SKIL 2354-01 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Palm-Sized Cordless Screwdriver

SKIL 2354-01 iXO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Palm-Sized Cordless Screwdriver
  • Max power of 4-volts with 20-percent longer run time
  • Compact, powerful, and lightweight
  • SiteLight LED work light for better visibility
  • Forward and reverse LED indicator shows drilling direction
  • Lithium-ion power battery holds charge up to 18-months

Let me start by saying that I loved my original Ixo. I still have it and use it. The battery has worn down so low and I needed a second one anyway... so I went ahead and ordered two of these for my shop.

The old version came with a charging cradle that held a selection of 10 various bits. The new version comes in a blister package that is a nightmare to open. It doesn't have a cradle. It just has a wall-wart charger that plugs into the bottom of the tool. It also only comes with 5 bits. Bits are not an issue, as they're cheap enough. The charger is inferior in design, however. Same output power and charge time, but just not as classy as the original.

The old Ixo was made in Maylasia. This one was made in China. They kept the price point the same, but eliminated accessories and moved production to a cheaper plant. Typical business in production these days.

That said, the overall build quality appears the same from the outside. I don't know if it will run for 5 years or so as the old one did. I certainly hope so. I will come back and update my review if I have any issues with this newer model. It certainly doesn't feel like some of the cheap crap we've been seeing these days coming from over there.

Performance of these little drivers is pretty incredible. I've used them to drive wood screws a couple of inches, self tappers into aluminum, etc... I make primary use of it as a string winder for guitars nowadays. (heavy usage)

The slow speed of it makes it very torquey and yet easy to control. The battery lasts for a long time from light usage. It will suffer if you use it for heavy driving, though. The Li-Ion battery in my original one went for a couple years before showing substantial degradation in performance.

I opened up my old one and found the battery to be the very typical 18650 Li-Ion battery which is widely used in small tools and remote control cars, etc... These can be ordered online for less than $10 each and soldered into the Ixo if you are competent enough at that stuff. I will be replacing the battery in my original one and continue to use it in the future.

If these new ones start to degrade, I will swap those batteries as necessary. The motor, gears, electronics, switches, etc... all seem to hold up really well.

Compared to the Ryobi Tek4 mini driver, which I have used extensively, this one is far more compact and delivers the same performance. They use the same battery (although the Tek4's modular batteries are sealed in plastic and not replaceable, and likely similar motors. The Ryobi comes with a clutch, but it makes the tool clunky. The Skil delivers with something that you can actually stick in your back pocket and no frills. The Ryobi looks more like a power tool and this one looks more like a toy. I prefer the tiny size and same power, though.

I recommend this tool to everyone. Even with my complaints as stated, buy it.

Bring back the cradle, Skil (Bosch)!!

UPDATE: Swapping batteries in mine with LG Chem Li-Ion 18650 Cylindrical 3.7V 2800mAh has made these things amazing. The stock battery is 1300mah, so the speed and power feels like double with the upgraded battery. It holds a charge a lot longer, too. (these seem to die too quickly)

I've been in the cstr biz for 25 years and bought more tools than I can recount (thousands). I personally own perhaps 10 different drills, and have handled many dozens more of all styles and makes.

I recall a small drill I bought for my mother 25 years ago one of the first small battery operated drills what a joke could barely turn a screw and battery life was a joke quickly ended up in the garbage (before we learned to recycle batteries).

As such, I stayed clear of these small "personal" screw drivers all these years. But knowing battery advances in the meantime, decided to pick this little guy up on a whim price was reasonable and could always return it.

To my surprise, found this little guy perfect for the odd job around the house, where I wouldn't bother getting out a larger, more powerful cousins and instead use an ubiquitous screw driver that is slow, but gets the job done.

Did a bit of painting recently, and found it very handy to dissemble some large furniture (the led light was actually quite handy) and to take off wall switch plates. Drove 3/4" screws into dense wood with a surprisingly torquey motor using low speed. And the battery life is very good on my second charge after being around the house a month.

For what it is, this little screwdriver does its job quite well. 5/5

Yes, less than ideal charger, but hey, for $35 what do you expect? One thing I'd have preferred is a slot to store bits on the driver, or at least supply several reversible bits (flat/phillips combo etc)

I was looking only for a handy-dandy little tool which could be stuck in a pocket for those "mobile" repair jobs. This little tool is all that and more. Not only it is handy as can be, its battery life is astonishing. Last week I was able to use it as my sole driver to assemble 4 36" kitchen base cabinets (each requiring roughly 65 screw insertions and tightenings. Power lasted to the last and probably could have gone further but I ran out of cabinets.

The only problem I have is the directional switch is positioned right under where it is most comfortable/practical to put an index finger when using the tool. And it's easy to inadvertently push the switch while exerting drive pressure. Takes a while to get use to that, and even then it's not 100%. A redesign should relocate the switch away from the gripping area. But I can live with that little fault given the overall utility.

I am giving this as a gift as I currently own one and it works great. However, Amazon is not accurate on the description of "what is in the box" as it says "The SKIL 2354-01 iXO includes one iXO SGK cordless screwdriver, one right-angle attachment, a ten piece bit set, one soft case, and one charger." There, in fact, is no right-angle attachment, a 5-piece bit set, and no soft case.

I researched all of these, including the B&D. i ended up going with this one, at lowes, and got it for 30 bucks. and picked up a screwdriver set for 6 bucks. great deal, holds a great charge. good construction. i am very happy. i already used it to assemble a piece of workout equipment, and it didnt falter once

Griot's Garage 92217 Battery Manager IV

Griot's Garage 92217 Battery Manager IV
  • Works on both 6 volt and 12 volt batteries
  • Great for monitoring and maintaining the battery on a vehicle in storage
  • Includes three different connection options with quick disconnect leads
  • Compatible with standard lead-acid batteries as well as AGM batteries
  • Quad-phase charging process

I bought the Battery Manager IV over a year ago, because my car often sits for extended periods of time without being driven. And I got tired of the battery dying, needing to get a jump or push-start the car, and other such inconveniences. And I can tell ya that ever since I purchased and have been using the Battery Manager IV, these frustrations have been a thing of the past.

It actively takes the battery up to 14.4V to fully charge it, then enters the float mode to maintain the battery's full charge at 13.5V (as opposed to cheaper units that keep driving 14.4V into a battery during long term float, actually damaging its life).

Also of note is that it'll charge a battery connected to the car, a solo/disconnected battery, and even a dual-battery setup, as I have in one of my vehicles.

One thing I did find out about this unit, however, is that the battery must already have and be able to maintain a minimum charge for the Battery Manager IV to work. Ie, this unit will NOT be able to charge a completely dead/drained battery. That battery will have to be charged for a bit (or, after a jump, drive around for a while for the alternator to charge the battery some), THEN the unit will take over, recharging the battery to its full capacity.

All in all, this unit does exactly what it claims to do, and it does it well. I am very happy with the purchase, and wouldn't hesitate to purchase a second unit for my other vehicle. The only reason I didn't though was I decided to go with Griot's 3-In-1 Battery Charger/Maintainer/Tester (Part #77495) so at least one of my units can charge a fully discharged battery, AND test it too!

We liked the first Battery Manager so well, we bought another one! One of our vehicles sits for long periods of time without being driven, and we have found that this works like a champ to keep the battery topped off. The second one lives at the beach house, to keep the vehicle there charged up when we aren't around.

Arkon GPS-NHWC Mini-USB Hard-Wire GPS Cable-Black

Arkon GPS-NHWC Mini-USB Hard-Wire GPS Cable-Black
  • Input: 12-24V
  • Output: 5V at 1A
  • Features built-in power converter and overcharging protection circuit
  • Compatible with most Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, and Mio GPS that use the Mini USB Power Connector

I hard wired several of these cables to my street and dirt bikes (BMW 800 GS, KTM 530, Husqvarna 310) for use with a Garmin Nuvi 550 and Oregon 450 T. They work well but prior units have failed. I traced the failure to breakage of the small internal wires due to shock and vibration. Riding aggressively off road creates quite a bit of shock and vibration. I suggest that if you use any of these small usb cable units on a motorcycle that prior to use, remove the box cover (2 small screws) and apply clear silicone sealant to the tiny wires and other internal pieces to secure them. Let dry, then reinstall the cover and you are ready to go. An added benefit to the silicone treatment is that it resists water which can also cause failure. Since going to this bit of extra effort i have had no problems and my GPS units work well. I would have rated 5 stars if the usb came pre-sealed and treated but then it probably would cost more. Overall these work great and the price is very reasonable.

Requires a little bit of wire stripping and soldering, as should be expected with a hardwire install. Works great with a Garmin Nüvi 1490T. Unlike some vehicle power solutions, it doesn't send the Nüvi into USB mode. The toroid makes it a little difficult to snake the cable through your vehicle, but it's not too bad. It would be nice if the plug was a right-angle.

Good solution for those who want to hard wire a charger (without using an accessory/cigarette lighter plug). I would have rated it 5 stars if the box that contains the circuitry had been a little smaller.

I wired this into my motorcycle to power my Garmin and it worked well for about 6 hours. After that, my Garmin Nuvi 765T started reporting "Accessory connected to wrong port" every few minutes and stopped charging. I ended up ripping out this charger and replacing it with the OEM Garmin charger http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0086CTL5Y/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_5 with leads soldered right to contacts and then wrapped in electrical tape. The OEM charger works much better.

The product is ok but I wish the box was smaller I couldn't fit it in the A-Piller so I had to hide it in the roof liner. This shortened all the wires and it barely made it to the fuse box. Also it would be nice if the plastic around the USB connector wasn't so thick. The TomTom has a recessed connection to you have to shove it in there and hope it fits.

Sony DCC-E345 Car DC Adaptor with Selectable Voltage Switch

Sony DCC-E345 Car DC Adaptor with Selectable Voltage Switch
  • Powers a CD or MD player through a car cigarette lighter
  • Selectable voltage switch: 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0 volts
  • Plug case supplied; cord length is 1.5 meters (5 feet)
  • Unlimited power while commuting or playing at the park
  • Essential accessory for using your personal CD or MD player in a vehicle

...it generates a fair amount of RF interference. If you use this in a car, you can pretty much expect that your AM radio reception will be significantly compromised, and if you use it to power a CD power or similar, unless the player itself is quite well filtered internally, you'll notice audible buzzing through the player's audio outputs (I have a Sony CD player that is really bad in this regard).

It does do a fine job of creating power, and I suppose for the price you can't really ask for a lot of internal filtering. So... the bottom line is that it's a fine product if the aforementioned limitations either don't apply to you or don't bother you.

I bought this to replace the original adapter I got with a Sony CD car kit 13 years ago, and was very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in quality. The cord is longer to avoid pulling, and is protected by a thick rubber exterior. The orginal cord I had was thin, and while it lasted 13 years, it finally snapped clean off. This current version of the adapter is much more rugged. It works great with my portable CD player, and I'm very pleased.

I needed a Sony car DC adaptor for a Sony Walkman and there it was... the perfect Sony accessory! I received it really fast too. Would do it again on Amazon!

The Phillips portable CD adaptor stopped working (unless I pushed it into the cigarette lighter space) and happily I found the Sony, so I can continue to listen to CDs in the car. I did have to add the alternate plug, to make it fit the Phillips player & switch to the proper voltage. And all is well again. It arrived quickly from the shipper.

I have now used this adapter less than 20 times, & like the Garmin adapter than came with the GPS, this one also lacks durabilityit's now broken; the Garmin adapter had broken after about the same number of uses. Neither adapter was misused or dropped, they broke after normal use. I know that the car's adapter plug is not the problem, because other adapters (like cell phone) do work in this car. Now I'm looking for another adapter, this time one that is neither Garmin nor Gilsson, & hopefully my third adapter will be one that lasts longer than either of these two! Although well-constructed of sturdier materials, easier to grip & a better fit with the adapter plug than the original adapter made by Garmin, my revised rating for this product would be 1*, simply because it's not worth the money for a product that has lasted such a short time.

I had a similar problem to the other reviewers. I plugged the charger in the very first time and it didn't work. The LED indicator light did not even illuminate. I know that the port on the vehicle works fine as I use it for other chargers all the time.

I took this charger apart and noticed that the fuse was blown. I bought a replacement fuse that matched the specs on the one that came with it (and also what the people at Radio Shack said are needed for car chargers). I plugged it in again only to be disappointed once more. I opened it up, and the fuse was blown again.

Something is clearly wrong with the electrical layout of this device.

Stopped working after some time. The connection b/n one of the wires and the plug, where a small board connects the wires to the pins, broke. Soldered, worked a bit, now it is broken again. Tried to fix a second time only to fry the fuse. Not happy with how long it lasted.

I bought these radios intending to use them only occasionally and in an urban setting. Here is how it went:

The units themselves are very nice looking and have many useful features such as voice activated transmission, a backlit display and roger beep tone. You get 8 rechargeable batteries and swivel-belt clips along with the radios themselves and the dual desk-top charger. The range is about 2 miles although the manufacturer claims 5 miles. But most companies make these claims based on the range you might get under absolutely perfect conditions.

I was very happy with these radios but after only 2 months of very light use one of the radios failed. One of the radios is stuck in "busy" mode and thus it is basically useless (these units are manufactured in China).

My experience with Audiovox in the past has been good so I thought I was just unlucky so I went ahead and bought the "Audiovox GMRS6000-2PK 6-Mile GMRS 2-Way Radio Twin Pack with Bonus Package" which I have also reviewed so head over to that review to read the conclusion of my ordeal.

Uhg! What junk! When I was a kid 40 years ago, the walkie-talkies we played with were better than this junk. My son got this as a gift from the g-parents if I recall right, some 4 years ago. The charger is poor to say the least, and the unit is very difficult for a kid to understand how to use it properly. When you can get it to charge, it always takes awhile to figure the thing out again. Do not buy this junk.

Accessory Power GG-FLEX-BERRY BlackBerry FM Transmitter & Car Charger Mount Flex Pod All in One Car

Accessory Power GG-FLEX-BERRY BlackBerry FM Transmitter & Car Charger Mount Flex Pod All in One Car Kit
  • Advanced Car Mount System charges your BlackBerry from the cigarette outlet.
  • Built-in cutting edge FM Transmitter at 88.1-107.0 MHz delivers hi-quality music through your car stereo.
  • 360 degrees rotating Flexible Neck holds your BlackBerry securely.
  • BlackBerry hands-free conversations through car speaker system.
  • Suitable for all BlackBerry models.

In theory, this is a cool gadget, but I'm not sure it's worth the money. (I use it for my BB Curve 8900 from T-mobile.) My top 3 "LIKES" is that my BB fits snugly in the holster, I can charge other devices using the USB plug, and I can now talk hands-free. My top 4 "DISLIKES" is that I have to turn the phone upside down in order for the USB port not to be blocked by the cradle, when I put the phone in the cradle, it sometimes depresses the voice dial button, the FM Transmitter is weak so if I want to listen to my music on my phone I will just use the speakerphone option, and because my cigarette lighter is low, I tend to bump into it when I shift the car into park. I will still continue using it, but it wasn't as awesome as I hoped it would be.

This is the second one of these I have purchased. It seems that they are inconsistent with the manufacturing of this device. They have a flexible neck so you can orient them whichever way you choose, however, the first one would flex and stay where you put it whereas the second one just popped back to the straight position. Not too useful there. Also, the output cord is fairly short and over time, it breaks due to being overflexed too much. This second unit I bought has a lot of noise as well in the output. Lastly, they seemed to have changed the cigarette lighter connector as this one is much shorter and doesn't easily make contact with my lighter socket since it's way down in the channel. I have to constantly push it in place. This is more of a band-aid product for me until I get a new car that has an auxiliary input but I'm very frustrated with it.

Gave it 4 out of 5 only because it was not fully assembled on arrival. The 2 small nuts and bolts that retain the fuse holder were rolling around loose inside the case. Lucky they were both inside and by removing the end cap on the unit I was able to complete the assembly. Very happy with the way it works now. It's very quiet and cool running. It powers a 90watt laptop adapter and a GPS nonstop 10 to 16 hours at a stretch. Also with my old inverter my laptop battery would get very warm to the touch. Not so with this one battery stays cool and charged. F.Y.I. ran a #12 wire with inline 15 amp fuse from my battery to the power socket in the dash on my truck trying to help my old inverter function better so I continued to use the socket plug on this new one instead of hard wiring it to the battery.

Ramsond® 20 Watt 20W W Solar Panel Module 12V Nominal Output RV Boat Battery Charger Charging Trick

RamsondĀ® 20 Watt 20W W Solar Panel Module 12V Nominal Output RV Boat Battery Charger Charging Trickle BoatGreat product does exactly what I need It to do. I use this and a sunshield to keep my tractor battery charged during the cold months so I do not have to jump it or charge it prior to the times I need to use it.

This is a nice panel that upon voltmeter assessment in full sun, actually slightly exceeded the amperage rating by the manufacturer. The open circuit voltage (Voc) is also at the rated voltage. The build quality appears to be good with the exception of the sealing of the panel on the back side. The original panel I ordered actually was not sealed in the back at all. I sent it back for a replacement, which they did with a free return shipping label as it was defective. However, the replacement panel also had a poor quality silicon sealant job done on the 4 sides on the back of the panel where the white tedlar backing joined the aluminum frames. I just caulked it myself as I didn't want water intrusion over time. I was also tired of returning a panel that only cost me 65 bucks including shipping.

Overall a good buy for the money. They could do better with the quality control. I anticipate it will hold up well overall, however and it has a 25 year output warranty.

I wonder how I've gotten by in the past without this device. I have two children and both are into electronic gear of all kinds and this device has kept their laptops and DVD players powered up during long drives on the Interstate. There is a small motor with a cooling fan at the bottom. Perhaps the best endorsement I can make about this product is that it has been used extensively since being purchased while on vacation (it immediately ended the squabbling between the two little ones jockeying for laptop time) two years ago. There are not too many electronic devices that last that long in my experience, particularly around kids. It is easy and intuitive to use and my eight year old daughter can set it up on her own when on a trip to play DVDs on her laptop. This device will run for 8 to 10 hours when required, and has been completely troublefree to date (two years ownership).

I ordered this so that I could charge my GPS, phone, and MP3 player at the same time.

Unfortunately it didn't make it past the GPS. I plugged the product into my car's cigarette lighter and the fan kicked on, but as soon as I plugged my GPS into the cigarette lighter port, it blew the fuse to my car's cigarette lighter. I had to replace the fuse which involved a trip to an auto-parts store and digging through my car's manual. CyberPower's customer support told me over the phone that I had a faulty unit and to return it immediately, which I did. I opted for a refund rather than an exchange because I wasn't going to risk any harm to my car at the cost of an accessory that I can live without.

For the approximately 20 seconds that I had this product running before plugging in my GPS, I noticed the cooling fan was quite loud. I could have lived with it, but my initial reaction was disappointment and that the constant hum would get annoying. I'd probably only use the inverter when I absolutely had to power more than one thing at a time, rather than keeping it plugged in constantly so the ports were available at any time, as I'd hoped.

On the plus side, the product's design is slim and sleek, easily fitting a cup holder or tucked away in an open compartment.

I gave 2/5 stars for a potentially handy product that has a noisy fan and is a little pricey in my opinion. My score assumes that most of these products work, but acknowledges that there's still a small risk of blowing a fuse in your car, which is more than I care to deal with.

First of all, I work in a van and have 4 cup holders and this does not fit in any of them well but I have found out that just leaving it on the floor by my drivers side forks fine cause It wont move so far cause the cord is so short... I wonder by the design if it was "really" supposed to be that style of adapter? ( LOL) The reason I say that is because the exhaust fan is on the bottom which would tend to get quite hot if it did fit well in a cup holder. But...It does get the job done and do exactly what I bought it for and I had some promotional vouchers to use so the price was right but I am sure if you look around there are better suited products for your needs... By me having only one cigarette outlet in my entire van that seats 8 this lets me free that one up as well as have an extra one and a 1 amp powered usb plug so that it will charge most all of my usb devices well... It is built of higher quality materials so it should last long? Only time will tell but It was the cheapest I could find for the design I originally intended for. I suppose I could go a little out of my way and "custom" mount it but It works fine as it is and when the time comes I will do so.. Not much more to say but that it works great but just not quite as what I thought it would be.. I LOVE amazon though! They ship everything I buy from them quickly and if I have ever had a dispute about ANYTHING, they have handled it well! Thanks Amazon!

Want CyberPower CPS150CHU 150W Mobile Power Inverter with USB Charger - Cup Holder-Black Discount?

My wife and I do a fair amount of long distance traveling by car. We purchased the Mobile Power Inverter to allow the passenger to use our laptop without worrying about battery life or lengthy recharging.

On our first trip, the unit worked as specified. The laptop behaved exactly as it does when plugged into a normal wall outlet. The USB port is also a great convenience if you don't have a car charger for your cell phone, etc.

There are only two "negatives." The unit has a cooling fan that is at little noisy, but is usually drowned out at highway speeds. Also, This unit does not work properly off the car battery alone, that is, the engine must be running to provide sufficient power.

Also, we tried the unit in our Prius hybrid and it worked just fine.

makes too much noise and plug will not SNAP in and stay.

it is ok for the price though.

I was talking with my bro who was at my house and i was at my parent's 1.9 miles as crow flies. There was static yet understandable. It's not a clear view of my house. There are a couple small hills and one apartment complex between us and power lines right by my house. I could only hear him when i went in the backyard. Not as good as I hoped but probably as good as it gets with a 100 dolar set. Im looking forward to trying them in the desert. 5 stars for what they cost and the nice features. :)

The boom mic provided does not pickup voice contact unless held directly in front of your mouth. This product is only submersible if the mic tab is in place. It is very hard to fully seat to accomplish that. All othe operations work fine, but only as a hand held radio.

as advertised. range 0.5 mi in town (tested) but not surprising. Physical obstacles reduce range.

Stand up to being submerged just make sure the headset plug is lodged tight.

headsets and VOX is semi useless, I can't get it to have the right sensitivity.

Bought these for hiking, so these fit the bill.

They work great, durable, well built. As with all radio waves, obstructions drastically reduce range. that being said, I live in the city (no skyscrapers) and I can talk to my wife at home 3.6 miles away. with all the houses, businesses, trees, hills. great buy. Not too much technology, not too much money.

This is a good 2-way radio that works in all weather conditions and it is not afraid of rain or snow. The radio has a large number of combinations between channels and privacy codes which allows you to talk only to the intended party.

The sound from the loudspeaker is a bit muffled and metallic but this is because this radio can float in water. The additonal level of protection requires some compromises.

The radio is virtually useless if one or both of the parties are in buildings even only a couple of miles away. The limitations of power output may prevent you from connecting. I have not tested the radio outdoors at large distances and direct visibility with no obstructions.

It was easy to obtain a GMRS license from FCC online. The cost is $85 for a 5-year license. The original license was mailed to me.

Magellan RoadMate 1200 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Magellan RoadMate 1200 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
  • Magellan RoadMate 1200 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
  • Pre-loaded with maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico

  • Rechargeable battery lets you Navigate for up to 3 hours when power is unavailable.
  • 1.3 million pre-programmed POIs make it easy to find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, coffee and more.

Don't get me wrong I know this is a very feature limited unit and I am one of those people who can find their way around just about anywhere without a paper map. I have a built in compass and can get the feel and layout of a metro area in less than a day, so I was pretty skeptical about the utility of these devices. boy was I wrong. Without a doubt its pretty useless, for instance, on I-95 going from New York to Miami its pretty hard to get lost on one thousand miles of straightaway, but the great thing about this is when you have to go off path. Everyone would prefer to skip the roadside gas stations and pull off into Florence a couple miles to find gas at local retail as opposed to full pit-stop price, or how about a better meal than McDonald's, maybe your wife would prefer to stay at a seaside hotel in Savannah instead of the Motel-6 along the interchange? You don't have to worry about getting lost or detoured by unfamiliar terrain anymore. No more missed turns, looping round-abouts, one way dead ends. Sure, you still have to use your common sense with the gadget, but the only time I missed my destination was when I failed to make the turn it recommended because it didn't look right. This small, low feature unit is all you need and by the way the screen has tremendous zoom in out ability. If you have a trip coming up BUY ONE TODAY!

I bought the Magellan Roadmate GPS because the viaMichellin I had owned for 4 months stopped working. They would not repair it so I went to a name I can trust, Magellan. My unit has performed without a flaw and I highly reccommend it to anyone. It gives me the instructions at least 2 miles in advance of a turn. On a freeway at 75 mph this is very important. The unit is light and the screen s ery easy to read. I love it!

Really frustrating that Magellan makes it so hard to open case. No screws, case sealed. Can't access battery, which would be like $12.00 on ebay to replace. Otherwise when working the unit was often irritatingly slow and incorrect.

Update: you can open, rubber plugs cover up screws. Problem was USB port broke on the inside. Will up my rating a bit. And buy a solderer.

I have been using the Magellan RoadMate 1200 for over a year. I find it to be the equal of the NeverLost GPS supplied in Hertz Car Rentals. In more than 5 years of using that system, I have never been lost in many locations in the USA. I liked the 1200 so much, I bought one as a gift for my daughter. She loves it too.

I received this product as a wedding gift. It is portable, takes a while to update maps and stopped charging after a year. Not what I was expecting after a year of use. When I called the help desk, I was told since I didn't have a receipt and it was over a year (2 weeks over a year), I would have to buy a new product. They offered a preferred "loyalty" program, which for the same price as a new device you can get a refurbished model, some "loyalty" program. I don't use it everyday, just when needed, so it could have broke before a year, and I just didn't know. Spend the extra money and get a better unit.
