Seemingly just another auto gadget fortunately the Equus 3721 is more sophisticated than its ponderous description. A breeze to connect to any car's 12 Volt electrical system. Simply push into the lighter socket or an auxiliary power outlet now found in many newer vehicles.With the engine running the instrument constantly displays battery condition with an LED light; amber when marginal, red if the battery is discharging. A green light indicates a correctly functioning electrical system. All is well with both battery and, most importantly, the alternator.
The Equus is also an accurate voltmeter. Digital read-outs give exact voltage in the electrical system. Potential alternator problems or a failing battery will be indicated by below normal voltages, plus an amber or red light. Extra information is a battery icon graphically showing total battery charge. Tending towards erratic read-outs, and therefore unreliability, it is not the unit's best feature.
Equus's instruction card is easy to understand. The unit is well made, sturdy, easy to connect and to transfer to any 12 volt system not having its own voltmeter. Also, as a supplemental monitor in an RV, or a bigger boat with a remote 12 Volt outlet in a sleeping area far from the main instrument panel, overall battery condition condition can be monitored while camping or at anchor.

The Honda 2005 civic has a marginal charging system. This meter is ideal for determining when it is time to turn off the radio to reduce load on the alternator. Voltage reading is very accurate, much better than 1% as measured against a small Beckman pocket meter, which in turn has been checked against a Powerex Wizard aa cell charger. Warning lights function well.Some things to note when using this tester: Standard voltage of a 12 volt battery is 12.6 volts. Some deep cycle absorbed glass mat batteries will read 12.8. This is after loading the battery by turning on the headlights for 10 seconds, to remove surface charge. Note that while the lights are on, the voltage drops quickly at first, then the voltage stabilizes. Turning off the lights causes the voltage to rise again gradually. After a few minutes the voltage will stop rising. If the voltage settles at 12.6 (or 12.8 for AGM battery) battery is charged, assuming that the battery is near 68 degrees F. Lower temps raise the voltage, higher temps lower the voltage. For a standard battery figure about 12.66 volts at 32 F and 12.54 volts at 104 F battery temperature, not air temperature.
After a car has been running for awhile with no lights, radio, wipers, AC, heat or window defroster, the alternator may cycle letting the battery voltage drop for a while before kicking in. This is OK provided the charging is steady shortly after turning on the lights. An intermittant alternator will cause the red light to turn on and off when headlights are on.
The bar graph for battery condition is not very useful as the meter has only voltage information.
The instructions do not state that this tester is for negative ground cars only, a small quibble as positive ground is not common.
Had I bought this device six months ago I could have avoided killing a brand new battery in six months.

I purchasted this unit to use in a small aircraft that has no built in battery monitor.The unit failed within one hour of use.
It was too cheap to bother to send back so I took it apart.
I found two loose screws holding the circuit board and display in place and a bad solder joint.
I repaired the solder joint and tightened the screws and the unit has been working fine ever since.
Unless you are an Electronic Engineer like me I would not recomend this unit.
Strangely enough, the internal components appeared to be high guality.
It was not assembled correctly.
It's OK if it works.

just got the monitor from amazon based on the reviews here. the actual device is slightly different from it looks in the picture, with rounder edges. i guess the new product has been revised. also the protective plastic film is extremeply easy to peel off, a bit too easy i would say. or it might have something to do with the weather. here in singapore it's 30C all the time. the device has good build quality. the monitor can show two different tiny icons above voltage reading, under the battery and charging modes. the LCD is clear with bright blue backlight. basically it doesnt cost arm or leg but does all i expected. i will leave it plug in all the time in my car. i am sure i will be alerted by the unusual low voltage one day to realise the time to replace my battery. that will be the time i can recover the cost of this product by saving the expensive recovery service.

As someone who has worked on and used commercial Motorola radio equipment, I do have a bias for Motorola. Granted these FRS radios are nowhere near the quality and durability of those heavy duty higher power commercial units, but for the price you pay, they perform as expected. The MR350 has all the features one would want for emergency or other communication on most outdoor activity. Although the radio did not have the heavy duty solid feel of a competitor I tried recently, it did quite well on a recent rainy day hike. Very poorly constructed (in China of course) Neither battery cover will latch so they now have duct tape accross the back of them. The switch for the led light is opposite the push to talk switch so its hard not to operate both of them at the same time. Just poorly made-looks like something you'd buy your four year old at the dollar store. I haven't field tested them yet so can't comment on range,etc. If it wasn't such a hassle these would be returned.

This charger has a desulfate mode and if it senses your battery is sulfated and not taking a proper charge it will automatically engage. I have not tested this function nor have I extensively used the start function.
Another positive feature that most smart chargers do not have is the ability to engage and charge a battery that is almost dead. This charger will engage and charge a battery that is as low as .1 volts. Most smart chargers while not charge a normal car battery that is below 6-8 volts. (Very inconvenient if you accidentally left something on and ran the battery completely dead)
I bought this charger to fast charge my RV batteries (while dry camping) when running off a generator. It testing it charges them at least 2-3 times faster than the normal onboard RV charger/inverter and quickly takes the batteries to 100% (in just hours) rather than requiring an entire day like most onboard chargers. -ScottSo I've been neglecting one of my cars. Haven't driven it much because well, it's old and doesnt have a/c OR heater. Had to move it and found out the batteries dead. Jumped it so I could move the car. Drove it for 30 minutes and all was well because it started fine... Until i had to move it again. I looked into getting a trickle charger but it would be just too slow. I settled on this one because of the brand name and the features.
Got it fast via Amazon Prime 2-day but it took a couple tries to get the darn thing to charge. It must have been discharged for a long time because batteries that are left discharged for a long time will get "sulfated" and not be able to recharge/hold a charge.
The schumacher thought it was charging a 95% charged battery because of the sulfation. It took a couple of tries and fiddling with the headlights while this thing was connected to get a good 2A desulfating charge (blinking charging light) from a low%. It may blink bad bat a couple times but that means you should just try again. My battery got progressively better and eventually got back up to 100%.
I now have a revived car battery and a fast charger than can float/trickle charge if needed.Very satisfied. It operates as advertised. The only negative comment would be that the post clamps are not
real strong and are small.The faceplate is trilingual (which in itself is a little annoying) but, because of this... the writing on the buttons is tiny tiny. If it had only one language, the letters could be 3 Times as large which would still be fairly small. As it is now they are FAR to small to read from more than 12" away (at least for me and have pretty good vision, not perfect).
The second and BIGGEST complaint by far is the "Computer Control" limits how long it will produce a "Starting" Charge. On my unit it is 5 seconds, then it goes into a "Mandatory" cool down cycle for 3 minutes during which it doesn't charge, it doesn't start it just doesn't anything. I KNOW, I KNOW this is a "Safety System" to protect the electrical system of the vehicle. But why does something marketed as PRO-SERIES have a "Child Lock". I am a PRO, if I want to crank the starter for 30 seconds, that is MY decision, not the chargers. In most cases, I am under the hood and someone else is operating the ignition. And usually a vehicle that has a drained battery takes more effort to start than one in a normal condition. About the third time you have to wait for 3 minutes to get another 6 seconds of crank out of this unit... you want to show it to the wall in a very high velocity introduction. I purchased a FAR less expensive NON "Computer Controlled" Unit that does what it is was purchased to do. This one is relegated to just overnight and maintenance charging. I would have returned it but it took me several uses to get totally disgusted with the starting operation and by then I had run out of time to return.
So look VERY CLOSE at the control panel, Don't buy it for a Pro-Starting Charger and your good.
P.S. I did contact Customer Service at the Manufacturer to ask if they had a control panel overlay that had larger print, they were very nice but answered in one word "NO"

I had been using another Schumaker charger, but it wasn't near as fast as this one. I really gets the job done fast on both deep cycle and AMG batteries, plus it shuts off when done so it does not kill the battery. I purchased this item at Wal-mart while on a business trip. I left my charger for my GPS at home and the GPS uses a mini-usb charging port. It worked perfectly for the GPS which draws a very small amount of power. I then used it with my laptop which uses a 70 watt adapter, well below the rated 140 watts. The unit fried in less than an hour. It burned out two fuses in my car. I foolishly tried it in a second cigarette outlet after it blew the fuse in the first one.The unit smelled of burned electrical circuitry. I thought that perhaps I just got a defective unit until I read a review on Amazon about another Powerline brand inverter where the customer had the same experience with two units.
The unit is very compact and light. It easily fits into my computer bag and is 1/3 or less the weight of the typical converter. In that respect the unit is perfect but don't expect it to last long running a laptop. If they make it more durable for a laptop or any device pulling over 50 watts, this would be a great item.
A few days later I opened the unit and I could see some type of white frothing that looked like whip cream but it was hard. I could not tell if this occured when the unit was frying since the smell was gone. The unit has a 25 amp fuse which was still intact which explains why the current by passed it and blew my car's 20 amp cigarette lighter fuse.
I think the amps on this should be less than that of cigarette lighters so that the unit should burn out first. I am no electrician but I believe this could start a fire starting at the unit.

Product arrived exactly a week after ordered via UPS. The shipping material was very professional, using thick box and peanuts with all the caution on the box label for the mail handler. I don't know who the credit should go to, ITL or UPG? ITL is the middle-man, and the shipment came directly from UPG and shipped within one day (according to UPS tracking). The processing between Amazon, ITL and UPG took a week. The product was shipped directly from a local UPG warehouse (locally to where I live), which made the packaging very professional and shipment fast.The battery does have larger terminals than the older one I had, but no worries for me. I just replaced the existing lugs and crimped on the right size. But, this could be troublesome for others who do not have the right tools, materials, and skills to do this.
The battery appears brand new and fully charged. My alarm LED went away as soon as I replaced it with this battery. I would say, I give credit for ITL for selecting the manufacturer (UPG) directly and not another reseller or distributor that could have shipped me a battery that has been laying on the shelf for years.

I manage a field team and have to have my office in the truck. I used to try to have 12 volt adapters for all my gadgets. 12 volt chargers are not usually smart chargers so if you leave your device plugged in beyond the battery's capacity it begins to cook and destroy its ability to hold a charge. Mobile device batteries are expensive, so you don't want to be replacing them unnecessarily. The 110 volt chargers are called smart chargers because they sense when the battery is at peak capacity and dials back to a maintenance level of input. At first I thought a converter would be too bulky but they can rest under a seat nicely or in my case under the drink tray. So there they are, all my adapters all plugged into two power strips with just the device end of the cords sticking up ready for easy access. The printer and laptop plugged into one power strip and everything else plugged into the other power strip. This way I can flip the rocker switch on the power strip not in use disconnecting it and its resident adapters while the other adapters are happily doing their jobs and avoid scuffling around on the floor of the truck trying to plug in the charger I need at the moment. (If you are going to be powering multiple adapters at once, you'll need to pay attention to the total wattage being used.) The added convenience of being able to plug in any transportable household appliance is just icing on the cake. Coffee anyone? (Don't be trying to power a 1000 watt microwave oven. Its an alternative power source for MOBILE battery powered products.) That said, it handles my printer and laptop simultaneously without stressing its capacity. With the Panasonic Toughbook CF29 laptop plugged in alone, the cooling fan doesn't even kick on in the inverter.Note: The instruction book (yes I actually read them) said you shouldn't leave the converter plugged into your power port unattended as it can drain the car's battery even when the converter is turned off. From experience, I can tell you it only takes about an hour or a little more to deplete my truck's battery if the engine isn't running while this unit is powering my laptop, so...

I have multiple inverters to power laptops, camera and other electronic equipment. This PowerBright PW400-12 was purchased at the same time as the Stanley PC509 500W.The PW400-12 looks good and is quite heavy. The weight is a good thing, generally, as it usually indicates some higher quality components. Under load (i.e., driving two dual-core laptops) it performed well. The unit got quite warm, but the fan was not audible over the sound of the engine.
Though I am very pleased with the unit overall, there are a few wishlist items though:
1) The spacing of the sockets is just a hair closer than I need to insert two 'wall wart' power supplies or a charging unit for a Canon DSLR camera. I carry a power strip with me as a workaround.
2) No USB charger is available. Many cameras and other electronic equipment can be charged via USB. I carry around a USB hub that conveniently charges multiple devices when powered from my laptop. A built in USB plug would be very useful.
Also note that the full 400W capability of this unit cannot be driven by the cigarette lighter. These plugs are typically 100W-120W. Cables are provided for attaching directly to the battery terminals. I did not need the higher wattage and did not test. If you don't anticipate needing the full 400W (800W peak) then you can save some money by going to a lower rated unit.

I have 3 different brands of 400w inverters and this is the best one I have. Unlike the other two brands (shhh...no names please), the cooling fan only runs when the unit needs to cool itself off. That is a major selling point to me. I don't like to hear my inverters and those with the fans continuously running usually vibrate and 'buzz' their cases.I have 3 PB inverters (two 400 and an 1100) and all have performed flawlessly their entire lives. My first 400 is 4 years old now and going camping a dozen times a year. I use it to power a 23watt compact florescent light in camp as well as charge my cell phone, laptop from a deep-cycle battery.

It does what it should do. I charged my laptop on my car. The temperature is cool because the rating of this power supply is 400w and my laptop is less than 100W. But I can not listen audio from my laptop while charging. The switching noise is pretty strong. You can hear the coupled noise from the power supply in the car speakers, and you can not just bear with it. Lightweight, easy to use...what more can you ask for? This is my first solar charger, so I was a bit hesitant on which one to order. I finally went with this one because it said that it would also charge my laptop. I don't know if it will do that (next item to try), but it definitely charges my Walkman and Kindle. My only (very minor) gripe is that the instructions seem to have been cut off or they forgot to complete their information. The booklet tells you that there are 4 ways to charge the charger. 1: solar power (no kidding! lol) 2. USB (ok) and then...nada. Obviously, plugging it in is another choice, but there aren't any adaptors for that. So, so I used my Amazon Kindle cord w/adaptor (to change the USB to one for an electrical outlet) and then attached the appropriate plug for the device. The booklet said it would take around 4.5 hours to charge, but it was much, much faster than that.Update: the charger does NOT have enough power for my laptop, but I don't want to downgrade the rating for that. It works well for the smaller items, so next time I'll know to check the actual rating on power provided and what's needed for a particular item(sry, but I don't know the tech terms). I would definitely buy this item again.
Pros: convenient three panel design; not much bigger than a cell phone; the built-in flashlight is a bonus
Cons: Completely warped in low heat sun; takes at least five days to fully charge; full charge is only enough to charge my phone about 5%
I left it outside on a picnic table in full sun (springtime in Ohio, around 70 degrees) and by the third day, the plastic on the charger was so warped that it wouldn't close properly. When closed, there is almost a full inch gap at the top between the first and second panels. I wasn't too worried about it at that point because it wouldn't effect the functionality of it.
On the fifth day, when all four blue lights were finally lit up, I used the provided adapters to plug in my Evo 4G. Fifteen minutes later, none of the four lights on the Kiwi would light (the charge was completely gone), and my phone hadn't charged enough to even be noticeable.
I hoped that it was because it was the first use, so I tried again, but three days later, in mostly full sun, only one of the blue lights is lit, and the warped plastic is getting much worse.
I expected much more than a 5% charge for my phone from five days worth of sun, and I expected a product made to gather sunlight would be able to withstand the springtime mid-western sun.
At best, it's just a warped, expensive flashlight. I guess I'll just have to try another brand, and I recommend you do the same.

I purchased this unit Via Groupon and I have been calling and emailing them for over a week now. They NEVER return and voicemails (forget getting a person on the line) and I have had one email returned out of 5 and still on response.Worthless product with no support! Spend your money anywhere else...
September 2012 Update I have made over 20 calls to their support number and tried numerous emails and even had friends call the support number trying to get a response and they have NEVER returned one call or email. This must be some kind of fake company out of someone's basement. The website is registered to the below contact, and again, NEVER purchase anything form this site. I wasted 50.00 and have no recourse.....

Mine never worked it won't charge with a cord or in the sun I have called customer service since its covered for a year but I am always forced to leave a message and no one calls me back. My friend's worked for a little while until the solar panel and white plastic casing melted in the sun. You are supposed to leave it in the sun in order for it to charge. How is it that the plastic is that cheap? My friend's also didn't hold a charge for as long as the description states it needed constant charging. Very dissatisfied with this item.

This is my second Kiwi charger. I lost my first one when I placed it on my parked car during a folk festival, then forgot it when I drove off! I missed it so much I bought this second one. This is certainly a great product. Not only can it brighten up the room for you, you can also charge your cell phones with it. Iphone batteries are known to die pretty quick. I bought this kit from a different retailer at a higher price but it was worth it. We used it for camping the whole summer, dropping it a couple of times and it still works just fine. The lamp gives a pleasant light for reading and lasts for ages.
