It. Charged my iPhone 5 from 40% to about 90% then did it again. Now the internal battery is dead and I am cranking it to change it back up. 1-2 min of cranking boosts my phone 1%.
For emergency power its great. If you plan on hand cranking it, make your call and find an outlet.
I will update once I have used it more, I have had it for 36 hours so far. But my power went out today so its a good test.
2.16.13 update:
I have used this from time to time over the last few months and it works reliably. I have tossed it into my lunch cooler and used several times at work to recharge my phone. The usb plug charges the device quickly. it works even faster if you use a non computer high wattage port! It holds its charge while not being used quite well, I had 70-80% after 3 weeks on non use.I got this because we live in Oklahoma and we lose power on a regular basis during tornado season. I wanted a way to be able to charge our cell phones in case of an emergency without being reliant on power, or on me plugging something in ahead of time to charge it.
In addition to the emergency aspect, we recently used this on a trip to New York City, when we were out and about for almost 15 hours in one day, seeing the sights. I threw it in my bag (fully charged already) and we used it throughout the day to keep our iPhones topped off.
This is a really smart investment for anyone with cell phones, tablets, or other small devices which can be powered via USB. I imagine that this will be especially useful during the first few weeks of the zombie apocalypse, and that's the most critical time for survival. Totally worth the price.Oh, but wait one if the scenario is doomsday the cell towers would be out. Well, at least you could power up your taser.
Overall a great product, gives about 30-40 seconds talk per minute of crank for my dumb (flip) phone.... I figure a pretty full charge in about 1 1/2 hrs.
I keep the prepaid dumb phone in the glovebox for the times I forget to bring my smartphone or it dies that is until this gadget came along. Great idea folks. Even if I do say so m'aself. No fee, charged for calls only when used, and for this low power needs. Fancy phones, well YMMV.I have been looking for a good hand crack cell phone charger for awhile. I have tried others but they were not able to charge a smart phone. I received this model today and so far I am impressed with the device. The product is strudy and compact. It took me approx 100 cranks to raise my battery level by one percent.Wanted to love this thing but USB input broke inside the casing making it impossible to charge with USB. As much as I'd like the cranking function, will replace with a battery only option as hand cranking is effectively a last-ditch, fairly unrealistic solution.
