Energizer 84022 12V 350 Ca Jump-Start System

Energizer 84022 12V 350 Ca Jump-Start System
  • Energizer 84022 12-Volt Jump-Start System (350 Ca)
  • Two-stage internal charger allows jumpstarter to remain connected to wall outlet indefinitely, keeping internal battery charged at all times
  • Low center-of-gravity for stability during use, 4AWG copper cables with a 24" reach and heavy-duty 400A metal battery clamps
  • Reverse-polarity audio alarm, internal battery charge-state indicator
  • 12-volt DC cigarette socket outlet, protected by 30A circuit breaker; convenient inverter docking feature for optional Energizer 200w inverter, sold separately

This unit is much more useable for jump starting, and, tire inflation in adverse weather conditions, than the more elaborate jump/inverter/inflator packages available. It is compact and stores in the trunk more easily than the larger units. This unit is also half the price of the other units. I highly recommend it if you live in cold weather climates in which jump starting is inevitable most winters.

I have a tractor, an ATV, a Range Rover and a VW that must start when I need them, or, I am in trouble (sometimes could be stranded). This unit fills the need for starting any of these vehicles in a pinch.

The large dial might look cartoonish, but, when you are in the middle of a blizzard, with gloves on, and heavy clothing, it is easy to locate the switch (even in the dark) as you fumble around to get a vehicle started in deep snow.

At 20 pounds, I find that I can carry it from the garage to the vehicles more easily than the larger units, and, it's easier to find some stable place to put it when you are jumping a vehicle than the larger, heavier packages.

I bought this to replace a Duracell jump/inverter package. Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source with Radio

I would have bought another Duracell package except for three things: (1) 600 amps is nice, but, you don't really have to have it for most jumps; (2) the inverters are nice, but, I found that I almost never used them; (3) the price has doubled on these units in the past couple of years, and, the benefits they offer are not worth the extra money; (4) it was very fragile I had it on the side of my pickup truck and it dropped a distance of only a few feet, once, and the case was irreparably damaged from the modest fall. I had to throw it out. (The designers who invent these things on computers aren't the ones who have to use it in 4 feet of snow, with 50 mph of driving wind, and a 45 year old tractor that has a tired battery under the seat).

This unit isn't built much better than the Duracell, but, the smaller size makes it easier to find a safe, stable place to put it while you are jumping another vehicle.

I find that this little unit meets 99% of my emergency battery needs, and, the cost savings make it a worthy alternative to the larger, more elaborate packages.

I recently received this product, but have not yet tried to use it. So why four stars? The unit seems well made, and I am fairly confident it will do the job. The reason I am writing this review now, and the reason I took off one star, is that I wanted to share something I read in the user manual, which might have changed my mind about purchasing the unit.

Your intended use might be different, but the reason I bought this unit was to keep it in the car all the time (charging it periodically) in case the car's battery went dead without warning. (It does happen.) Now that I have read the instructions (which I could not find on-line prior to purchase), I see that this is not a good idea. Here are quotes from the user manual...

"All batteries are affected by temperature changes. Jumpstart 400's small size, lightweight battery is more sensitive to storage temperature than a typical automotive battery. The ideal storage temperature is at 70 degrees." ... "Jumpstart 400 must be kept in an environment with temperatures around 70 degrees." ... "Do not keep Jumpstart 400 in your vehicle in extremely hot or cold temperatures." ... "If you have a concern about your vehicle starting, and you are going to work, take Jumpstart 400 into your office. Then you can be confident the Jumpstart 400 battery will provide the power you need."

Where I live, it seems that all we have are extremely hot or cold temperatures, especially in a parked car. So to me, the temperature issues severly limits the usefulness of the product. To be fair, I would expect that all small-ish jump start units, including those from other manufacturers, would probably have the same temperature issue.

I bought the Energizer 84022 jumpstarter, and even though it arrived a day later than originally estimated by Amazon, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. My car had been sitting in the cold for 2 weeks, battery was totally gone -the lights and alarm wouldn't even work. I plugged in the jumpstarter and let it charge overnight. In the morning the green 'charged' indicator was shining and I decided to give it a shot. Hooking the jumpstarter up to my car was easy -the cables have a nice long reach, it beeped when everything was hooked up properly, and then I flipped the switch to 'Jump' and turned my key. Less than a second later my engine started without a hitch.

I had to get a skid-loader started in -10 degree weather that of course had a totally dead battery.

I was amazed that this device could even turn over the frozen motor let alone spin it fast enough to start but it did.

The quality of the plastic parts, clamps and switches are fantastic.

I do keep it in the house and fully charged which helps greatly.

I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a jumpstart. It is easy to use and has enough power to jumpstart your everyday vehicels (cars, trucks, 4-wheelers) I use it on all the above. Charging it is what I like the most. No adaptors to keep up with just plug it in a drop cord and let go. It's a winner in my book.

Having used Battery Tenders for years I was feeling that they weren't doing their job any more

when a 2 year old battery would not start the bike after being charged/tended. The light

on the Tender said it was fully charged but it wasn't. Having read a review on some of the

new charges decided on the Optimate 3+ Motorcycle Battery Charger. So far it fixed two batteries

that were in bikes and recovered two older ones that were waiting for a trip to the recycling center.

It's the best I have yet to use!

I had a 2 year old motorcycle battery sitting on a shelf waiting to be recycled when I purchased this. I threw it on there for a day and came back to a fully charged battery.

9/1/12

I am notoriously bad at keeping my battery plugged in but this thing keeps them alive. I am a very light rider and so my bike sits around a lot and battery is almost always dead. This unit has never had an issue recovering and making the battery like new.

Pros:

Price

Reliability

Works great

Cons:

The display lights don't tell you anything

Great charger / maintainer!!! I have gone through two top quality motorcycle batteries in the last few years. My local Yamaha shop suggested this product to keep my battery always charged up. The charger maintains the battery at full charge without the risk of overcharging it. From what I understand now, letting the battery sit for weeks/months to the point of dyeing is extremely hard on them.

The light indicators on this are very handy. These lights will let you know when the system is idle, trickle charging, deep charging, and trying to recover a really messed up battery when possible.

Let me start by saying this is the exact same product as the Honda Optimate 3+ charger that sells for $75 at the dealership. The charger is completely automatic and lets you know what its doing and the state of the battery at all times. I recently had to make a 100 mile trip back to the dealership with what appared to be electrical system problem. The battery tested fine and indicated it was fully charged and would hold a charge with my other motorcycle battery charger. Drove over 2.5 hours to find out the battery had a shorted cell. This will never be a problem again with this charger. Total diagnostic and testing program will bring old sulphated batteries back to life. Easy to follow instructions and comes with clamp and screw on connectors.

This thing is amazing. My motorcycle battery was only about one year old but it was already gone because I do not ride much anymore. I had a battery tender attached to it, but it did nothing to keep it charged properly. After a full recharge at the place where I bought it, the battery went dead again in less than one week. Then I bought this unit. This TecMate brought it back to life. After the first twenty four hours of recharging, the red light was permanently on, telling me that this unit had done everything possible, but could not get it fixed (i.e., the battery could no longer maintain the charge). I kept it connected and attached to my bike. The standard cycles went on (30 minutes each). The red light was still on many times but after the charging process (green light flashing). This went on for about one week. Then one day to my surprise, the green light was permanently on, which meant that the battery was now able to maintain the charge. The bike starts very quickly. And to think that I was about to recycle the battery. Goodbye Battery Tender. Welcome home, TecMate.

I have experimented with a few products to monitor the Battery on my Piaggo and Vespa Scooters. This one seems to be the most simplistic and affective way. I don't own the CTEK Charger, but I am using this to plug into my SAE connector under my seat to tell me if I am drawing to much voltage from accessories. My observations comparing the Battery Bug and this Indicator showed the same results. If you maintain a "Green" LED, then your Voltage draw on your battery is not exceeding what your bikes charging system provides. If you are showing "Yellow", you need to turn something off. Although you can piggy back to the charger by removing the connector, I actually super glued the cap shut, and cut off the plastic loop. My intentions were to use it as a Monitor device. I give it 5 stars...

Works great. Allowed me to hook-up to SAE plug. I can now use use it on multiple vehicles. It should be included with the Ctek charger.

Great addition for anyone who has vehicles that may sit for a length of time. Couldn't be simpler to use...plug in the SAE connection and...

Green = Battery is in good condition and does not need to be charged

Yellow = Battery should be charged to avoid damaging stratification

Red = Battery needs charging to enable restart

Pass-through connector allows for a charger or other accessories to be connected without removing the pigtail. I wired my street motorcycle with multiple SAE connections through a Fuzeblock and up to the bars. Using various SAE connectors I can power or charge just about any conceivable electronic device on the bars or in my tankbag. Having this pigtail connected gives me a status on my battery 100% of the time so even if I happen to leave an accessory powered up I should notice it long before my battery is drained and/or damaged.

Product appears to be made with high quality materials. Ingenious idea!

Great addition to my CTEK 3300 charger!!!Easily provides state of charge at a glance! Should acquire when thinking of purchasing any CTEK charger if you choose to install your charger to the vehicle.

I had the charger itself, but left the hardwiring on my last car that I sold. Instead of purchasing an entire new unit, I looked online and found this on Amazon. It clamps right onto the battery terminal and works great w/ you existing Ctek.

Schumacher SC-1200A SpeedCharge 12/8/2 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Starter/Tester

Schumacher SC-1200A SpeedCharge 12/8/2 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Starter/Tester
  • 12 Amp fast charge to monitor battery condition and prevent battery damage
  • 8 Amp medium charge to self-adjust charge rate and keep the battery in peak condition
  • 2 amp slow charge to charge small and maintain large batteries
  • 50 Amp clamps for top and side-mounted battery posts
  • Electronic push button controls switches for selection of display mode, charge rate or battery type and retractable handle for easy portability and storage

Forgetting to remove the negative connector before storing my vehicle for the winter; the internal sytems and alarm drained the battery, and of course it was sulfated. This unit worked like a charm. The battery was down to 8 volts/15%. The SC-1200a properly began to charge, then desulfate, and slowly was able to get the battery back to 98% before I removed it to start the car. This took approximately 17 hours (700 CCA Battery), which isn't bad for a dead/sulfated battery using a charger costing less than $50. The plus is you can use it to maintain your battery on a vehicle you do not drive much. Keeping your battery charged above 98% can greatly extend the life. How long it will the charger last running 24/7? ...I do not know yet. I have only had it maintaining the battery for 3 weeks, but still no problems. It does have a cooling fan which probably should be cleaned/vacuumed occaisionally; and I've never felt the unit being hot to touch. Not sure what problem the first reveiwer had, or if the unit he had was defective or dropped before he purchased it. For a $50 charger which maintains and also desulfates a battery, you cannot beat it.

Stay far, far, far, away from this charger. I walked away from tested, good, low charge battery being charged on the 8amp setting connected to a 750CCA regular car battery and when I came back a couple hours later it was boiling and still trying to charge! I checked the charge voltage and it was at 16 volts (measured with a Fluke meter)! Bad, very bad, charger and not automatic or smart at all.

This thing is NOISY. I got it to charge and maintain a battery for a back-up sump pump, was going to have it in the equipment room in the basement, so didn't think noise would be an issue for me (saw other reviewers mention it). Even so, it's too loud. There's loud humming noise from the fans which are always on, and when charging a high-pitch tone joins the mix. It also draws 10 watts at idle when not even charging. Totally not suitable for this purpose.

Otherwise it seemed to charged my 75 AH maintenance-free sealed deep cycle battery no problem, and went into battery maintain mode as expected.

Update: purchased Schumacher SEM-1562A 1.5 Amp Speed Charge Maintainer and much happier now. This unit doesn't have a fan and consumes only 2 watts while maintaining, and no transformer noises. Maybe I was just trying to use wrong product for my purpose. But I did want to have the ability to charge the battery faster than over several days...

This is not what Amazon is thinks it is. They have confused the SC-12000A Schumacher Speedcharge Battery Charger, Model# SC-12000A

which is no longer available and substantially a more powerful unit.

This listing (this one above, SC-1200A) has the correct picture and model number, but the descriptive text in the title and details touts the specs of the the 12000, not the 1200.

I sent it back today once I saw that it was the less powerful charger. I missed the Gold Box this week because I saw this unit and thought it was the better unit. I went out today and bought locally as I can't wait for an alternate item to ship.

One of the earlier reviews (4-12-2007) alludes to this issue but it appears this was not Amazon's mistake. A model number with a single zero difference enables confusion all the way around.

I was hoping to find the Schumacher model 7000A 2/20 Amp charger to review, but this 1200A is just a variation on the same thing. Looks identical too. After reading bad reviews of Schumacher and Vector it's clear these companies can't do anything right. Seems any product that has a microprocessor is programmed by the incompetent. Let me tell you about Schumacher speed chargers.

They won't charge batteries that don't already have a significant charge. If your battery drops below 10 to 11 volts, forget it. You'd have to have a manual battery charger as backup for when this won't charge, which eliminates the need for this thing in the first place. The explanation from the company is that the charger has to feed off the voltage in the battery, blah, blah. The purpose of a battery charger is to charge batteries, period. Then I was lied to by the tech and told if I hold down a certain combination of buttons when plugging the unit in, it would go into manual 2A mode (where the processor doesn't decide it won't charge your battery), but I sat there on the phone with him doing just as he said, and turns out no such feature exists. The manual doesn't mention anything like that either.

The charger is totally unpredictable. It almost always goes into desulfate mode. It has never completed a charge after coming out of desulfate mode, but ends in an error. Needs to be unplugged and plugged back in to start charging again to "completion". However completion doesn't seem to get the battery to 100% power, more like 80%, if that. Sometimes it won't charge at 20A and drops down to 2A. Don't know why. And according to the manual, desulfate mode can take up to 10 hours. So much for speed charge. Need to get into your car and go somewhere? Well you may need to wait until the next day.

It has a retain mode where the charger can sit there and monitor your battery and charge when needed. Figured I'd just leave the thing on my car almost permanently. But those who programmed the thing don't understand setting upper and lower thresholds. What it should do is charge up to the upper threshold, then when the battery drops below the lower, it charges to the upper again. I therefore expected it to turn on once a day or whatever. Instead it's turning on and off every several seconds, with the fan and relay clicking on and off. That's a good way to ware out the unit in no time.

It has a 70A engine start feature just incase you don't have enough juice to quite start your car, but if the battery is low enough where the charger won't charge it, the engine start feature won't work either.

My last car battery was probably only 1.5 years old before it wouldn't even take a charge. I'm beginning to suspect the damn charger might be responsible. When going into desulfate mode for instance, I see the voltage climb up to well over 16 volts. I don't know if that's good for the battery.

The simple act of charging a battery can be turned into a stressful nightmare with this crappy charger. Stay far away from Schumacher. It's clear they can't build a realiable charger, nor does it appear they've actually tried out their own products before dumping them onto the public.

Arrived bubble wrapped in a small priority shipping box; not a retail package. This is a 1 piece unit, no accessories and a single half sheet of instructions. No loose parts to worry about, the plug is permanently attached and plugs directly into cig adapter. I like the compact size and feel of this unit. The cord is about the right length for me, there is 22" of wire between the plug and the unit. It'll reach the passenger seat just fine from the console. Mine works and produces modified AC power which runs my gadgets nicely (chargers: both USB and AC wall warts). The included USB ports are a bonus. My biggest disappointment is that the fan remains on continuously. This means I'll only be able to use it in situations where the car is running. I had hoped the fan would only turn on when it needed to cool down.

Due to the inefficiencies of a continuous fan, this unit is not a reasonable choice in an off grid battery situation. It is fine in a running car. I bought this unit hoping I could use it in a camping kit but it would quickly drain my solar charged portable battery system (only 9Ah). I'm going to keep it, but it's less useful than I had hoped. I won't be unable to leave this unit turned on when I'm away from the car or it'll drain the car battery, which is unacceptable.

The sales info says "Temperature controlled cooling fan" which tells me the fan should not be on unless it needs to cool the unit. I've contacted the seller to see how we'll resolve this. Perhaps I have a bad unit? *** Update from seller, this unit is working as designed ***

3 stars for delivering the power and having a USB port, but not more due to the noise and waste of energy a full time cooling fan causes. If the fan only went on as needed this would be a nice 5 star Inverter.

*** Update ***

Contacted seller, after a couple of email exchanges it was determined that this unit will keep the fan on at all times. While the unit differs from how I understood the listing, it's not worth my time to send it back. When I ordered mine, 1/3rd of the price was paid in shipping fees, so I'll keep this unit as an in-car unit and look to find something else that will be more efficient in a solar/battery based system.

If your intended use is in a car, the fan is most likely not a problem. You can also check to see if your Cig adapter shuts off when you turn off your keys, then it's even less of an issue as it won't drain your batteries when you leave your car. I have a Cig adapter in the trunk I use to power/charge things on trips and when traveling, mine turns off with the key so I can use this in the car without worry.

Mine continues to work well and has survived weeks in my trunk in the hot AZ sun.

*** For comparison purposes I have also reviewed the GoPower 175w inverter and compare that unit with this one side by side. You will find that video here:

Overall I can recommend as long as you understand what you are getting. A nice little inverter for the money. The things that might surprise you is the little cooling fan never turns off. Not a super big deal but it does draw a little under half an amp just to run the units cooling fan. Having two USB ports was why I bought it. Watch the video and you will see more about power draw.

First let me say the play back on this is wonderful. However. The battery would never charge. Has to be kept plugged in tho the cig, lighter. Also because of the no charge you will have to reset the date (not a easy task) each time you go for a drive. For the price of the camera I can live with it. However not to sure what the legal aspect will be if something happens and the date on the playback is always Jan 1 2010. For me the price is not worth the effort packing and sending back. I will be putting out the extra money and buy a more sturdier camera. Also the battery costs as much as the camera did. That is why I did not replace

Reasons for my rating:

inadequate build quality: LCD flip screen flexed a lot under normal touch while opening as result, LCD itself fell out and hung by the wires, had to be taped in temporarily; status LED's, hidden in the same pinhole (no lens), are hard to see and interpret; power cord falls out of the unit easily; I felt that there were too many quality shortcuts.

battery was not charging the unit still worked when plugged into 12V outlet, however, any changes in settings were not memorized by the unit. As result, every time on startup all settings were back to default: time stamp was the same 1/1/2010 (or so), video length set to 2 minutes, and so on; recorder could not be used without 12V source.

manual is not the worst one I've seen, however, print is too small for example, it was impossible to discern the numbers on diagram, even with magnifier.

video quality: not up to 720p standards, as far as I can see. Wasn't able to read license plates, at any distance, under any lighting conditions. The unit is essentially useless at night, producing dark screen with lights moving around, and not much else. Otherwise, picture quality seems to be on par with other cheap cameras on Amazon, as far as user videos show. Sound recording is OK, however, there were some strange pitches recorded that I would not even recognize.

Overall, in my experience, this unit is simply not worth the trouble of trying. Yes, it kind of works in a pinch, if you desperately need a basic car recorder however, there are even cheaper alternatives of seemingly similar quality here, on Amazon. Cannot recommend.

Battery was shipped fast and packaged well from seller. It was the same size and specs as the Yuasa that came with the generator. After installing the battery the generator started right up without needing a charge.

I got 5 1/2 years out of the Yuasa but the MotorBatt was half the price. So far so good.

I bought a cheap battery 6 months before I bought this one hoping that it would last me a year or soit didn't even make the 6 months. The MotoBatt is fast cranking and high quality. Amp hours are really important. My old cheap battery was 9 amp hrs; brand new this barely made the starter turn the engine over. This battery is 10.5 amp hrsit cranks it over fast! My advice, don't go cheap on a batteryit will cost you more in the end.

Excellent replacement battery. Fits perfect. Should last quite a while and don't have to worry about fumes, corrosion or spills!!

SuperTooth Buddy Bluetooth Visor Speakerphone Car kit-Black

SuperTooth Buddy Bluetooth Visor Speakerphone Car kit-BlackSUMMARY:

=============

This is a simple device and easy to use, but sometimes the Bluetooth stays connected through-out the house, while my truck is in the driveway. This is the main reason I give this 4-stars. Charging port is under the device and if you are running low, it is hard to keep it mounted while stuffing the charging cord in between the device and the sun-visor. That is a minor reason why I also give it 4-stars. [See Update at bottom, recently lowered to 3-stars]

What's in the box:

====================

1. SuperTooth Buddy bluetooth device

2. Car charger that uses mini-USB

3. Magnetic clip that allows you to use the device with the sun-visor closed or open

What I like about this:

========================

1. Simple to setup and use; it gets the job done!

2. I press the green button and I can do voice-dialing the same way as I do with just my phone.

3. Seems like a pretty good battery charge, seeing how I never turn it off... probably 2-3 weeks worth, but I do not make lenghty calls in my car

4. Good price

5. Good volume, nice and loud

6. Callers report my voice sounds clear, though they can tell I'm on a speakerphone

7. Seems to work well in this Texas heat, which probably exceeds 120degrees inside the car in July/August, my Motorola T-325 did not. [See Update!!]

What I don't like about this:

=============================

1. No caller id, it only rings or you have to look at your phone display for $20 more, the Jabra Cruiser2 and Motorola T-325 announces the caller's name!

2. Bluetooth signal is almost too strong. I've parked my car in the driveway and sometimes it stays connected. I kid you not, but I take aluminum foil and just wrap it around my phone when I come home and usually the bluetooth signal drops and it disconnects.

Why don't I just turn off bluetooth on my phone?? Well, more times than not, every time I turn off Bluetooth on the phone, I forget to turn it back on and usually it is when I am driving and the phone is not easily accessible. You don't want to go around digging for your phone, that's why you get a Bluetooth speakerphone like this :).

Why don't I just turn off the actual device?? Well, more times than not, every time I turn off the device, I forget to turn it on, and usually it's when someone calls me and only my phone rings, etc. At this point it is too late to turn it on and hope it pairs in time AND answer the call.

So my aluminum foil method is silly but it works. Just wrap it for a few minutes when you come home and it seems to stay disconnected. The next time you get in your car, it will auto-pair.

3. One time with my phone in a backpack in the back seat, it took almost 10 minutes after I went over a speed bump before it auto-paired. *Most* of the times, it pairs within a minute of getting to my car. I'll strike this as a freak occurrence and update this review later if it reoccurs.

4. You have to hold the power button for a full 10 seconds before it turns off, but then again, I rarely turn it off, for reasons mentioned above

5. The charging port is on the bottom of the device, not on the side, this makes it very difficult to charge while mounted on the sun visor or on the clip.

How does it compare to other devices I've used?

================================================

1. I've owned two of the Motorola T-325 and that device has *EVERY* feature I have ever wanted, from caller-id-NAME-announce, auto on/off, automatic low battery warning, long battery life, easy to charge while mounted on the sun-visor, wonderful wonderful device BUT POOR RELIABILITY. One flat out broke and the second one seems to overheat in Texas, it will connect and disconnect 10 times while driving. Both occurred outside the warranty period. If the Motorola T-325 was more reliable I'd still be using it. Motorola has a newer version called the Roadster, but I'm seeing the same reliability issues in the reviews.

How does it compare to other devices I've researched?

=======================================================

1. For about $20 more, the Jabra Cruiser2 seems to match the Motorola T-325 that I used to love, but the Cruiser2 does not have perfect reviews and no auto on/off. The Cruiser2 does do caller-id-NAME-announce though. If the reviews were more consistently better, I would've considered the Cruiser2.

2. The Motorola Roadster is a little more, but I am hesitant because of my T-325 reliability issues also, a lot of 1-star reviews...

3. The Jabra Freeway is brand new, but 3 times the price! If the Jabra Freeway drops in price by 60% I would consider it it also has caller-id-NAME-announce, auto on/off, etc. Does not have exactly perfect reviews.

So until the next perfect device comes out with really good reviews, I decided to save money and get the SuperTooth Buddy. In the pursuit of hands-free, it gets the job done, minus some of the nice frills of more expensive units out there.

[Update 9-6-2011]

I have now returned my SuperTooth Buddy for several reasons:

A. The first time I needed to charge it, I charged it for several hours until the "halo" light turned green. The next day I used it fine. The second day, it would not turn on at all. I charged it up again and it seemed to work fine for a few days....

B. With my phone in the cupholder, it did not auto-pair for another 10 minutes, this has now occurred 3 times. Sure, I can turn the unit on/off and or toggle my bluetooth and make it pair, but I shouldn't have to, it should automatically pair when in range. For battery-savings, perhaps *MY* phone defaults to checking every 10 minutes if it doesn't find a device for a long while, or it could be the SuperTooth, who knows, but other devices like the T-325 (and BlueAnt S4 and Jabra Freeway) automatically turns itself off and on, so this was never an issue before.

C. I decided to return it when it wouldn't turn on again 2 more times. The second time it happened, it worked on the way home after a short trip doing errands. The third time, I got a little Sherlock idea, and put the device on the a/c vent to cool it off (even though it was not too hot to touch). After just a couple of minutes, the device then turned on and auto-paired and worked fine since. So my assumption is that if it gets too hot in your car, that the device won't power on. (You can test if it is on by hitting the "Up" volume button, when it reaches max volume level, you should always hear a beep, regardless of being paired. Holding down the power button should also beep on/off, too. In my cases, the device would never turn on or beep, etc.)

Final Parting Summary:

=======================

With the 30-day warranty period almost over, I decided I needed to return it ASAP given the reliability issues I've seen related to Texas Heat so far. Too much finagling involved to make it work; things should just work out of the box. I still think 3-stars is fair because those of you in a much milder climate, might have great luck with this. When it works (and turns on) it is a pretty decent no frills bluetooth speakerphone, especially for the price. Like another review mentions, if you're sitting on your couch one day and go to use your phone and hear nothing, it is probably because the bluetooth is still connected in your car! hehehe. This is probably why the other manufacturers added *motion-sensing* auto on/off...

I bought the Supertooth Buddy for my Mother in law, as I needed something easy to set up, and operate without too many bells and whistles, and the Supertooth Buddy is it! Personally I am getting tired of the technical "arms race" with electronic devices. The Buddy does it's job well without having to jump through hoops. I read the manual, explained it to my wife, and she set it up for her Mother, no problems! To me that is the true test, as my wife isn't a gear head. If she can set it up, and my Mother in law can work it, then it passes the test. It is plenty loud enough for conversations, and the magnetic visor clip allows the Buddy to be swapped from one side of the visor to the other in an instant if one needs to change the visor position. A great bluetooth device for those of us who just want something simple that works. It comes with a car charger and USB to Mini USB cable to charge the unit. It does not come with a home charger, though one can use the USB cable to charge it using your USB port on your computer. Standby time is 1000 hours, so the lack of a home charger shouldn't be an issue.

New laws necessitated that I use a bluetooth while using my cell phone in my car. Did not want to buy a really fancy one that did all kinds of things that were unnecessary for me. The reviews helped me pick this one. VERY easy to use. If I can figure out how to use this, ANYONE can! Not that I am a dummy, but there are more technical types than me in the world. Now that I have figured out how to use it, it does work great! Callers can hear me very clearly, and not the noise of the traffic all around me. I can hear the callers very well. When you get in to your car with your cell phone on, and the bluetooth function on, you'll hear a beep as the bluetooth unit syncs to your phone and you're good to go. If you want a very inexpensive but VERY good bluetooth unit for your car, this little unit is a GEM! Thanks!!!

I was fed up using bluetooth headsets with my iPhone. Everytime I seemed to want to use it, they were either not paired properly, battery dead or the person on the other end could not hear me properly.

So, I was looking for a hands free car kit. A full integrated one for my Audi A4 was about $400+. Too much.

So after some investigating, I came across this alternative.

What I really like about it, is that it just works. I charged it up using a USB mains adapter, 3 weeks ago, I paired it up with my iPhone (that took about 1 minute) and then clipped it onto my visor. I have not had to charge it since.

Whenever I walk up to the car, it beeps to say that it is speaking with my iPhone. From then on, it just works. Sound is clear in both directions. I just leave my Bluetooth on my iPhone 4 on. I know that when I step into my car, then it will automatically be working.

Duracell 852-1807 1,800 Watt Five Outlet Rechargeable Power Source

Duracell 852-1807 1,800 Watt Five Outlet Rechargeable Power Source
  • 1800-watt inverter with five 115V AC power outlets for operating multiple devices simultaneously
  • Built-in transfer relay provides reliable backup power capability
  • Digital LED display indicates battery capacity status and total wattage of the devices connected to the PowerSource
  • Sealed, non-spillable 60Ah AGM battery
  • Recharges from home AC wall outlet

Bought this recently from Amazon for $180.00 I will say its worth about that. I tried a few high wattage things in it like a hair dryer, Iron, coffee maker, just to see how long I could use it. These are things I could never think of using in a standard 1500VA UPS, (Which I have for comp and such) All of the devices ran well, the hair dryer probably sucked it down the fastest, (Set high 1500watts), lasted aout 7 minutes before the warning started going off. The unit ran about 5 more minutes on medium setting before the battery dropped to 20 percent. The battery did recover to 50% after turning off dryer, so high wattage appliances I think are a bit much for the batteries to output continuously.

The unit is heavy, about 60 pounds. For the money, I would buy again. I figure I should get about 6 hours on a computer with a flat panel attached. For most short power outages, this will get you by for a few necessities. Anything longer you will have to go generator.

The description reads as though you can use it for a fridge and other high wattage appliances, which I guess is true, but misleading as I would imagine a fridge would kill it in about 10 minutes or less.

All in all glad, I was able to purchase for the $180.00. If nothing else you can dry your hair when the power is out, and make coffee, without having to hook up the generator.

UPDATE:

So I wanted to update this review. The unit gave out after about 18-24 months. Cant tell exactly when it lost its capacity but it would last maybe 5 minutes on light load. I took the time to tear it apart and found three 12 volt 17ah SLA batteries wired in parallel. They were pretty much useless. Tried to bring them back but as most here know once an SLA battery gets near end of life it is almost impossible to get them back from the dead even with a good quality desulfator. I got lucky and found 3 new Panasonic replacements for $25ea on EBAY and installed those. (A good quality SLA battery in this range is usually about $70 bucks each). Unit is back up and running like new. I would assume most people would not attempt this nor probably should they. High risk of shock even with the unit unplugged. And many parts to disassemble/reassemble. If you do attempt, take lots of pictures as you break down and be carefull of wires. Doesnt matter how long or how many times you have handled electricity, only takes once.

UPDATE: After a few months sitting in the corner being charged, I tried it out today. Apparently there's at least one bad cell; a 600w load exhausts the batteries in about 45 seconds. So I revise my rating to ``piece of junk,'' niche or no niche. It needs a much better quality control on the batteries.

ORIGINAL Post:

Pros : about three times the run times of a comparable capacity UPS, based on battery capacity (3 x 17AH, vs typical 2 x 9AH in a 1500VA UPS). Maybe nice to have around to switch to when a regular UPS runs down in a long power outage. I got mine for $180, which would be a good deal in the UPS market. The current $380 would be too high for me.

Cons : a lot of cons. It's hyped as if it's going to help out in the gas generator alternative market, but has nowhere near the capacity you'd need in terms or runtimes. It could run a sump pump for an hour maybe (one cycle of my 1/2hp sump pump runs it down to 80% of charge, so 5 cycles would run it out completely), which isn't going to help much. For all this stuff, like refrigerator and so forth, you just need a gas generator.

The transfer time (80ms) is too slow for a computer when the power goes out. A UPS is ten times faster. No power conditioning.

Really heavy. A woman is not going to like dealing with it. Handles are convenient for the weight though. A Honda EU2000i 2000w gas generator weighs the same.

There's no powered-off charge-the-battery-anyway mode, and it consumes 10w when plugged in. Can only be powered off when not plugged in, so you'd have to establish a routine to keep the battery charged if it's not in regular use.

So perhaps its niche is as a backup UPS when the power has been off too long for the regular UPS. Plug the computer into this, then. When the power comes back, charge it back up and put it back in the closet.

It's a nice product, just one with no obvious use.

Get a gas generator for the sump pump and the refrigerator.

This item is a piece of junk. Mine gave up after a month, and it is not even used much, just lying in a corner being charged. What is worse, their customer service is more than a piece of junk too. They diagnosed the problem as a battery failure. Since this unit is heavy and I would have to spend over $50 to ship it, I requested that they just send me a new battery and I return the old one to them. But, no! they want the whole unit back. What happened to the customer is always right? And this item is not even worth $100, much less the stated price. For one, it wont hold a charge long, and it breaks easily. A small electric generator is a much, much better value. My advice to you, do not patronize anymore Duracell or Xantrex, their products are junk and their customer service a joke.

Want Duracell 852-1807 1,800 Watt Five Outlet Rechargeable Power Source Discount?

TO spend $500.00 on a product that will last maybe 2yrs in not worth it. 1st customer service in no help at all. I was told that my batteries went bad after less than 2yrs because I did not exercise them, meaning using it on and off to power down and back up. Three diffrent Customer reps told me this. With a Lead Acid battery this is not correct per asking several battery experts. Also the battery's are very difficult to remove and the instructions themselves say that after battery life is used up it's basically a toss away. The cheepest you can get 3 batteries for this unit to make it work is around $200.00. If your mother board goes no one can fix for under $400.00. Great idea but very very bad quality, bad customer service andno one can fix or repair. Too expensive for its short life.

I only used this product a few times. I had for about 1.5 years. During Hurricane Irene a really needed it to work. It said it had a full charge, but when the power went out it beeped and displayed an E03 fault code. I cannot reset it. It is no longer usable. I wasted my money. This was a poor investment.

The reasons that I bought this charger is because it has a docking stations which can be used to charge and store the unit when not in use. After the charging is completed, the docking station will enter a "floating charge" mode to prevent overcharging. Some other charger need to be monitored carefully since overcharging can damage the battery. With this unit, I can just leave it and forget it... ** UPDATE ** I originally wrote the glowing review below. This was a great product, while it lasted. Unfortunately, about 1 week after the 1-year warranty period ran out, the unit stopped accepting a charge. That is, I could not charge it either using the cradle or directly from the wall adapter. I called Schumacher and they could not offer me any help. A shame, but I can no longer recommend this device and I will be looking for a replacement.

UPDATE: I paid $88 for this when I purchased it in February, 2008. I see the price has increased, so I just wanted to note this difference so you take my comment about 'heck of a deal for the price' and 'comparison shopping' in the appropriate context. I am still very pleased with the unit but wanted to make clear that I am no longer completely certain that it's the best deal on the market. I have not recently done any comparison shopping to figure out if other units prices have changed.

Original review: Let me begin by saying that this is a sturdy, well-built piece of machinery. It also clearly can get the job done, period. My V6 Toyota Land Cruiser had a _completely_ flat battery, with a totally crudded-over positive terminal. I hooked this puppy up, and my engine ROARED back to life within 10 seconds of the connection being made. I haven't ever heard my engine start like that before, even when jumped from other jumper packs. Now, to comment on some other aspects of this equipment: It comes with a charging cradle, but you don't need to use it, because the AC adapter that plugs in to the cradle can also be plugged directly in to the jumper pack itself. So you can just stash the AC adapter in the car with the jumper pack, for mobile use. Also, this _can_ be used to power small appliances, but you'll need a cigarette-lighter adapter, because this doesn't have a regular outlet, only a cigarette-lighter outlet. Anyway, this is a heck of a deal for the price. I did a lot of comparison shopping to get the best value, and I'm very, very pleased.

I purchased this unit based on all the positive reviews, but unfortunately, I cannot say the same. I guess I must have received a defective unit. The main battery would not charge through the dock and the LED's on the dock were not in synch, as it showed full charge whether the main unit was attached or not, even before charging. The battery charged fine on its own and I concluded that either the dock itself or the battery contacts must be faulty. I could have done without the dock, but the idea of unprotected contacts being bare makes no sense. What made me decide to return it however was the unpleasant experience with Schumacher. After 3 days of calling, each time I was given the run around and they had no records of my issue (Like I was calling for the first time). Finally they decided I had to ship the entire unit (at my cost) so they can "test it". So much for customer service and warranty on a brand new unit out of the box. I decided to return it to Amazon and they paid for the return shipping. The 3 stars is a balance of 1-2 stars for the product, 0star for Schumacher, and 5+ stars for Amazon.

I am very impressed with this product as far as it's dependability and ease of use. I had a problem with a battery drain on my vehicle in which the battery would be dead every morning when I would go to start it. I used this product every day for a few weeks to jump off the car until we could find the source of the drain. It worked flawlessly every time I needed it. I had always been scared to jump start a battery, but with this product, it is so easy I didn't have any worries. I could even throw it in the trunk and take it with me when I thought I might need it.

I have had it about 6 months now and I love it! The peace of mind is well worth it!

  • Clean and silent high power in remote applications for the entire home
  • Overload protection and indicator
  • Auto reset short circuit protection
  • Low battery shutdown when DC voltage falls

Living off grid, I thought it would be a good idea to have a large inverter. This inverter seemed to work fine until summer came on. Any time the air temp got over 100F the inverter would overheat and shut down. Didn't seem to make any difference if it was under large load or practically no load. Cannot reccommend. Too much money for an inverter that only works only in cool weather.

Want Wagan 2483 10000 Watt Continuous Power Inverter Discount?

The Wagan 2483 Inverter is a super oversized product that cannot feasibly work to the parameters it is sold under, and here's why.

The Wagan 2483 Inverter is advertised as a 10,000-watt continuous use inverter. On the back pane, it has four hot-shoes and four grounds. This means that each post must carry up to 250-amps each, continuous, from the 12-volt deep cycle batteries that would power it. To even begin to build such a monster of an incoming battery system, you would have to use 1/0-gauge (that's one ought) wire for the main backbone, which is 1/3-inch in diameter (8.3mm) on each post connection. Considering that would then require two batteries per post input, you would have a serial-parallel circuit of at least 2-batteries in parallel feeding into each post, it would require at least 8-deep cycle batteries to power this inverter (at minimum) to it's rated capacity. At 100-amp discharge rate per battery, the inverter would completely drain each and all batteries in less than 5-minutes (reference: Peukert's curve data relative to 110-AH rated deep cycle batteries).

So, to reduce load to manageable levels that a battery could actually survive (approximately 20-Ah drain per), it would require 50-BATTERIES (we're talking car-sized deep-cycle batteries, set up in a massive array) just to feed this thing so it can run for an hour or so.

The feasibility of actually using this device to its maximum design capacity would therefore cost around $7500 in deep cycle batteries and $1200 for the inverter, or about $8700 total. Cost comparatively, you can get a very nice 10kw Diesel Generator for less expense, that will last for many years after this has eat you out of house and home, batteries, and burned itself up.

This device is for very specific and niche applications, such as solar or wind power arrays, multiple DC power in-feeds, and specific indoor applications where petroleum exhaust is not possible. It is NOT the most efficient means for alternative power applications for most users. Amazon offers much more applicable power sources by searching for 'GENERATOR'.

Hell yes! I had three of these units before. I have many vehicles with batteries, (4 trailers, 2 trucks, a car, a lawnmower) and some do not get enough use to keep the batteries charged. So, I now have 6 Battery Tender Plus chargers. I think I have my bases covered. I do, most definitely, recommend this product. I have relieved myself of a tremendous maintenance headache.

I had a Battery Tender Plus before I bought these three and if I had more toys I would buy more of the same. Works great!!!
