into this charger, the device would say "charging", but not actually BE charging. I had my phone plugged in all night thinking it was charging, but instead it wore down the battery more than just leaving the phone in standby mode.So, if you're planning on getting this only for ipod, then yes, it works great. It is small, lightweight, and I love the way the plug folds in for easy travel. If you're hoping to be able to charge other usb devices, forget it... try something else.

I had some initial reservations before purchasing this product, since the description did not mention compatibility with the iPod touch 2G. However, Griffin Technology's site indicated that it was indeed compatible and I went with that.Another concern was whether or not the cable would support syncing as well as charging, since other products I researched did not offer this capability.
I'm happy to report that this product meets my needs perfectly. I'm able to charge my iPod touch 2G via USB or with the adapter, and the detachable USB cable also works to sync my iPod. I'm very pleased with the product.Although this product accomplishes its end goal of charging your Ipods, there are simpler an cheaper methods for accomplishing this. First let me review the product:
Strengths:
It's Apple white (like anybody cares any more)
The charger itself allows the prongs that insert into the outlet to be folded away for convenience, protection, etc.
You get a spare communications cable that attaches to your Ipod and the computer; so you have a spare
The connector for the charger unit is a basic USB connector so you can use this to charge other USB devices such as those that you connect with a mini-USB connection (cameras, Nintendo DS-Lite, etc.)
Weaknesses:
The charger is only the basic USB 2.0 standard amperage. This is a shame because although this may be fine for the Ipod if you wanted to charge other USB devices, this may only represent a trickle amperage and you device will charge slowly.
Essentially, it works and its convenient but not perfect.
Recommendation:
Go to Walmart, go to the Electronics section, find one of the many multi-plug universal chargers with USB charging capability, get the one with the largest amperage capacity, save at least $10, and enjoy the fact that you came out ahead AND can charge / power multiple devices when needed.

I'm writing this review mainly becasue I feel like the rating is skewed. One reviewer claimed he blew all the fuses in his 2012 Silverado because of this inverter, and gave it 1 star. He said none of the fuses were blown in the unit, so obviously the unit was at fault. However, the unit is rated for higher wattage than his cigarette adapter socket is. If you are using the cigarette adapter, you should not attempt to pull more than 150w off of ANY inverter. This has nothing to do with your inverter, and everything to do with the wiring in your car, which is not designed to handle the same load this inverter can. It is most likely that the reviewer was not aware of this limitation, and threw out a perfectly good inverter.
Another reviewer gave the unit 2 stars, after admitting that he had a bad alternator in an older vehicle (and it worked fine until his alternator went out).
Yet another gave 1 star because the minimum operating voltage is stated in the manual as 11v +/0.5 volts, which could mean the device might not run on 11.5 volts (or maybe 10.5). Well, your alternator should be putting out more than 14 volts when your car is running, and your battery, when charged, should be over 13. If your battery voltage drops below 11.5 volts at idle, you have bigger problems. I once went into a meeting and left my inverter plugged into my cigarette lighter (with the car off, of course) to power a laptop and a Sony FX1 HDV camera while capturing an hour or so of footage with no problems whatsoever.
I have had such success with the 400w unit, that I just bought a 1200w unit prior to hurricane Sandy (I'm on the east coast). I haven't been able to test that one yet (and thankfully didn't need to), but it just goes to show you I trust the product and the company. At this price, even if my 400 started on fire I'd buy another one, especially considering the years of use I've gotten out of it.so far i have only charged my laptop from it, which was my main reason for purchase. the only bad thing so far is the first couple times i turned it on, it smelled very chemically strong, the smell went away by the 3-4 time used, but it can easily charge my laptop. it seems that it makes my audio system in my truck to stay on even when vehicle is off when ever it is plugged in, only happens when this is plugged in, but if i unplug the inverter everything goes back to normal. the blue fits my trucks scheme, comes with 2 ways to connect, either via direct connect to terminals of a battery or to a 12v plug inside vehicle.

This device is exactly what I'd hoped it'd be. It allows me to have AC power for a multitude of devices including laptops, etc while on the go in the car. Be aware that when you first power it up, you'll get that electrical smell of burning transistors but it begins to fade with time. I'm well pleased with this devices output and performance. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to supply AC power in their vehicle. I used this product less than three days and it failed. I am unable to restart the unit and it just quit. I would never recomment this product.I have an older house (built 1924) and still have the steam heat. When we lost electric power after Sandy hit the area, I borrowed a 200 Watt harbor freight inverter and was able to keep the heat, the stove and a couple of florescent bulbs running off the car battery. 200 watts transported us from the dark ages to the 1930's!! After a lot of research, I bought the Whistler-Pro 800W and 400W inverters as emergency backup. When I connected them to the boiler's electric circuit, they would immediately trip. I checked the circuit's wiring and found nothing wrong, but eventually stumbled across the solution. If I leave out the ground plug, they work. These inverters must have some protective feature that is sensing a ground fault or ground loop. The HF inverters are cheaper and probably lack this feature as they work with all three wires connected. The pump is painfully slow if run directly on 12 VDC and I would have to run a separate DC cable across the yard to do it that way. A bonus is that since my inverter runs in "Power Save" mode, it will automatically turn on when there is a demand for power and shut off again when the well is shut off (by switching off the AC input to the DLS-30-15). This eliminates a "phantom load" and conserves battery charge (often supplied by a generator during cloudy weather). Another bonus is that the two panels originally purchased to run the well have been moved to increase the capacity of the main solar array for battery charging.

I decided to give this a try even though i was worried on why the price was so low. I had a amazon gift card, so it ended up being free so it was worth the gamble. The shipping was absolutely terrible, it took over a week to get here and when i finally opened it up, it said iPhone 4 usb charger cable which is not what it says on amazons website. I plugged it into my iPod and it works, but when i go to use it in my car, which is where i use it 90%of the time, it would not charge it but it recognizes that it is plugged in. Bought two of these spotlights. One for me and one for my sister. Hers was a Christmas gift. She has a home surrounded by woods and was always hearing crazy things at night coming from the woods. Now with this spotlight, she can check it out and see what the heck it is!!! Mine is for the same thing. WE love it. Shines brightly. The Xantrex C35 is the best charge controller I've ever had! My last controller was a Coleman Air C40, and it was working fine running a total of 25 watts of panels. Then I hooked up a 100 watt panel and the little dinky controller went crazy; constantly disconnecting the source and costing me precious power. I went ahead and bought the Xantrex C35 and it's MUCH better. Not only is it COMPLETELY solid state (the old controller had a dinky auto relay), but it has the 3 stage charging. That REALLY sped things up. I know from experience that other controllers either turn the source on or off, and only judge by the battery VOLTAGE. The C35 did a fabulous job of monitoring both voltage and amperage. The 3 stage charging has litterally changed the way it charges the battery. Plus, it includes the pulse-width modulation. What this does is send the power to the battery in high-voltage bursts (thousands per second). This "shocks" the plates and helps keep them clean from sulfate buildup. Then there's the equalization. I have mine set to auto, and it's working great, cleaning the battery bank for me about once a month.I would love to get the remote meter on it ASAP!!
The other thing about this controller is how easy it is to change the pentometer settings. Litterally 4 screws and your in.
One thing they don't mention in the description is the auto-off at night. If you're using a PV array, it will automatically disconnect the array at night so NO electricity leaks back from the batteries (even with diodes installed). In the morning, as soon as it detects electricity from the panals, it will turn back on.
In conclusion, being able to control the current and voltage going into the battery really made me spring for this one. The durable construction and easy controls make it the best controller I've reviewed! I would recommend it to anyone starting with solar, wind, and hydro. If it's too small for you, there's the C40 and C60, which are almost identical.

The only drawback is no digital readout. there is one available for it but it nearly doubles theprice. A digital readout is not a necessity. A blinking light tells you the battery's general
state of charge and you can always check every thing with a volt meter.
The ability to adjust float and charge voltages, and a equalization mode (All important for
long-term battery health) make this controller an excellent buy

I bought the c40 charge controller in August 2011 for use on a small solar system. It replaced a c35 that I had used for at least 10 years.Since installing the new controller I have had minor but continuing problems with the batteries. At the end of the day when I would expect the voltage to be at about 12.6 it was usually 12.3 or 12.2. Finally, I got two digital voltmeters and used each to measure the voltage of the batteries at rest. The readings from each one were about 0.4 volts higher than the meter on the c40. When the battery is close to fully charged the voltage on the c40 meter is at the set point of the potentiometer in the c40. So it is not clear to me whether this means the charger was overcharging the batteries or charging them properly and simply reporting the voltage incorrectly.
All this is irrelevant to the point I want to make. I'd like to find out an answer to my question but as far as I can tell Xantrex doesn't even provide on-line support or even a FAQ sheet for this controller (or any other). In fact, it is not even clear from their website that they even sell this item.
If it weren't for this rather important deficiency in Xantrex's product service I'd give the charger four or five stars. But because of the apparent absence of any support I give it three or two.
