SKIL 2354-01 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Palm-Sized Cordless Screwdriver

SKIL 2354-01 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Palm-Sized Cordless Screwdriver
  • Max power of 4-volts with 20-percent longer run time
  • Compact, powerful, and lightweight
  • SiteLight LED work light for better visibility
  • Forward and reverse LED indicator shows drilling direction
  • Lithium-ion power battery holds charge up to 18-months

Let me start by saying that I loved my original Ixo. I still have it and use it. The battery has worn down so low and I needed a second one anyway... so I went ahead and ordered two of these for my shop.

The old version came with a charging cradle that held a selection of 10 various bits. The new version comes in a blister package that is a nightmare to open. It doesn't have a cradle. It just has a wall-wart charger that plugs into the bottom of the tool. It also only comes with 5 bits. Bits are not an issue, as they're cheap enough. The charger is inferior in design, however. Same output power and charge time, but just not as classy as the original.

The old Ixo was made in Maylasia. This one was made in China. They kept the price point the same, but eliminated accessories and moved production to a cheaper plant. Typical business in production these days.

That said, the overall build quality appears the same from the outside. I don't know if it will run for 5 years or so as the old one did. I certainly hope so. I will come back and update my review if I have any issues with this newer model. It certainly doesn't feel like some of the cheap crap we've been seeing these days coming from over there.

Performance of these little drivers is pretty incredible. I've used them to drive wood screws a couple of inches, self tappers into aluminum, etc... I make primary use of it as a string winder for guitars nowadays. (heavy usage)

The slow speed of it makes it very torquey and yet easy to control. The battery lasts for a long time from light usage. It will suffer if you use it for heavy driving, though. The Li-Ion battery in my original one went for a couple years before showing substantial degradation in performance.

I opened up my old one and found the battery to be the very typical 18650 Li-Ion battery which is widely used in small tools and remote control cars, etc... These can be ordered online for less than $10 each and soldered into the Ixo if you are competent enough at that stuff. I will be replacing the battery in my original one and continue to use it in the future.

If these new ones start to degrade, I will swap those batteries as necessary. The motor, gears, electronics, switches, etc... all seem to hold up really well.

Compared to the Ryobi Tek4 mini driver, which I have used extensively, this one is far more compact and delivers the same performance. They use the same battery (although the Tek4's modular batteries are sealed in plastic and not replaceable, and likely similar motors. The Ryobi comes with a clutch, but it makes the tool clunky. The Skil delivers with something that you can actually stick in your back pocket and no frills. The Ryobi looks more like a power tool and this one looks more like a toy. I prefer the tiny size and same power, though.

I recommend this tool to everyone. Even with my complaints as stated, buy it.

Bring back the cradle, Skil (Bosch)!!

UPDATE: Swapping batteries in mine with LG Chem Li-Ion 18650 Cylindrical 3.7V 2800mAh has made these things amazing. The stock battery is 1300mah, so the speed and power feels like double with the upgraded battery. It holds a charge a lot longer, too. (these seem to die too quickly)

I've been in the cstr biz for 25 years and bought more tools than I can recount (thousands). I personally own perhaps 10 different drills, and have handled many dozens more of all styles and makes.

I recall a small drill I bought for my mother 25 years ago one of the first small battery operated drills what a joke could barely turn a screw and battery life was a joke quickly ended up in the garbage (before we learned to recycle batteries).

As such, I stayed clear of these small "personal" screw drivers all these years. But knowing battery advances in the meantime, decided to pick this little guy up on a whim price was reasonable and could always return it.

To my surprise, found this little guy perfect for the odd job around the house, where I wouldn't bother getting out a larger, more powerful cousins and instead use an ubiquitous screw driver that is slow, but gets the job done.

Did a bit of painting recently, and found it very handy to dissemble some large furniture (the led light was actually quite handy) and to take off wall switch plates. Drove 3/4" screws into dense wood with a surprisingly torquey motor using low speed. And the battery life is very good on my second charge after being around the house a month.

For what it is, this little screwdriver does its job quite well. 5/5

Yes, less than ideal charger, but hey, for $35 what do you expect? One thing I'd have preferred is a slot to store bits on the driver, or at least supply several reversible bits (flat/phillips combo etc)

I was looking only for a handy-dandy little tool which could be stuck in a pocket for those "mobile" repair jobs. This little tool is all that and more. Not only it is handy as can be, its battery life is astonishing. Last week I was able to use it as my sole driver to assemble 4 36" kitchen base cabinets (each requiring roughly 65 screw insertions and tightenings. Power lasted to the last and probably could have gone further but I ran out of cabinets.

The only problem I have is the directional switch is positioned right under where it is most comfortable/practical to put an index finger when using the tool. And it's easy to inadvertently push the switch while exerting drive pressure. Takes a while to get use to that, and even then it's not 100%. A redesign should relocate the switch away from the gripping area. But I can live with that little fault given the overall utility.

I am giving this as a gift as I currently own one and it works great. However, Amazon is not accurate on the description of "what is in the box" as it says "The SKIL 2354-01 iXO includes one iXO SGK cordless screwdriver, one right-angle attachment, a ten piece bit set, one soft case, and one charger." There, in fact, is no right-angle attachment, a 5-piece bit set, and no soft case.

Schumacher SC-8020A SpeedCharge Automatic Battery Charger

Schumacher SC-8020A SpeedCharge Automatic Battery Charger
  • 80 Amp engine start
  • 10 Amp charge rate, 2 Amp trickle rate
  • Charges AGM, deep cycle, gel cell, SLA and standard batteries
  • Charges 12V batteries
  • Includes Tester/Alternator Check

I ordered this battery charger to replace a Die Hard that died. We commonly have to either keep vehicles that are sitting for months at a time on a trickle charge or sometimes jump a vehicle with a dead battery.

This charger does great with everything we hook it to. Some of the settings and displayed feel a little too dumbed-down for my taste.

The main feature that would make this charger a lot better for my use would be charging a battery that is completely dead. Right now, if we want to use this charger on a dead battery, we have to hook a charged battery up to the dead one so that the charger will realized it is hooked up. Once the charger starts the charging cycle, we can unhook the good battery.

Edited....After several months, I have had problems charging some Optima batteries. At times it will stop charging after an hour or so and just blink.

First of all, it works. I've used it to bring one dead battery back to life and right now I'm staying up late baby sitting another dead battery that's connected to this thing.

My problems with this product have to do with useability.

First, the instructions are scatterbrained. The essentialy information you need to use the device is all over the place. I really would have appreciated a single sequential set of instructions followed by the troubleshooting guide. And, the instructions don't seem to tell everything. I had this thing display "OL" in the LED which I assume was "overload", but the little instruction sheet said nothing about this error code.

Second, and much more infuriating, is that the controls are labelled with a font and color combination that is just about unreadable even up close with my reading glasses on and a flashlight on the controls. No, my eyesight isn't that bad! It takes a very special talent to create a product that comes with all kinds of safety warnings, and really looks like you could blow some thing up if you used it wrong, and then makes the control labels almost unreadable. Nice going there people!

I bought this one believing some engineering and quality stays behind the company. Unfortunately it was not the case.

CONS:

1. It has awful design. It is impossible to read button labels thanks to the red background and crappy small font.

2. Voltage readings are not accurate. It lowers the voltage up to 0.8V compared to my calibrated voltmeter. I dont believe it is due to averaging.

3. It could be dangerous to car and battery. As many people noticed about Schumacher's "smart" chargers they tend to elevate charging voltage up to 16-17 V. In my case voltage quickly jumped to 16.5V at 13A and was staying to the end of charging on BMW X3 with AGM 90Ah battery. No, it was not dedicated "desulfation" mode, just a regular charging of slightly depleted 2-years old battery. Yes, before charging I made sure the car went to sleep with no loads on the battery because it can make electronics crazy. I contacted their support and they told me that "Most of our microprocessor controlled units can have a charging voltage as high as 15.4 volts while charging in AGM mode, which has been determined to be safe for most AGM batteries. In your case, you could try setting the unit to the Gel setting, which should have a maximum charging voltage of 14.7 volts". Seems to be glitchy firmware/design/electronics.

4. Very loud fan.

5. Not the best clamps and wires.

PROS:

1. Heavy and durable.

2. Works good on BMW 335i with conventional lead-acid battery. No high voltage issues.

I have used this for over a year and it works like a charm. It is a little noisy but not bad. I use mine in the garage, so it's not like I'm in there most of the time to hear it. It has worked perfect for about a year now. I love it and am glad I got it!!!

UPG UVUB645F1 6V / 4.5Ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery with F1-.187in TerminalsBattery is just as described in the seller's ad.

It took 3 weeks for the battery to be shipped, though. Not pleased about that.

I bought this as a replacement for the battery in my high-powered portable spotlight. That battery, by part number, was no longer available. This one had the same dimensions and amperage rating. The vendor delivered it on time, packaged VERY well, and it fit perfectly. Even the terminals were the same. Now I can get more years out of my light.

I bought this to replace the battery in my cordless vacuum from Oreck. It was tough trying to find the correct battery in the first place. Soldering was required, and outside of trying to find my soldering iron, wasn't an issue. However, I would say this replacement never worked as good as the original, and in fact has diminished in performance surprisingly quick. (To the point, I'm not even using it any longer.) Could I have conditioned the battery better? I suppose that's possible, but in general I wouldn't recommend this as a replacement due to the difference in performance from the first charge.

Whatever you do, don't forget to recycle your old battery! In my case, I get to recycle both old/new batteries AND the vacuum!

BatteryChem 0610786-995 Battery Rejuvenator

BatteryChem 0610786-995 Battery Rejuvenator
  • Replaces buying a new battery every few years
  • User instructions on package
  • Sold individually
  • Tested for 25 years

I used these packets on my 48v golf cart. It has six 8v batteries so I bought 4 packs to give me the 4x6 = 24 packets that I needed for the job. In all honesty, I didn't have the equipment to test the batteries first like the instructions say (hydrometer, etc.). I simply dumped a pack in each cell of each battery and capped them back up. Done. My batteries all measured within about 0.1 volts of one another so I already believed the batteries were in good enough shape to rejuvenate. I figured 4 packs (of six packets) of this cost less than even a single battery so I didn't have much to lose to try this. Long story short: it appears to have worked. My batteries were lasting maybe 50% as long as they did when I first got them and after the treatment, I'd say they're back to at least 80%... and I would say that's a conservative estimate: maybe even better than 80%. How long it will last, I don't know but for now, I'm happy with this product. I took only one star off because, while the batteries do last almost as long as they did new, it didn't restore the original amount of "torque". In other words, I think this stuff restores the battery's capacity but not necessarily the max "instantaneous" amperage that they delivered when new. So it's like having almost-new batteries but maybe ones with slightly lower CCA (cold cranking amps).

I was reading the reviews of these other people saying that this stuff is total garbage and was very surprised. I bought this in hopes of restoring some life back into my Toyota Tacoma's Interstate Battery. I bought the battery new like 10 years ago and over the last 2 years it started dying. More and more sluggish starts, wouldn't start at all on freezing cold winter mornings, it got to where i would leave a charger on it overnight and that would keep it charged for like 2-3 days before slowly starting to get sluggish on starts again. As Interstate batteries are extremely expensive (yes i know i got 8 good years out of it) but the fact that it still showed some life to it i thought i'd give this stuff a try. Obviously by the fact i left 5 stars for this product you can tell i had surprisingly good results from this. I did like the directions stated by putting 1 small pouch (this comes with 6 pouches, 1 for each cell) in each of the 6 cells and then topped off each cell to the appropriate level with distilled water and put the battery charger on the battery for like 24 hours. Well folks my battery is doing unbelievably great, i bought this product from Amazon on December 11, 2011 and my truck still hasn't needed to be put back on the charger since. The starts are fast and crisp, EVEN on cold freezing mornings. This tells me that my batteries cells weren't dead but just corroded with crud that just builds up on the cells over time, but this stuff dissolves that corrosion on cells restoring life back into the cells. Now don't get me wrong i'm quite sure this isn't going to fix a completely toasted battery but if your battery was like mine nearing the end of it's life then this is the stuff for you. I can only speak from my own experience that's why i'm saying that i don't think it will help batteries that are completely dead, just ones that are starting to to die.

I ordered and tried this product. I simply did nothing claimed. It was a total wasted of my money and time. It's very likely my battery was a total failure and NOTHING could restore it. But this simply did nothing except make a more expensive dead battery. That was my experience. I don't recommend this product because it's too close to voodoo science for my taste. I could be completely off base here, so take this review with a grain of aspirin. Or salt.

Schumacher IP-1850FL Instant Power Jump Starter With 12 Volt Flex Light

Schumacher IP-1850FL Instant Power Jump Starter With 12 Volt Flex Light
  • Convenient built-in charger for automatic charging of internal battery
  • Audible low-battery alarm sounds when battery is at less than 50% charge
  • Heavy-duty copper jaw and metal clamps for solid connections to top and side post batteries
  • 18 amp-hour battery delivers 950 peak amps and 250 crank assist amps
  • Polyethylene case resists fuels and solvents

I bought this Jump starter in Dec. 2007 and to this day is working like a charm! What you must understand about this jumper is that it may or may not assist to start a bad battery (a battery that will no longer take a charge and you must replace). I say may or may not because it depends on the size of what you are jumping. Unfortunately all my cars are eight cylinder vehicles, so I am not that lucky. Until this winter, this jumper has NEVER failed to jump start my vehicles. This winter (2011), I did not drive my vehicle for over a month, with the temps in the low 20s, I tried to jump start my car only to have it fail. Well, this was a first so I took the battery out and brought it in to have it slow charged over night. In the morning, I discovered that the battery would not take a charge and was defective. So for those of you who think that this will jump start all cars, all the time NO but it will do what it was intended to do as long as the battery is not defective. I still feel that the Shummacher IP-1850 is a handy tool to have around. I highly recommend it.

It wasn't powerful enough to jump-start my car. I'd been on vacation, hadn't driven the car in a few weeks, came back to find the battery too low to start; the Schumacher did not do the trick. It's hard to say whether this was a fair test. I eventually used, not a jump-starter, but a recharger on the battery, which since then has worked fine. Kipor KDE5000E 5000-Watt Diesel Open Frame Generator With Electric Start

Kipor KDE5000E 5000-Watt Diesel Open Frame Generator With Electric StartThis generator I purchased and am reviewing is the totally enclosed electric-start only version of this model. All other specifications are, I believe, identical. I am not sure if KIPOR still manufactures these models. These generators are made in China.

I am very satisfied with this generator at the time of this writing. It is powered by a vertical single cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine.

This unit weighs about 367 pounds without fuel.

The solid wheels on this generator are about 4" in diameter and do not swivel.

This generator is designed for continuous operation. The electrical outlets are circuit breaker equipped. There is one duplex 120VAC outlet rated for 20 amps, another single 120VAC twist-lock outlet rated for 30 amps, and a single 240VAC twist-lock outlet rated for 30 amps.

The fuel tank holds approximately 4 gallons of #2 diesel fuel.

The generator is rated for 4000 watts continuous duty with 5000 watts peak duty. The diesel engine speed is 3600 rpm at 60 cycles. The diesel engine is fuel efficient. With approximately 2200 watts load on the generator, it consumed 3 gallons of fuel in 10 hours continuous running.

During that running time, I never saw the voltage output drop more that 1.3 volts or rise over .4 volts. The generator cycles stayed between 59.8 60.2 cycles; 59.9 cycles average.

When we lost power during a recent severe snowstorm, I ran this generator continuously for 44 hours. The generator performed flawlessly. It is a little loud, but not uncomfortably so. I couldn't hear it from the house. The generator has a digital LED indicator panel which will give you running hours, voltage, cycles, battery volts and generator load. The indicator panel also will give you diagnostic codes if there is a problem with under/over frequency, overload, low oil pressure, under/over voltage, and battery charger failure.

The generator's diesel engine is not equipped with a glow plug for cold weather starting. I highly recommend installing a battery tender on the generator, since it is electric-start only, to prevent loss of battery performance when the generator sits idle for long periods of time. I don't want a low or dead battery when I need it. I had to crank the engine for about 5 seconds before it started in 28 degree ambient temperature. The little diesel had to warm up for about 10 minutes before running smoothly enough to put on electrical loads.

The generator is equipped with a low-oil pressure warning and shutdown, and a voltage over/under regulation shutdown. There is a mechanical fuel level gauge next to the fuel cap on top of the generator but the level gauge is difficult to read at night. The fuel tank filling port has a removable plastic fine mesh screen.

Access for battery maintenance, checking crankcase oil level, oil filling, and oil filter replacement is cramped and limited by a small, hinged door in the totally enclosed frame. Access to the air cleaner is through a bolted removable steel cover plate.

The portable generator is very robust and heavy; it has fixed steel handles on both ends of the generator and a fixed lifting U-bolt on top. The generator is very difficult to move around on anything other than asphalt or cement. The fit and finish of the generator covers and access plates are very good. The steel enclosure and access panels are tight and do not rattle with the engine running. The generator has a powder coat interior/exterior finish that appears to be good quality and should stand up well to water/moisture. The smooth running engine is mounted on rubber vibration dampers and the generator frame does not vibrate. The generator appears to be well constructed with good structural welds on the frame.

The operator's manual I received from the equipment dealer was a black & white printed manual downloaded from a website. I did not receive any electrical plugs, tools, or extra filters with the purchase of this generator.

This is not a whole-house generator so power management is critical. It ran my 240V well pump, 120V heating boiler, pellet stove, fireplace heatilator fan, coffee maker, refrigerator, freezer, and a few lights in my 3,200 square foot tri-level home. It will also power a small toaster oven or an 1100W microwave if the well, boiler, coffee maker, and most of the lights are off. It is a great little generator, but it will not run all of the above mentioned devices at the same time.

The generator is equipped with its own cranking battery charger. This generator does not provide external DC power nor is it a true sine wave inverter, so running computers and other devices may cause glitches or erratic performance for your high-end electronics.

However, when the power went out for almost 2 full days, in the dead of winter, this generator kept my house warm, and provided hot & cold running water, lights and other conveniences. No problem.

I am satisfied with this generator. When I needed it, it delivered. I recommend it.

Schumacher MC-1 Manual Battery Charger

I bought this item because, at the time, it was advertised as shutting down when the charge was full. I see that this error has now been corrected on Amazon's web page. I wanted to use it to keep the battery on my tractor from discharging and freezing while the tractor was in the barn over the winter. However when I received it, the manual stated that it must be disconnected after full charge is done. If you can live with that, it should be fine. I never actually tried using it, as it didn't meet my requirements. Congrat's to Amazon for correcting the description.

This is a pretty simple trickle charger. It doesn't provide much feedback, other than when it is on and when it is off. I don't think there should be any worry of overcharging, as it was designed to provide a constant "trickle" of power to keep a battery at top charge. I have owned and used this unit for the past year without any problems. If you want more feedback, buy a unit with gauges. If you are just looking to keep your bike (or lawnmower) starting on demand and want to save a few bucks, this unit is very good.

I had a minor snafu (my fault) with it being shipped to the wrong address, but Amazon was amazing about helping me get it resolved and had it out to me just one day after the expected delivery date. So as far rapport goes, top notch.

As for the device itself...it's really, really basic, but it gets the job done. The clamps are smaller than those on your standard jumper cables, which is a boon in my case, because I couldn't fit normal sized cables into the tight area where my terminals are located. It charged faster than I expected and it kept my poor dying battery alive about a month until I could afford a replacement, so it was definitely worth the money in my book. Plus, it's small enough to carry under my seat if I plan to travel long distances and want it there just in case.

Unfortunately, I had to use a heavy duty extension cable with it because I have no exterior outlets, but if you can park even relatively close the cable is plenty long and sturdy to stretch across a car width or so.

However, don't need a converter for most of electronics when travel overseas (e.g. laptop, camera charger, electric shaver, etc) All you need is an adapter. This converter is pretty heavy, approximately 1lbs and take a lot of room. I am not saying this is a bad product, but an unnecessary product if you are planning to use electronics with a converter incorporated. If that is the case buy just a lightweight adapter. Before you buy this, check carefully to make sure if you need a converter or an adapter.

When it first came out from the package, I was a little worried. It didn't look like a quality converter. But when I brought it along when traveling overseas, it worked fine all the way.

Nice set of adapter plugs, but the transformer is a piece of crap. Blew out at 2 in the morning taking the breaker with it in a whiff of ozone. Thought it had taken out my cpap too. Woke the landlord and got everything reset. Pretty exciting way to spend your first night in London. Found out the CPAP is auto switching and didn't need the transformer anyway. Caveat emptor.

This converter can do it all. Unlike adapters which don't convert the voltage, this will handle the most delicate electronics without worry.Very straightforward to use. Handy travel case. The bulk and the weight are the only drawbacks but still worth the trade off.

This converter/adapter kit was a total waste of money. Would not stay in the plugs in Rwanda.....:( Fortunately a traveling companion had a set of adapters like I had sitting at home....they fit and worked very well.

HQRP Pair MC4 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M (1F2M & 2F1M) for PV / Photovoltaic Syste

HQRP Pair MC4 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M for PV / Photovoltaic System plus HQRP CoasterIf you plan on connecting two solar panels together you will need to get these, or something similar for your panel type. These arrived quick and in good condition. Easy to install but make sure that you have marked the wire connecting your solar panel to your controller. It is important to know the positive and negative sides. I like to put a piece of colored electrical tape on the positive side... and not down by the batteries. That will not help you when you are on the roof. Put it on the roof side of the wire.

The good is that they work, and they seem durable enough.

They bad is that they didn't pair exactly with the connectors bought from the same company. Actually, F-M was too stiff that a flap broke, while M-F was loose.

These connectors are tight fitting very durable and has rubber seals to make them water tight. Allows you to connect two solar panels in parallel into one feed. A little pricey but seem woth the value. Wiring is easy the tool offered is not needed.

UPG BATTERY APC ES500,ES550,LS500,RBC110,RBC2 12V 7.2AH

APC has more than one type of unit that is labeled 'ES500'. This fits ES500 units that have the model number on the bottom 'BE500C'.

This does not fit ES500 units that have the model number 'BE500'! You need this type instead: Replacement Battery Cartridge for RBC46

Check the bottom of your unit to see which you have before you order.

This battery came quickly, looks like it was refurbished, but that's fine with me. Fits my BE500C unit (but not my BE500 unit) and is working fine. I took one star off because of the vague description.

I got a new un-interrupted power supply at work when my old one began to randomly beep. I was instructed to throw the old one away. I did some research on APC's website, however, and found that the battery on my old UPS had done all it came to do. I priced new OEM batteries and quickly realized they weren't worth the price to salavge this old surge protector, but when I found this one on Amazon, I decided to invest in the battery to have a like-new UPS in my home office. Great way to re-use something that was destined for the landfill!

The battery in my UPS unit failed after a few years of use and the failure light and beep kept flashing. Fortunately I found an exact replacement on Amazon. I have been using the battery for several months now.
