I had high hopes for this thing. The design is okay, but it could be better if the cables were a bit longer or it was mountable somehow. My biggest problem with this thing is that it starts to screech in the most annoying way as soon as I connect my laptop to it for recharging, or more than one phone (none of which pull more than 100 watts) while recharging.
I've had it about a month. I'll see if they'll replace. It's a disappointment so far though.

This is an excellent product. I used it to power a Dell netbook on a recent trip from New York to Toronto and back. It stayed cool to the touch and was completely silent, in fact the fan never even came on that I could tell. The casing looks amazing, it looks like carbon fiber (not real carbon just some kind of film on the plastic)

I recently purchased the tunepower, even after reading the above reviews, as I do have firewire on my laptop, and, I have the ac wall charger (THAT COMES WITH YOUR IPOD WHEN YOU PURCHASE IT!) I have yet to test its full capability for holding a charge, but I have high hopes, as everyone who seems to have followed the instructions for this item, apparently gets good power from it. Read the instructions! They explain that if you plug your ipod into the tunepower (4gig and mini models) and it's internal battery is low, you will only get 4 or so hours from the tunepower, but your ipod will then be charged. Once again, read the instructions! And as for all the people complaining about the firewall charging, did you throw away your apple issued ac charger for your ipod, when you bought it? Or do you just not realise that it has a firewall port on it? And besides that, if for some reason you just never got an AC charger with your ipod. THE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS CLEARLY STATE THAT IT REQUIRES A FIREWALL PORT ON YOUR COMPUTER, OR THE AC CHARGER THAT CAME WITH YOUR IPOD! Stop writing bad reviews for reasons that don't warrant a bad review! And no, I don't work for Belkin, I just like most of their products.
I will follow up this review with results on how long my tunepower battery lasts with my ipod mini.
1 week later.
Ok, so I ran my ipod mini using the tunepower for 5 hours, and the ipod battery is still full. Also, for 3 of those hours, I used my iTrip. The indicator light on the tunepower went red after about an hour and a half, but has stayed there since.
So, 5 hours, with 3 using iTrip. No bad. Will have to see if it makes 8 hours.
Great product! Remember to read the hardware/system requirements before purchasing!

I was just browsing around and thought I'd see what others thought of this item. I was expecting rave reviews from everyone. Man was I wrong.I bought one of these about a year ago or more, and couldn't live without it. I work a 10 hour shift and my 4th Gen iPod (click wheel model with b/w lcd screen) would give out on me by about 6.5 hours. Using this, my power meter will barely drop below full after 10 hours of fairly high volume listening.

Great product, took my iPod camping for over a week and it was still going strong. Not sure why all these dummies gave it one star because they can't read the specs!!! Requires IEEE port... that is firewire!!! Oh well their loss as this is a high quality battery that I've owned for several years now and it is still going strong. You get what you pay for!Belkin replaced my F8E464 Backup Battery Pack on warranty, after it failed, with the F8E490 TunePower. I routinely got more than 12 hours of video on my iPod using the F8E464, but I had to carry 4 AA PhotoLithium batteries, 4 spares, and the iPod recharger as well. I only do carry-on baggage on flights, and every ounce and cubic inch makes a difference considering all the gear I need to take. The TunePower offers at least 7 hours of video (with the iPod brightness turned down to about 20% this is more than adequate for in-flight viewing) before switching over to the iPod's batteries. More important, the TunePower with its charger makes for a more compact and lightweight solution than before eliminating the bulk and weight of 8 AA batteries and the iPod recharger. The ability to operate and charge both the TunePower and iPod from a single AC adapter is a benefit. The cradle is a good solution for packaging the TunePower and iPod together, and protects the power cable and jack. But, I have to take the iPod out of its protective case to use it because it offers no protection for the screen and click wheel. No big deal. Finally, the manual creates confusion about a FireWire recharging scheme there was no FireWire cable in the box, but I don't care: there's no FireWire jack on my laptop. Overall, I am very pleased with this Belkin product and think it is a real improvement over the earlier solution.Power Bright TK2000 2,000 Watt 220/240 AC Voltage Converter Travel Kit
The "Product Description" is for a completely different item. This item does not have a transformer, does not have a power cord, weighs one pound not 26 pounds, and is much smaller than what is listed in the description. It should not be used with anything electronic such as computers or televisions.Went from US to Europe, bought this mainly for hair dryer (1600 watts) and straightner (1200 watts)...
My straightner burned my hair bcs it overheated to a point i couldn t touch it and melted the outside of it (it was a good and exoensive straightner i had for 2 years, with no problems...)
My hair dryer blew up after used with converter for 15 min... A great quality hair dryer...
Not enough loosing my equipment, as i pulled it out of the wall the european plug fell of, making it impossible to re use it...
Not worth the money, bad quality and it costed me 5 times it s price for my losses.
I d return it it it was whole, and not in the trash somewhere in Europe.
Basically gave it a star because i could not submit the review without a star...

I recently purchased this charger to recondition a moderately sulfated car battery. It was one of the few chargers I've been able to find that claim to have equalization and desulfation as features.First, the equalization voltage does not appear to be high enough to equalize a lead-acid battery. In spite of leaving the charger running for several days now, the voltage has yet to reach the proper equalization voltage level. The result is that the electrolyte has not been equalized as it should have been.
Second, it does not appear that the "Reconditioning" feature does anything to reduce sulfation. Over the course of a day's time, the battery voltage continued to decline and there was no change at all in the specific gravity of the individual cells.
On the positive side, it does claim that it has an automatic shutoff feature, so perhaps I will keep it and use it for regular purposes. My old battery charger has no automatic shutoff and doesn't know how to float charge a battery, so it needed to be replaced anyway.
If you are not looking for an equalization charger, this is a good buy. But if you're one of those rare people with a hygrometer and a jug of distilled water looking to perform maintenance on a battery, this is not the product for you.

I have 2 older sears chargers and this model VEC1095A is the best smallest charger on the market. I have had it and other larger vector chargers for at least 3 years. They have always worked flawlessly. They display the condition of the battery which is very helpful. The no spark or reduced spark camps make the original Vector chargers safer to use as their is less chance of coming in contact with other metal objects which may be near charging terminal. The clamps are heavy grade with a strong spring which helps make a solid connection to the battery terminal. Clamp cable length is quite sufficient 6 Feet. No problems noted with fan operation after 3 years of use. I use this to charge automomobile gel cell and AGC type batteries and small lawn mower batteries. Power cuts off once sufficent charge is attained or unit notifies you of a bad battery with an open cell. I even may buy another. Smaller Vector models are easier to handle and get more use than my larger ones. I Used it to recharge friends BMW automobile battery with no problems as wellef. Would recoment it to anyone who wants a small efficient, dependable charger. I bought mine in 2010 around the time Vector was taken over by Black and Decker. One of the larger Vector Units I have 1098A is now made or supervised manufacturing by Black and Decker hence the larger Vector model number changes to 1098ABD by adding BD to original part number noting it is made by Black and Decker. The original Vector engineering team created a great battery charger. It will recondition batteries that are sulphated. It isn't an overnight process. If the charger had parts with a much higher mean time before failure, this would be a winner. Unfortunately someone at Black and Decker decided to save money. The result is a product that although great, doesn't last long enough to be worth purchasing. With the increasing cost of batteries there's a real need for a reliable product that can desulphate and restore auto batteries to the point they can be used far longer than expected.Unfortunately with an el cheapo Chinese fan and the short-lived keypad switches, a great concept was wasted. If a company dedicated to quality instead of Black and Decker had bought Vector, this would be the standard by which all automotive battery chargers would be compared.
Black and Decker's price point market strategy is good for those who use a product very little. For somehing as expensive as this charger, the consumer deserves better value.
I would not recommend this battery charger. No parts are available and the small DC brushless fan that is the source of the multitude of failures does not appear to be a standard size for those that might attempt a home repair.

If you are going to get an off-grid solar panel...THIS IS IT. I have looked high and low for the right panel and this thing out does every stinking single one of them. Mind you, this is before I even got the thing. This is just with research alone. For example, solar cells have a module efficiency rating that is anywhere from 7-18%. Pretty crappy ones have around 12%. Average ones have 14-15%. Really good ones have 15-16%. THIS ONE HAS 18%. This is the ONLY solar panel you will find out there that has a TRUE module efficiency rating of 18% (basically, how well it turns sun energy into electricity). A lot of them will try to claim that they get around 18% and such, but when you look at the actual manufacturer specs, it's only around 14%.It also comes with a kind of glass that reduces reflection so that it can absorb as much of the sun energy as possible. It is specifically designed for some pretty heavy weather. It has MC4 connections which are easy as cake to deal with (you can get MC4 splitters and such to run these in parallel which is also easy as cake).
Believe me, I did a lot of math before purchasing this as well such as price-per-watt compared to module efficiency rate in relation to panel size, etc...and every single time, it pointed to....the Grape GS-S-100-TS. THEN, I receive it. After having some polarity "issues" and getting them fixed, I finally get this thing up and running. Well, On a really cloudy day (I live in WA...) I was pulling in 4-6 amps (not AH mind you) for two of these panels (200W total) before the MPPT controller upped it a couple more amps. That's not too shabby. I could charge about a 90AH battery in about a day or so. Then I wiped down the panels (they were getting dusty and dirty from all the rain), and a sunny day happened to emerge and wow...I'm pulling 15 amps on two panels. As long as I keep these clean, and it's at least somewhat sunny (somewhat even!) I can literally charge two 100AH batteries in parallel within 3-4 hours. I couldn't believe it. I put two 100AH batteries on it before I went to bed one night, and by noon the next day, they were both not only fully charged, but fully equalized (the controller bumps up the voltage to 15VDC to give each cell in the battery equal charge and to hit any cells that might have gotten "skipped over" so to speak).
All in all, if you are going to get any type of off grid system, or just a couple panels to have backup power, and you're willing to spend a little more cash, THESE are your panels. They are amazing. The numbers impressed me immensely, and when I received them, their performance impressed immensely.

I have two of these panels in a four panel system on my boat. I use a Blue Sky 2000e MPPT 20A controller. There are no special grounding concerns. Grape Solar indicated to me that positively grounding the frame is not necessary in an off the grid system. The instructions that came with mine indicated otherwise but I am told the new instructions have been corrected. If you are concerned I would call Grape: they were very helpful. That said I find the performance and build very good. I would say that their low light and off axis performance is especially good so that even on cloudy bright days or early morning sun I am still getting quite good outputs. Far superior to and much smaller in size than my 10 year old Siemens 85W panels.
I heartily recommend them.

Grape Solar has two 100 watt panels. The GS-S-TS at Amazon has 32 cells. The GS-S-100-Fab 36 at Costco has 36. Otherwise quite similar. In marginal conditions the 36 will beat the 32 every time. Check the specs. Both good panels but if price is close go with the GS-S-100-Fab 36.16 Pack MAHA POWEREX 2700 mAh AA Rechargeable Batteries

I have been using these Powerex batteries for exactly one year now. I'm a Geocacher and a very active one at that, and my GPSr's tend to be rather needy in the power department so my partner gave me a set of these last year and gave them a go. Immediately I was impressed at the fact that I was getting at least a 25% improvement over both the Duracel and Eveready reghargeable batteries I had been using. Now a full year later, I am still using the same set of 8 that I started with and quite honestly, I don't see myself ever changing to another brand if the quality remains the same with my next batch. These batteries still last me a good day and a half of heavy use on my Garmin 62S and about a full day in a Garmin Oregon with the backlight in use.I'm sold.

I purchased this after my phone stopped charging with the wall charger. I was pleased to be able to have an extra battery. I was able to always have a charged battery in the phone and one on the charger. Extended? In size maybe but I didn't see a difference in battery life. If you just want to always have a charged battery for emergencies then I highly suggest this. But don't purchase for the extended battery life. The one down side was the battery requires a different back. The one included didn't fit my phone but I had ordered another battery and it also came with a back so I just used it. Also the battery says it fits other phones by HTC also. If your connector is on the bottom right side or top left side it will not fit (Evo Slide).Super fast shipping and works great. Thank you I would order again in a heartbeat, very pleased and apts is passed around to others.Perfect make sure to charge battery 12 hours , it really lasts more then 8 hours when you do and I'm a always on my phone .WFCO WF9855 Deck Mount 55 Amps Converter Charger

The Coleman jumper cables are great good quality material. Five stars.I'm posting this review specifically to remind other potential buyers to review the "Cable Type Selection Guide" (which is featured in one of the product photos). Don't make a dumb mistake like me and buy 8-gauge cables for your full size pickup truck. I am giving these 8-gauge cables to my wife for her sedan and buying Coleman 4-gauge for my vehicle...For the price of this product, you can't go wrong if you need to jump start your car in a hurry or emergency. My car battery dies often and in the last 3 weeks we've had to jump it 4 times. This does the job. The cable is a little short so you just need to make sure the cars can be relatively close together.I ordered these for emergency purposes in my 3rd car. The cable is fine, but the clamps on each end are flimsy and I am not sure how well they will clamp to a side terminal battery, if at all. Since my Toyota used top terminals I decided to keep them and hope if I ever need a jump, they will also have top terminals available. Checked Walmart website after buying and they have similarly priced items, so consider looking at brick and mortar before purchasing these "name brand" cables. It is made by Coleman. They are a major cable manufacturer. It does the job too. I am happy with my selection and I do recommend it to others.

With that data cable, bought through Amazon as well, It charges perfectly in the car on my long trips between home and work. Arrived in quick time, amazingly low price, perfect deal all the way around. I even like the white, because, let's face it, all black electronics gets a little boring after awhile. 8*)I bought (4) of these directly from MonoPrice. They are rated at 1A(1000mA)@5V. The charger gets pretty warm close to hot when charging an iPhone 3GS. Eventually, three of mine have failed. The forth one is still in the package and it will stay there.

There are lots of poor reviews on this one, and the problem seems to be the same: The unit starts up once, then immediately dies.
Problem: The cigarette lighter adapter comes with a fast-blow fuse. My unit did the same thing, and I found that the fuse (located inside the plug itself) had blown as soon as I plugged a very low-draw radio into the inverter. Inverters have lots of capacitors that need to charge then the unit powers up, creating a momentary large load that a slow-blow fuse can absorb, while a fast-blow cannot.
A 400-Watt inverter is pretty large to run on a cigarette lighter plug in the first place, and should definitely be run directly from the battery or hard-wired if you plan on using anything with a significant draw.
In fact, the instructions say NOT to use the cigarette lighter if you plan on running anything more than 150W.
Solution: Replace the fast-blow fuse included with the inverter with a slow-blow OR a larger fuse (do NOT exceed the rating of your vehicle's outlet!). This is a $0.50 fix and my inverter now works flawlessly!
I'm guessing that the poor reviews are from those who use the lighter adapter and have this problem, while the positives are those who either hard-wire or connect directly to battery.
Now my inverter works great, doesn't play havoc with ANYTHING (unlike my modified sine-wave inverters), and the price was right. The built-in USB is a nice touch too.
Bottom Line: Great inverter for the price if you don't mind replacing a fuse or hard-wiring. As mentioned before, an inverter this size probably should be hard-wired anyway.

I see some very negative reviews of this 400 watt inverter, but my wife and I have been very pleased. We live in a 100% solar home and have found the unit great for running our computer, printer, and powered computer speakers all at the same time. I have even run my Pioneer surround sound, DVD player, and 100watt powered sub-woofer at the same time. This use has been during the day, but there was certainly no shortage of power from the unit whenever the input voltage has been sufficient. One thing I need to mention is that I replaced the cord with the cigar lighter end on it with my own 2 foot long, 10 gauge wire with a three prong plug on it that plugs into our 12vdc in house recepticles. When I first bought the unit I had issues with low voltage signal too, but I do not believe the supplied cigar plug makes good enough contact to conduct the needed voltage. If you have the low voltage issue, try another type of plug or direct wire it. It is not unusual for this unit to be on 6 to 10 hours a day in our home and operates flawlessly. Yes, the cooling fan kicks on and off, but that is what it is supposed to do. I have also used it to charge various battery operated items drills, NiCad chargers, and the like, once again no problems. The ONLY reason I did not give it a five star rating is due to the issue with the cord. When you consider that most cigar lighter sockets are designed to handle 15 amps DC before blowing the on-board fuse (that's with the vehicle running), its easy to see why only the lightest of loads can be run using the supplied plug. Anything large use battery clips, direct wire or hardwire it into your system. Bought the unit about six months ago, should have done the review sooner.Read Best Reviews of Wagan EL2201 Elite 400 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter Here

If you draw more than about 5-10W the fan comes on and it's pretty noisy. Otherwise my unit works fine (I am not using the cigarette lighter plug). My initial performance tests were promising. Unfortunately, the first time I tried to use the unit in a practical application, the little switch next to the AC power socket failed. The toggle just flopped back and forth loosely without moving the electrical contacts. I had plans to use the unit within the next day or two so I replaced the switch myself. After using the unit for 30 minutes or so to power a 60 watt drill battery charger, the unit became quite hot. This is not how a 400 watt device should behave! I allowed it to cool thoroughly and tried it again. This time I held the unit directly in front of a blowing air conditioner vent to guarantee no overheating. Within 10 minutes or so, the unit got hot anyway and started making a high pitched squealing noise. I disconnected it and it never worked again. Since I had previously (and foolishly) repaired it myself, I assumed the company would not honor the warranty and just declared it dead. Before giving the unit a proper burial, I did an autopsy on it. I happen to be an electronics manufacturing expert by trade and decided to see what I could discover. What I found was simply an appalling lack of workmanship and design for manufacture. If I had examined the internals immediately after receiving it, I would have returned it without ever trying it. My advice is to rule out this unit, however cost effective it might appear, and buy a quality unit from a name brand manufacturer instead.

I went and got this inverter at home depot (btw, I paid $75 there so it is cheaper on Amazon), hooked it onto one of our cars, plugged in a 50 foot extension cord and ran it inside our home then plugged that into a 6 plug power strip. We can now power our TV, 2 laptops, modem, router, a light (with a halogen bulb) and 2 cell phones (via the computers usb port). We could probably power more but only have 6 slots on the power strip.
No this is not a generator. I would not plug in a refrigerator, washer / dryer or anything like that but given the fact we had no power at all, this thing is amazing. We have a gas fireplace, gas hot water heater and gas stove range so we are warm, clean and can cook but now we can see without using candles and stream shows onto our tv for some entertainment.
I recommend this item! It helped us when we needed some help during a hard winter storm.

We were running a TV and a computer off of this, and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it could have handled more, but this is all we needed.I would definitely recommend this for a small to medium size tailgate where you a running a few items. It sure beats lugging around a huge generator and you don't have to break the bank.

Our power went out for 4 days recently. My wife reminded me we owned the inverter. I conneced it to the refrigerator for a couple of hours and then the freezer and the food survived just fine. I also had enough power to run a fan and a few lights. We tried a few other appliances like the iron (it was her 30th reunion weekend and she wanted to look her best)but was too much.Bottom line: Its as good as its gonna get for less than 40.00, as long as the wattages are realtively low your good to go. Just leave the car in the garage and run an a couple of extensions to what hurts the most.

My LCD TV buzzed like it was going explode plugged into this...My laptop power supply started charging, but within 30 seconds stopped and would not re-start
My line-interactive UPS would not accept power from it
The plugs on the front feel cheap and are difficult to actually plug into, when you do plug in you hear very worrisome sounding "POP"s and other electrical type noises... doesn't instill any confidence
It DID generate power, so I suppose if you're running a regular light bulb or something it would be fine... but if you think you'll be able to run a small modern TV, laptop or other electronic devices--look elsewhere.
I can see why it's discontinued on the B&D site (something I learned afterwards)... I'll be returning it.this one is to be used with a 12 volt battery to charge cell phones or other small equipment in case of a power failure. Have not had to use it yet. It is a Be Prepared item/
