- Locate your vehicle using real-time GPS tracking technology from your internet browser or mobile phone

Battery power is better than I expected...it lasts me about 3 to 4 days depending on how much I locate it or have it scheduled to locate every 10 to 30 minutes. Its larger than I thought it would be so hiding it was a little more difficult but I found a good hiding spot...
It will text or email you when battery is low or car is moved (if it's in good coverage area) Also when the car is moved it will locate the device every 5 minutes for two hours which I liked.
So, all in all, if the coverage in my area was better and it was a bit smaller, it would be perfect!

I have no problem recommending this product. It has worked as advertised and met all my expectations. The pricing is a little high, but as I've learned (read my Zoombak disaster) you get what you pay for. I keep this device in an enclosed trailer for some added security, and when the battery gets low, you are notified. You have unlimited locates, and the shock and perimeter functions work flawlessly as well.Great product.--aj

I just found the exact same thing on Ebay from eclectic_mart@yahoo.com for $189, free shipping! Called Amazon and they said they will not match the price but will allow me to return it. Sorry, Amazon, I've placed my order and am sending the Amazon one back. Amazon is always a few dollars higher but worth it. This is the first time I've found such a huge discrepency and I will remember to double check Ebay in the future!I've had it for a couple days now. The battery only lasted a day or two and takes a long time to charge. So I paid Best Buy $100 to have it hard wired directly to the battery in the car my 16 year daughter is using (and my 14 year old son is lusting after). I thought of just clipping the car charger plug off and wiring it myself to the car wiring. Luckily, I did not try this as the plug contains a resistor. The proper way is to buy a female plug that you wire (either always on or just on when the vehicle is on) and permenantly plug the male end into it. Best Buy did a great job of hiding it.
The couple days I've had it has tracked great! It will show the position every ten minutes or you can get continous tracking for ten minute intervals. It show location, speed and direction of the vehicle.
It's pricey at $300 plus $180 for on-line tracking. But after reading all the problems with the competing device, I am very glad I bought this one so far.
It has an arm function that is supposed to alert you by email and by text message to your cell phone if the car is moved. It can be armed from the computer after the car is supposed to be home for the night. This function is not currently functioning on my unit. I emailed tech support today and hope to follow-up here if they respond.
The arm function is great for kids that might make a unauthorized copy of the key and sneak out for a midnight joy ride (not that we parents ever did that smile).
But even if the arm function does not work, I can always have the website plot where the car has been for the last day or for several days and pick up any unauthorized activity.
I think it's cheap for the peace of mind of knowing where my kid and the car are and how fast they are driving!

Ok I have had this for a few days and had my daughter track me while I was out of town and driving around California. So far it has performed exactly as I had expected and I am pleased.
My daughter calls it very cool. She can follow my travels and know where i am when I am out of town on business.
Things I like are real time tracking so you can put the unit on a vehicle and follow its movements
There is a slight lag and the position when not moving is not perfect. It will give the position to about 15-20 feet,
ie it will show the car parked 2-3 parking spaces away from where it actually is parked in a typical parking lot.
It will also give you a route history and the interface is easy to use.
I have not put the battery time to the test yet. That is what I will do for the next few days.
Good solid product. Worth the money.
Buy it you wont be disappointed.Installed the product on kids car and we logged in for the first few months to realise our kids were pretty safe drivers and their driving habits were consistent. Texts and emails me constantly with incorrect information. It has become white noise and after a few months, we stopped paying attention to it. I emailed to cancel after the first year subscription was over. Was told my credit card was already charged and they do not provide refunds, but as a super nice courtesy, they would only charge me for the current month, plus one month as well as a $30 activiation fee. There are way cheaper apps for your kids phone that accomplish pretty much the same goals. DONT GET SUCKED INTO THIS PRODUCT!! Most likely you will have to hire someone to install on your car, and that can be expensive.

I bought the 12/24 jump and carry in 2005. I am a heavy equipment mechanic so the 24v has come in handy so many times to numerous to list. I have powered large inverters to power grinders and drills of of this thing. Pretty much everything you buy now if you don't treat it with velvet gloves its junk in a week. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT ONE OF THEM! I have not taken care of this thing at all and every year I expect the worst; It'll finally give up the ghost. Its been 7 years now and this year after sitting flat all winter inside the toolbox of my seldom used pickup I plugged it in last week and today I used it to start my diesel trencher and it worked as good as the day I bought it. The only negtive I can thing of is the way the handle that you pull out to switch voltage is orientated to the body. If the jumpstart gets banged around a lot the handle will break off. The unit still functions fine it just mainly cosmetic. Other than that....ya....5 stars!!!Want Jump-N-Carry JNC1224 3400/1700 Peak Amp 12/24V Jump Starter Discount?
used once since got it and it worked perfectly. i like the feature of always being plugged in and ready to go.We gave it the test. Someone had left the key on the on position on a De icier truck. These trucks are use for deicing planes. They have to be up and ready in the before snow rolls in. We can't be tieing up another truck for a dead truck. We usually have to hook another truck to it and let it charge up for an hour. Or drag out the charger and electric cord which is very heavy. 150 ft cord.
Brought out the Jump and Carry, switch the plug to 24 volts. It kick over with no problem.
Did do some read up on it before buying. It does have a built in protection not to over charge the unit.
Con: manual say it has leds on it for charging. None on there so we don't know when its done charging.
Belkin Micro Charger for Apple iPhone (Black)
This unit from Belkin is a nice contrast to the bargain basement cables.
The cable is thick-even thicker than the original Apple supplied cable. As a rough guideline, it is roughly 2/3 as thick as a typical ethernet cable. That may or may not translate to better performance, but at least it feels like the thing won't fall apart in six months.
The connectors are solidly attached. They are not one-piece molded, but have a rubber-like sleeve extending about 1/4" down the cable, so there is at least some stress relief on the connector. In other words, the wires should stay attached to the connector for normal use.
The apple connector body is quite a bit larger than the metal connector, meaning it may be a tight fit for some iphone cases, although mine works just fine. The plastic case is roughly 1/4" wider than the metal part of the connector in all dimensions.
The power adapter also appears quite well made, and it USB connector on it holds the cable tight enough so that it isn't going to fall out. All the surfaces are smooth and the corners are nicely rounded.
The black finish is looks pretty cool against my black iphone/case and ipad (which lives in a black case).
I didn't measure the charging times, but I tried it on both my iPhone4 and iPad3, and it seemed to charge as quickly as I have ever seen it. This is not always the case with the cheaper cables-where charging can take 2x or 3x longer.
My iPhone synched through the cable to my PC with no issues.
The only negative is that the cable is a bit stiff, and wants to maintain its original "kinks", and puts up a little bit of a fight when you try to coil it up. Hardly worth mentioning.
Overall, I'd be happy with this product, and will probably buy additional units to scatter throughout the house. If you have something that charges from a USB and you need to charge it from a standard wall outlet is the way to go. Plugs into the a wall charger and will take any USB interface, regular or micro. I use it to keep my Iphone and Ipad topped off on when stuck in airports or waiting rooms. Works well, no headaches. This version doesn't come with a USB cord so you have to provide it.

Extra chargers are always handy. This one is particularly handy because it has the option to be used both as a USB charger and a wall charger. The cable is sturdy and a good length. As other reviewers have pointed out, it tends to stay permanently kinked but that seems minor. It's a bit on the pricey side but not bad for a high quality, versatile charger.Milwaukee 2663-22 18-Volt M18 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring

I have always trusted the Milwaukee brand tools but this one is the best !! I used to have a corded Milwaukee impact with 300 ft-lbs, never had trouble with it, and sold it for almost what I paid for it. On a full charge I went over to my buddies garage to test it out and impresed everyone. First off everyone wanted to play with it, then I changed 2 tires on a Bobcat (the reagular one couldnt even budge the lugs), did a 4 wheel rotation on a van, even striped down a whole truck transmission, and still had two bars left on the battery !!! I definetly would recomend this tool to anyone. The first time you use it to change a tire on the freeway, it has paid for itself !! Milwaukee has a great reputation, awsome waranty, and even has parts available if needed !! Dont buy some China piece of crap likle Kobalt (Kobalt dosent even make the parts to fix the tools !!) buy from an American company !!I went from an older Snap-On cordless impact to the Milwaukee and have no regrets. Several people I work with have the Craftsman Lith-Ion Impact and they were very impressed with the Milwaukee as well. 450 ft.lb. vs 300 ft.lbs in that case and for not that much more money. Its a great addition to my tool box!Want Milwaukee 2663-22 18-Volt M18 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring Discount?
Ok, I read many posts here and around about cordless impacts. To self disclose I am not a paid wrench by any stretch of the imagination. I am a serious do it yourselfer who has formal training as a shop teacher. While I don't use power tools anymore everyday, I know tools. That out of the way, I have no real shop here at my house currently. I work in the driveway, the grass, etc. It sucks. I have plenty of tools that do the job, but all have drawbacks. Pulling the compressor and hoses from the shed, the extension cord from the cellar and the air tools out of my box to do a five minute job is painful, I have an older B&D/Craftsman electric impact that has served me well but struggles on real work. The design predates the newer hard hitting impacts by some time.
I wanted a cordless impact in the worst way. Snap On was the way to go everywhere I read. The new wrench looks tough, but it was beyond my price range heading into the holidays. I bought a Milwaukee 1/2" Set with 2 batteries and the 3/8" bare tool for right under $500. Only down side with this way was that I didn't get the light that comes in the set. I have a Makita 18V set a few years back, so i will use that light or my LED Rechargeable and save the $50 for the kids at Christmas. If you are jumping in and want both buy the kit, I imagine the light would be handy.
I did some tire swaps the first week, and both guns worked well. I pulled lugs from 3 cars with the 1/2" and did a focus tire swap with the 3/8" gun. I was impressed. But, as we all know, tires and lugs are easy. This weekend I did front wheel bearings on the Focus. Pulled tires, tie rods, strut bolts, Ball joints with the 3/8". No problems and the car is a 2002 and has 80,000 miles and a several PA winters full of salt on it. Then I used the 1/2" to pull the axle nuts, and they were a little rusty, so I wire brushed the threads and this just motored them right off. My electric struggled with axle nuts and I often would use a grinder to wire brush the threads, oil, and break loose by hand before the electric would help.
I am impressed. I am going to look for some tough things to break loose in the next few weeks, but I am satisfied this will do the job for me. Did I mention I am still on the first charge. The battery indicator makes this so nice to use, the 3/8 is at 3 of 4 bars and the half is at 2/4 bars. Time to keep on wrenching. This is definitely a why didn't I buy this sooner tool and I highly recommend it.i am a auto mechanic and i absolutely love this milwaukee 18v impact gun. lots of power and really nothing stops it. would recommend to anyone. i have had it for about a half a year and had no problems.

Schumacher PI-200 Instant Power DC to AC Power Inverter - 200 Watts
- 200-watt power inverter with 400-watt peak surge power
- Has LED indicator and convenient on/off switch
- Includes 12-volt cigarette lighter and accessory plug
- Features a high-speed cooling fan and overload protection with a low battery alarm
- 115-volt AC power for running computers, cell phones, lights, power tools, television, radios, and CD players
The PI-200 has been my constant traveling companion over thousands of miles of roads and has never failed me, plus it has about as many features as you could ask for. 200 watts is more than enough for charging the items that travel with me. It also features a low battery alarm should it drain the source battery below a certain level. But don't think that means you can continue to pull power through your car's cigarette lighter after the car is shut down for the simple reason that turning off your ignition also turns off the power to your cigarette lighter.
The workaround for this would be to find an adaptor going from a female cigarette lighter to two clips. Then attach the clips to the battery and plug into the other end of the adaptor. Then keep your inverter handy and shut it off if and when the low battery alarm goes off.
Built like a tank.

you need to make sure the things you need to power are less than 200 watts. I bought it for a camping trip to power an air mattress pump but the wattage exceeded 200w. It worked fine for other things, eg phone charger, camera charger. Just check the adapter for the amps and do the math (wattage = ___ amp * 120 volts) to make sure it works for the device.Love it! With a power hungry myTouch 4G you need to be close to a re-charging capability. I was glad to see this product because it seems to meet my needs, has the correct cables, and does not have to be mounted anywhere. The only problem is, it also needs to work.
The first one came dead on arrival (DOA). When I plugged it in, the Channel display was just dark and blank (with or without my phone plugged in). When you plug the phone in it is obvious that no charging is going on. Just to be sure, I tried plugging it into my auxiliary plug and my other car's plugs. My old T-Mobile charger works in all these outlets... I just do not use that phone anymore.
Gomadic's customer support was excellent. They sent me a replacement and I got it in two days. The only problem is that the unit has exactly the same problem as the first one. I wonder if they got a bad lot from the manufacturer. Hopefully, they will test the next one before they ship it to me.
Update: The third time was the charm. Gomatic provided yet a third device and this one worked! Sound is excellent through my car FM radio with little or no static. I do have to turn the volume on my phone up almost all the way and turn the radio volume up a little higher than I would on a normal FM Station, but the sound is excellent. Also the charger seems to quickly add a boost to the phone so even a short charge seems to help me make it through the day.
One thing potential customers should be aware of is that this unit is not intended to be a hands free device as it does not have a built in mic. You will need to use a bluetooth headset to make phone calls, but when you make a phone call the media volume mutes so your call is clear. When you finish your call the music is back...
I now give it a three but mostly because of Nomadics customer suppport.
Thanks Nomadic Customer Support.Order this product for my wife for christmas she loves it. Easy operation. The only thing keeping me from rating this product a 5 star is becuase of the sound. I can hear interference in the speekers at a lower volume.decent quality when the charger is not connected but when it is poor quality. And the 3.5 wiring is garbage barely lasted a 1week and a half... Good charger tho thats all it does now!! Dont waste your money.

INTRO
-----------
This is the second power bank I have had the pleasure of reviewing, the first being the RAVPower Power Bank. I would like to first review the TimeTec Xamp2 in its own right, and then do a short comparison between the two.
IN THE BOX
-----------
Inside the box, you will find the Xamp2 power bank, an apple-like wall plug (1a), two extension cables and 5 connectors. The bank also came with a mesh-like bag which is a nice addition, but offers protection only from scratches. You will also find instructions, although this is mostly self-explanatory! The device came pre-charged for me, but I wouldn't count on it. This power bank does not come with Apple's proprietary charging cable, probably to avoid the licensing fees. This didn't affect my rating, but it seems to be a much-asked question on power bank reviews.
DESIGN
-----------
The Xamp2 is nice and small measuring just 4"x2.5"x0.75". It is relatively light, and while you probably won't want to carry this around in your pocket, it won't weight down a bag/purse.The power bank has two output USB ports, one rated at 1a and the other at 2a. The 2a port is very helpful for charging tablets such as the iPad, that otherwise would charge quite slowly. The Xamp2 uses a Micro-USB port, something which other power banks also seem to have. This was a disappointment as I prefer to carry as few cables as possible in my bag, and with my iPhone cable, mini-USB for card reader/camera, proprietary cable for bluetooth and several others, it's getting a little crowded. I took half a star away from the final rating due to this factor. Another little feature is an LED flashlight that can be turned on my double-clicking the ON button. This is actually rather handy, and although has little to do with a device charger, has been useful due to the fact that I keep this charger in my night-stand. All of the included cables and connectors seem of reasonable quality personally I prefer white cables so that was a plus for me!
PERFORMANCE
-----------
Charging the device: with the included wall plug, it did take right around nine hours (as advertised). Using my iPad wall charger, that dropped to around seven.
Charging my iPhone: from 9% battery, my iPhone 4 took two hours to charge. Not too bad at all, and I was using it a little to check text messages while charging. I haven't tested this, but with a +-1400mah iPhone 4 battery, you should get around five charges from a full Xamp2 charge.
COMPARISON TO THE RAVPower Power Bank
-----------
Capacity: 8400mAh (Xamp2) vs. 10000mAh (RavPower)
Size: 4"x2.5"x0.75" (Xamp2) vs. 5.4"x3"x0.6" (RavPower)
Versatility: 2xUSB out (Xamp2) vs. 2xUSB out (RavPower)
Charging: Micro-USB (Xamp2) vs. Proprietary (RavPower)
Both include important connectors.
RavPower does not include wall charger.
OVERALL
I would probably rate this product at 4.5 stars if I was able to, but I haven't rated it as 5 merely because I reserve that for products that I would change little on or exceed my expectations. Without using a (now) rarely-used micro-USB connector, this would truly be a 5-star product. This is really rather good though, and I struggled with how to rate it. It has been a lifesaver several times, and is perfect for travelers, hikers or business people on-the-go who may not have access to a wall socket or computer to charge their phone or tablet. It has earned a permanent spot in my computer bag, and has replaced the RavPower that I received simply due to the fact that it is smaller and lighter!
Happily recommended as a very nice product to own!The timetec power bank charger has two different amperage USB ports so that you can charge your iPhone and iPad at the proper level of amp output simultaneously (you just need 1 apple cable as the universal adapters only comes with one apple attachment). Having both of my devices about half full they charged for about an hour and now they are both full battery and the timetec shows only 1 indicator light out of 4 down. Meaning I could probably charge both devices from nothing twice before this timetec would loose its charge. Wonderful to have around with me on the go. It's lightweight and comes with an led light on it in case you need a flashlight. Thx timetec I'm very happy to have this around with me.Received this product from TimeTec International. The price is very competitive. The Power Bank is the size of a small cell phone, and it comes with a handy mesh carrying case six adapters and an AC plug-in and two USB cords. With a double click on the on-off button you have a great LED flash light. I immediately charged an Android cell phone with it in less than two hours, it usually takes much longer. This Power Bank is easy to use, easy to store and easy to pack in a suit case, backpack or computer case. This will come in very handy when traveling. Great gift idea or stocking stuffer. Our iPad2 only requires 6,600 mAh to fully charge. This juice pack has 8400mAh and is enough to charge my iPad together with my smartphone. If you got the newer iPads, then this can charge it about 75%. It is very compact in terms of capacity to its physical size.
You charge this with the included microUSB cable. It will charge on a PC, but preferably use an AC wall charger for faster charging. It can charge two devices at the same time using the two USB slots. One slot is rated 2.1 Amp for iPads and tablets, and the other one is for smaller devices like cell phones, etc.
Most connectors that you will need are included in the box; iPad/iPod connector, PSP, Blackberry, Samsung, Nokia phones, micro USBs, and more. Nope, it doesn't have Nintendos. It even has a tiny ice cube wall outlet charger similar to the iPod's. The cool thing about it is that you can also use it to charge your gadgets directly to a 120V outlet; it is rated 1A.
By pressing the power button twice, you can turn on the LED flashlight. Press twice again, And it will turn off. It is easy to tell how much more juice is remaining by pressing the power button once. The 4 LED lights represent approximately 25 per cent of capacity per light.

This appears to me to be the same BC209 as the more expensive all yellow version. This one is advertised as a maintainer but the directions and box refer to it as a maintainer/charger just like the yellow version. The paperwork is dated 2011 so it is a up to date model. I bought this to maintain my starting battery in my motor home while in storage which is most of the time. The "house" charger in the motor home only maintains the house battery (not the starting battery)so I was going through starting batteries way too fast from lack of use. The charger does exactly what I wanted which is slow charge then maintain the battery level. The included plug adapters are all nice quality. I chose to use the cigarette lighter adapter and it works great. The light indicates when it is charging and when it is charged. The unit runs without making any noise at all. I actually put my ear to the box and could barely hear a slight hum. From 1 inch away you can't hear a thing! Also there is no odor from the unit either. I could not be happier and highly recommend this product. Now when it is time to travel I can just start her up and go!Read Best Reviews of Stanley BC209 Battery Maintainer Here
This charger works as good or better than chargers costing 5 times more. I bought 3 of them to use during the winter. Great value!Want Stanley BC209 Battery Maintainer Discount?
The Stanley BC 209 Battery Maintainer is one of the worse battery maintainers that I have used/purchased. The charger gets extremely hot, has wide range in charging voltages (13-15V), and for me, stopped working after 6 months. The overall design is basic and feels cheap.Stanley BC209 Battery MaintainerIm currently trying a Stanley BC209 (black case)trickle charger I bought in the past few months & so far I like the flashing LED for charging & a solid light for charged.
The cables are rather long (good or bad depending on use) but does have a detachable (from the batt) plug.
Its very versatile with its 3 outputs & 3 mounting options.
OTHERs I used (BELOW)
The Schumacher & the Sears chargers look the same in every way EXCEPT for the brand sticker.
Ive had both (2) so called different brands to stop working (with-in 5-10years) but still have a 3rd charger that is still working(in-which was my newest).
I had 2 permanently mounted, 1 in my boat, 1 on my lawnmower & the 3rd one I made removable from my jet-ski.
As for the short cables (AC & DC sides) I liked & disliked the lengths depending on the mounting location LoL.
Over time things I noticed was;
1)one half of the plastic had cracked in half on the one on my lawnmower.
The green LED was on & the red LED would just flash & not charge.
2)the green LED stayed on but would not charge (no steady red light) on the one in my boat.
I read in the reviews about someone not loosing fluid level in there battery from charging BUT I noticed (over like 2 winters) I would have to top off the fluid levels back off in the battery's the following spring ("in which was normal").
I ended up using a timer to activate my chargers through the night to try & reduce this fluid level drop but did notice when I dropped power the green LED would stay lit using the batteries power.

1. Very hard to read manual/documentation. Not comprehensive seems vague and incomplete instructions.
2. On screen menu has poor navigation:
doesn't show how toi activate the 6 LED lights.
set date and time menu selection is there but cannot activate to actually assign date and time.
3. No specification of what home plug-in adapter can be used to charge the unit instead of the included car
plug-in.

This does work with my navigon until the end connector after 1 month just came apart and what's the funny part is it claims to be a thick durable connector....thats a plain lie. spend the few extra dollars and get something OEM.I got this product from BargainCell. When connected to my Navigon 7100, the GPS unit is not getting charged. No fault with the GPS as I am able to charge it using the power cord and there is no issue with my car's output as I am able to charge my iphone using another cable.I have asked for a replacement and it has been 15 days and haven't yet received one. I have contacted amazon and they said they have submitted an A-to-z Guarantee claim on my behalf for the order and if approved, my card will be reimbursed.
So in short, I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.

Works as advertised. I use it on my son's ATV and works very well. It has even taken a few big drops and still works perfectly. The 1.5 Amp output is better than other lower end chargers for charging new batteries. This unit also has better technology to handle new gel batteries. Will by a second one for my motorcycle.Want Yuasa YUA1201501 Smart Shot Battery Charger Discount?
Warning: Although these battery chargers have only a 1.5 ampere output and will not begin charging unless they are connected correctly, you are connecting them to a battery which can provide up to 900 amps of current! Shorting the terminals of an automotive battery can cause a conductor as heavy as a screwdriver to explode! Furthermore, overcharging a battery with a fault not detected by a charger can cause the battery to explode! Sulphuric acid will burn your skin instantly and will blind you if you get it in your eyes! If you don't intend to read the several pages of safety instructions at the beginning of the manuals which come with all of these chargers then also buy the cigar lighter attachment listed on Amazon. All three chargers now use the same quick disconnect; I'm not sure about cigar lighter wiring.Choosing a battery charger is a matter of personal preference and intended use. A 45 AH battery that has been run dead will take over 30 hours with a 1.5 amp charger at best and more likely twice that to fully charge that battery... if it can be charged at all; for that you will need a big charger. Note: Charging lead acid batteries at high charge rates (over 1.5 amp) is not recommended. This review only addresses small chargers designed to keep a battery from becoming discharged while it is in long term (10 days or more) storage. At least one manual says that a large capacity battery may have its life reduced by charging with the low current these chargers supply; that pertains to all small chargers [Storage Battery Maintenance & Principles, US DOT 1998 pp 3 & 10].
Schumacher 1.5 amp battery `maintainers' will restore a discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) at a relatively high rate (almost as fast as a 5 amp unregulated charger because the charge rate of all high current chargers fall off quickly as the battery voltage rises), hence the name "SpeedCharger". After charging the battery to approximately 14.8 volts the Schumacher turns off and monitors the voltage. (A fully charged battery will measure 12.6 volts after an hour of `rest'; a fully discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) will read 11.4 volts.) Once the Schumacher detects that the battery voltage has fallen below 12.6 volts it reverts to maintenance mode until the battery is fully charged. Note: 12.2 volts is about 50% discharged and 11.4 volts is just about dead (there isn't much difference in the voltage reading between a fully charged and fully discharged battery). Since all lead acid batteries `self-discharge' over time, periodic low current maintenance charging has been an accepted way to maintain storage batteries in optimum condition for 100 years [Witte pp 66 & 287, Filiquarian 2012]. The Schumacher automatically detects whether it is connected to a 6 or 12 volt battery. Our Schumacher restored a battery that only measured 12.2 volts after two days charging with a 10 amp charger to 12.7 volts.
Deltran 1.5 amp (not the .75 amp Jr which we just bought) battery `tenders' will restore discharged batteries in the same length of time as the Schumacher and faster than all trickle chargers (we have all types of chargers in use, some for over 40 years). Deltran (including the Jr) uses Yuasa's philosophy for maintaining the battery after it is fully charged, lowering the charging rate to 10 milliamps (almost nothing). At that low rate the battery will not lose electrolyte [Witte pp 151, Filiquarian 2012]. Deltran lists 3 modes: bulk (charging), absorbtion (probably refers to desulphation) and float (green LED solid). The red LED flashes briefly while it is testing the battery. The Deltran Jr is nice for maintaining batteries in vehicles which are used once a week it is a large power `cube' with a very long DC cord. I used cable ties for both sides of the quick disconnect in case I forget to unplug it... it just pops off as I back out of the garage. I really like the red flashing light when the Deltran Jr. is plugged in but not connected to the car.
The Yuasa 1.5 amp SmartShot has a metal case. A switch selects 6 or 12 volt and, like the other chargers, it will not work if connected backwards or set to the wrong voltage. Note: None of these chargers will work with rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries; I'm not sure about any other rechargeable batteries. Yuasa (mine says Interstate Batteries) has 5 stage charging technology: testing flashing yellow LED (I like that), charging solid yellow, desulphation stage (I'm guessing), completed/float mode green LED. I guess the 5th stage is if the battery fails the testing stage flashing red. That's where Yuasa gets the name SmartShot. I've used two of these for 8 10 years.
Sulphation is an issue that might come up when buying a small charger. The Deltran, Schumacher and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers will keep sulphation to a minimum. `Soft' sulphation always occurs normally in automotive batteries. A low current charge rate is known to control normal sulphation [Witte pp 49 & 53, Filiquarian 2012]. Hard sulphation cannot be corrected without extreme measures; trade in the battery.
Wattage of the The Schumacher, Deltran and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers is less than 20 watts when charging and 3 5 watts connected but not charging. (Don't be confused by the 10 milliamp output of the Deltran device; that is on the DC side not the input.) Connecting a timer with a 6 watt clock motor to turn the charger off and on doesn't make sense; it uses more electricity than an idling chargers.
Trickle Chargers like our 1 amp Goodyear draw 12.5 watts continuously while connected to an old battery; so we usually use that one on a night-light timer. It had been charging a used backhoe battery (to keep it from dying in case the new one fails) for two months and though it wasn't apparently boiling off the electrolyte when the top of the battery was damp I disconnected it. FYI only water evaporates from batteries; sulphuric acid in a fully charged battery is almost all bound to the plates; plus the boiling point is above 600 F. The specific gravity (the only way to know for sure) of that 8 year old battery measures 12.5; so even though the voltage measures 12.6 volts it isn't taking a full charge. (A fully charged lead acid has a specific gravity 12.65 when fully charged.) Don't use trickle chargers on good batteries without daily monitoring. As usual, prompt delivery, exactly as ordered.
Easy to assemble, just plug in the proper connectors. It comes with ring lug connectors as well as the big clamps, which aren't all that big.
I bought it to maintain the battery in small two seat convertable that I don't drive as often as I should. Alas, to get to the battery, I have to open the trunk which turns on the trunk light, using up much of the charger's output. Haven't figured out an easy way to keep the light off. So it doesn't charge much, should have bought a bigger unit. My bad. I could charge through the 12 volt accessory outlet (cigarette lighter) except that turns off when the key is removed.
I did contact Yuasa with a question by email, they got right back to me with an answer. If the battery to be charged is very low (mine was) the charger won't do anything. Needed to use a big brute force charger to get the battery up near 12 volts before this unit would activate. Manual doesn't mention that. And the unit gave no indication other than the charge LED being off.
So, not perfect but still useful.
