This is a reasonable product for the price. I liked that I could power it with the included car adapter without any batteries required. With the small attached antenna, it seems the range from inside a car is probably only a few hundred yards. So I bought a magnetic roof mounted antenna at Radio Shack for $35 (I later saw one at a truck stop for $20), plus a $5 adapter to convert the normal CB antenna plug to the smaller plug on the Midland. This improved reception, I'm estimating to about a mile radius (my estimate is based on conversations I hear from truckers in the opposite direction on the freeway; at 60 mph (so about 120 mph differential speed), a conversation comes in and then fades out in about 1 minute total. But a 1 mile radius is still pretty pitiful for a CB, you really don't hear much of the chatter even on a busy truck freeway like the I-10 between California and Arizona. And transmission seemed even weaker; I couldn't get anybody from the opposite direction to hear me, but rather only people a few hundred yards in the same direction. So in short, if you want something to chat with a caravan buddy, two of these would likely work fine and are a great price (and you don't have to mess with batteries like with many newer handheld two-way radios). Add an antenna if you want the bare minimum ability to communicate with truckers. For anything more, you have to lay down more bucks for a much more powerful CB radio that can blast a signal and can pick up signals much farther away.For those who buy a CB for their kids to have fun on family road trips, be aware that some truckers have really really foul mouths (I have a very high tolerance for those things, and even I think some of the things a few drivers say are just downright gross). It can still be fun, but be ready to turn down the volume!

I think you're missing a fundamental fact about handheld radios. They don't work well inside of a car. For people who are used to mobile CB's with an external antenna, of much greater length, sitting out on top of the car and using the body of the car as a ground plane... you just can't compare that to a handheld. You're going to hate it. If you're inside of the car, the metal body of the car is destroying most of your transmission. You need to get the antenna outside of the car. If that means getting the necessary adapters and wiring your handheld to a magnetic mount antenna on your roof, then so be it. I've bought 2 of these. Outdoor reception is great. Sound clarity is better than the FRS radios a friend has. The only drawback has been poor reception from inside a vehical. They do have the standard jack for an external antenna which can be picked up for around $20. Mag mount to your car and reception is great.

I am rating this product 3 stars. My experience with this product was not one of disappointment but from an engineering or design aspect, one where a good product could be a great product, except for one small detail. I would recommend this product to others with one caveat: Before you use the product, unscrew the nose cap (pointed end) off of the plug, add some super glue to the threaded portion and re-attach the nose. Let it cure for a bit before you ever insert it into your car outlet jack. I am an engineer and I notice things from an engineering perspective. This product failed the first time I used it. It is mostly well designed and I love the fact that it is fused to protect your car's electrical system from an overload and I also liked the locking feature in the plug whereby you can lock the angle of the plug in a certain position. All of that works well. The one thing that I would consider a design flaw is the spring pushing the positive electrode outward is way too strong. The threads for the tip are very fine and the spring ( at least in my experience) causes the nose portion to strip out of the threads and in my case, break off the threaded portion, rendering the device useless. Oh, I have ordered another one, but next time I'll make this one modification. I hope the manufacturer takes note of this flaw and redesigns with a less aggressive spring. So far, so good...it works like a champ out of the box. I haven't loaded up all 4 ports yet, but it handles the two cigarette-type plugs fine. Nice blue LED lets you know it's working, and I like having the circuit breaker there to protect my devices in case of a surge. The swivel adapter has a lot of intermediate settings the picture doesn't show, so you can position it where you like. I didn't give it 5 stars because it's just a little bulky and I wish the plug was in the middle instead of on the side.Save 24% Off

Anyway, I bought it to run my computers and monitors off since they run more efficiently on 110v than 220v. I got two 6 volt 200AH deep cycle "Hoppecke" batteries and they supply enough power for around 11 hours running at an average 110 Watts (yes Watts, not volts) with the series-connected battery voltage falling to just under 11 volts. So far I'm very happy with it. The fan makes a low level purring noise but not too noisy. Time will tell whether it's reliable..
October 4, 2011 It lasted exactly a year! Last night it failed and smoke poured out of the inverter. The LED flickered red/green. I switched it off immediately. I was able to repair it myself and I have put instructions on a web site. (You'll have to search.)

I didn't think much of that at the time, but it was an indication of things to come.
During tests before I traveled I ran at loads up to approximately 120 watts and the inverter worked just fine. It never even got warm enough to turn on the cooling fan.
While camping at an NHRA event the unit failed with no warning while running only 24 watts of LED lighting. There were perhaps 20 hours total of running time on it.
As an engineer, I would say a failure at less than 10% load is an indicator of either poor design or poor quality control.

Clean output, very solid construction, fan didn't even come on under moderate loads. Great for sensitive electronics. If you're looking at this inverter because it meets your needs, do not hesitate to purchase as you will not be disappointed.
*Please note* The unit that I received was not yellow, but blue. Didn't bother me at all. In fact, I kinda like the blue color better.
If I had one complaint about this unit, it would be that the 12v lighter cord that comes with the unit is a little short (approximately 18"). The quality of this unit when compared to its competition pretty much makes that gripe a moot point IMO.

I used mine to limp my full size fridge through a power outage. It was able to handle that surge current without a hiccup. I ran it off a 12v deep cycle marine battery. Now I have it installed in my car. I have yet to have a problem with it. I felt like I was somewhat abusive to it but it took it like a champ. I think it looks pretty sharp too. The reason I bought this brand is that we have some 24v units at work that have been reliable. The voltage and wattage meter is a nice touch as well. You will need to buy wire and connectors for it. 8 gauge wire is perfect and the crimp on rings should have a 1/4 inch hole to fit the studs on this unit.
As a long haul truck driver it gets used every day to run my microwave,laptop and phone charger.
My TV is connected to a smaller 500 watt inverter.
The Power Bright causes some problems with the digital tv signal but no problems with anything else.
For the new HD televisions you need to go with a more expensive sine wave inverter.

Last year when the power went out I realized that keeping the refrigerator going was my top priority. When the items arrived I connected the power inverter to a deep cycle battery and then plugged in the refrigerator. I kept it going for half an hour and noticed no appreciable drop in the battery's voltage. I then recharged the battery with my trickle charger. I bought it to use as a backup in case of power failure, to power my sump pump. At a recent storm (Sandy), I did not have to use it but I did test it to see if it would run my pump. Which it did reasonably effortlessly without practically dropping the voltage at all. If it helps I have a 1/3 hp sump pump (Zoeller M53).I used a deep cycle battery to run my test, but probably on an ongoing basis (if and when there's an emergency) I plan to hook it up to my car and keep the engine running. Also, it seems most convenient to me to just use jumper cables to connect it to the battery (stand alone, or in my car). If someone has a better suggestion for me (and others), please do put in a comment.
I've only had it for a few days, and I will be an occasional user (if even that) so I have no idea if this thing will last me a long time or not. That's the reason I am holding back one star, and I will come back and update my review as time goes by.

I bought this on the recommendation of M. Shatila to avoid damaging the battery on my Earthwise model 60120 lawn mower with the OEM charger that overcharges the battery if it is connected too long. The OEM battery also does not properly charge the battery to full capacity, regardless of how long it is connected and causes the battery to become very hot. The Schumacher INC-2405 charges the battery to full capacity w/o overheating it and then switches to a trickle charge maintenance mode so that it can be safely remain connected indefinitely during storage. The Schumacher INC-2405 costs about half as much as other 24 volt smart chargers that are available and is a lot cheaper than constantly replacing fried batteries. After more than 36 hours connected to my 24-volt battery on my lawnmower, the indicator light that is supposed to turn green when the battery is charged is STILL red. I may have to splice the connector into my original, 'dumb' 24-volt charger which required just under 24 hours to charge the battery fully.I checked the voltage being provided by the charger, about 0.02 volt although it was 36 volts previously.
Boo-hiss.
UPDATE: I just finished reviewing my splicing and the polarity of my connector. It absolutely is correct according to continuity and after re-reviewing the diagram in the manual, as well as the polarity of the plug as indicated on the device. Maybe I will have to have the charger replaced due to a faulty part, and maybe I'll have them replace my lawnmower battery if it cannot be charged.

I got this item to charge my daughters 24v Polaris car. I mounted it on the car and just plug it in to charge two 24v 24mAh battery. I like that it will not over charge it and gives a green light when fully charged. It is also not as big as i thought so that is a plus.

Great product. Sound is excellent no echoing. Only glitch with my radio, is that it won't automatically switch to Aux and receive incoming calls. I have to change radio to aux and then answer a call. I bought this on clearance for $12 at wally world a few days ago. I will tell you right now. It is worth it. The only issue i have is that you A. wind up with a ridiculous mess of cables and B. Must switch from radio to AUX Manually. A little cable management solves problem A and I don't listen to much radio these days anyway. I did have to modify this to get it to work to my liking. The casing around the mic is kind of fragile. I noticed the casing nearly splitting away from the mike with every button press to answer calls. I used a tube of super glue to reinforce the plastic tabs holding the housing together. The glue for the mounting base is also too weak. I wound up having to use the screws provided to permanently afix the mic to an optimal audio zone. The audio switching splitter is the key to this device. Without it this thing does not work. Make sure you attach the correct plug to the correct slot in the splitter. RTFM!!! I honestly couldn't be happier with this setup. It saved me from having to buy a new stereo in a junky old car. The price amazon is selling this for currently is kind of off. You could buy a bluetooth enabled stereo for $80 these days. If you do find a good deal like I did though you won't be disappointed.
