BatteryMINDer Model 12117: 12 Volt 1.33 Amp (12V 1.33A) Charger/Maintainer/Desulfator

BatteryMINDer Model 12117: 12 Volt 1.33 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Desulfator
  • Full-time battery monitoring automatically tests battery every microsecond, supplying only the current needed to maintain battery at full charge
  • Maintain up to four 12 Volt standard, starting batteries (of similar type - in parallel). Amperage is divided evenly among connected batteries. (NOT recommended for deep cycle batteries)
  • Does not overcharge, regardless of time connected
  • High-frequency pulses safely remove sulphate from battery's plates that prevent the batteries from holding a full charge
  • Adding water references Wet typed batteries. If the water level isn't sufficiently maintained, charging the battery runs the risk of overheating and cooking the battery. The charger applies current to the battery and this can cause the water to boil and evaporate.

...if you own deep cycle batteries. I bought one of these in 2001 as an experiment to desulphate eight 6 volt 225 amp hour deep cycle batteries. The RV park where we were staying used them in their golf carts. They were going to throw 6 Trojan 225 ah batteries in the dumpster. These batteries were in bad shape as evidenced by the constant 6 amps being drawn after being hooked up to their "super" charger for many hours. Essentially, these batteries were so sulphated that they would not accept any more charge. With many chargers the charge current will drop to "0" as battery resistance increases when fully charged.

I mentioned tossing the batteries in the dumpster might be illegal. If they let me have them to do some tests and possibly recover them, I would dispose of them properly if I had no luck. I had just installed a solar panel system with a 2500 watt inverter on my 5th wheel and had only 1 pair of golf cart batteries that was already at least 2 years old. I needed more reserve battery power and calculated that I would need at least 6 of these batteries for the inverter to be of any real use to me. When using batteries in this manner, it is best to use batteries that are in similar condition and ideally from the same lot. Six new batteries were going to cost about $520 with tax.

I got them back to my rig and baselined the charge they would accept on my 10 amp charger. Indeed, they were not accepting any more charge. I paired these old batteries in series to get four 12 volt configurations and spent the next 4 weeks (1 week per pair) on this desulphator. I continued this process until my charger's ammeter would go to zero when the batteries were full, an indication that they were now in good shape. Ultimately, 2 of the batteries would prove to be unrecoverable, but the other 4 plus the 2 I already owned eventually recovered about 90% of their original amp hour capacity based on some standard tests I ran.

My inverter, combined with these recovered batteries, would run my 15,000 BTU air conditioner for nearly an hour, more than enough time to cool our 5th wheel while preparing and consuming lunch in 106 temps in Ca. deserts. The batteries would be nearly fully recharged by the solar panels and charge line from the tow vehicle by the time we reached our destination for the evening. With loving maintenance and care, they had lasted another 5 years providing countless hours of dry camping service! Finally, in 2006, I replaced them with new ones before an extended camping trip.

This charger/desulphator requires 115 vac and a minimum of 11 volts in the battery before you connect to it. So, if your battery is dead, be sure to bring it up the 11 volt minimum before hooking the unit up or it could overheat and be ruined. Also, most of the cheaper old style battery chargers don't have any voltage regulation. Consequently, the voltage these chargers supply to a fully charged battery can exceed well over 14 volts and will eventually "cook" the electrolyte out if you leave them hooked up. They can also overheat the battery, permanently damaging the thinner plate structure of automotive (starting batteries). The VDC model I bought in 2001 can be left on to maintain the charge in lead acid batteries. Check your operator instructions to be sure.

Shortly after recovering these batteries, I bought another desulphator from an Arizona solar supplier capable of desulphating a 1600 a/h battery bank that operates only off of the battery bank. This constant desulphating process along with proper battery maintenance is probably what helped sustain these batteries for an additonal 5 years. In the absence of a desulphator, deep cycle batteries should be "equalized". The interval depends on usage. I was doing it monthly. The equalization process requires a special charger and can be hard on batteries. Desulphation performs a similar function without the harshness of equalization. Desulphation plus judicial use of equalization can extract maximum life out of your deep cycle batteries. I wouldn't be without either one of these desulphators or a 3 or 4 stage battery charger.

A final note: Never let your batteries sit in a discharged condition. As a battery discharges, the sulphate that forms will be easier to return to solution whn prmptly recharged. If you let it sit, the sulphate can harden and be nearly impossible to return to solution.

Excellent Product; does what it's advertised to do. Comes with lugs/rings and alligator(battery) clamps and a long cord. Works like a cell phone charger, just connect it & plug it in. WILL NOT WORK ON A COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY!! (If the battery is dead, use your bulk charger to boost it for a couple of hours and then connect the maintainer.) Once the maintainer reaches full charge, it goes into conditioner mode (green flashing light)which is desulphating the battery, exentending its life. Worth the $$$.

This is something that any guy with a garage and a car should have...especially if you have more than one car. I was more than impressed with this little desulphator/charger's ability to revive a battery that would have otherwise been junked. I have an e34M5 that is notorious for slowly killing batteries. After the battery was dead for over a month, I charged with my "big" battery charger as this cannot help batteries that are on the brink of death without being charged with a larger charger, then I put this on it for two weeks and it was nothing short of a miracle.

If you have a car that sits for long periods, you should get one of these little fellas.

I purchased the Battery Minder Plus to restore my boat battery. I am an electronics engineer and had researched what happens to a lead acid battery that causes it to loose its capacity. Though there are other causes, the most common one is sulphation, a coating that forms on the lead plates that is non-conductive reducing their ability to conduct electricity. My battery was so bad that even after many hours of charging on my charger's highest setting, it couldn't hold enough charge to operate the radio, much less engage the starter. I ordered the Battery Minder Plus (at roughly half the price of a new battery). It arrived this past Monday evening. Five days ago. Before I could begin charging, I had to force the Battery Minder into "Maintenance Mode" to start de-sulphating it. Basically zapping the battery with pulses of power that forces the sulphate to disolve. Eventually the battery began to take and hold a charge. This morning I was able to easily start the boat with only the battery. I'm very impressed. Very happy with the product. The manual that comes with it is a bit disorganized and quite redundant but most of the information you need is in there.

Keeps battery charged & conditioned, ready to go. Using it on snowmobile & utility tractor. Just what I was looking for. Appears to be sturdy with strong clips. Easy to use, all automatic.

Honeywell HW7500E 9375 Watt 15 HP 420cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start

Honeywell HW7500E 9375 Watt 15 HP 420cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric StartAmazon has this generator for the lowest price on the internet and much better than locally (once factoring in free shipping which normally costs $170 and tax free which is generally $70 or 7% in Indiana).

Shipping is awesome although it was out of stock for a while. ABF shipping is great. Item arrived intact via smaller truck after 1 week. ABF called my cell phone and arrange for convenient delivery time (signature required). Driver called day of delivery for 30 min. warning that item is coming. Driver hand-trucked 278# generator which is in original Honeywell box without any crating down a 100 foot long driveway into my garage for my wife. This is not the norm as free shipping generally means curb-side drop off and it's up to me to dolly this baby into my garage. My wife gave the driver a nice tip and I called him personally to thank him.

I ended up cutting the box to get the generator out due to heavy weight. I used a dolly padded with a thick towel to lift generator on its side to put on the wheel kit and 2 back legs with enclosed nuts/bolts (no washer needed or included due to specially designed bolts and nuts with washer flare). The tires are solid rubber so nothing to inflate or to go flat (nicely design), and are held on the shaft via washers and cotter pins. The handles fold nicely and bolted on with same type of nuts/bolts. Nuts and bolts are metric so get out you metric wrenches or sockets.

Honeywell HW7500E generator is a beauty. Red, metal fuel tank holds 6.5 gallons with fuel gage and metal gas cap. Black accents and red engine are easy on the eyes. I used Stabil fuel stabilizer from Walmart (1 oz per 2.5 gallons) to allow storage of gas in the tank so it's ready to go with less gunk build up and easier start later. Generator shipped without oil. I did not use the enclosed free 1 liter of 10W30 oil or free tiny funnel, and used instead full synthetic 10W30 oil (5 liter jug) with long neck funnel from Walmart. I recommend pouring the oil into a clean disposable plastic cup and then using this cup to pour the oil into the funnel to reduce drips, waste, and mess. It took a full quart of oil.

I installed a Reliance 30216BRK manual transfer switch kit (bought on Epay for $_1_8_0 shipped--more at Lowes) and used the included 20 foot 14-30 cable from the 30216BRK kit to hook up the generator to the switch (generator is placed outside the garage of course to avoid carbon monox. posoining) when generator is needed. This switch and generator provide power to 50 gallon electric hot water heater (3000 watts), 2 fridges (1600 watts), 2 freezers (1600 watts), 6 ceiling spot lights, and 2 ceiling fans to family room. Obviously, the water heater will be switched on and off just for showers (once existing water in the tank cools) to reduce the load otherwise. The generator does have an idle control, stutters now and then when the water heater kicks on, and does not get any louder than a 20" push gas lawn mower. I can hear the generator barely in the house at night but not during the day. Generator is 10 feet from the house's brick wall, outside the garage door which is closed on top of the generator cable.

Starting is easy with plastic cheat sheet numbering 1 through 7 steps with electric start. 12v/14Ah sealed lead, tractor type battery started the generator with first push of the switch. This battery can be charged with a "smart" car battery charger if set to 2A mode for 6-8 hours. It can be replaced at Walmart or Lowes in the lawn tractor section. Stopping the generator is as easy as 1) unplug, 2) let run 3 more minutes, 3) push the button off, and 4) turn the fuel switch to off (also clearly stated, step by step, on the attached plastic poster).

Overall, this is an excellent generator for the price of $999.99 due to 1) 3 year warranty (1 year parts and labor, other 2 years parts only), 2) Honeywell brand (not the cheap Chinese junk like Powermax, Pro-Grade, Buffalo Tools, Blue Max, Chicago Tools, Eastern Tools, and numerous other aliases--best clue is the chincy 1 year warranty with them sending you the parts and you do the repair yourself or locally at any lawn mower/motor repair shop whose cost may or may not be covered by them), 3) 7500W continuous, 9375W peak watts (Chinese generators have exaggerated wattage ratings so beware), 4) included free accesories (25 foot L14-30 cable to 4 outlets which costs around $60-100 on Epay and even more locally), 1 quart of oil, cheapy funnel, 12v battery, step by step start/stop cheat sheet, toll-free help line with fast pickup by real Americans, and flat-free wheel kit.

I do wish that the fuel tank can be 10 gallons instead of 6.5 gallons, included funnel has a longer neck, easier access to fill oil, less noise is always a plus, included cable is standard 14-30 male to 14-30 female to allow easier hookup to transfer switches--it already has 4 outlets on the generator so why do we need 4 more on the generator cable?, outlet covers to keep them dry in the rain (I plugged them up with baby-proofing outlet covers at Walmart), and actual bumper to bumper 3 year warranty.

Despite these mentioned weaknesses, this generator is still a great buy at Amazon for this price.

UPDATED! I've now owned and used this generator for four years and one month. Please see my update immediately following the original review!

---Original review:

First off, let me say that I purchased this generator on Dec. 22, 2008, and it arrived on Jan. 6, 2009 (not bad, considering that when I purchased it, I was told it wouldn't even ship until the end of January 2009!). Plus, Amazon shipped it to my doorstep FOR FREE, a savings of $166.00.

Now, let's get down to the generator itself. It arrived in perfect condition, very well packaged inside its cardboard box. I carefully read the instruction manual FIRST, before doing anything else, just to familiarize myself with the generator, the accessories, and the assembly instructions. I then began installing the feet and the wheels, a process that took a couple hours, only because I was trying to be extra careful and to fully inspect the generator for any apparent damage as I went (hey, it is a $1,000 investment!). The only problem worth mentioning here is that only two wheel washers were included, but the manual says four. However, an extra set of washers would've made it impossible to install the cotter pins, so in the long run, it was OK.

Next I was ready to add the engine oil. As was previously suggested by another buyer of this generator, I added full-synthetic 10W30 oil instead of the oil that came with it (the sticker on the included oil, by the way, states that it is only for use above 32 degrees F, and it's colder than that right now here in Maine!) As everyone else has pointed out, the included funnel is worthless; however, I picked up a GREAT long-neck funnel at Wal-Mart for a mere 97 cents. Once I added the oil, I went to attach the battery. Here's where I had my second minor problem. The instruction manual said the negative battery lead would be attached to the alternator for shipping, but it wasn't attached to anything; it was carefully wrapped in plastic and left free-floating. Not a problem at all.

Speaking of the battery, while I was attaching it, I also attached the leads for an automatic battery charger/tender. Once I finished this step, I plugged the charger in, and was told that the battery was already fully charged! This was a real plus, as I didn't have to wait to test the electric-start feature of generator. I put in a couple gallons of stabilized gas, double-checked the oil level, turned on the fuel valve and the choke (the choke is on when the lever is to the LEFT -it's not clearly marked on the generator itself), and hit the start button. It started up IMMEDIATELY! I gradually moved the choke to the off position and gave the generator a few minutes to warm up. Then I pulled out my trusty multimeter to see what kind of juice I was getting. The 120V outlets were providing exactly 123V, and the 240V outlet was providing exactly 246V. Very stable readings, too! No major fluctuations at all!

Next it was time to plug the generator into my transfer switch. I did so, flipped the switch, and the next thing I knew, it was like NOTHING had happened. In other words, the voltage being fed into the house by the generator was so good, so stable, that everything in the house operated just like I was on utility power. I didn't try running everything at once, of course -it's only a 7500W generator, not a 15000W or more -but everything that I did run operated perfectly. My wife did a load of laundry in the front-loader washing machine, we turned on lots of lights, a space heater, the fridge, ran lots of hot water so the furnace would kick in to provide more, watched a DVD on our big-screen TV, surfed the Internet on our desktop PC, etc. We ran this full test of the generator for one hour! When we had multiple things running, I conducted another test with my multimeter. I'm happy to report that the house outlets were providing 122.5 to 122.9V, even with a decent load on the generator!

I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this item. The minor little issues I had are really nothing, when you get right down to it. What really matters is whether a generator will start reliably and provide good-quality electricity, and this baby DOES! If you want a generator to help you weather a shortor long-term power outage, I don't think you could go wrong buying this Honeywell. It's a real HONEY! And don't forget, it's got a three-year warranty, longer than every other generator I looked at. And you can't beat the price, considering the size of this machine!

--------

UPDATE: I've now owned this generator for four years and one month (It's now February 2013). I can't believe it's been that long! Anyway, this generator has been the steady workhorse that I hoped it would be! I keep a detailed usage log, so I can tell you with complete accuracy that I have used this generator during eight different power outages, ranging in length from one hour to eight hours, with several test runs throughout the four years, and this generator has never failed, never hesitated, never let me down! Even the original battery is still in perfect condition, most likely because I keep it on a trickle charger. The ONLY bad thing that I can say about the generator after all this time is that a couple quarter-sized areas of paint flaked off the cover where the manual pull rope comes out, but it still otherwise looks and acts as it did when I received it. I know Honeywell has updated this generator (new design, apparently a lot heavier, etc.), so this review may be outdated. However, if you are looking for a new generator and can't find my particular model any longer, you'd probably be safe trying the company's newest model.

Did a fair amount of research on brands but eventually was won over by the price point and a somewhat reputable brand name. The shipment was at exactly nine days after ordering, and the local delivery was within the time frame stated, although near the tail end of the window so no real reason to complain. The driver off-loaded the boxed unit with a dolly and placed it within my garage.

There it sat for a couple of weeks until bad weather was predicted, so I finally took it out of the box and began putting it together. That's when the little nitpicky stuff began to surface. Wheel kit was missing a set of washers, so the wheels won't roll very smoothly. Then went to install the handles and found that one handle did not have a hole drilled for the bolt. Ended up drilling it myself not a real big deal but a pain nonetheless. Tried to add oil with the funnel provided but it was worthless, so as others had previously suggested the next day I went out and bought a long-necked funnel (along with a male to female L14-30 cord to be able to connect the generator to my manual transfer switch. That night a storm came in and of course we lost power, so I was scrambling in the dark to fill the oil (with the new funnel) and then began adding fuel. Immediately there was a leak at the fuel shut-off switch. Ran it anyway (not very smart I know)and it started right away and powered up what we needed.

The next day attempted to fix the leak but it appears to be a problem with the gasket or O-ring within the valve housing. Tried to get a replacement part but was told I had to take it in to an authorized dealer for it to be ordered and fixed under warranty. They wouldn't send a replacement part, so now I have to load the 300lb unit into my car and travel 40mi one-way to drop it off so they can order the replacement part and wait 1 1.5 wks before I can again drive down to pick it up.

For the 2hrs I did use the generator it seemed to work ok, its just now that I'm concerned about the long-term and whether or not there are other issues that will surface. Especially since the distance to an authorized dealer is excessive. Check this out if you're considering purchasing, I didn't think of it.

Don't expect this generator to be there when you need it. It is cheaply made out of inferior materials. When I needed mine, I found the float valve in the carburetor was frozen closed due to rust from the steel fittings in the float bowl. The screws holding the solenoid on the bottom of the float are made of soft metal and the cross points stripped out on both of them so they had to be removed with vice grips. When I finally got the float valve unstuck, the rust cleaned out, and the generator running, I found there was only 43 volts out of each leg in the 240 volt socket. I have owned the generator just over 6 months, and have not used it since the initial test run and storage. Typical Honeywell Chinese made junk. Winter update: The starter motor doesn't have enough torque to start the engine in cold conditions. It won't pull it past the compression stroke even using synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. The recoil starter is usless as it is not humanly possible to pull it hard enough to start the engine. The only way I got it to start was to pull the engine past the compression stroke, and sometimes the starter motor will develop enough momentum to crank the engine. I wish there was a way to rate this product with negative stars!

I got the unit today unloaded it and put it together no problems. The unit just won't start. I called the number provided to ask if someone could walk me thru the initial start steps just to be sure I didn't miss anything. I waited several minutes and finally got a rep. I explained my problem and was told you have to take it to a dealer. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and was told they don't have any techs. She took my zip code and told me the closest dealer is 30 miles away. Now I am faced with getting this 200lb unit in the car drive 1/2 hour each way to drop off and by the way the dealer can't tell me how long it will be before it is repaired. BOTTOM LINE DON'T BUY A HONEYWELL

Powerex A/C Battery Charger/Conditioner - 4 Pack

Powerex A/C Battery Charger/Conditioner - 4 PackWhen I purchased my first digital camera 3 years ago, I never thought it could go through batteries as quickly as it did so I never thought about buying rechargables. Besides, my rechargable history had not been a good one. Very expensive batteries, charger only worked when it wanted to work.

I did quite a bit of research when I purchased my newest digital camera and batteries 6 months ago. The PowerEX batteries and chargers were reviewed quite highly and tested to be long lasting. The price was decent and much lower than I had paid 3 years ago for other rechargables. I figured that I didn't have too much to lose.

Well, six months later I am getting ready to buy more batteries for other items in the house. There were times that I loaded my fully charged batteries in my camera and took over 1000 flash pictures and still had a great charge on the batteries. They hold their charge for weeks and can be charged quickly if needed.

My son uses these in his game cube wireless controlers and gets days worth of playing time from them before needing a charge.

These are inexpensive, ship very quickly, and are a deal for twice the price. I can't imagine having to lug around regular batteries in my camera case ever again. And with PowerEX batteries, I won't have to.

This thing has ruined three sets of rechargeable batteries. The batteries become very hot. Sometimes it charges them and sometimes it refuses to charge the batteries. I have to believe that there are better products on the market than this one.

I had to purchase this battery charger because I had lost my previous charger which was amazing. But, this one was really really really poor. I have been using these batteries with my Canon Powershot S2IS camera. The charge does not last for a few hours not even 50 shots, whereas the previous one I had used to last for a week about 400 shots! The charger turns green from red within an hour.

I did get the product well in time. I am not sure if this is something related to Powerex, or the shipping company. Other batteries do last long though!

These walkie talkies described in one word are great. They are completely ideal for business, hobbies, or even for children. The walkie talkies are very clear, loud and easy to use. The flashlight is a good light for small areas. Not ideal for backyard. Maybe a closet. The only thing about the walkie talkies that is a con is that when you hold the talk button, if you do not wait about 2 seconds you will get cutoff on the other handheld and they will not hear your complete transmition. Overall this product is amazing!

I have had these for two month now and use them on a daily basis. I am very happy with the battery life, clarity and especially the ease of use. I really like the audible notification of the currently selected channel. One dissapointment that I had is that I purchased a midland earpiece that has a very similar headset connector but found that it did not work with these walkie talkies.

Our 11 year-old grandson wanted walkie talkies for Xmas, and since his dad takes him out in the woods for camping and general roaming around, they would also be very useful for keeping in touch when out of sight. I researched various models available on Amazon, and while my son wanted something with some color on it (in case it gets dropped in the woods and he has to search for it), I thought these had the best combination of price and performance. BTW, I ordered them on Friday before Xmas, and they showed up (with std shipping, no less) on Monday morning, Xmas Eve -can't beat that! My son and grandson went into full testing mode immediately after unwrapping these on Xmas morning, and they haven't stopped all week. They tell me that the sound clarity is great, the range seems to be good (haven't tested to find the max range yet, but they will), and the feel of the case and controls is just right for them. As for color, my wife decided that $1 worth of red reflective tape from a local bargain store would do just fine when wrapped around the lower part of the case. Great product, extremely fast shipping service by this seller and the USPS.

  • 25 Year performance warranty. Made in USA
  • Flexible Light Weight & Durable, Best Resistance to wind uplift, No roof penetration
  • Includes 68 watt Flexible Solar Panel, Morningstar Charge Controller and 30' MC Cable
  • Better performance then Silicon Solar Panels in Hot climate & partial shades

I'm a system engineer and normally can figure out how to configure and install electronic and electrical.

this kit come with no instruction as how to install it. The single 30' MC cable has a female and a male connector one at each end. The charge controller is a screw on cable positions and is clear as to where the solar positive and negative cables should be hooked up and where the battery cables (+/-) should be connected. The issue is that the MC cable does not connect to the controller. There was no answer on the 800 number provided and no way to leave any voicemail.

So am I supposed to cut the 30' cable in half and connect the male and female connectors to the solar panels male/female connectors? Without instructions from the seller I'm not going to do that.

Also what gauge wires do I need to connect the controller to the batteries?

So the kit is not "Easy to Install" without any installation information.

I would not recomend This product.

This solar kit holds the second battery charged in my motorhome at 13.8 V when under the direct sunlight.

Although not bring installation instructions, this is easily done, but since the company's Web site can download the basic installation information.

A couple of questions I had when installing it (as if you cut the cable to connect the controller or to lack a complement to prevent the return of power to the solar panel to enter the vehicle's alternator operation) request information about them via e-mail to the company and were clarified by them very well and diligently.

For these reasons, from Caracas-Venezuela, I strongly recommend this product and the company behind it.

The workmanship and quality seem good on these adapters, they come with sufficiently long cables that they're easy to attach and position pretty much where ever you'd like. The actual USB plug has a rubber cover that protects it and gives it it's weatherproof (not waterpoof) rating. I was able to mount it under my dash, so I doubt it will ever be an issue, but it is something to consider when installing it on a motorcycle. I also installed it so it was downward facing, so if water was to drip on it, and the cover wasn't on it, that it wouldn't go into the actual USB plug, but just on the outer housing.

All and all a good price and well made, simple to install and does exactly what I want.

Great concept, however don't like that the LED indicator stays on all the time, probably if I found a way to connect to the ignition power supply so it cuts power to this thing when key is not in the ON position I'd be fine, but don't want to cut wires on front of bike.

If you use a trickle charger, I'm sure the small LED will not be an issue but could be over long amounts of time.

Nothing fancy here. A fairly basic USB mount that I used on a 2012 Triumph Bonneville. Long wires, so can be mounted just about anywhere. I was a little concerned about the main body, as it has a small red LED light on it. I wired the unit to a constant power source, not a keyed source. But it has sat for several weeks without a trickle charger, and still fired up without problems. So the draw is to low to drain the battery. Normally I keep it on a trickle charger anyway. You also might want to put a piece of tape over the LED, or position in correctly. When first installing it, the LED shown down under the seat and was obvious at night. So I had to reposition it so as not to look odd. But otherwise, it powers my iphone and Sena SMH10 Bluetooth well.

Installed on a 2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Silverado. Leads were very long (actually had to cut them down quite a bit). I used a plug that fits into the pigtails from my battery tender (didn't have time to find a good weatherproof switch yet). I installed it such that the voltage regulator is below the handlebar risers (so I can see the power LED when on the bike as a reminder to unplug it when the bike is off!).

Used it to power my cell phone to and from DC for Rolling Thunder and it worked great (used the phone to listen to music and to use it as a GPS). Nice side-effect of doing that was to allow my wife and daughter to track my progress via Google Latitude as the phone was able to update my position more frequently versus when on battery power.

Only drawback I ran into was the weatherproof fuse holders at Pep Boys are a lower gauge wire so finding a waterproof/heat shrink butt connector that worked was difficult. Although, given how much wire I had to trim meant I didn't have to cut it out and relocate it...

All in all, well worth the $20 I spent for it.

Don't bother buying this. Was in a hurry ordered it and then spent hours trying to get it to work. In the end I threw it in the garbage. It wasn't even worth spending the time and money to replace.

ICP Solar 22001 BattPak Battery Charger

ICP Solar 22001 BattPak Battery ChargerI thought that this is a solar battery charger, but no... You have to purchase a different component before you can charge batteries with sunlight. I found that to be quite misleading.

It's true, this doesn't have any inherent solar panel you can buy all manner of different ones (one that clips nicely to the back (low power) or a big folding panel that gives 25W you choose based on what you need.

The unit itself is very well made is an excellent 10xAA trickle charger and has a 12V cigar lighter socket for 12V output as well (no messing with all those funny tips from other manufacturers). e.g. plug in your iphone/ipod/cellphone 12V cable and your off.

The only thing really missing with this unit nowadays is a USB socket, but again, easy to get a 12V male to USB adapter.

Best thing is that you can plug into the 12V charging socket in a vehicle and charge while driving (something that is often available in 'wilderness areas' where no AC is available), you can use AC to pre-load the cells before you head out or trickle them, and then solar is available when all else fails.

It also feels incredibly sturdy (like the way that old Motorola phones used to) and feels as though it would survive a drop.

Careful if you fly with this though...with 10 AAs in, it has an x-ray profile that looks remarkably like the magazine for an assault rifle...found that out the hard way!!

Excellent component in a AA based backup power setup...

This is a pretty large "button" or coin style battery for certain electronic gadgets. I trust the name Sony and so I won't worry about this battery leaking. Also, lithium is among the best batteries for long shelf life and for packing a lot of energy. Even with shipping it's cheaper than at the local store and I didn't have to go looking all over the place to find it.

Schumacher SE-1-12S Fully Automatic Onboard Battery Charger - 1.5 Amps

Schumacher SE-1-12S Fully Automatic Onboard Battery Charger - 1.5 Amps
  • 1.5-amp charger
  • Has reverse polarity protection
  • Molded with plastic weather proof case
  • Plugs into an electrical wall outlet
  • Can install next to the battery on automobiles, boats, tractors, golf carts, and other equipment

I am fortunate enough to maintain two houses one in the mid-West for the summer and a second one in the Palm Springs area for the winter. Rather than drive 1500 miles each way I have a couple of cars in each location so each set will sit idle for six months of the year which means I usually have two dead batteries when I arrive for the season. I tried a cheaper brand of trickle charger in the desert last year and it worked but I was afraid that if it burned out I would still return to dead batteries. I really like the quality of the Schumacher products having two of their multifunction battery chargers that have worked well for over 10 years. When I saw that they offered high quality trickle chargers I bought two of them to make the switch to worry free charging. The chargers are well built and heavy for their size and the build quality is typical Schumacher. The chargers are intended to be installed in the engine compartment with battery connections that are permanently connected to the charger and for power a short plug comes out of the side of the unit and is easily connected to a grounded extension cord. I really didn't want to install these under the hood even though they supply the mounting brackets and screws required but I did like the idea of the permanent connection to the battery as opposed to a clamp which could fall off in the middle of the season and leave me with a dead battery. Remembering how the chargers connected in the Power Wheels toys my sons had several years ago, I was able to find polarity keyed plug connectors in the trailer wiring section of the local auto parts store and now have a short pigtail permanently connected to the battery and the ability to plug and unplug it into the charger when I want. Now I have the best of all worlds, the security of a solid connection to the battery and the flexibility of being able to plug and unplug the charger with ease. I like this a lot.

I installed this in one of my SUV's that is not driven for weeks at a time.

The Schumacher unit keeps a perfect charge and does not overheat or dry out the battery. The clock, radio, and GPS settings are all preserved and the charger does not seem to draw much power when the battery is charged. I am very satisfied with the operation of the unit.

The installation was a breeze with the included hardware and the instructions were clear and easy.

I do have two small complaints, however:

(1) The battery lugs were way too big for my vehicle and all other cars that I checked.

(2) The AC plug is too short to run anywhere. I wanted the plug to reach to just outside the vehicle's grill, so that the unit could be plugged in without opening the hood. I had to install an extra extension cord for that purpose.

Good product. 4 stars b/c the manual is misleading. There is a table that tells you what the lights mean, but it is hard to understand. I'll translate: If top light is green and bottom if off, the battery is charging. If the top light is green and the bottom light is red, you battery is charged. If the top light is off, then the unit isn't getting power from the wall. Funny how this crucial info is so messed up in the instructions. Happy charging!

I had a problem. A very bad car accident left me partially disabled. So these days I do very little driving. Just getting to and from the store and that's about it.

The problem I had is that I seldom drove long enough or far enough to fully charge my car battery, and on more than one occasion I'd get in it to go somewhere and the battery would be dead.

I've used a number of trickle chargers in the past. But there's the problem of digging them out and unhooking them when the battery is ready.

This charger, however, has been perfect for me and my situation. It's mounted permanently under the hood so I always know where it is. It charges the battery fully then shuts itself off. I can leave it plugged in for weeks and it shuts itself off automatically. When I'm ready to use the car, I unplug it and go. When I park the car in the garage for what always turns out to be extended periods, I plug it in and on my next trip the battery has a full charge. My days of getting into the car only to discover the battery died are over.

If your situation is similar, or if you own a vehicle that only gets occasional use, like a truck for errands or an RV, this could be the thing for you.

Works great to keep your battery topped off on cold winter nights, and for days of long storage. Instead of dragging out your conventional charger and cables, then putting everything away when finished! Just mount this small unit under your hood, plug in a small AC extension cord, and close the hood. (not affecting alarm operation). It can charge a dead battery (not recommended) but it can take 24 to 36 hours.

Portable Emergency AA Battery Charger Extender for the T-Mobile G2 - with Gomadic Brand TipExchange

Portable Emergency AA Battery Charger Extender for the T-Mobile G2 - with Gomadic Brand TipExchange Technology
  • Integrated circuitry regulates output voltage specific to the T-Mobile G2. Advanced logic maximizes overall charger efficiency.
  • Built using the unique Gomadic TipExchange Technology that protects your investment by providing the ability to upgrade charging ports by simply swapping physical connectors.
  • Specification: Input Voltage (4 X AA Batteries), Cable length (6 inches), Dimensions (5.0 X 1.5 X 0.75 inches), Circuit Design (T-Mobile G2 specific), TipExchange enabled (Yes)
  • This Gomadic Battery Pack is uniquely designed to work with both standard (e.g. alkaline) and/or rechargeable AA batteries.
  • Easy to operate. Simply insert batteries, toggle on/off switch and your T-Mobile G2 will start to charge.

I have only had a need to use this once since purchasing but it did seem to work.

I highly recommend using lithium batteries with this because they are more powerful and will not leak like alkalines. A backup battery pack like this will probably sit unused for months until needed in an emergency. Alkalines will leak if left unused for long periods. Lithiums will not!

Good:

-Small

-Charges Ipod with 2 AA batteries

-You can buy other tips to charge other items or new ipods when they come out

-my understanding is that you can get wall and car chargers that work with the same variety of tips

Bad:

-seems like the plug that plugs into the tip could break easily. It hasn't broken, but I feel like I have to be very careful with it. I lay it carefully on a flat service and don't move it when I'm using it to charge. I don't put it in my pocket. I don't store it with the tip attached. I have to keep the tip and device in a ziplock bag since I'd lose the tip. Iit just makes it awkward.

I like it, but it would be amazing if there was a cover that was big enough to cover the end with the tip attached. The shape of a deoderant cover would work great since this has that oval shape. If there was something like that included, it would be a definate buy. It's still a definate buy if you need something for camping or whatever.

Buy iGo PowerXtender Emergency Charger Pack for iPod/iPhone Now

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand it allows you to charge devices with 2 AA batteries. On the other hand it is very ridged and feels like it could break at any moment. If they would have included a short cord on the end rather than the hard plastic tip that the "tips" go on this would be MUCH better. Look at the pictures and realize that the tip plugs into the unit and the phone, ipod, etc plugs into the tip. Basically you have to set your device down while this is charging it because otherwise it feels clunky. It does do what I needed it to do though...now I wish the extra tips weren't so overpriced.

Instapark® NEW All Black 30W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 30 watt

Instapark® NEW All Black 30W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 30 wattI searched around for a compact form solar panel with a decent watt output for my application and this works great!

This isn't too much larger than the 5 watt harbor freight amorphous panel, but this instapark panel packs 6 times more power and at a good price. Using this with a Sunforce 7amp charge controller charges my 12v, sla, 20ah battery fast. Panel feels solid and it's weight reflects that. I would have liked to see better mounting options on the back of the panel, the aluminum frame has only two sides that are wide with a couple of predrilled holes. This of course requires user intervention to figure out how to attach mounting brackets. I recommend going with some aluminum 1" square bars from home depot to use as your crossmembers to mount to the back panel as a start. Stainless steel screws are a must for this type of project.

This is a no brainer.

Some of the RV parks we go to are remote and you have to be self contained.

That means you need to generate your own power too.

This product allows us to keep the 2 12 volt batteries charged at all times and use them as needed without hooking up a generator or plugging the truck in to run the batteries off the truck's system.

I also purchased an inexpensive charging/maintenence system from Amazon for about $20 that works well.

We sit the solar panel next to our RV or truck during daylight hours and let it do the work "naturally".

I bought two of these panels for my 1985 VW Westfalia Camper, enough to power my laptop computer charger, as part of an overall battery charging setup. They are working well for that application. For less power-hungry applications, I just set up one of the panels. When not in use, I keep the two together in one of the shipping boxes, with a sheet of cardboard separating them, strapped behind the passenger seat. This gives me 60 watts of power with almost no loss of storage space.

From the pictures, I thought that black panels would be ugly, but they are actually quite attractive. They are also remarkably light I can pick them up and position them one-handed.

As others have mentioned, the wire that comes with the panel looks a little shabby. I was able to easily fix this, however. I pushed the wire into the junction box on the back of the panel so that the insulating sheath was inside the junction box (instead of outside), and clamped down the insulating sheath with the screw bracket inside. Then I soldered my favorite power connector onto the other end, with creative use of shrink tubing so that it merged in nicely with the insulating sheath. Now the cable is solid, working well, and looking good.

I would definitely recommend these panels because they are the perfect weight and size for easy handling and storage. To increase power, buy multiples.

Want Instapark® NEW All Black 30W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 30 watt Discount?

Came packed nicely in a sturdy shipping container but as can be expected at this price it could have been tidier and cleaner especially the smudges of some kind of white compound which did clean off with alcohol and a soft cloth plus the cell interconnects had several non-shorting (but close) solder splashes. Having said that from my limited testing it meets specs ok. Output falls off as it heats so if you intend to use this on an RV roof make sure it'll be big enough for your needs knowing that on a hot sunny day you might have 10% or so less than the rated 30 watts.

Based on other comments I chose to not use the Instapark controller but instead opted for a Genasun GV-5 5A 12V MPPT controller which while not cheap is far superior to the cheap Chinese controllers out there. My application is critical and requires low RF interference and high reliability so I used the savings from this panel for superior controller technology using quality components. My setup has this panel, the controller and a Power-Sonic PS-1290 12 Volt 9 Amp Hour Absorbent Glass Mat battery for 12 volt service and for small occasional AC loads I have a Tripp Lite PV150 Inverter. Everything except the Genasun controller is available on Amazon at the usual excellent prices.

The setup is working well so far but I haven't had much testing time and I may have to add another battery if the Inverter is used much.

Nice price for a decent panel.

Wagan EL2537-5 Twin USB and 12-Volt DC Cup Holder Power Adapter

Wagan EL2537-5 Twin USB and 12-Volt DC Cup Holder Power Adapter
  • 2 USB ports compatible with Kindle, iPad and other tablet computers (5V 2A total)
  • 2 DC outlets
  • Simply plug into your vehicle's 12V outlet and plug in your electronics
  • Battery level indicator lights
  • Fits most cup holders in vehicles

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)The Wagan Twin USB/DC Cup Holder Adapter is a very good value. Considering that I paid the same price for a single USB car lighter adapter, this is a great value. It's conveniently shaped like a cup-holder, with the added benefits of 2 included DC adapters and 2 USB adapters. So far all 4 adapters work perfectly.

This adapter definitely sits lower in my cupholder than what I was expecting. It looks taller in the product picture, but expect it to be just above flush with your cup-holder. If your car has two different sized cupholders, one larger than the other, this unit is designed to fit in the smaller standard size. For me that is the cupholder further from the control panel and closer to my center arm-rest.

The unit has four LED indicator lights so you can judge how many devices can be charged with it. This "Battery Level Indicator" feature is a nice extra, with "HIGH," "MID," "12V" and "LOW" indicators.

The product package indicates this unit works with standard 12V and 24VDC accessories. Apparently there's a fuse inside the unit in the event you over-use it, though I haven't yet had the fuze go on me.

CONSIDERATIONS

There are a few shortcomings to the product, all of which I would consider minor. First of all, the lighter cable is relatively short. That's ok if you are plugging it into the DC outlet on your control panel. Many newer cars also have DC outlets within the arm-rest console storage area. I found that the cord was just barely long enough to reach down into my car's storage compartment and be plugged in. That means for some vehicles, like larger cars and SUVs, it might be too short. The deeper the storage compartment, the more likely you are to have trouble using that DC outlet to power this adapter.

The two DC adapters are very deep within the unit, almost too deep. For many DC powered car accessories with shorter plugs, it seems like it might be possible to push them in too far and lose electrical contact.

The other minor negative was that the USB adapters are not perfectly parallel. They are separated by metal but the USB pins are embedded in tabs made of some kind of composite material. You have to carefully insert USB cables because if you don't you risk damaging your connector or the adapter.

CONCLUSION

This is a good unit even if it isn't perfect. Considering the price and the fact that the product performs as advertised, I still recommend this over most others I have tried. It's worth it to have a few extra adapter plugs available to charge your accessories and electronics in your car.

Enjoy.

This item would be great if it worked, but my USB circuit blew out within a few days of plugging it in, before I even had a chance to use the USB sockets. I smelled burning insulation but didn't associate it with the converter.

I think many (all?) of the folks who are complaining about the LEDs being nonfunctional don't realize that they are reading the charge state of the CAR battery, not the items that are plugged in. If you look at the small instruction sheet included, it says that it's showing the functioning of the car's charge system when the car is running, and the charge on the battery 10 minutes after the car is shut off (but with the starter switch in the 'accessory' position. Quite useful for finding out what kind of shape your battery is in before the cold weather hits, as even a mostly-dead battery will start a car OK in warmer weather. This little item saved me a tow.

At least the 12V sockets still work. I wish I had tried it out when I first got it rather than wait a couple of months I wasn't able to return it for a refund.

2&1/2 inches diameter on the bottom, chamfered

3 inches diameter on the top, also chamfered

2&1/2 inches tall

Cord exits the back of the unit 2 inches from the bottom, no strain relief.

Cord length is 39 inches

Lighter plug is 3&3/4 inches long, including the stiff strain relief.

Nice surface for gripping the plug when pulling out the plug, but for me I wish the plug was smaller or right angle... I'm not going to be unplugging it. Due to the short length of the cable, and the big plug, I directly wired a socket extension cable to my car's accessory wiring to avoid a big plug in my center console... which also frees up my car's socket.

Bright smooth nickel plated contacts all around. Fuse is a standard cylinder type marked 10A, accessed by unscrewing the nipple end of the plug. The + contacts for the round sockets is one solid piece of metal. One philips screw in the middle of the bottom appears to hold the case together, also one phillips holding together the plug.

Subtle blue glow from the base of the round sockets. Not obnoxious bright like the units I used to have.

This is a perfect solution for what I needed, and the unit works well. Like most adapters it takes two hands to remove the plug, however the design allows single handed plugging.

Great purchase, my only regret is padding my order for free shipping with other things. I should have gotten two of these instead :)

Works great, and what a price! I'm happy! However, be aware that this battery may be a little deeper in size than what you are replacing. I bought this for my 2005 Yamaha V-star 1100, and had to tug on the exhaust and pound hard down on the metal side-panel to get it back on. I read of other people using replacement batteries on V-star 1100s, and not being able to get covers back on at all because of larger, after-market exhaust. Fortunately, my exhaust is stock, and the cover could be forced through the gap with some muscle and some scraping.

But for the price, I order some spares. You can also get a 120 volt ac to 12 volt female cigarette lighter addapter and use them in the house, giving you a cheap SD card player for your home stero. I have also set them up to use with my old boom box radios outside in the yard. With these, I can play any music I want on any old FM receiver.

Pretty straightforward... works as advertised... says it will only take usb's in FAT file format but it's taking my FAT32 one just fine. The only negative is it doesn't keep track position when you turn off the car -it just starts the track over again. Even pausing it before you turn off the car won't save it. Remote works just fine. It's worth at least trying out.

Solio Classic Universal Hybrid Charger

Solio Classic Universal Hybrid ChargerI bought this product about a year ago. i travel alot an like to use the cell as back up for when I do not have time to sit and wait in a airport. (can recharge on the plane) For my phone and mp3 player it has worked great. It will recharge my razor 2.5 times before being drained.

I noticed it seemed to take a long time until I talked with an engineer friend of mine who told me that most glass, especially glad in cars, is designed now to reduce the full impact of the sun in various ways. Best to to this outside. Upon reading reviews, those who had the best charge rates were those who indeed left theirs outside in one place.

Finally one of the main reasons I invested in this device was to help front the money in a company and technology I beieve we must develop further. By buying this product, I hope the company will make enough to continue to develop better products for us in the future. I have seen this product evolve to this point before buying one that seemed pragmatic and affordable so I would like to help ensure its future.

I've had a great experience with all of my Solio chargers. Critics need to understand the basics of solar power before they complain. This is an excellent product not only for the environment but for the convenience factor. I've had great luck on long camping and back country trips where the Solio has powered my GPS and cell phone when I needed it most. Don't knock it till you try it. And to the wonderful people at Solio I say keep up the excellent work I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

It takes about 8 hours of direct sunlight to fully charge. If its overcast

and/or not pointed towards sun it will take longer. Best to not do it through

a window. Its just common sense.

It comes with the adapter to connect to the ipod. You just plug the solio to

the adapter which leaves you with an USB connector free to hook to the

ipod or iphones cable that came with that device. A lot of people just don't get the connections. Then just push the on/off button and your charging from the solio's internal battery. If you have almost any cellphone adapters can be easily ordered for around $10.

This is a compact, light weight unit designed to recharge our standard hand held electronic devices we lug around with us. I use mine for my cell phone, iPod and kindle. It came with several tips to adapt to different phones, but my Motorola just uses a mini-USB. I had to buy a micro-USB for my kindle and I opted for the iPod cable. If the Solio is fully charged, it will pretty much fully charge any of these units. A full charge will take pretty much all of the capicity of the Solio, so don't even think about fully charging more than one device in a day.

My sister carried one of these around Europe so her kids could use their hand help video games during down time. As various countries have different voltages and different plug configurations, this became a handy tool.

I wanted to give the Solio 5 stars, my only complaint is that it takes MANY, many hours to fully recharge this little guy. You need full and direct sunlight to make it happen. In the desert your gold. If you have this tied to your backpack and you are in a shaded forest for most of the day, don't expect much of a charge.

I needed a way to charge my camcorder battery while backpacking in the Grand Canyon. Over 6 miles from an electrical outlet, this worked perfectly. It was also light enough not to weigh me down.

Bare-Tool Makita BCL180ZW 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Vacuum (Tool Only, No Battery)

Bare-Tool Makita BCL180ZW 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Vacuum
  • Up to 10 minutes of continuous use from a single fully charged 18V Compact Lithium-Ion battery
  • Strong suction power for fast and efficient cleaning
  • Compact design at only 18-3/4″ long and weighs only 2.7 lbs for reduced operator fatigue
  • Ergonomic soft grip handle provides increased comfort and control
  • Accepts 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery for even longer run time

overall this does what it supposed to. if you already have a bunch of Makita Li-Ion tools then its a nice addition.

strong suction for a cordless and good 20min battery life with the 3AH batteries.

I dinged Makita a couple stars on this one for the following reasons...

1. For a piece of plastic with a little motor and fan inside, $99 is a bit pricey.

2. The on off switch is a momentary switch that has to remain held to operate. there is no continuous on switch position or lock

3. they reversed the nozzle connections to make it so standard vacuum accessories don't fit without making the 1 1/4 inch adapter that a previous reviewer mentioned...

4 the cloth filter gets dirty real quick causing loss of suction. a pleated paper filter would have probably worked better and easier to blow clean with a compressed air nozzle.... The black and decker cordless vac I have also has a twist feature to clean the dust off the filter without having to remove it

Like all the 18v XLT tools, this product is well thought out and of highest quality. The price would be very high if this were the only XLT one were to buy (shelling out $100+ just for a battery and charger), but as an addition to an existing XLT set, the price is well worth it. I found mine at Tylertool for $72 (after coupon) which actually puts it at the low end of any 18v LXT bare tool.

The light weight, high power and excellent balance just feels good. Very quiet! Crevice tool clips to long wand for onboard storage. Instantly changes from a short handheld to a long reach floor sweeper simply by adding the long floor wand. Attachments are well-fitting friction fit, so no fumbling with latches. Once I used it, I instantly appreciated how great it is to be able to vacuum floor areas while standing straight up without having to constantly bend down. The ball joint on the wide floor head is amazing. It keeps the head always in full contact with the floor, NOT tilting up as the wand is flexed (which happens with other rigid floor heads). Very slick. The debris capsule readily twists open to emty the vac, and the 2-stage filter design is simple to clean and looks rugged (heavy cloth filter bag has stitched seams... made to last).

My first "test" was a large area of shredded cardboard on carpet (cats can be high maintenance!). It vacuumed the entire area quickly and I was surprised when I emptied the chamber. There was also a large amount of cat hair (that I never realized was in the carpet) which it obviously extracted with ease. With XLT batteries available, this lightweight and powerful tool provides great freedom. Readily portable, it is NOT tethered to a dedicated charging stationalong with the internal, non-removable batteries of limited life. Instead, it is free to fly to the house... the shop... and to the job site.

Accessories, like nozzles and brushes, are listed in the manual. But since this tool was just released, I doubt that they are available yet. I wanted to have a brush, as did an earlier reviewer, StevieQ. There is a quick fix... Cut a short piece (4" will do) of tubing from a 1-1/4" plastic sink tailpiece or extension tube such as this: 1 1/4" x 6" Pvc Extension Tube. Use it to couple any 1-1/4" vacuum brush to the end of the vacuum or the wand. It friction fits and is the same size as the wand. I wouldn't be surprised if Makita soon includes a brush with the basic vacuum.

Ok I have to ask why people are buying this for vacuuming couches and kitchen floors and crap like that... this is designed for portability and for people who already have the LXT system. I'm a contractor and do a lot of maintenance and repair work and painting and this is an essential tool to have in the arsenal. I have been thinking about having a dust buster for a long time but never wanted yet another charger to carry around. Enter the LXT cordless vacuum.... problem solved. This is NOT a shop vac!!! it's not designed to suck up screws and nails!!! it is however designed to be very portable and fit in a tool bag when you need to suck up a little mess in someones house without dragging out the shop vac. I was actually shocked at how well the floor nozzle and extension tube worked.... I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.

and come on people... complaining about the momentary switch??? it takes almost no effort to keep your finger on the trigger... its in such a position that you actually have to work harder NOT to press it.

The only reason its a 4 star review and not 5 is just due to the price.. it is a bit expensive, but still worth the price for the convenience you get. It could have used a brush attachment but it should be easy for me to rig one up.

I have become quite a fan of the Makita LXT series of 18-Volt. I use my Makita BUB182Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Blower Bare-tool nearly everyday and I have found that my Makita LCT300W 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 3-Piece Combo Kit to be a perfect rechargeable drill set. Since I have been so satisfied (and because I have extra batteries and a charger) I thought I would give the Cordless Vacuum a try, and so far it has completely met my expectations.

A few Notes

Will accept either the 3.o aH Makita BL1830 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Battery or the 1.5aHMakita BL1815 18-Volt 1.5 Ah Compact Lithium-Ion Battery battery. The 1.5aH will save you a pound or two in weight but will cut your run time down 50%

-Very good (but not great) suction

Only 1 filter included.... with no sign of how to get replacements. I am sure if the one that comes with it gets damaged you cold improvise.

When using the floor cleaner with the extra length attachment the tool is *almost* long enough so that a 6' man will not have to bend down to clean the floor.

Not any louder than any other cordless vacuum.

Easy to clean

Batteries charge quickly (although they are not included) 15minutes for the 1.5aH and 30 minutes for the 3.0aH.

The whole unit is light less than 5lbs

Final Verdict While I am not completely sold that the filter will hold up I do believe that this is a very useful tool. It is perfect for cleaning our car and any light jobs around the home or garage.

4 1/2 Stars

but not as good as most of the Makita cordless tools -mainly because I would like it to have more suction. It's light, and very quiet relative to the rechargeable vacuums I've used. I also don't know why they used the white color since none of their other tools do. I frequently use it, and I already had the makita batteries so I'd buy it again.

I bought a sink extension tube at HD so I could rig an attachment for a bristle head that came from another vacuum.

Update: My main complaint about this vacuum is that it is not powerful which makes me wonder how some people can rave about it. Do the units vary? Inside is a fine mesh filter and then a VERY thick paper like filter. If I remove the thick filter draw is much improved. I think I'm going to experiment with using a coffee filter inside the mesh filter.
