I was looking for a small charger for charging mid-sized sealed lead acid batteries that I have in some lawn and garden equipment, a motorcycle, and a gate opener.
These are your typical batteries about the size of a small brick. These batteries typically have small plug-in connectors, rather than large automotive terminals, and so typical auto chargers don't work as they have clips that are way too large.
This is a three-level charger, so it can both charge up batteries that are low, and can maintain a battery (float charge) without overcharging it. Lead acid batteries need to be topped up every few months even if they aren't used, and this charger is good for that purpose. Failure to maintain batteries will cause early failure.
The charger also has pluggable ends, and comes with alligator clips and ring terminals, so the one charger can be used with different battery styles.
This charger is too small for charging dead automotive batteries, at least within a reasonable amount of time. It provides up to 0.9 amps of charging power. That's ideal for these mid-size batteries, but auto size batteries need larger 4 to 20 amp chargers.
A friend told me that this was the charger he most often saw used at kart races, and thought very highly of them.
The charger is also pretty small, so it doesn't take up much space on the shelf, or in the tool box.

This is a must have product to maintain batteries. I use 2 to maintain the ones in my motorhome in the winter, and another to use on the battery in my 74 Nova SS, the batteries are always in top conditionRead Best Reviews of Yuasa YUA1200901 Smart Shot Battery Charger Here
I received the charger today and couldn't wait to try it out on my deep cycle batteries. It works just great. The only thing I wish I had realized before I purchased it was that it plugs directly into the AC outlet....no cord. Other then that it seems to work. Went into charging mode when first plugged in then after batteries were up to full charge 13.4 volts it went into float mode. The instruction sheet says it would charge battery to 14.4 volts and then go into float mode but mine was 1 volt less then stated. 13.4 volts is about normal anyhow. In a nut shell I am very pleased with this unit so far, only time will tell how well it holds up. I would recommend this to a friend.Want Yuasa YUA1200901 Smart Shot Battery Charger Discount?
Bought this charger before Christmas to winterize my Yuasa motorcycle battery. So far so good, does exactly what it says and hook up is simple. Just plug to the wall and connect to battery terminals with clips or rings. Three led lights on the charger tells you the status of the charge. Pretty simple and idiot proof...I purchased 3 of these units, 2 for my motorcycles and 1 for the cars. They work well and even charge the car battery up pretty quickly. My son was working in the garage and had the car radio on for most of the day and ran the battery down.
Rather than pull out the bigger charger, I connected this one up and within an hour the battery was charged enough to start the car. I left it on overnight for added measure, but it did the job in short order. There are two ways to connect the charger. On the motorcycles, I used the quick-connect connector which bolts onto the battery posts for a semi permanent connection, allowing me to just plug up to the charger via a small plastic capped connector when the bike is parked for days. This connector on the bike tucks away in the frame of the bike when not in use. The other are two clips which clamp onto the battery posts. This one I used for the car. Both come with the charger.
