This is a handy device. Use it to keep your phone's battery charged or use it to transmit audio from the phone's MP3 player or radio app through an FM channel on your car's FM receiver.

I have three complaints:

1. Sometimes the signal transmitted by the Gomadic device is just not strong enough to eliminate all hiss in the radio's output. You have to try different radio frequencies and even move the phone around a bit.

2. Because the controls for changing the frequency are part of the same unit as the power plug, viewing the frequency or changing the frequency can be cumbersome.

3. The price is a bit too high. I recently purchased an equivalent device for the iPhone for about five dollars.

This is an amazing FM transmitter. Of course I was leery since I've heard so many bad things about transmitters, but decided to give it a try before buying a new stereo with an audio jack. This works GREAT. Even my skeptical boyfriend was amazed. I am always skeptical about FM transmitters for music playback through the radio of one's car. Having tried many of these devices I was never really pleased with the sound quality because of the amount of static that could be heard over the soundwaves.

I am happy to say that this device works GREAT! As long as there is nothing electrical between this transmitter and the antenna of your car, the clarity of the signal is amazing! I turned down the sound of my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to see how much static I could here and pumped up the car stereo volume and I could barely hear any static!

I use it with a cup holder cigarette lighter power unit (it also has TWO USB power connectors) so I can power other music devices while using the 3.5 mm jack to port the sound through the car speakers.

I purchased this unit for my new truck so I didn't need to un-install the inverter from my other truck. I am running this unit off of two six volt golf cart batteries run in sequence to get 12 volts. I have the batteries charging from my main battery with a constant duty silonoid between them. I installed the remote switch for it and I love this set up. I can leave my inverter on overnight and even though it will drain the golf cart batteries, it does not affect my main truck battery. I can even run my Lincon 140 welder from this inverter. I purchased this for my work truck. A co-worker also has one on his. They work great. So far we have had no problems with them. I ran 25 feet of two gauge wiring from battery to inverter. I ran about 5 feet of two gauge for ground. Our truck's are diesels and have two batteries. My co-worker left his on the other night and it ran the batteries dead. The load adjust function seams to work, but not real good when set to the least sensitive setting.

In my haste to order, I neglected to thoroughly read about the features of the PV2000FC. I was seeking a 2,000 watt unit equipped with a built-in battery charger and an automatic transfer switch that immediately activates the unit when utility power fails. Unfortunately, this unit does not have such a features.

My intent for obtaining the APS 2012 was to assemble a portable power generator and documenting -with a camera -every step involved. This project is intended to become a Special Report in both written and video format, which will be available to the public... hopefully on Amazon. Working title for the Special Report is HOW TO CREATE A GASOLINE-FREE, OFF-THE-GRID, PORTABLE POWER GENERATOR.

As of December 1, 2012, this project is a work-in-progress. Photography has been completed. Report writing and video narrative authoring is currently under way.

This product does all that it was advertised to do and has plenty of outlets--2 standard wall outlets, a car outlet and a USB outlet. I received this product this evening, and I have to admit it looks great. I was really excited to try it because it seemed far better in construction than some reviews have said. I took it out to our 2003 Pontiac Montana. We power stuff through the utility & cigarette lighter adapters all the time. First problem: It would not stay put in the socket, but instantly popped out. I tried numerous times to get it to stick. Finally, I just decided to hold it in and see if I could power it one. No luck. Just plugging the adapter into the vehicle blew the fuse.

"Hmm, must be a fluke, I thought, I'll try it in my Camry." Took it over to the Camry, plugged it in, and before I could even try turning it on, my radio went dead -and the power port with it. It had blown the fuse in the Camry, too. And this is with nothing plugged into the inverter, mind you!

It's going back. Totally unreliable, and so far all it's done is blow fuses.

First, I'm very happy this power inverter has a 12V female connector allowing me to continue having a 12V power port available. This is constant whether the power inverter is on or off. The USB power port is also constant. The only need for the power inverter to be in the "on" position is for using the 110V outlets. They (either individually or simultaneously) can handle a max of 200W with a spike (1/3 of a second) of 400W. I've only used them with a little more than 100W so far without any problems.

Second, the bad, really, not so bad...The fan does make noise but only when the power inverter is switched on to use the 110V outlets. This is acceptable and necessary for cooling the unit. Since using the 110V outlets may be rare anyway and when being used while driving, the road noise, A/C and talking make the fan noise virtually unnoticeable. Another thing is the protective caps are a bit difficult to remove, especially the USB cap. This cap can be left off/open for regular use.

As for the power inverter sitting securely in your cup holder depends on your cup holder. In my case, the unit was not very stable where I used foam around the bottom to give it a snug fit in my cup holder. Foam also allows air flow to the fan intake vents. I never received a "rubber chunk" as another reviewer stated.

Overall, I am very happy with this power inverter...With all these functions in my vehicle, it's like having a car office.

I would rate this as so-so. The unit does fit in the cup holder, but it is not a snug fit, so it may flop around a bit. The fan noise is pretty loud in respect to it's purpose. I use the AC plugs infrequently, but nice to have them when you need them. FYI....fan noise is only present when using AC adapters.

This is an excellent machine, and at such a cheap price!

I'd originally intended to buy a simple small power converter from Radioshack, but they were 39 bucks for a crappy thing that only has 40W output and looked very flimsy. I knew there had to be a better option online, so I came to take a look here, and lo-and-behold, I found this gem of a little power converter.

The size isn't too bulky or space-taking (it sits nicely in a corner without disturbing anyone), the cord is long enough that I can have it on top of the cabinet next to my sound system, or in a shelf beneath it depending on my mood, and its power output is 100W! I needed to chase down a slow starting problem that only happened once in a while. I wanted to rule out the battery as the problem, but also needed to test the battery voltage drop during starting. Many digital multimeters have a "peak hold" feature that will hold the highest reading, but for starter testing you need to hold the reading of the lowest voltage measured during starting. The conductive CCA test of the Solar BA7 gave me the battery condition information I needed. The system test gave me the starter load voltage drop test I needed.

The Solar BA7 gets its operating voltage from the battery and indicates the no-load battery voltage when you connect its clips to the battery posts. You then can select the CCA test, enter in the battery's rated CCA, and get a reading of the actual CCA of the battery using a conductive test that sends a 1KHz sinewave through the battery to measure its internal resistance. Next, you switch to the SYSTEM test and crank the car. The BA7 will indicate and hold the lowest voltage reading obtained during starting and give you an "OK" or "FAIL" indication using LEDs. Then, as the engine is running you can advance to the charging test and see the battery voltage while the alternator is providing a charge. Once again, the BA7 gives you an LED indication of "OK" or "FAIL".

The BA7 is a handy tester to have for a quick test of your car's starting and charging system. It is simple enough for the non-technical person to use, but useful for the experienced tech to do troubleshooting. If you only need a one-time test, you can get that for free at many auto parts stores. But, if you are chasing down an intermittent problem, or want a battery system tester for your automotive toolbox, the BA7 is a good product to have.

So rather than having to take your batteries to your local Auto Part store everytime, buy this tester and have the professional test yourself on your own time, anywhere.

5) Sometimes your starting issue in your vehicle is not a bad battery, but rather a starter or alternator. So you can easily rule these out too by just testing them with the same tester too. You just hook it up to the battery posts just like you would for a battery test, select either the Starter or Alternator test on the tester, and either start the car, or leave it running, and it calculates the voltage readings needed to determine if the Alternator or Starter is bad or going bad, and you're done. Don't have to remove the alternator or starter or fumble around to get to them because you only connect the tester to the battery posts and it reads and tests through the system itself. So much easier with this tester.

CONS:

None that I can think of, it's a great tool for a good price. Can't say enough about it!

This is a great product for the home auto maintainer. I'm impressed with the design and the build quality. We have 4 cars, 2 of which are specialty cars that are not driven frequently. The battery tester revealed a problem with the battery I least suspected, in my wife's car, which had not exhibited a noticeable starting problem. One minor thing to mention the display is a bit difficult to read in bright sunlight, but it is fine if in a garage or shielded from bright light.

I bought one of these on 1 Dec. 2012 and it is just like the one in the picture asymmetrical with a straight cord.

I bought a 2nd one to install on my motorcycle and I wanted the straight cord to fasten to the frame under the bodywork.

The 2nd one is of a more traditional symmetrical shape and with a coiled cord. Not a real letdown though, the coiled one will work great in the car! (But the seller should warn you!)

I bought this charger to jump start cars with dead batteries. It is not capable of doing this.

These are the actual specs the charger produces.

At 50 amp draw the charger will maintain just over 12 volts, when current draw out of the charger is increased to 100 amps charger voltage drops to 10 volts, when current draw out of the charger is increased to 200 amps the charger voltage drops to 6.5 volts.

So a typical starter that draws around 200 amps (common 4 cylinder starter motor draw) and needs 12 volts to operate, this charger will not turn the car motor over.

The 10 and 30 amp ranges work fine for fast charging of a battery.

Add note 4/4/2013:

I contacted the company to discuss the battery charger's capabilities.

The tech rep said the charger is not designed to start a car without a good battery.

He recommended letting the battery charge for an extended period of time and switching to the start mode to start the car.

So this machine is good for events like leaving the lights on, etc. where a battery is ok but has lost its charge and you need to charge the battery up in a hurry.

TomTom ONE USB Battery Charger

When I got my Tom Tom One, there was a quick start guide that was to say the least inadequite. One of the things they left out was the fact that you can charge your Tom Tom using the USB cable connected to your computer. Insted they have a stern warning in their quick start guide suggesting you spend 30 bucks more to buy the Charger. The Charger works fine, but I don't think much of Tom Tom's business ethics in not including detailed information about their product when the consumer purchases it so you don't end up spending money on things you really don't need. For that reason, I wouldn't give Tom Tom any stars.

Three battery charging scenarios:

1. The included USB cable for downloading from computer will "trickle" charge device's battery if the device is turned off while attached to computer (explained on P9 as Note of Quick Start Guide). Takes about one hour to fully charge.

2. Included USB cable for car use will do the absolutely identical thing as the USC computer cable as explained above.

3. Optional wall outlet charger not required if one does not need to quick charge device. Advantage of using supplied USB cable with computer is to first hook up to TomTom Home to check for downloadable updates and then tunoff to trickle charge device as needed.

I don't think TomTom is being deceptive about the need to buy their wall outlet charger. One has to read the Quick Startup Guide, which is that a guide, and then download and carefully read the User Manual that is available from TomTom Home. It is more detailed on the operation of the device. On p6 of the Quick Start Guide under the header "Troubleshootiong" is clearly states , "Always make sure that you are using the latest version of the TomTom application on your One XL...see TomTom Home on page 9."

One has to read the instructions to be smarter that the equipment one uses.

This charger works. It charges faster than if you were using the USB from the computer. I like how it has interchangable pins for if you want to take your TomTom overseas and charge it while on vacation.

After purchasing a TomTom One I noticed it has a feature for walk routes, I thought it would be something I would never use and didn't think twice about it.

Well, it just shows you how wrong first impressions can be.

I was recently on vacation in Los Angeles (South Pasadena to be exact) visiting filming locations from the first Halloween film (1978). I had researched all the info online then programmed the locations as "Favorites" into my TomTom One. This way I could quickly find an address I wanted to see rather than type out the city, street, and house number.

The one disadvantage of the TomTom ONE is that its battery life is only 2 hours, so it's important you have a car charger and/or home charger to power the device up when not in use. A long time ago (3 years whoa) I bought a ctek 3amp charger/maintainer and used it for my genset so it would always be ready to go (it's an autostart but does not have a battery maintainer). I was amazed at how well the battery was maintained by the little 3A charger.

I've had my 25000 for a couple years now and a few people have emailed me with questions I did not answer previously. I'll summarize them here

1 reliability like a charm. Unlike the 7000 series (7A), the 25000 (25A) series has an internal ducted cooling fan which only comes on during high current charging for long life.

2 featurs it has the desulphation mode like the other chargers, but can handle larger cells. Other than that it does NOT have the ability to select SLA (gel cells), wet cells, or marine cells

3 temperature sensor unlike it's smaller cousins, there are 3 wires at the end of the fixed cable (which does not work with their accessory system as it does not have the required connector) the 3rd wire is a temperature sensor designed to be held close to the battery during charge so that voltages are adjusted for cold or hot weather and battery temperature. This helps protect the battery from overcurrent or overcharge. To sum it up in one word its a very fast charger, and safe at the same time NOTHING like the old crank up the timer based on the voltmeter chargers.

Those where the 3 questions I was asked now everyone knows. BTWI just ordered another one of these as I loaned mine to a friend who uses ctek's smaller units and he was so impressed he gave me the money to buy a new one as he liked mine so much.

I later bought 2 of their 7002 series chargers these were 7 Amp capacity and had extra features for dealing with a wider range or chemistries like the spiracell optima batteries I use in many applications. I even installed the under $20 dash mount charger interface in a spare din opening in my dash it was a 30 minute job but gave me the convenience of a plug in for my charger without having to pop the hood and clip it on just plug the charger into the dash outlet, and it included a battery guage of blinking leds red for discharged, yellow for discharging, and green for full. They blink all the time and use very little power

Since amazon does not carry the 25000 I became involved in discussions with CTEK and was shipped a unit for evaluation of my battery banks that are paralleled from multiple 12VDC cells. the 25000's closest relative is the 7002 and it features many of the same "stairstep" leds for indication of how the charge is progressing.

At 25A, it is the most powerful CTEK charger to date, equivalent to about 3.5 7002 chargers and priced at about 3.0 7002 chargers, so it's more economical if you have a battery bank. I am very pleased that they kept the battery desulphating features that ctek is known for in the 25000. The extra current is nice to have when you have 4 100AH cells in parallel for a 400 AH battery bank that occasionally needs topping off or desulphating. Ctek has always been at the forefront of chargers and accessories to go with them they are rated for wet environments and mine have been rained on more than once without a failure. If you have multiple batteries such as an RV with 2 deep cycle 12VDC cells and 1 engine starting battery, this is the ideal charger when you find AC. And with 25A, it most likely can power your 12VDC low power devices without draining your battery bank. When I say MOST that excludes the microwave, big screen TV but includes the 12VDC lighting inside the RV and a small TV set. The advantage to you is when you pull into an RV park with AC power you can recharge your deep cycle cells and run the inside lighting off the CTEK 25000 at the same time with 25 amps of supply current.

I borrowed the flir microbolimeter from the lab becuse the unit gets warm, but checking the ctek connectors they stayed relatively cool for running a 25 A current through them. That's impressive in and of itself.

I would highly recommend this to RV users, solar users, or anyone with a battery bank of 12V cells in parallel. Its rated for 50-500 AH storage capacity and represents the top of the line in CTEK power chargers.

I've used three other chargers and the "Multi US 25000" is the best! It saved three of my expensive AGM batteries. Sure, I wish it had a digital readout 'cause I like eye-candy but I'm not too lazy to put the volt meter on the battery(s). Nice heavy cables/clamps and soldered too. Temp sensor on the positive clamp. I do wish they had made the battery cable in such a way that I could reach further than 31 inches between the positive and negative battery posts (battery bank). You can charge up to 500 amp hours worth of batteries at a time.
