Sunforce 50033 15-Watt Solar Charging Kit

Sunforce 50033 15-Watt Solar Charging Kit
  • Amorphous solar charging kit provides up to 15 Watts of clean, free, renewable power
  • Designed for RVs, cabins, homes, boats, back-up and remote power use and more!
  • Made of durable ABS plastic and amorphous solar cells
  • Weatherproof, durable solar panels can withstand impacts from hailstones travelling 50 miles-per-hour; amorphous solar panel works in all daylight conditions-even in the shade!
  • Kit includes: one 15 Watt amorphous solar panel, a 7 Amp solar charge controller, 12 ft. of wire, CLA adapter and battery clamps for easy installation

HiI bought this set-up to keep my Motorhome charged when not using it. It is only 15 watts so can barely keep the battery up to charge if I am actually using any lights or other stuff but it will keep up with the draw of the refridgerator and minimal stuff. My only beef is the controller wires could have all been pre-terminated with connectors rather than having me do that. This was bought as a kit so it would have been nice if there was a connector on the input side of the controller that mated witht he connector on teh solar panel and a different style connector on the output that would be compatible with the cigarette-lighter adapter, etc. In other wordsall set up to just plug in and go.

Once I soldered and shrinkwrapped the new connectors on I'm pretty happy with it. Not everyone has the ability to properly terminate the wires.

Thanks

I am extremely pleased with the performance of this solar panel. We have one installed in a small cabin style 12-volt system intended only to charge personal electronics at a remote location. Just add a deep cycle battery and a DC to AC 120 power inverter, such as the Cobra CPI 480 400-Watt 12-Volt DC to 120-Volt AC Power Inverter with 5-Volt USB Output. It is great!

One WARNING for those new to such systems like we were. The charge controller that comes with this kit is just fine, but it is only for *MAINTAINING* a 12 volt battery. If that is your purpose, buy *this* kit.

But, if you want to add an inverter so that you can have AC, USB (and we even added a 12 volt car socket which is the most efficient), then buy the same panel *without* the charge controller and wiring kit. What you need is a charge controller like the Kintrex SPC0601 7 Amp 100 Watt 12 Volt Solar Power Charge Controller, and various connectors of course. The Sunforce controller only has connections for the solar panel and the battery. The Kintrex adds a load connector for power output which isolates the charge controller and gives you usable power output to your inverter. If you try to parallel the battery connection to your devices like I naively did, you risk overcharging your battery. (I vented a little hydrogen and oxygen, but did not do it long enough to ruin my battery.)

I will definitely be buying more of these panels for other projects. Once you understand the fairly simple wiring you can easily create a great low power system for a cabin. (Next, we will build a 60 or 90 watt system...)

I purchased this combo for off grid minimal lighting needs with high hopes. Package arrived dented, but contents appeared OK. Open circuit voltage on solar panel OK at 22v. However, max power output on sunny day was 1.6w (130mA@ 12.3v). This was on a day that my conventional 2.7kW system was producing 1.8kW. My plan is to return and try again, but purchasers should definitely check output.

This product has worked out well for me.

As I haven't isolated my truck battery its charging both truck and camper.

The vehicle has been unpluged from my 115V house access all summer.

I will say that it is a slow charge.

Update;

I have a 2nd unit installed in a Vanagon camper.

Works great and keeps all my batteries charged up.

Works as described. Handy to get the charge controller with the panel. If you are just using it in a set-it-and-forget-it application to keep a battery topped up, it should work great and you can stop reading here. If you are using it for a frequent use application or want a quick charge, I think you may want more juice and may want to consider the multipanel unit. If that is the case, the following may be of interest.

I have seen reviews with varying performance from these units. After buying this I additionally purchased the 60W kit(4 panels exactly like this one). Of the 5 panels I now have, the best 3 I can get around 1 Amp in strong unobstructed sun angled directly at the sun (per my $6 multimeter), and the other 2 seem to top out at around .7-.8 Amps. In combination however the result is not quite the sum of the individual. I get a max of about 2A out of 3 panels or about 2.7 out of 4. Charge controller drop seems to be about .2 A, and the rest is probably due to sun angle. Perhaps with brighter sun or better angle to the sun perhaps my 3 best panels would exceed 1A each and the other 2 would be closer to the 1A mark. Has been fun experimenting.

  • Includes a quick harness with 3 connectors
  • Provides 2-amp trickle for 12-volt batteries and 4-amp trickle for 6-volt batteries
  • Ideal for 6 and 12 volt batteries

I purchased this unit two months ago, and I have used it twice since then. The first time, I used it to charge my Lincoln, which had a defective battery. I didn't think the problem was with the one and a half year-old battery, but it was. It took all night to charge it, and the battery seemed OK for a few days, but went dead again. I then replaced it.

The second time, I used it to charge my van. I inadvertently left the key in the accessory mode, and, when I discovered it, the battery was as dead, and I mean DEAD. It was as if there were no battery hooked-up at all. To my surprise, the unit charged my van in only a few hours. I expected it to take longer.

I, especially, like the added features: Auto Start (doesn't supply current to the battery clips until a battery is properly connected); offers three connector options; no problem if you mistakenly reverse battery connections; automatically detects and corrects a sulfated battery; and does not need to be monitored can be left connected practically forever. It automatically switches over to Maintain Mode.

All-in-all, this is a great little unit, and, because of the reasonable price, should be in everyone's garage waiting for that unexpected moment.

I have owned this model for over three years and have it connected to a pair of golf cart batteries I use for backup power. It has operated 24/7 all this time and the batteries perform like new. Even though this is listed as a trickle charger, it cycles on and off as needed to maintain a float voltage.

I have also connected this to my Watts Up Pro power meter and tracked cost of operation. Maintaining these 220 amp hour batteries cost about 30 cents per month at the .09 cents per kilowatt rate. I don't use this to recharge the batteries after running them down, as it would take far to long. Not sure why they call this Speedcharge, but it would work well for slow charging smaller batteries.

I hook it up to my antique car and the battery is charged all the time. Thought it didn't work when I first bought it because it didn't charge the battery overnight. Takes a while the first time but will keep it charged after that. It was a bargain.

I am writing my review not to describe the product so much (which is great) because the same reviews you just read before mine do that, I bought it because of those reviews. Rather I want to answer 2 questions I had that where not the clearest, or at least answered to my satisfaction.

Yes this works on cars. I plugged in my Lumina sedan that had a failing alternator and it charged the battery up over night. Went from 11.8volts to 12.7volts.

Yes you can charge your car by plugging it into the cig lighter port. As long as your port has constant power! That is, your car off and key out, you still have power there. Leave the charger outside the car though, you never know...

Just wanted to help others who may have had the same concerns I did before I could test it. And oh yes, this thing is tiny! Figure the same footprint of a paperback book.

This Schumacher SC-200A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer is exactly what I needed. The day it was delivered, I thought the guy had the wrong house because the package was so small I wondered what could this be? Did I forget I ordered something else? I was so ready for disappointment that I did not open the package until 3 days later. I finally said I may as well open it up because it cost too much to return it maybe I can use it for something else. So I took it out of its packaging, set this little box on my kitchen table, and it sat there for a week or more.

Finally, and with my grass needing cutting badly, I took the charger out of the box, read the instructions (so simple and easy), hooked the charger to my riding lawn mower battery, and to make a looong story short IT WORKED !!!!!

This charger is so powerful to be so small!!! Now I don't have to use my SUV to charge my lawnmower battery I have a Schumacher SC-200A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer, and it is GREAT !!!! My riding lawnmower cranks NOW without being charged. And for extra battery maintenance, I keep the charger connected, at intervals, when I am not using my riding lawnmower.

Great investment !!!!

  • 7 GMRS/FRS, 7 FRS, and 8 GMRS channels offer wide choice of communication frequencies
  • Hands-free voice-activation mode; Quiet Talk filter eliminates interruption from nearby radios
  • 10 audible call tones and 121 privacy codes; Priority Scan searches for private channels
  • Each radio measures 2.3 by 6.7 by 1.3 inches (W x H x D); 1-year warranty

Used the FV500R on a 1000 mile journey through Wyoming and mostly around Yellowstone between 2 cars travelling together.

While on 1/2 watt power, radio had great reception between the 2 travelling cars. Worked fine when there were 2-3 bends in the road with trees blocking the other radio. Only stopped working when there were 4-5 large bends blocking transmission (didnt try increasing to 1 watt power for that temporary time).

Easy to use, recharged batteries lasted about 12+hrs on one charge.

Radio only had problems in a town when there were 3 right-angle bends with buildings blocking radios. Reception was then intermittent.

Highly recommended.

I have been a firm believer in Motorola radios and cellphones. These radios work great! They have batteries with no memory and charger, which is the way to go. The range is good with some interference, which you would have with any of these radios. I have found uses for these radios that I would have never thought of.

I bought these for a trip to whistler. My buddy alrady had a couple of older motorola units that were compatible with the fv500's. Overall, battery performance was acceptable and lasted more than a full day of use at top volume. Range was pretty impressive, but no where near advertised specs when there were buildings or mountainous terrain as obstacles. Works as expected and a great value for about $20-$30.

very good. Range is almost as advertised. Reception OK

We bought for spousal communication when husband is working elsewhere on the property. Works great for that purpose and charges faster than advertised. My husband came in for the day not realizing until the following day that he had lost the radio. Searched for days with no luck. Three weeks later (and many rains later) he almost twisted his ankle on it in the woods. The display was full of moisture and the faceplate muddy. Rinsed it off and put the hairdryer to it, back onto the charger and next day it was seemingly as good as new.

We were originally disappointed in the range but have since used a 17 mile range Cobra which has less actual range than the Motorola. The only way to get the advertised range on any of these is if both users were on (not in) forest towers with line of sight.

Amprobe BAT-200 Battery Tester

Amprobe BAT-200 Battery Tester

  • Conforms to applicable European Conformity (CE) directives and N10140 Australian standards

It does what I purchased it for at an affordable price. And unlike the Radio Shack battery tester I used before, there is an obvious place where the meter should point without a battery attached, so you know if a fall or other rough handling causes the meter to be improperly "zeroed" (which leads to faulty measurements).

It tests most kinds of standard batteries INCLUDING 9 volts. The terminals are on one of the ends. I used it on all of our batteries and found out several devices that didn't work, that we thought were broke, were really just the victims of dead batteries. Easy to test and read. I recycled a dozen batteries that tested bad. I will buy more of them for gifts.

This is a pretty simple but effective little product. It does exactly as it's supposed to do, telling you if your batter is good, low, or needs to be replaced. It works with all kinds of regular household batteries. I can already tell Im going to save money because many times when my smoke alarm is beeping or I think other things aren't working correctly because of the battery being dead so I throw it out and replace it, with this battery tester Ive already saved myself from throwing out several batteries just by testing them first to see if the battery is the issue and it turns out it isn't. For the price this is a household must have and I am very happy I purchased this.

Gentlemen,

The tester is simple to operate and provides an easy way to assess the battery status. By not discarding usable batteries it will pay for itself in a short time.

The tester works as advertised, but the construction could be a little better. The red slider is a little flimsy. All of the batteries I tested were easy to check and the results were reliable.

Bought this last year to use at a second home for a car that is parked most of the time. Just had occasion to use it. Charged it all night, but the charge light never came on. Yes, it was plugged in! But, in the morning, it still says it needs to be recharged. When plugged in, it still does not show any indication that it is charging. Connected to the car battery and there is no effect. I am going to have to start over and just treat this as wasted money. I would say it was defective from the beginning and I just had not tried it to know that. Do not rely on this product. Buy something else, plug it in and try it, before storing it for emergency use. See the other comment here for the power demand necessary to start a car sounds like he knows more than I do about that aspect of it.

Bought this last week and gave it the full 36 hour charge. Tested it this weekend on my dad's 1988 Ford Escort. (4 Cylinder engine). To test it, I disconnected the negative cable from the Escort battery. The IP-75 started it, but barely. When I brought my dad out to see a second demonstration, it failed. Conditions were ideal; 70 degrees in the shade on the driveway. It's probably fine for motorcycles, lawn mowers or ATV's, but it's not really enough for much more. It's only 7 Amp hours. I think 12 Amp hours is the minimum for confidence.

I purchased this product to help me boost my Ford Escape in cold weather conditions. The first time I used it, it worked exactly like it was supposed to and my car started easily. However, that first boost seems to have fried it permanently. The product now tells me that it has a full charge but it won't even produce any sparks when I hook up the positive clamp to my battery and the negative clamp to the metal on my engine (something that should produce a few sparks and which did the first time I boosted my car with it). If you are looking for something to boost a car in cold weather, skip this product because I have found it to be essentially a one-time-use, disposable product.

I have had a hard time finding replacement power adapters for this radio as the plug keeps breaking over time. I thought this would be a great solution, but it ultimately let me down. I bought two so that I could move my radio between two vehicles more easily. The first issue I noticed is that I get a high pitched noise when the radio powers up. I am not sure where it is coming from. I could almost live with that, but the main issue is that my Starmate ST2 has terrible reception using this adapter. At first it was fine, but then over time it would cut out and I would lose the signal entirely. I tried it in both vehicles, and experienced the same issue. In testing, I immediately switched back to my old patched together adapter when I lost my signal, and reception was back to normal. I then switched back to the gomadic to verify that it was not a fluke and the problem resurfaced, so I immediately switched to the old adapter to fix the issue. I looked at the satellite reception signal, and the difference was full vs no signal.

The LCD screen is nice, definitely worth a few extra bucks, I can know exactly what my battery voltage is at anytime I want. This charge controller is able to use 8 gauge wire connected directly to it, bigger wire means better power flow. Voltaic 1010 OffGrid Solar Backpack

Voltaic Systems 1010 OffGrid Solar Backpack, Removable Front Charging Panel - 4W Solar Charger, 3000mAh Battery - For Handheld Electronics - SilverUPDATE:

I wanted to know what actually happen when I have only one or two charge lights on (not blinking); is it charging in this case? So today I rigged up some

plug and I connected a power analyzer between the storage battery and the pannel. I placed the solar pannel against the window so I don't have direct sun light.

in this set up, I got two non-blinking charge lights and the power analyzer reported a current of 0.0 to 0.03 Amp entering the storage battery (most of the time,

there is no current at all). So this means that when the charging lights are not blinking even if they are on, there is not much charging going on.

On the other in direct sun light, it is different. In this case, the lights are blinking and I can get something like 0.3 to 0.5 Amp.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------------

I always have the storage battery (one that came with the backpack) plugged into the pannel. I found that even when I am not using the battery to charge anything,

it will drain quickly when it is not being charged in the sun light. For example after being out of the sunlight for 12 hours, I lost one charge light. It went

from 4 charge lights to 3. I do not like the almost-to-nothing documentation that came with this product. It never explain any of this. Why is the battery

drain too quickly when I am not using it?

------------------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE:----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I finaly get enough summer sun light to test this backpack charging ability. This is what I found. The storage battery's charging lights will only be blinking

sequentialy (indicating that the battery is being charged) when in direct sun light. When not in direct sun light (like near a window), the charging lights are not blinking, but one or sometime two charging lights will be on. What

does this means in this case? Is the battery being charged in this case? I really do not know (the documentation is not clear on this). I assume

that the battery is being charged at low capacity (at least I hope that is the case) and I also assume that

the number of lights that are on indicate the charging capacity.

Also even in direct sun light, the solar panel's output charging current is not as high as the current drawn by the cell phone so when I am charging my Nokia cell

phone while walking or riding my bike in direct sun light, the storage battery will be drain. This means that my cell may not be completely charged and the

storage battery may be completely drained. This is especially true if the storage battery is not fully charged at the start of a charging session. This is disapointing because what is the point if I have to fully charged the storage battery at home before begining a trip. I would like to be able to charge my cell and still have enough excess current to charge the storage battery as well. The longer I use this backpack, the more I am disapointed with its performance.

------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE----------------------------------------

Well I have been using this backpack for 4 months now and it is ripped in a dozen places. I have had it repaired three time

now. I am not happy! Please do not buy this product. I am lucky I am traveling outside the US where there are many shops

that will repaire my backpack. In the US where there is no such repair shops, this backpack would have been completely useless and I would

have thrown it away after a few months of use. I do not recomend buying this backpack.

------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to the winter I have not be able to test the solar charging feature. But the backpack fabric quality is terrible!

When I ordered this backpack, I picked the charcoal pennel. But I got an email from the seller telling me that they "accidentally"

shipped the silver pennel. They wanted to know if that is OK or I can wait two extra days and they will ship me the charcoal pennel.

I thought it's not a big deal so I say OK, I'll take the silver one.

Well when I got the backpack, it had a small wear near the pennel zipper that made it hard to zip an unzip the pennel pocket. I was not

happy but I did not want to deal with returning and reshipping so I let it go. I know, I can not say for sure that they intentionaly sent me

faulty backpack but I am saying I did get a weird feeling in this case. If my subspicion is correct, I think it is extremely unprofessional of

them.

I had not used the backpack until a month ago when I went on a 200km biking trip. On this trip the backpack fabric torned (ripped) in three places.

All near the front pocket. It was not the threading that got ripped. It was the fabric near the threading area the got ripped) Fortunately, I was traveling in an Asian city where they can repair backpack. Thus I had it repaired and it seems fine.

but I have to be very carefull to not load the backpack too much again.

I owned two other non-solar backpacks and I regularly overloaded ( to a much higher degree than I loaded the solar backpack) them for a year now and it never ripped.

It is winter time so I have not fully test the solar charging feature but where I was biking, there considerable sun light and my cell phone

almost completely drain the battery in the backpack. Thus at this point I don't have much confident in the solar charging feature but I will

wait until summer time to test in full direct sunlight and I will give an update.

Very happy with my purchase! Great quality pack, excellent construction and the solar panels and battery are top quality. my only complaint is it needs more internal space a 15" macbook in neoprene skin only just fits into the rear laptop compartment, and I regularly carry 2 plus other items.

Pro: It has adapters for almost everything! nice sturdy panels, plenty pockets and lots of space.

Works awesomely under the scorching Panamanian sun, finally getting something back out of all that sweating.

This backpack is light, carrying the battery and all of the extras it has.

You can separate the panels from the bag and put the panels where they can get more sunlight.

Cons: used the bag two times and it already ripped, i took it out just to walk around the city doing errands nothing too extreme and then I realized the second pocket from the panels back, just where the zipper starts, the stitches got loose and now I have like an Inch wide opening between the pocket and the zipper.

My phone(Samsung Galaxy S2) doesn't fit in the phone pocket on the shoulder strap.

TL;DR: Nice features, sturdy panels, lightweight, charges pretty fast under direct sunlight conditions, backpack could be better stitched. I will definitely go with a 2.0 version if it ever comes out.

Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable + B

Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable + Black Horizontal Leather Pouch for Motorola Atrix 4G MB860The power cords fit the Atrix perfectly. The Atrix charges as it should. The only draw back is that when charging with the wall plug and car adapter, you are unable to use the phone while it is charging. The touchscreen does not respond while plugged in. I read about similar results from other people with other aftermarket chargers. It seems that this phone (as well as other phones) tend to be very picky when it comes to different chargers. I did notice however that when using the USB charger, you are able to work the phone normally while charging. The case is nice but fit the phone loosely. Maybe its just not my style but the case will not get any use from me at all. As long as your OK with not being able to use it while charging, this is a great buy for the price and ammount of accessories you get. I would buy it again if i had to.

This is the best price I have heard so for for bundle. We have Saved lot of money. Will buy more of same.

First, let me say thank you for the prompt service. I love my leather pouch and it fits perfectly over the after market case I bought. Also, the wall charger is actually better than the wall charger that came with the phone. It is longer by about a foot and it lights up to let me know that it is getting power. The extra cord length has allowed me to place the phone on a table while it charges. The original cord from motorola was so short that I had to lay the phone on the floor while it charged. The car charger does not work in all of my vehicles. The vendor graciously offered a refund for the defective part or a replacement. I can't believe how much great stuff I got for the price!!! Great value for so little money and EXCELLENT vendor service.

I will be telling all my friends about this.

Thank you so very much for the great cheap stuff!!!

Only needed 1-2 pieces, but the price made purchase a no-brainer as far as having spare parts on hand as replacements.
