Generac 5847 XG8000E 8,000 Watt 410cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit & Electric S

Generac 5847 XG8000E 8,000 Watt 410cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit & Electric StartThis is an outstanding product that was just put to the test last week. I was able to power my essentials (2 Fridges, lights, furnace, well pump, sump pump, tv, dvd, 2 cooking plates, crock pot, and my neighbors furnance, and never exceeded 50% load. We usually ran at 20% making my effeciency much higher. I actually got 20 hour run times on one tank of gas (9 gallons). The only time I stopped running this machine was to fill it with gas, and change the oil. This is a great, reliable, effecient, reliable, powerful, reliable unit. Did I mention it was reliable?

After living without power for a week after Tropical Storm Irene last year and since more violent weather seems to be the new normal I decided it was time to buy a generator big enough to power the major systems in my house (boiler, well pump, appliances, lights, ...). I did TONS of research and was sorely tempted by the flood of cheap, Chinese-made machines out there, but I decided that sacrificing quality and access to parts and service just to save a few hundred bucks on the purchase price was not a smart trade-off. What good is having a generator if you can't trust it to work in an emergency? Generac manufactures its generators in the US and designs their own engines specifically for generator duty. They have a comprehensive web site where you can get information on usage, maintenance, and parts.

Well, I'm glad I bought the Generac 5847! It shipped fast and was well packed in its carton. All parts and documentation were in the box as expected, and it was easy to install the wheels and fill it with oil and gas. Generac includes the oil, plus a maintenance kit including an extra oil filter, air filter, spark plug, plug wrench, and even a paper funnel and a couple of paper shop towels nice! You also get a trickle charger that you can plug into the wall to keep the generator battery topped up and ready to go (and of course when the generator is running, you can plug the charger into one of the 120v outlets on the generator). This thing is built tough, too the bright orange tube frame is seriously beefy, and the motor-generator combo is mounted on big rubber isolators. I also like that it has a proper spin-on oil filter, a feature missing from most portable generators.

I tugged the choke lever, pushed the start switch and VROOM the gennie fired right up! I also tried starting it using the pull cord and found that it started in one easy pull. Then I plugged in a couple of tools and lights just to test that the outlets were hot, and the generator didn't even notice. The noise level is about what I expected: it's a gas engine, after all, so it ain't silent, but it's on par with other generators I've heard, not to mention other gas-engine powered tools I have. And as usual for portable generators, this one is not weather-proof, so I'll be making a shed for it. I also plan to wire up a waterproof twist lock receptacle on the outside of my house and properly connect it into my house's load center no back-feeding through the clothes dryer receptacle for me!

I bought the Generac XG8000E after experiencing two week long power outages this fall (Hurricane Irene and the freak Halloween snow storm). After waiting to get my transfer switch installed I finally decided to power up the Generac to test out the wiring and circuits. I was disappointed to find that the Generac was very difficult to start. I think the problem is there is no gas prime bulb. I put in only one gallon of gas at first and tried for an hour to start the thing. I disconnected the fuel line filter to see that gas was flowing pass the gas cutoff switch it checked out OK. Then I tried to pour gas into the fuel line still didn't start. Finally I emptied my 2.5 gal gas can into the Generac and then it started after several more attempts. So if you buy a Generac put lots of gas in the tank in order to use the gravity of the gas to help prime the carburetor. And hey Generac put a primer bulb on your gas line! And also put a sticker on the gas tank to tell owners to fill the gas tank when starting.

Generac has the worse attitude about customer service and support that I have ever encountered. The generator (once it is fixed and working) probably is a 4 or 5 like many others have rated it. Over all I give them a 2. If your generator works correctly on arrival (based on reviews most seem to), you will probably be very happy with it.

If you buy a Generac generator, you should be aware that Generac's response to warranty issues is dismally slow. Their written warranty does not cover needed adjustments, even if your new unit arrives out of adjustment. (The output of mine was only 100 volts on arrival.) If you do not have the means to get the 250+ pound unit to a repair dealer, Generac's warranty does not cover pickup and delivery of the unit. You cannot return it to Amazon once it has had gas in it, which I knew when I ordered it.

After three frustrating weeks of emails, phone calls and slow responses, I finally got Generac to cover the $80 repair cost and the $55 pickup and delivery charge. Their attitude was that according to their written warranty it was my responsibility to pay another $135 to get the defective product working the first time. A detailed time line follows, if you are interested...

02-January-2013

My brand new generator arrived on December 28. The shipping box was in perfect shape and there was no visible damage to the unit. I was able to test it for the first time over the weekend and found that it only delivered 100 volts and the frequency was only 58 Hz, with no load. As per instructions, I contacted Generac and was given the name of a service dealer. The service dealer was very nice but they require a deposit to look at the unit, which they will return when and if Generac approves the warranty repair. The service dealer warned me that it sometimes takes 4 weeks for Generac to authorize the repair.

I also have to get the 250+ pound unit to the service dealer or pay the service dealer to pick it up from my house and Generac will not cover the pickup charge under warranty.

I contacted Generac a second time and told them that this was not an acceptable solution for a purchase that was not working correctly upon arrival. The representative told me that none of the incident escalation people were available and that I could submit an incident form electronically. I've submitted an incident form to Generac. We'll see if they resolve this quickly. If so, I may raise my rating.

I cannot return it to Amazon since it has had oil and gas in it. Plus, I had to cut the shipping carton apart to put the wheels on and roll it out (far too heavy to lift). Checkout the return policy before you order.

Update 08-January-2013

Here is the response I received from Generac in response to the incident form I filed:

"Thank you for contacting Generac, my name is (removed) and I will be your case coordinator. I apologize for the failure of your generator, however Generac unfortunately cannot pre-approve a repair as the repairs needs to be diagnosed as a manufacturing defect in order to qualify for warranty coverage. In order for warranty to cover the repairs, the issue would need to first be diagnosed by a certified service dealer as a manufacturing defect. Not all service dealers require a deposit and if you would like to contact some additional dealers, I have included a list below. If the service dealer does request a deposit before working on the unit, that deposit should be returned if the issue is found to be a warrantable item. As for the travel expense, I apologize for the inconvenience, but the product warranty only covers parts and labor for the repair, with transportation being the responsibility of the consumer. Once again, I apologize for the failure you've experienced and if you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me back."

Basically it is my responsibility to get the DOA unit to a repair dealer. I do not think this is very good customer service for a generator that did not work correctly the first time it was started.

Update 24-January-2013

It has been almost a month since my generator was defective on arrival.

I managed to get Generac to agree to be responsible for the $55 fee for the service dealer to pickup and return my generator. The service dealer picked it up on January 14. They told me on the 18th that the repair should be under warranty and that they were waiting for Generac to respond. I contacted Generac on the 18th and was told that they were waiting for something from the dealer. The dealer gave me the claim numbers showing that Generac acknowledged receipt on the 17th. I do not understand what Generac needs from the dealer.

There was still no word from Generac as of yesterday, the 23rd. I emailed Generac yesterday and told them if I did not receive confirmation by today that my claim had been resolved I would submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

I just do not understand how a company can be so slow to get a product that was defective on delivery fixed. Are they so backed up with warranty claims that it takes weeks to approve one after it is submitted by one of their recommended service dealers?

Update 25-January-2013

It got worse before it got better. My Generac Case Coordinator called me shortly after noon yesterday. He explained that the repair was just an adjustment to the governor that regulates the speed and that adjustments were not covered under the Generac warranty because they were not "manufacturing defects." He said that I should read their written warranty (wish I knew all of this before ordering). I explained that I would not accept this since the generator produced low voltage the first time I started it and as far as I was concerned it was a manufacturing defect since it never worked correctly. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me that he was a manager. I asked to speak to his supervisor and was told that he probably could not get back to me that day. After making it clear that I would be filing a Better Business Bureau complaint, if his supervisor did not contact me that day and agree that Generac would cover the repair, we ended the call.

The Case Coordinator called back about 20 minutes later and told me that Generac would pay the $80 for the repair plus the $55 for pickup and delivery of the generator. Hopefully the service dealer will be able to deliver it to my house today (they are really nice people but are a small operation).

well, to start off, this product looks pretty cool. But when i received it, i charged it up and all the LED's lit up and when i held the side button, the flash light would come on. But if this product isn't plugged in the charger, IT WILL NOT WORK! this defeats the whole purpose of a "portable back up" battery. I tried many different ways on how to turn it on, i tried pushing both at the same time, tried the buttons separately, tried double clicking, it would not turn on unless plugged in its charger!

Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB Port

Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB Port
  • Powers and charges various mobile electronics: laptops, netbooks, smart phones, MP3 players, tablet PCs, e-Readers, cameras and more
  • Convenient design fits into the vehicle's cupholder
  • High quality cooling technology reduces perceived noise level by up to 50 percentage versus competitive products
  • Can simultaneously charge three devices through the included AC outlet, DC outlet and USB 2.1 amp port
  • Upgraded 2.1 amp USB port provides the high level of power for iPads, e-Readers and other power hungry electronics

Overall this is a great little charger. My favorite feature would definitely have to be the DC plug since my car only has 1, and I don't have to buy another splitter to power other devices.

For powering a laptop, the AC plug works great.

The main reason I bought it was to power a HP Touchpad, which apparently the 2.1amp USB plug still has trouble doing.

The only other complaint I would have about it is that the fan makes a quiet ticking noise. It's just loud enough to hear; if it were more like a fan noise I wouldn't have an issue with it.

I initially was looking for an inverter with an extra 12V power outlet because I have a Soundfly Car FM Transmitter for SD card/USB/MP3 in my older car (which lacks an Aux input on the stereo), and the Soundfly occupies the 12V outlet all the time. Finding such an inverter which ALSO has a USB power port, and a 2.1A high-powered one at that, was a huge bonus. And the cup-holder form factor is very convenient. This product is brilliant; absolutely, totally perfect, or it WOULD be... And that brings us to some of the minor drawbacks.

For one thing, there is no On/Off switch on the inverter. My car never turns off its 12V socket, key in the ignition or no key. The Duracell inverter theoretically will disengage if the car battery gets low, but I'd rather not find out. That means remembering to unplug the thing every time so as not to leave the inverter circuits constantly live on the battery, which greatly lessens its convenience.

For another thing, the USB port is supposed to be a high-current 2.1A variety. However, my iPad2 doesn't seem to charge at full speed on it. The iPad SAYS it's charging, and the charge percentage doesn't go down, but then, it doesn't really go up, either.

Another minor complaint, the inverter fan generates a faint ticking buzz. It's enough to be irritating if you're sitting in the parking lot listening to something quiet, but luckily, once you're underway, the fan is easily masked by engine and road noise. I rarely notice it, and honestly, the Duracell is much quieter than the last inverter I owned.

(Also, there is only one of each kind of port. One 12V, one AC, one USB. For me this is perfect, but if you need, say, multiple USB charge ports, you might need to go a different way.)

I have addressed these concerns by: Ignoring the fan noise. Using my iPad on the USB port, and not worrying about whether it's charging at full speed or not. (If my iPad is REALLY low and I need it to definitely charge FAST, I can always plug its own little white charger into the AC outlet on the inverter. Shouldn't have to do that, but it works.) And finally, I installed a heavy duty lamp cord switch on the inverter's 12V power feed wire, so I can leave the unit plugged in in my car but turn it on and off. Thus voiding the product warranty, but for me, the increase in usefulness was worth it.

Overall, this is a highly useful gadget, I use it every day and am glad it's there every day.

This is a great little inverter for the money. It doesn't get 5 stars because of one very big problem--if you leave it plugged in, it will run your battery down if your vehicle continues to send power to the cigarette lighter even when the key is turned off. Luckily for me, this happened to me in a nice, heated garage, and I had another vehicle with jumper cables handy. Since then, I have been very careful about unplugging it every time I get out of the car. The cupholder shape fits perfectly into my car's cupholder. I love the fact that it has 3 outlets--(1) 12v outlet, (1) 120v outlet, and (1) usb charger port. I can charge my phone, listen to my mp3 player (powered by 12v), and run my GPS off the wall charger all at the same time. When I was researching to buy this unit, I spent a lot of time looking for one similar to this. There are cheaper and less expensive units out there. Very few had the size, power, and function of this unit. It's been great so far. It's never overheated (yet), and it is so quiet, I can't even hear it running, even with the car turned off. When I bought this, it was about $40.

Road trips these days are a perpetual electronic negotiation. Do we pack the "travel kit" for the phones, or will the batteries last until we get there? Is the USB cable for the player enough? How about the spare battery for the laptop?

This inverter takes out the guesswork. It will accept all three kinds of connection USB, wall outlet (grounded, even), and "cigarette lighter" and let you use and charge electronic devices in your car.

The device is very well designed. The "wall outlet" has enough space around it to accommodate oddly-shaped plugs. The cord is long enough to put a laptop in the back seat, and plug into the dash. And, joy of joys, the thing is designed to fit into the cupholder (with enough clearance around it to let the fan in the bottom of the device have airflow).

As a road test, I charged an iPhone (via the cigarette lighter outlet), a regular cell phone (via the wall-type outlet), and a Sansa MP3 player (via the USB) simultaneously. They all charged about as quickly as I would expect from a normal connection, with no problems. After 40 minutes in a warm car the inverter was very slightly warm to the touch, but not enough for the cooling fan built into the bottom of the device to go on (I expect it will when one is charging a laptop. And I wouldn't attach a washing machine to this, if you should somehow want to run one on the highway).

Our Suburu Forester has another lighter-outlet inside the center armrest, with a small compartment next to it for on-the-road electronics (I also recommend the Forester). This device will be living there.

I've been driving around with this Duracell DRINVC130 130W Power Inverter with 2.1 Amp USB Port in my car for a few days now. So far, so good. I've charged a cell phone using the AC outlet, iPod using the USB port, and GPS using the CD outlet. I had no problems fitting any of the various cords into their respective outlets or with the cords staying in place, including the connection with my vehicle's power outlet.

The cylindrical shape fits into the cupholder as designed, which is a nice convenience and which makes access to the plugs easy. So far, this power inverter is quiet and cool, but none of the other inverters I have tried became warm or made any sound either (though both quit working after about a year).

The plastic seems thin and prone to shattering if dropped on a driveway or garage floor. The thin plastic around the various outlets seems another place that could be prone to splitting or splintering after prolonged use. So far, though, neither has proven a problem, the unit continues working well, and it performs as describes, so I upgraded my original rating to 4 stars (9/27/11).

The packaging is supposedly "green," which I think means we are not supposed to feel guilty for buying something that uses more cardboard than needed and prints instructions on the front of a legal-sized sheet of paper instead of on the front and back of a sheet half this size. (Furthermore, the instructions and warranty information could easily be edited by a third or more just by using the active voice.)

There is a three-year "limited" warranty, but as with most products, having to hold onto a dated sales receipt during that time can prove a challenge.

CTEK 56-382 Comfort Indicator Eyelet

CTEK 56-382 Comfort Indicator Eyelet
  • Quick connect
  • Popular Mechanic's Editors Choice Product 2008
  • See your battery
  • Shows battery condition also during the summer
  • Traffic light for battery condition

The CTEK line of lead acid automotive battery chargers is built around a comparatively high quality interconnect between the charger cord and the battery. Ctek uses a quality socket for this purpose with an o-ring gasket to prevent water infiltration and a rubber cover that keeps foreign matter out. This is in stark contrast to other battery charger systems with rings or alligator clips which use just a 2 terminal plug, one being insulated and one being exposed metal. After one season of weather these tend to corrode due to the 12V between them and the ability for water to get into the connector without any gaskets.

Fortunately CTEK adopted their quality gasketed interface across all products, and included some unique features along the way. All chargers use one gender and all batteries or things to be charged use a the opposite gender with a rubber cap to protect it when the charger is disconnected. The interface features a snap to hold the two halves together .

For connecting to the battery they make 6, 8 and 10 mm rings, alligator clips, and 2 very special connectors, this being one of them. The second special connector is the CTEK 56-380 Comfort Indicator Panel. Both this input which terminates in 8mm rings and the 56-380 which snaps into most import dash DIN outlets providing you with a convenient place to plug in your CTEK charger (any model) include a blinking (about 1 blink/second) red-yellow-green LED which indicates the present battery level.

How do they do it? For Lead Acid (and also other lead chemistry including SLA, lead calcium, and optima batteries) the standardized test is to charge a battery and desulphate if needed (CTEK has a patented charging system which includes desulphating pulses). Second, the battery is allowed to rest for 24 hours with no charging and no load on the cell. After 24 hours resting a voltage measurement is made which determines how "full" the battery is. The simple rule of thumb (and this is by no means perfect) is that 12.00VDC means the battery is dead while 12.80 means the battery is 100% charged. The scale between 12.00 and 12.80 is roughly linear allowing the observer to determine the state of charge to a rough degree of certainty assuming a linear relationship. 12.40 volts after 24 hours of non-use would indicate the battery is 50% charged and would blink the yellow LED on the 3 LED display. Over 12.5V usually blinks the green LED and below 12.3V blinks the Red indicating you would be wise to charge now.

The only difference in this part of the CTEK system and the one I purchased is the form factor. This accessory does everything mine does but it is for battery systems without a din standard dash (where you would use the 56-380 panel mount charge jack and indicator) here the indicator and charge jack are in a "blob" at the end of 55 cm of cable designed to be wired to the battery. All CTEK features and quality are designed into this accessory.

I didn't really plan on buying this but after my GPS got stolen it seemed a better option to use my phone with mount rather than buying a whole new GPS. Pricier than the universal mounts but worth it at the $28.50 price one seller has it for, which I think is what the original retail price was projected to be. Unlike with the universal mounts no controls or inputs/outputs are blocked. I was pleasantly surprised with all the pivot points available. There isn't an angle this thing couldn't achieve. My only real complaint, which I assumed to be the case before I bought it, is that you can't use a case with it. I can't stand belt clip holsters so I'm just going without a case, and it easily comes out of said holster, maybe easier than taking the whole thing off.

All in all you're not going to find a better mount for the Incredible, but whether it's worth the price difference between the alternatives is arguable, but I think it is. If you prefer using your own case and don't mind limited access to controls then this mount probably isn't for you.

A word of advice: If you plan on using the Incredible as your primary GPS you'll probably want to invest in a car adapter. They can be found pretty cheap on Amazon

EDIT: It was brought to my attention and have verified the audio jack is blocked when using the holster

Buy OEM verizon HTC droid incredible 2-in-1 windshield/dashboard car mount with detachable swivel clip h Now

The quality of the mount is good. There is plenty of articulation to get any angle you could need. The suction cup is made of a soft material and there is a lever to pull the mount/suction cup up tight to whatever surface you have it attached to. There is also a smooth disk with a tape backing so this can be mounted to dashes or other places that the suction cup would usually not stick to. The holster, however, is a completely different story. The holster is nice in the fact that you can get to all of the controls and the phone clips in and releases from the holster fairly easily but it should hold well enough to keep the phone in place when in the car. That being said, in less than one week the belt clip on the holster broke. The clip had been used one time to clip the phone to my pocket and had never even seen a belt but, unfortunately, the clip is what attaches the holster to the mount. I honestly do not care about using the holster since I usually keep the phone in my pocket. After a little modification the holster was permanently glued to the mount effectively eliminating the problem. If the holster was built a little better or if it was designed like mine is currently configured it would have been a full five stars.

I tried other car mounts to use with the Droid Incredible but none of them held the phone well and some of them would touch the screen and make the phone inoperable. I purchased this because it was specifically designed for the Incredible. The dash mount works great. I have never tried the belt clip I do not like the phone on the hip thing.

I love this...... I am planning on picking up a couple of extras on clearance. The base is great. The holster / case hods and protect the phone. I love the form factor.

I hate it...... I am on my Third Mount. The belt clip is too brittle. I have broken two of them in the same place. Verizon has replaced both of them on warranty. The first break was my fault the second break happened when I was trying to mount it to a window and it fell due to lack of suction and broke in a minor fall. TOO BRITTLE.

Again all in all I will be picking up a couple of them because I have grown to love it even though it is made of glass. I anticipate that they will break a couple of more times and I will use my extras as back ups. PS I love the Phone.

A positive and great experience with this seller. Exactly what I ordered and the price was amazing!! I have had about 5 or 6 of these Car Mounts Combos for my Droid -they all broke. They're plastic so if you really use them (and I do!!) for hands-free while driving they eventually will snap and crack (from being in the sun mounted to the dash or windshield). So to find them at this price for replacements was just wonderful! I would highly recommend this seller -my item was exactly as described and have enjoy it and their customer service! Great and best seller, Amazon! Happy Holidays!

Instapark® NEW All Black 5W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel with 12V Solar Charge Controller

Instapark® NEW All Black 5W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel with 12V Solar Charge ControllerThis solar panel combo is a solar panel plus a charge controller plus clamps all preassembled and ready to go. Set it out in the sun, attach the clamps to a meter, and you should get what I got 20V at .3 amps. My panel came in good condition inside a solid cardboard box within another box. Your mileage may vary. I am pleased with the construction overall, but it does not look overly rugged. You won't want to casually toss it around too much, but it should mount nicely to a solid surface. The aluminum frame has mounting holes on the back, but the clearance is very limited.

I have a Brunton foldable solar panel that cost ten times as much and only puts out 3 times the amps (same voltage).

I will be buying a larger Instapark product in the future. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

This is a pretty good little solar panel. I bout this to keep the battery on my camper topped off while not being used.

The Good: Panel performs as expected. In full bright sun I measured around 350mA at about 20V (7 Watts!) The size is nice and small (about the size of a sheet of paper) as compared to the amorphous panels which are much larger for the same wattage. The cable from the panel's junction box to the charge controller is nice and long.

Th Not So Good: The cover for the junction box on the back doesn't quite seal all the way around on mine. I put a small bead of caulk around it. Also the charge controller does NOT appear weatherproof. As a matter of fact it has a USB port on the side of it that is not sealed. My solution was to encase it in a weatherproof electrical box and run the wires out from there. Also, the clamps are small. Finally, the thickness of the frame is very small which makes mounting with the moutning holes challenging.

Overall though, I like this panel and would buy it again.

Appears to be very well made and a good value for the price except for the clamps. The clamps are too small for the products intended use and tinny. I easily destroyed one of the clamps when trying to grip the 12v battery pole. I cut the original clamps off and replaced them with the appropriate clamps I purchased at Radio Shack.

SOLAR PANEL: This panel is very well made, reliable, and seems quite weatherproof. It puts out the full 5 watts in bright sunlight. I put some silicone caulk where the wire exits the back of the panel, just to be safe.

CHARGE CONTROLLER: The housing is definitely not weatherproof, but it does work properly. Some reviewers reported rusted connectors. Mine arrived without any rust. I created a battery box for an electric fence. The solar panel is mounted on top of the box, and the solar charge controller is inside the box with the battery and the fence energizer (protected from weather).

Don't use it with a large panel (as one reviewer did), because it's only designed to take a small current. It is rated for only 3 amps. 3 amps x 12 volts = 36 watts. So ... don't hook up more than 36 watts of 12-volt solar panels to this charger.

Another reviewer said the charger allows the battery to discharge into the solar panel at night. That's not really true. I did many tests and figured out what is going on. There is a green "Power" LED light on the charge controller. That light is on whenever it is connected to the battery. That light draws about 5 milli-amps from the battery at night, which is negligible. During the day, the solar panel powers the green LED.

So ... when the solar panel gets no power from the sun, electricity flows from the battery to the green LED. But that is the only draw on the battery. I tested it, and there is no current flowing into the solar panel from the battery. The 5 milli-amp draw is minimal, and really has no effect on the battery at all. Consider that during bright sunlight, the panel pours about 400+ milli-amps into the battery. Even that amount is just considered a "trickle" charge.

I put a blocking diode (1N4001) between the battery and the charge controller, which even blocks the 5 milli-amp discharge at night. Now the green "Power" light only comes on when the panel gets light.

I also verified that the charge controller stops charging the batter when it reaches about 13 volts. That protects the battery from being over-charged.

Hope this helps.

Solar panel looks great, except its the wrong one (2 oval solar tabs vs the rectangular tabs displayed in the picture). The back of the housing says 22V instead of 12V . I'll test out the amps as soon as I get a new fuse for my multimeter to see if its actually putting out 5 watts.

The charge controller on the other hand, obviously came overseas from China by boat. The small Ziploc bag it came in had a substantial amount of rust in it. The 6 terminals on the controller are completely rusted, and reduced the voltage from 11.3V to 2.1V after connecting it. I'll need to do some serious cleaning to get the rust off and see if its salvageable, but I would suggest ordering the panel without the charge controller, its not worth the $12 price difference.

Edit: I spent about 30 minutes cleaning the terminals (Put them over the tip of some pliers and scraped the rust off with a box cutter). Im now getting 21.5 volts straight from the panel, and 20.0 after connected to the charge controller. I talked to our electrical engineer at work and found out solar panels dont put out any amps on their own ("You need resistance to have amps"), but after connecting the panel to a battery, I was getting 20V at .19 amps, or 3.8 watts. He also said if the controller is doing its job, the 22V panel shouldnt fry the 12V battery during charging.

  • Rechargeable NiMH battery operate up to 9 hours
  • Advanced voice activation for hands-free operation

This is a decieving radio. You need a business FCC license for it so you must apply for it and state your business need for these radio's. Its better to stick with GMRS or FRS unless you want to violate FCC R&R and use them for non-business use. There are FCC listeners everywhere that monitor the use of these frequencies and I have returned these radios and switched to GMRS. The claim that you have a 4 to 5 mile range is in perfect conditions, using these radios for the short time I had them gave me only minimal range increase from my FRS radios I've previously used. Range is dependent on the antennae and battery strength.

Spirit® Professional two-way radios operate on business

I bought these radios online a few years ago. Have used it since for weddings, road trips, ski trips, camping, vacation, cruises and in hotel rooms. The radio is great with ranges from 1-4 miles depending on the terrain you are in. Just used them up at Lake Tahoe and the range is great! We had friends in the registration lodge as we were on the other side of the mountain and could hear them fine!

Con: I can't tell what other Motorola models are compatible with the "Motorola Spirit GT Professional 2-Way Radio". Wish there was a list somewhere.

Even though the website stated that this cable would fit my specific MP3 player (Samsung YP-K3), it did not fit. The connector was too small. This item was really perfectly fine. I have no problems with it and I still use it to charge my mp3 player.

I like having this for times when I travel or don't have my PC turned on but my Zune needs a charge. It puts out the 5 volts DC which is standard for your PC's USB 1 or 2 port so any device that uses this current to charge itself can use this too. It works with my iRiver, my Razr and my wife's iPod so it is a handy thing to have around. Most places are charging 20% or more for the same product as this, not worth it in my opinion since all it really is, is a power transformer which are cheap for just about any other type of gear you use them for seems having the physical USB plug makes it seem as though it does something "special", it doesn't. This one is priced about right so if you're looking for one, go head and get the Coby.

I purchased this adaptor to replace my missing Apple iPod charger. I needed a charger that I could use internationally, and this one specified an input voltage of 90-246V. The USB end of the dock connecter plugs into the charger (so you can charge other USB-connected device). It worked in the US and in India, but it did seem to electrify the metal on the iPod. It's not enough to really harm you, but I was concerned about the effects on the iPod's internals. I was able to adjust the dock connector until it barely connected to the iPod, at which point the metal was no longer electrified, but still charged the iPod. I know it wasn't a faulty dock connector, because it worked fine when connected to my computer.

12V 4 Ah Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery for DIGITAL SECURITY CONTROLS DSC BD4-12

12V 4 Ah Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery for DIGITAL SECURITY CONTROLS DSC BD4-12I needed this battery for the backup system in my house alarm. I knew that the alarm company charges $70 for a service call, so I decided to see if I could find one for sale. Of course, Amazon came through, and their partner Arrowhead Company also came through. I ordered the battery on Monday, and it arrived ahead of schedule on Wednesday, saving me the price of a service call, and likely a higher price for the battery. If this one lasts as long as the last one, I'll be really happy.

My old battery worked in security system at least five years until yellow light appeared on the touchpad. I ordered this new one, it was shipped pretty fast. I received thing in four days. I connected battery to where it belongs, in few hours yellow light went off... so it works for now. How good this battery will be? I can tell you in five years, just wait a little...

Was happy to find this on Amazon, a visit to our local "electronics superstore" turned up nothing. The battery in our home alarm system was dying (and setting off the alarm every 12 hours, tons of fun). Thankfully this arrived in a few days and did the trick. It took about 12 hours for the "system battery low" warning to stop, I think the system had to reset itself. Oh, and we totally had to get a locksmith to open the alarm box after losing the key. Awesome.

When I opened the package and took out the CD and I noticed it was defective from a visual look. I also noticed the package had been opened previously. When I tried to run the CD it would not run, therefore I could not install the drivers and or video playback software. I called the companies phone number and told them about the CD. I was told to email their customer service and let them know and they would take care of it. Since the 31st of Jan I've sent Three emails to their customer service and I've never received a reply. This item was sold by a merchant using amazon.com and was shipped by that merchant. Their NAME is BrainyDeal. Beware of dealings with this company if you want a good product or service look somewhere else! Since buying this item on Amazon I've found it on Ebay and elsewhere for a much cheaper price. I'm still trying to find the drivers for the camera. Just to much hassle to send it back to a company that won't even respond to customer support emails.

  • A 12V 1 amp internal battery charger with two-stage charger allowing for the charger to be safely connected to the wall outlet indefinitely and fully charged
  • Item is nonreturnable

A great ergonomically designed little jump start unit.

I love the fact that it can be left plugged in perpetually

and will take care of itself. I'm not mechanically inclined

so the less I need to do the better.

The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't come

with a cord to plug into the wall. You have to get a heavy

duty extension cord to connect it to the wall, and they

never tell you that when you are reading the product

description. For the price of this item, I think it should

come with a simple short extension cord.

If it weren't for my All in One, I would have been dead in the water, literally, on Lake Lewisville in Texas. Needless to say, we ran the stereo & fish finder WAY longer than we should have and found ourselves stuck in a cove in the middle of nowhere. We brought the all in one, with the intention of just using it to inflate to tubes for the kids, but the Jump Start feature is what really saved us. I didn't even realize that it had a light on the handle (thank you wife for noticing) but that came in handy too trying to jumpstart a boat in the dusk while mosquitoes were starting to attack! I have since recommended it to many of my co-workers and fishing buddies.

I spent a few weeks researching different jump starters and I wanted something that was easy to use, had a built in float charger, air compressor and was cost effective.

This unit fit the bill and the additional features (plug-ins) is a bonus.

These boxes are basically a battery you charge and use it to start your car when your battery is dead. When you charge batteries you must be careful NOT to overcharge...meaning, you can not just plug them in and leave them until you are ready to use them 1, 2, 9 months later. The overcharge will literally cook the battery and render it useless. Suprisingly there are very few jump boxes on the market with built in float chargers...meaning, when the battery is fully charged it will go into a float mode and trickle charge the battery not overcharge.

I have used this box 5-6 times over the last 4 months and it has performed flawlessly...even started our 2005 Diesel truck and that takes some power!

Agree with many of the other users the box should come with a cord to plug it in...another $10 at the store and the cables could be just a touch longer as it is sometimes difficult getting to a grounded location with the negative cable.

All in all I knew about the need for a power cord and cable length going in and I felt this was the best product for the price...value!

I bought this charger to replace an old charger (Duracell brand) that had worked wonders for me for years...but finally gave out. This Energizer charger works really well and includes an air compressor, with which I topped off all four tires (added 10 psi to each tire...I know I waited too long to inflate them) and it worked like a champ. Only drawback this charger has is it needs an extension cord to charge it (spent less than $10 on a 12ft one from H--D----). This model has a built in sensor to avoid overcharging, so you can leave it plugged in until you need it without overcharging the battery. Very happy with this purchase.

This jump-starter, air compressor, inverter, is of excellent quality and usefulness. As mentioned in other reviews, it would be nice if they included an AC power cord; and possibly a DC power/charging cord for the price. This is a fairly large unit and takes up a large amount of room in a trunk or the back of a station wagon/hatchback. It charges fast and has plenty of reserve power to start our motor home or inflate large tires. Great carry handle.

UPDATE 19 May 2011: The user manual was missing. Now I need it to check something. Item itself is pretty user friendly. Tried to download manual on website from manufacturer (UPGI.com) but no manuals or documents available from support. None available from Energizer. Tried Google. No one has uploaded manual yet. Finally found support 800 number for UPG Inc. which is also a wholesale/retail sales number. Nice lady answered. She took my name, email, telephone, address, etc. Said she would "look around" for one and send it "somehow" if she finds one.

Apparently, this is a "marketing arrangement" where they buy the use of the Energizer name, then import and distribute it.

Design pretty good. Sales-marketing good. Support not so good. Technical support essentially non-existant. Downgraded to two stars. Will post another update if I ever get the manual.

For less than $25.00 it does a nice job. I don't need a camera that costs so much that I fear that it will be stolen or broken. Has a semi wide fish-eye lens. I'm not looking for wedding photo quality, come on its only 25 bucks. Comes with car charger and suction cup mount, not mentioned in the description. Also comes with a cellphone type rechargeable battery. Plugged into the charger, I get over 9 hours of video (with audio) on a 16GB card. VGA quality is 640x480, so stay with that mode, because the other larger sizes that it records (D1, and SVGA) are actually not different at all. The SVGA 1280x720 is the same as the VGA and D1 680x480, but with thick black edges on the sides, video is not sharper. You may want to buy a different smaller sized window mount that has a "ball hinge". The mount that comes with it is somewhat large, but still fine to use. The charger wire is long enough to tuck under window trim and dashboard trim and reach the car's power socket. Not too bad at night time, so see the attached video sample that I made. The camera comes with infrared lights, but I see no use for them unless you are video recording your hood ornament, or if you use this device as a home security monitor inside of your house. Not a bad idea, just buy one of those 120volt wall adapters to plug your charger into, then attach the camera to a window or wall. If you are not sure you need a DashCam, but still want to give it a try before you go all out and buy a 200 dollar HD broadcast quality one, then this one is just for you. I like the home security idea myself.

For starters you're going to need one of these: Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC10E You can get the 32 GB size as well but I know the 16 GB one works.

I uploaded a somewhat lengthy video from the unit with a fairly detailed review. Please note I had to shrink the file so it would fit under amazon's 100MB limit. The actual file is almost 500MB for 5 minutes and is 640x480. But what I uploaded should give a decent idea of the video quality. For this item please remember price matters. It is a cheap piece of hardware and it shows. I mention in my video review that I could not even use the power adaptor that came with the DVR because it caused interference on my FM radio. I had to use the adaptor that I had from my Garmin Nuvi 350. But, that worked so I'm less irritated than i would otherwise be.

Despite the problems I gave it 5 stars because of how cheap it is. Frankly I wish they'd double the price and up the build quality. But if you just want to play with something like this I think this is a good way to start.

If you're looking for an inexpensive camera that works good, try this out. I haven't had one problem with this working incorrectly.

Issues I have with it (but for the price, is just fine...):

Picture isn't the greatest. It isn't real clear. If you're using this to read road signs or license plates, forget it. If you're using it to show that there are in fact other cars or large objects, it is just fine.

I've noticed that switching into the 720p mode, it does jump a little bit. It isn't bad though, just slightly noticeable.

The infrared for nighttime use isn't the greatest either. It shows picture great to the front of the hood and then it loses all IR because of the headlights.

It does feel a little cheap, but again, for the price, not bad.

I have used this for a couple of weeks now. If you'd like to watch a few videos of me responding to calls (I'm a volunteer firefighter), go here:

The oldest videos with me responding, are w/out 720p and the newer ones have 720p. I don't notice a huge difference, just the slight jumping of the picture...

Overall, not a bad product for the price.

This product us well worth the 30 or 40 bucks you pay for it. If you want HD picture, GPS, & G-forge readings there are plenty of OTHER options but they will be hundreds. I see this camera as something that will provide non-bias evidence if ever needed to defend myself.

It IS low resolution, but not close to a deal breaker. It reminds me of the quality of digital video cameras 5 or so years back as far as picture quality is concerned.

The on-board LCD really should only be used for aiming the camera to the car's center. Other than that the LCD is very low quality. Once you remove the video from the card, it looks mush better than on the LCD. I am able to make out clearly the license plates in front of me for one car length, out of that it is too pixelated, but still shows a good view of what is going on. There is also a digital zoom if you need to get a little closer, albeit lower resolution, to your subject while driving.

You CAN turn off sound which I thought helped and saved space on the SD card. The IR should also be turned off due to at night it reflects off the window back to the camera. It can be turned on again if you need to take the camera out to record outside damage without a light source.

Night vision (IR Off) is lacking. You would still be able to use it in court to show how the other cars moved, but you couldn't use it to ID people or plates.

Battery lasts a couple hours but I just keep mine plugged in because the charging cable they sent is LONG. It wrapped from the review mirror (Where my camera is), around the frame of the windshield, down the door, under the carpet, under the chair, and into the center console (2004 Toyota Camry).

Mount is EXCELLENT, the most solid part of the package; never moves aim or loses suction.

Case of camera is medium-grade plastic and seems to hold together well, not too bad by any means.

Overall: I will be getting another for the second car. Happy with purchase.

1 YEAR UPDATE:

The camera is still running just as it did when I first set it up. The only thing that broke was the most solid part of the item... the mount. The suction ring came off of the mount so I could not attach it to the window. It has a standard camera mount screw so finding a replacement was not hard. My overall opinion of the product has not changed: It is a GREAT camera for the amount you have to pay! Video is not great, but it will hold up in court if you needed it (Which is why most of you are getting it anyways). It was HARD to set up but once that is done, it works forever. I will be buying more and am happy I got the first one.

Garmin aera 500 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS (Americas)

Garmin aera 500 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS
  • Easy-to-use touchscreen interface
  • Bright 4.3" diagonal, color display
  • Lithium-ion battery - lasts up to five hours, depending on usage and settings
  • Flight log: At least 30 most recent flights
  • High-sensitivity GPS receiver with WAAS position accuracy for improved performance and reception

The adjustable back lighting is great. One of the brightest displays seen in full sun. Found it to be very easy and intuitive to use. Although there were some changes buried deep withing that were a surprise. Love the yoke mount and car mounts. Both worked great for me. Love the single power cord. Very clean setuup. The unit is packed with features and can manupulate many of the fuctions to your liking. The size is just about right for the way it will be used. Has a good decent manual. Super easy to unclip from the mounts so you can prevent theft. Bluetooth available for vehicle use (but not why flying).

This device uses the inferior resistive touchscreen technology with a too-large bezel that makes it impossible to touch anything near the sides of the screen. The effect is that the touchable area of the buttons that hug the right side of the screen in map view are significantly reduced. Even after a calibration, I would regularly miss these buttons. The cursor simply wouldn't go as far to the right as my finger asked it to. Another problem related to the touch screen is with dragging the map in any direction. It was a frustrating experience, as the device would detect my finger at times and ignore it at other times. The touchscreen's lack of sensitivity is frustrating when entering numbers, letters etc. I wish they would using capacitive touchscreen (like the iPhone). Using the flight planner for me was cumbersome. And it is difficult to enter your own waypoints accurately due to the small screen size and lack of terrian detail. But the task can be accomplished. Battery life is an issue, but that was known before hand. I always use the plug-in power. I think this product should come with a means to plug it into 110v for charging purposes. It is an after purchase option. The vehicle mode was a little disappointing. I really liked the idea to have dual GPS capabilities, flying and vehicle travel. But the sophistication level for driving just isn't any better than whats been out there for years now. Two features I immediately found lacking were a nearest airport function in case of engine loss, and the ability to navigate to a point I touched on the map screen. To perform either function, you must exit the moving map and enter the Direct to menu.

Overall other than the unresponsive touchscreen, I am very pleased with what I mainly purchased this unit for: Flying. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but so far (Knock on wood), I haven't had any issues with it at all after about 30 hours of flying with this unit.

I've had this for over 6 months and still find it difficult to use. It's not intuitive and seems designed by someone with little aviation background ie, must exit the map screen and press several buttons to make a waypoint and then fly to it. Garmin makes better GPS's that are installed in the helicopters I fly than this one. In the Auto mode if you enter some place to go then discover you have to change a setting in tools DON'T hold down the BACK key too long as the Stop navigation button is right under the BACK key and you will have to reenter your destination if the BACK key is held down too long.

This GPS is better used by a passenger who has the time during a flight to use it rather than a pilot who has to fly the aircraft (the warning on the automotive side against use while driving should be on the aviation side as well). Battery life is poor. I agree with Timothy Lam on touchscreen problems but i also have problems dragging the map around in the auto mode when i lift my finger the map scrolls some distance away on it's own. The Bluetooth on my old ear piece from Motorola is better and easier to use (but not setup) than this Bluetooth. I'm disappointed and expected a lot better from Garmin. I would NOT recommend this GPS.

Want Garmin aera 500 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS (Americas) Discount?

I have two of these units.

They are the best you can get at the 700 usd price range but they are not perfect.

I've had one of my units going off during the flight a couple of times so If you can afford, get two as they can become inoperative during flight.

I don't like the touchscreen very much. It doesn't have great resolution and it is hard touch exactly where you want and with turbulence you may have a hard time typing a waypoint or airport name.

A good thing is that it can be attached to a Zaon XRX and provide traffic information.

It gets 3 stars on my review for the bad resolution touchscreen and the eventual freeze or black screen that requires a hard reset.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this unit. It is exactly what I expected it to be. The Garmin Aera is great unit. The touch screen works great, just a matter of acostumbrace. Pros Highly interactive, Pretty easy to navigate through screens It's everything I ever wanted in an inexpensive GPS. MP3 player. Cons: The main criticism is the length of the battery Lack of carrying case Lack of external battery charger.
