I bought this device for an 8 day car vacation trip. I specifically wanted to recharge and power my MacBook Pro, which comes with an 85 Watt power supply (my kids used the MBP in the car to watch videos). It was used continuously while we were driving, approximately 22 hours total during the 8 day trip. The device just basically worked, what more can I say? I also used the built in USB port to charge up my cell phone and iPod (only one device at a time).

According to the documentation, this device only outputs 90W sustained. This wasn't an issue for me, as I doubt the MBP was drawing anywhere near the 85W limit of the power supply. Compared to others reviewed at amazon.com, this device does not have a fan, so it operates silently. The last thing I needed was *more* noise in the car.. ;-)

The only negative I had is that the MBP plug was kinda loose in the AC outlet in the device, not sure if that's the fault of the MBP power adapter or this device. It was tight enough, so the plug did not fall out while the car was in motion.

I'm glad I bought this device.

I bought this for a car that needed to charge both a USB and a conventionally powered device as well. The good: it did charge both devices and apparently did not damage either. The bad: it literally started BILLOWING SMOKE after just a few hours use and could have caused serious damage if not removed. It was actually hot to the touch when it was pulled from the car socket.

I would not recommend this product to anyone for any reason as not only is it a complete waste of the money, but from my experience, it is actually hazardous to life and property.

I had this product for over a year and I never had any problems that the other people are talking about. For over a year, my radar detector was plugged into the circular DC input and my phone charger or notebook cord was plugged into the AC input. The black top that plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet of your car will occasionally come off, but it screws right back on. The only thing I've never tried was the USB input. What I like most about this DC to AC adapter is that you don't lose your circular input (cigarette lighter outlet) and you get an extra USB input as a bonus. Most adapters would have only 1 or 2 inputs. This one has 3. Today my car got broken into and someone stole it, so I'm buying me the same exact one. I don't want to risk buying something else when I know this one works...at least for my use.

This is an update after 5 months of constant use in Baja california. I run a 12volt refer and the lights to a small house.

Testing with a watt meter:

Watt meter between charger and battery. my panels

( 320 year old 50 watt panels) had at least a peak wattage of 130 (9.5 amps) watt on a sunny day, and hit 200 watts on some partly cloudy days. So the unit was pushed to the max, and held up well. Wattage to a fully charged battery was 5-8 watts. There was no heat coming from the unit. Would up my rating 5 stars. Therefore the following review should be changed in spots, but I'll leave it for now.

How Morningstar Sunsaver ss-10 works and the potential flaw.

Assuming temperature 25 degrees C: the controller will put a voltage of 14.4v into the battery. With no load on the system, and sun, a voltmeter will always read 14.4v no matter what state of charge the battery is in. This is just what my battery type wantsconstant voltage. So far great.

But when the battery is fully charged , the float voltage does not go down to around 13.7v. The float voltage is 14.4v. After 2 days of charging, an analog amp meter shows zero current going into the battery. however my 0-25a meter is accurate at best to + 1 amp. So maybe a float voltage of 14.4v is ok? Provided the current is very low. My batteries (expensive) call for a float votage of 13.2v to 13.7v. I'll know more when I get a digital amp meter.

I can't find any specs from Morningstar on how much current is going into a fully charged battery.

It's just sort of dissapointing that I spent the extra money for a name brand, and may have ended up with an inferior product. If I had known the float voltage was 14.4v, I would not have purchased. Especially with no specs on current at the float voltage. If I hadn't modified the mounting holes , I would return it. Now I'm left with the problem of finding out the current myself, and then babysitting the thing so my batteries don't overcharge.

The temperature sensor works well.

Correction. I started out with an 85% charged battery. I do not know what the initial charging battery voltage would be if I had started out with a more discharged battery. Probably would depend on % battery charge and output of solar panels. Float voltage still 14.4v.

Update. I bought a 10 amp controller that looks identical to the HQRP 10a. Was not purchased from amazon. Was 20 bones delivered.

That controller is way way worse than the sunsaver. It starts the day on a fully charged battery and enters an equilization phase. Battery voltage is brought up to

16 plus volts then shut off until voltage goes down to 14.4v. Then the full power of the panels ( 6 amps in my case)is put into the battery until voltage goes to 16 plus again. This went on for an hour until I pulled its plug. Next day same thing. I'm not sure what kind of battery likes this treatment. Not gel and not my AGM. Would be ok for an old car battery you don't care about. So for under 60 bucks the morningstar may be as good as you can get.

I've put a switch on the morningstar and can lower the float voltage to 14.1v. I think I can live with that. Or maybe go back to the nc25a I was using.

I have no use for the load contols on these controllers. I'm not lighting a street lamp. My main use is running a fridge/freezer, that shuts down when batteries are below 12 volts. I would be happy if the manufacture left out the load feature and just spent the savings to make a charger that correctly charged the battery.

I have been using this adapter for the past several months. It does work, although I question that I really get 1000ma from each USB port (or 2A total otherwise) since the phone charges much slower than 1A wall chargers.

However, there's a bigger issue with this adapter. There is a LOT of noise in the power coming out of it, enough to be noticed (loudly) in the audio output of my HTC incredible. Other chargers I have don't do this. It's so loud that I wonder if this affects the life of the phone's circuitry as well.

As verified by a B&K Precision bench power supply, this unit only consumes around 2.5w of power when charging an HTC Droid Incredible, which is rated for 5V @ 1A quick charge. Neglecting charger overhead, 5w should be required. I found the same was true of a Griffin charger rated for 2.1A. Battery Charging Specification states that dedicated high-power USB charging ports should short the D+ and Dpins, and they are not shorted on this charger. The HTC OEM car charger works properly.

Ok, so I purchase this during an Amazon daily special. At the price of 6.99 with shipping two day included, I could not resist. Even though I commend Amazon for this "deal", I still can't rant and rave about this charger. To me, it is just another average charger that does the job. You plug it in the car or truck lighter, it does the job.

One thing I do like and will point out is the technical details says "Dual USB sockets allow you to charge 2 devices at once". This is a very nice feature. Further, the little blue light is "neat". Nothing special but at least you know it is doing its charging job by lighting up. I guess those two features might deserve a 4 out of 5 which I think I will change before posting...perhaps that does make it a little better than average from many I have seen on the market.

Pricing on Amazon at 9.99 with free shipping of two days from Amazon is great price and fast shipping...would I give what some of the independent want at 14.00 plus shipping of whew "higher than first class"? No, I would not. Sorry sellers who are selling this product, as I do understand you face "heavy fees" from Amazon, but why pay more with the competition? So, at 8.99 to 14.95 with shipping included...good deal and you'll be happy.

We live on 23 acres and use these almost every day to stay in touch while I am in the barn, hills etc. They work fine from inside a metal building to inside the house about 500 feet away. Actually they work from anywhere on the property. I tried them from down the road about 1/2 mile away, on the other side of a hill. Could hear the paging sound but we could not understand each other. Do not plug the headset when the radio is on. If you do that, then the radio immediately starts transmitting and does not stop no matter what you do until the head set is unplugged.

To use the headset, turn off the radio, plug in the headset, open the radio. When you do that it goes into VOX mode, it will start transmitting in about one second of your speaking. If you press PTT button, the VOX will be cancelled, and if you want to enable VOX again just turn off and on the radio.

Devices work great, they are easy to use on basic functions and require a bit more time for some of the bonus functions but it's to be expected with so many features.

1 Star reduction for the distance claim. While I was not naive enough to believe I would easily get 27 miles, I'm lucky if I'm getting over 2 miles around where I live. I've tested it a few different ways but the range can easily be reduced to a significant extent. Having known that would be an issue going into the purchase, it works great for almost all the uses we had intended it for that didn't involve moderate distance.

The LED is a nice feature, although we haven't had need of it, it has come in handy once or twice. The unit is easy enough for a 3 year old to understand it's basic use and all the features have worked as expected. The charge so far has held up well and we've used it infrequently for about 8 months. If you have neighborhood friends/babysitters/kid's friends then it works great as a replacement to a cell phone. Although our kids are not old enough for a cellphone, it's definitely an alternative.

Being from the "old school philosophy", I hate texting, tweeting, or twittering,

or whatever; we do enjoy being in direct real time communication when we are

up and down hiking paths, out of sight, even in some rough terrain.

This product works well for us and we give it a "thumbs up" for use and effect.

You do have to find the one channel that is not commonly used to have uninterrupted communication; there are many channels to choose from.

We can not say that it will work well with 20 or miles of separation, for we

have only been @5miles apart from time to time. We can hear clearly and use

The one big issue I have with the radios is the battery. The battery does not hold a charge for very long. I finally gave up and pulled it out to replace it with rechargeable AA batteries (3) That worked fine. The sound quality is OK at best. These were used for a cross country road trip and we had areas of limited coverage and areas of ok coverage. We were never more than a mile away from each other. I probably would NOT buy these again.

I haven't had this too long, but so far I LOVE it! Here's why:

1. I have an iPhone 4 in a nice thick protective case, and the arms on this mount are angled perfectly, and have a nice cushy foam on them, so they close gently but firmly on the sides. Holds the phone perfectly, which my last mount did not.

2. The mount also has a "foot" that my iPhone sits on, and one feature I didn't see mentioned before is that this foot has a wide hole in it, big enough for the charge cord to fit through! On one of my other mounts, I had to leave the phone pushed up high in the holder, and snake the cord up and around the foot. With this one, as long as I've put my phone in straight, I can just push the cord up through the hole and plug it in, without moving my phone at all.

3. I had a suction cup mount before, which seemed fine when the weather was warm. I live in NY, and this winter has been cold enough that every time I tried to use the mount, as soon as I touched it, the suction cup fell of my windshield. I couldn't rely on it. It also left suction cup rings on my windshield. This mount is sturdy and firm it's not going anywhere unless I take it off!

4. I love that it mounts to the radio the way it does. I don't need to play CDs since I have an iPhone, so I don't feel bad blocking the CD slot. The mount blocks the CD controls... but who cares? It is positioned perfectly (at least in my Chrysler Town & Country) right above the radio, where I can easily control my iPod functions, and also use my GPS functions. It turns sideways, tilts back and forth and up and down. Incredibly adaptable. My only concern is how long it will continue to stay tight if I turn it horizontally often (which I don't), so I will update this review if it ever gets loose. It doesn't feel like it will, though.

5. Great price! I've seen fancier, more "advanced" mounts for much more. Don't bother. This mount is perfect, and the price is more than reasonable.

I did lots of research, and almost bought several mounts dashboard-mounted, cup holder-mounted... thank goodness I found this one before I spent any money. If you have a radio with a CD slot, and your other controls won't be blocked by putting this in, get it. You'll love it!

You get what you pay for....

The car charger gets too hot when in use and the smell of burnt or burning wire permeates the air. I can't use this. I have to assume that something is seriously wrong with the car charger portion of this device. The other concern is that the other items (USB Cable, Wall Charger) might be of such inferior quality that they are going to short out my new phone.

I'm worried to use the products and at $11.55 total cost including shipping I can't afford to return it because the cost of shipping it back to China would be more than the entire purchase price.

I guess I'm stuck with a lemon.

PS~ The wire shorts out my phone when I use it. It also sparked today in an outlet at work. When others saw that I couldn't even give it away. So I threw it away.

I'm buying apple products. But no more cheap knock offs.

I've had a VIAIR 70P for quite some time and that unit is great for the small pump that it is. When I needed another small portable compressor that was able to be powered by a cigarette lighter power socket, I noticed that VIAIR had a new model and got one. This one is almost twice as fast as the 70P and every bit as quiet. The unit doesn't walk around when you're using it and the brass screw-on tire chuck makes for almost no air loss. The LED power indicator is a nice touch and I found the air pressure gauge to be spot-on as long as I turn the compressor off to check pressure. In all, another nice unit. -I just wish this was available when I got my 70P. Side note: don't throw away the box its a means of storage since this unit doesn't come with a carry bag.

I've had several other portable air compressors in the past but they were always in the $20, and below price range, which in essence turned out to be "junk. This is the first time I've purchased a Viair Air Compressor. I was hesitant in spending nearly $50 for for one, but once I received it I was very impressed with its quality and efficiency. I like the fact that the air hose fitting is brass and the end screws onto the air valves of tires. Unlike the toggle type of hose fittings on the cheaper models (which leak a substantial amount of air when you attach or detach them to the air valve and are cumbersome to use), the screw on brass fitting of the Viair loses a negligent amount of air during this operation. The pump is relatively quite for a portable, and it doesn't bounce around nearly as much as the cheaper models tend do. The air gage is very accurate (readings should be taken with the air hose attached and the compressor off ). My bicycle tires were about 15 lbs low and it only took the compressor 10 seconds to air them up. My car tires were about 3 lbs low and it took less than a minute to fill them. I also like the fact that the accessories for airing up air mattresses, basketballs and the like, are cradled on the compressor. All to often I forget where I put these items when I need them if not attached to the compressor. Compared to other air compressors within the same price range, I think this is by far, a cut above the rest.

Item arrived quickly. The compressor is very compact and feels well built and heavy.

I verified before purchase that it draws 14.5 amps, 12v. My power sources on a 05 landcruiser are 15 amp 12v. I tested it this weekend. Started the vehicle, used the rear cargo Aux socket to fill the two rear tires, it has plenty of power and inflated quickly. I moved it to the front cabin Aux socket on dash, and it blew the 15 amp fuse. Then I used the 15 amp cig lighter socket, and it blew that too.

Its not much use if it blows the fuse when you need it most.

I'm going to look into a direct battery power adapter plug.

First, I got right through to their technical department, and was given very clear answers to my questions. My main question was about blowing any fuses, as some reviewers had complained about, and the technician assured me that would not happen, as long as I had the engine running BEFORE I plugged in and turned on the compressor. After I spoke to the technician I decided to go ahead and purchase the VIAIR 85P compressor. When it arrived the directions on the box were very clear about turning on your engine before operating the compressor. The compressor is extremely easy to use. The brass screw on tire chuck for the tire stem is so much more convenient and easier to use than the machines at local gas stations, because you just screw it on and you do not have to hold it in place. It filled up my tire to the correct pressure in less than a minute, and the tire gauge makes it impossible for you to make any errors in judgement as to how much or how little to fill your tire, as long as you know what the PSI is for your tires. I am thrilled that I purchased this product. It is everything that the company advertises it to be and more. Also, as one previous reviewer suggested, keep the box, it is very convenient to store the compressor in, and has a convenient plastic carry handle.

This is a solid, well make unit. I've had 3 portable air compressors for personal automobile use over the last several years. This one is generally the best that I've owned. It is small, quiet, compact and doesn't bounce around. On my unit, the PSI gauge is relatively accurate which I crossed checked with a high quality dial type tire pressure gauge. I take my car to high performance driving events and for those of you that travel light to track events (no trailer), this is great pump to pack rat with the rest of your gear. It stands up to heavy use WHEN USED FOR CAR TIRES. The bronze twist on tire chuck is thick, solid and better made than those on other portable units. This is important if you are adjusting pressures on all four tires a few times a day over the course of a two/three day weekend track event. For a small portable pump, it's FAST. The pump works well for general, casual home use as well. But, with a PSI rating of 60, it is not made for bicycle tires. Small bicycle tires inflate extremely quickly with this unit. You have to watch the gauge very carefully and it is all to easy to exceed the pressure rating for the unit faster than you expect. This is where the design of the unit is flawed. When pressures exceed 60 PSI the fuse for the cigarette lighter in your car (20amp for my car) will blow before the fuse in the pump's power port plug will blow. It should be the other way around in my opinion. I think the people that complain of repeatedly blowing fuses in their car are likely using the 85P beyond the maximum 60PSI rating on the unit. The VIAIR 90P has a higher 100 PSI rating. I've never seen the 90P, but the push on attachment chuck is probably inferior for frequent use. I've had pumps with the push on type chucks, and inside of this type of chuck will wear down with repeated use. IN SUMMARY THE VIAIR 85P IS A FAST PUMPING, SOLID, DURABLE, WELL MADE PUMP WITH A MINOR DESIGN FLAW (FUSE ISSUE). DESPITE THE FUSE ISSUE, IT IS A GREAT CHOICE AS A PORTABLE TIRE PUMP TO KEEP IN THE CAR. DON'T USE IT TO INFLATE BICYCLE TIRES OR USE IT NEAR IT'S MAXIMUM 60PSI RATING.

Purchased the item. Great service from Amazon and it arrived quickly. Product is absolute junk and a waist of money as it will not record with consistency. Perhaps I got a lemon. It will only record between 11 17 seconds, and then stops recording....totally frustrating!!!!!

The advertisement was to good to be true, so don't be fooled by the items advertisement as it does not work. Directions are complete crap and very vague! Went to review the 11 17 second clips that it did record, but could only see 5 seconds of the recording before getting an error message. Used and 8 gig mini HCSD, so size should not be the issue. Very disappointed with the product.

I took a chance and purchase this item. It was worth it. I am using a 32GB Micro SD card have it set to record @ 5 minutes intervals.

I am very please with this item. I would not recommend for night use due to the fact that the LED light are very bright and would be an distraction to un-coming traffic.

Other than that the quality is not HD but you can't get anything with a better price budget.

I bought one last week. It arrived very quickly. I tested it immediately after I got it. The manual is very simple. So it took me a while to figure out how to use it. The main problem for this product is that the quality of the acquired image is very very poor. The image is totally blurred, no matter whether the objects are far or close. After I played it for half an hour, I decided to return it.

camera has suprisingly good video quality, the only downside we haven't recorded any falling meteorites yet. if you need accountability on a road this one is a good choice.

I concur with the previous review that camera will stop recording in 15 seconds to 4 minutes depending on Loop setting if the camera sees no motion (this is a separate issue from Motion Detection setting). I spent many hours of trial and error to get around this bug and could not do it. No documentation on Motion Detection and Gsensor setup options. Another example was Loop recording options were 1,2,3 minutes not 5,10,15 minutes as stated in the poorly written manual. I had version 1.00 of the firmware (2012/11/13). Camera has potential; the image quality was good for a $55 camera at all the selectable resolutions. I bet version 2.00 will work. Returned it.

I got one of these a few years ago when they first came out and now we own three and keep them charged at all times so we can grab one on our way out the door if anything (in our case, Iphones and Ipods) needs charging. I installed the previous version of this unit to provide solar power to my electric garden fence on 06/04/2011. It remained in continuous use without problems for 270 days then failed. My garden is in SW Oregon, so we do get a lot of rain. The maximum temperature range during the service time was from 85F to 20F. The led tube display is completely obscured by condensation inside the unit which would tend to make me think that it was not properly sealed and in fact was not waterproof as advertised.

My advice to purchasers would be to make sure you protect the unit from rain as much as you can without impairing the necessary ventilation around the product. If you do decide to buy this product, you should probably look for a way to protect it from the rain so long as you allow proper ventilation.

I do feel that the controller I purchased was in fact faulty and should have been replaced by the supplier. They did not want to do that and their warranty is in fact 200 days.

Just be aware if you buy this controller with the intent of installing it directly exposed to the elements you should plan on replacing it in 9 months.

Just remember, as with any "residential quality" transformer, buy 40-70% more output than your normal wattage load, and the transformer life expectancy will increase by double... (I'm retired electrician).

UPDATE 9-6-2012 : Yes, the instructions are next to useless, but now two friends of mine also have these, with no problems either. Transformers are darn near bullet proof or defective one or the other. But if you hook them up incorrectly, they will burn out quite quickly, depending on what you did wrong, and what load was on the transformer.

I just wonder if users are asking qualified people how to hook up, or just winging it.... BTW, I had pretty good luck with their customer service in North Carolina. You might call them if you are unsure of your installation ability.

First, be aware that when this transformer steps up the voltage, it simply doubles it and that is all it does. Since in the USA voltage is 120 Volts (it has not been 110 volts for a very long time) it outputs 240 volts not 220. It does not change the Hz so the output is 240V 60Hz. You should check whatever you are plugging into the "220V" outlet to make sure that it can operate at 240V 60Hz. The second problem is that the "Universal" outlet does not ground the widely used "Schuko" plug, so saying it is "Universal" is highly misleading. Also, be sure to get a much larger wattage than the nominal wattage of whatever you are plugging into it. I tried a 500 watt version with my 165 watt gelato machine but it kept blowing the fuse when the compressor cycled on. Which brings me to the third weakness which is the fuse sure they give you two spare ones, but a circuit breaker would be much better.

That said, this unit is inexpensive compared to what you would have to pay for one with a circuit breaker and a Schuko plug in addition to the "Universal" plug. So it might serve your purposes, just make sure whatever you are going to plug into it will work on 240V 60hz, doesn't use a Schuko plug and doesn't have wattage spikes that are many times their nominal wattage.

A step up transformer is a conceptually simple item and I've never owned another model so I can't make a comparison. However, I can say that I was very happy with the fact that the product came with extra fuses. The case is metal, not plastic. I like that the input voltage is set with a jumper.. no accidentally hitting a switch. As you can see from the picture, 220V output can handle most plug configurations.

I recently moved from Singapore (220v) to the US (110v) and wanted to keep using my stereo. I therefore bought this transformer. It is pretty heavy, but working fine as long as you watch limit your appliances do not exceed the max of 500 Watts. Please read manual before using it. There is a little plug at the back that you need to set whether you want 120-220 conversion or 220-110 conversion. For some appliances, like my Imac and Samsung TV there is no need to use a transformer because they run both on 100 and 220 volts. All you need then is a new power cord. Also for all 12v, 6v powered smaller devices and chargers you could also just buy a new power plug. These plugs cost you a few bucks and are cheaper than a convertor. However for my Pioneer stereo I needed a transformer and this product does the work perfectly. I could recommend this to anyone.
