Fantastic, it does everything you expect it to do, charges my phone pretty quickly and it is of excelent quality, also I like that is not a coil cord so it doesn't constrict or pull when I am trying to see something on my phone.

Battery Technology Battery Extender II for iPod with Dock Connector (White)

Battery Technology Battery Extender II for iPod with Dock Connector
  • Compatibility: iPod 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G; nano 1G, 2G, 3G; iPod touch; iPod mini

  • 16,000 hours of music play time or download time and will send power directly to the iPod without charging the internal battery

I bought one of these batteries brand new however I could not seem to make it work with my iPod. My solution for this dilemma was to simply return it for my money back and to order this brand new 100 hour iPod battery called the GeekPod 100 from batterygeek.net. I learned about it from a positive review of it Macworld magazine and it has been giving my iPod tons of run time. So far so good...

Okay, you can pay Apple 59$ to replace your battery and have it last another year and last only 7 hours a charge or you can get this item, which will last a full work week and can be recharged 400 times (that's seven years of battery life IF you use it forty hours a week). The math is simple. It is a bit heavy but I don't wear my ipod on my belt. Excellent alternative to Apple's bad battery engineering.

I got this from Amazon, thinking it would be so great to have it. Well; first of all they shipped it to L.A. by ground all the way from Chicago, and you can just imagine how long that took. I waited patiently, and when it arrived I thought; finally, I'll be able to use my ipod for more than an hour at a time. Straight out of the sealed packaging, the battery did not work; it wouldn't charge no matter what I did with it.

When I called BTI, they told me that it was likely defective because Amazon sent me an item from 'old stock', which is ridiculous because this is a new model battery that has only been available since May 05'.

I had no choice but to send it to the manufacturer, and had to pay for the shipping myself. That was a week ago, and I'm still waiting for the replacement from BTI, which at this rate could very well also be defective. If so I'll have to try to return it to Amazon this time, and that will be at least three weeks of my life wasted.

If you really need this product, and like me have a dying ipod and can't waste weeks upon weeks waiting to receive a battery that actually works, do yourself a favor and go to the nearest Radio Shack where they sell it for half the price, you can have it in your hands immediately, and if it doesn't work you can go to the actual store and return it on the same day. I only wish I was aware of this when I made the purchase from Amazon...

It went dead after only three months. The number I called for warranty repair/replacement kept redirecting me to repair centers all over the country.

Finally, I got an answer--mail it to service center somewhere in Illinois (I pay the postage), and it will take four to six weeks to get a new receiver. Which means you will have to pay to have the new one activated, not knowing if it will fail in three months AGAIN, and...

Anyway, you get the picture. Just trust me--don't buy it.

I have had this receiver almost a year and have dropped it three times on pavement and it still works! The other day it slipped out and the top actually split open, and then I heard something rattling inside. I thought for sure it would never work again but it does with no problems. I have not even replaced the remote batteries yet!

I drive truck at night and have a cradle for it in each of my personal vehicles so it gets alot of use.

The only thing I do not like is the red colored screen. It is hard to read especially at night in the dark. Would of been better to have the font black instead of light colored or the whole thing blue. It is a little large but I like the larger buttons rather than small.

I got the JVC kit for my birthday in early November and I've got to say Im hooked. The music channels are great and I havent heard a commercial since receiving the unit. I've had no problem with receiption in my home or car.

My new favoriate toy.

Just a couple of days use so far. I bought this radio in lieu of the Kenwood. The Kenwood interested me as it puts out a full 5 watts on 220. That said, there were also quite a few complaints of water damage from rain or ?. Whatever the reason the last thing I wanted was a radio I couldn't carry in bad weather. I opted for the VX-6R. And since receiving it I haven't even glanced back. The prevailing attributes so far are one, battery longevity. Does this thing ever go dead? And second, the waterproof aspects. The screen (used radio)had some very light scuffs on it. I've learned long ago to buff these marks out with toilet tissue and a bit of toothpaste. It works well. When I'm done I usually have to carefully remove the toothpaste residue with a damp cloth. In this case I decided to take Yaesu's claims all the way and just put the radio under a very slow stream of water at the kitchen sink. That and a little scrubbing with a dish cloth and no more residue.... I guarantee you that a little rain is not going to effect this radio in the least.

Now... what about txmt and rcv...? I don't have any antenna but the stock to use on it other than my base station roof mount. With the roof mount I was doing absolutely great. As good as my Icom 208H which I use as a base, mobile, and portable. At first I got some reports of weak modulation. I turned the mic gain up to 8 (1-10) and reports went from good to much better. I changed antennas and put the stock rubber ducky on and most reception in the house died off. In all fairness though, I have a steel roof and stucco walls. All my receivers have a hard time. The 6R did as good as any of my other radios under the circumstances.

I then took it out side to see how it did. I couldn't rouse up any simplex traffic but I was hitting my local repeaters with less than full wattage. Many of these repeaters are about 7 to 12 miles away but at great elevations... so no real test there. All signal reports were good and no one had a problem copying me. Now lastly, the menu system. I have AOR, Alinco DX 70TH, Icom 208H, Yaesu 857, and an asst. of other scanners and radios. By far I prefer the Yaesu company's menu functions over all others. I must admit though that the 6R is a bit harder to use than even the FT 857D's. But 2 days down and I can get around it well enough but not good enough to leave the manual at home when I go hiking. If your looking for a great HT, built tough with a great batterylife and 220 transmit (1.5 watt), this is a great deal. 73... K5ATE

Update 7/11/12

In reviewing spec's, advertising, and other literature before deciding on this model I had never gotten the impression that this HT was a capable dual-bander also. Well, if you want to work the birds this little puppy can do it. In addition to all it's other features it has a memory save function that allows split frequency saves and the ability to allocate which one is transmit or receive. You can go VHF/VHF, UHF/UHF, or VHF/UHF and visa versa. You can also assign each split freq it's own CTCSS and DTC values. Add one more note to my last review. In hiking around town I was beginning to get a lot of bad signal reports in various areas. Disturbing to say the least. Well, I had an old scanner antenna that extends about 24 inch's. I checked it against my analyzer and it looked good. I put it on the radio and I'm now back to great reports. That being said I might recommend an aftermarket antenna to make this about the best HT package going...73's K5ATE

Buy Tri-Band Yaesu VX-6R Submersible Amateur Ham Radio Transceiver (144/222/440) Now

This is a good starter radio if your interested in breaking into Ham radio. It has a wide range of RX bands and 3 popular TX bands. This is not a CB radio and you do need to get your Amateur radio license to transmit. The radio is also loaded with features and memory to allow you to dabble in many aspects of amateur radio. Download the manual from the Yaesu site to see just what this little radio can do. One word of advice. The Rubber Duck antenna that comes with the radio is next to useless and is little more that an dummy load. Research and spend the extra 30-50 dollars to get yourself a good antenna. You will not be sorry you did.

This radio is without question the most complicated hand-held I have ever used. There are too many functions assigned to the same buttons. After having for many months I have yet to figure it out. A bit disappointing but still a great radio.

Want Tri-Band Yaesu VX-6R Submersible Amateur Ham Radio Transceiver (144/222/440) Discount?

Does everything it says it will and more and in a tough, subermsible package! I bought a longer antenna for it, the earphone mic and also the AA battery pack for emergencies. The extensive receive mode is great: world shortwave stations, local police, fire, bus drivers, event staff, business band, FRS/GMRS, MURS, CB, NOAA weather, marine band, you name it! Even has LED flashlight mode. If you're not comfortable working with menus and multi-function buttons, you'll definitely want the computer cable and software for it, but I figure I want to know how to really use it for full functionality on the go so I didn't get the computer hookup, and I've been able to set it up with all kinds of station lists and memory banks no problem. You will need to refer to the manual frequently at first, though.

Only thing I don't quite understand is that it has a morse code trainer but I don't think it can actually send morse code (CW mode for you hams). But overall I love this thing and couldn't imagine being without it. Tough enough to go anywhere, I take mine out on the boat (it can't transmit on marine band, though) kayaking, hiking, road trips, wherever. The VX-7R and VX-8R are newer models in this Yaesu HT line, but you'll save a bundle if you go with the VX-6R and it does most of what the newer ones do with the exception of some of the digital stuff.

A final word for non-hams: remember, this is a ham radio, not a walkie-talkie or CB, meaning that it is meant for use on the amaetur radio service, so it is illegal to use it to transmit without a license, although no license is required to receive. Also, even if you have a ham license, this radio will not transmit outside of the ham tri-bands listed, and not would it be legal to do so even if it could (non-type accepted for those other bands). 73

This is my first ham radio after receiving my tech license. The radio doubles as a police and fire scanner. It has the broadcast bands. More importantly, it transmits on all of the UHF/VHY frequencies except 6 meters. I can hit all of the local repeaters Very nice little radio.

I bought this charger for my Magellan Crossover GPS because I left my OEM car charger in a rental car in Florida.I used it one time to charge the unit and it seemed to work ok ,but it ran very hot.The second time I used it it ran for about 5 minutes and was very hot again and then just stopped working.I tested the output voltage ,and there was none and the red LED was very dim.

My old unit did not run hot at all, therefore I would say that the unit was either faulty, or was unable to supply enough output in milliamps (57 m.a. while running/charging or 44 m.a. just on charge) to power my GPS and charge the battery at the same time.

This product was advertised to work with the Magllan GPS to charge the GPS in the car. The cable almost fits the GPS, but is very loose and falls out of the GPS on a regular basis. One has to actually hold it in the equipment in order for it to charge the GPS. It was an inexpensive charge cable, but totally useless. It would have been much cheaper and better to order the original cable from Magellan. This purchase was a waste.

WE NEEDED TO REPLACE OUR MAGELLON CHARGER FOR YEARS OF USING THIS IT DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO RETRE SO WE ORDERED A NEW ONE AND WE ARE VERY SATISFIED...

Whistler XTR-145 Easy To Read Display Radar Detector

Whistler XTR-145 Easy To Read Display Radar Detector
  • Radar/Laser detector provides 360-degree alerts for all radar and laser signals
  • Patented VG-2 cloaking technology makes you invisible to radar detector detectors
  • Brilliant icon display indicates power, city mode, radar band identification, and signal strength
  • 3 City Modes and Highway Mode for reducing false alerts
  • One-year warranty
  • Total Band Protection
  • Icon Display
  • Exclusive Low Profile Periscopes
  • 360° Maxx Coverage
  • Alert Priority

PROS: no frills, solid detector with decent sensitivity/range, only modest false-alarming

CONS: unless on sale, better value can be found elsewhere in the Whistler lineup

This XTR-145 is a no-frills, good quality detector. As someone who goes only 5-10 MPH at most over the speed limit, I wanted something that would give me a heads-up about speed traps -and thus far, this detector has met my expectations.

Over the Labor Day weekend, it snuffed out a couple of local cops hiding out. In both cases, I got a short one or two bar warning in the K/Ka band. The first instance was over the crest of a small hill in a residential section (virtually no false alarms here), and the advance warning was no more than a a few hundred feet. I suspect the hill decreased the range significantly; fortunately, my speed up the hill was well below the limit, so no problem there. The second case occurred on a busier local thoroughfare, flanked by stores on both sides. There were scattered false alarms from the automatic doors (switching to City II mode, which doesn't detect X-band -more on that later -helps cut these false alarms), but a quick burst of the K/Ka alert gave me a 1/2 mile warning about a cop car tucked away in a speed trap. That was enough time for me to slow down to the limit.

I just had two highway alerts tonight -in the first case, it warned me 1/2 mile in advance of a cop driving in the opposite lanes while tailing and pulling over a car. The warning illustrated the XTR-145's 360-degree detection, i.e. not necessarily your course of traffic. The second case was also a 1/2 mile in advance, this time a cop who had already pulled over a car to the shoulder in my course of traffic.

As noted earlier, the City modes can cut down detection of X band, but this is problematic in states like NJ and OH, where cops still use X band radar (sticking to Highway mode is likely the best bet there). And this unit, like most of its peers across the price range, will detect laser, but this feature comes with a catch: any laser warning likely indicates your car has just been tagged, so hope for their laser gun to malfunction as you hit the brakes. This gaping hole in laser "detection" is why radar detectors in general are not a free pass for speeding.

But the XTR-145 does provide a little more cushion and advance warning about many imminent speed traps. Higher priced detectors seem to have far better sensitivity and may be more useful for the leadfooted folks. But for those who speed 5-10 MPH over the limit and like useful gadgets, this fits the bill.

FYI, I found the Handstands Jelly Sticky Pad to be perfectly sized and capable of holding it on the dashboard. This allows you to avoid using the more obvious suction cup mount. And the power cord for this unit is a thin, straight cable. At first, I thought this would be a disadvantage (more expensive units use a coiled cord), but I've found the thinness of the cable to be less obstructive to the center console controls.

If you shop around, the XTR-145 can be an excellent value. I found it for $25 at another electronics/computer site (with vowels removed, N-w-gg). But at the current price of around $40, definitely get the XTR-265, which is around $10 more. It seems to have the same detection circuitry, but with a much better feature set.

Buy Whistler XTR-145 Easy To Read Display Radar Detector Now

First, I bought one Whistler Xtr-265 and one Xtr-145, just to compare these two models. I put both on at the same time, going to work and driving a family member to school. Xtr-265 was being too sensitive to every single, mostly are false alarms. Xtr-145 model only alerted you when there was real police radar guns or strong electronic wireless traffic cameras.

Both models are easy to operate and do not cost much money to buy. Like many previous reviews, I don't speed but just want to get warnings ahead. Just because state or city politicians could not get their budget balanced, they are now trying to overwork the police force to get every penny they could from the local residents.

At the end, I returned the Xtr-265 and bought another Xtr-145 for my family. My colleague just got a speeding ticket this morning: $165.00. Every one can afford to buy a Xtr-145 around $40 just to slow down and save yourself a fine and a traffic course. Keep driving and keep yourself safe.

The laser has never worked and I use it every day to travel to/from work on the freeway. I've seen plenty of motorcycle police with laser on and it has never made a single sound. There is also one point on this freeway that, every single time for about two miles this thing gives a high pitch/low pitch (high-low-high-low-high-low-pause-high-low-high-low-high-low-pause) that is not listed as a feature. While it is doing this, it doesn't notify of radar (as I can tell).

It does work for detecting radar quite well, but I just don't feel confident using it. If this is all you can afford, it'll probably work for you, but if you can get something better, go with that instead.

A well-rounded device...I Recently owned the Xtr-105 and it stopped working. This one is a great upgrade. Much louder alerts, lights will definetly get your attention at night time, not much justice during the day, but the alert sound still gets your attention if you're riding with the windows down or moderate radio volume. This is definetly a good product. Note: State troopers speed radars aren't detectable by mostly any radar or laser detector we can purchase.
