A good radio. Feels very solidly built, has a lot of features and is fairly easy to use once you have read the manual. Understandably, I had some experience with other Vertex Standard products prior to purchasing this radio, so that may be a factor.

It is a great backup to have in case you have a radio panel failure. The first time I took it flying with me, I tested the VOR navigation function of the radio to find it working very closely to the aircraft's radios.

A good tip is to actually program some memories in there, it is fairly easy, and will save you time in an actual emergency so you don't have to go looking at your charts.

It has a timer, both countdown and chronograph. One touch 121.5 key is a good one to have. Neat thing the radio also has is an inside temperature and a battery voltage sensor, so you can check how the radio is doing.

The belt clip is OK, it takes a few tries to learn how to use it. You have to put the radio in with the antenna pointing down, and to remove the radio you also have to point the radio down until you hear a snap, and then pull up.

Nice to know that the radio is waterproof, but I'm not going to try it.

The radio comes with a headset adapter (for standard GA plugs). Be sure to screw it into the plug, otherwise the connectors won't line up and it will not work.

Overall a good radio to have. Good to check the whether before getting to the airport and also for listening in to air activity at the airport while you are doing pre-flight and such.

In my personal opinion every pilot must carry a radio in case you lose communication in your airplane. This is Vertex is easier to use and configure. Nice back lit keypad helps you see it at night.

I would say I was very satisfied with the product I purchased the product and delivery was on time.

It is in very good device, its battery has a life too large, there has never been interference with buttons easy to use, finally, I am very happy with the unit.

When you touch any button, the lights automatically illuminate for easy nighttime use.

I always trust in the Amazon.

Obrigdo,

The odds of your primary radios going out may be small, but if they ever do, you'll wish you had a back-up. Enter the Vertex Standard VXA-300...

I ordered this from Amazon thinking I would only be receiving the hand-held transceiver and the AC power charger. If that was all I got for the price I paid I would have been happy, because the Amazon price I paid was a few $$ lower than what I would have paid elsewhere.

My first surprise upon receiving the unit was that it also came with...

12V Power adapter

Backup Power Alkaline Battery Tray

Headset Adapter

This is a complete package!

The quality of the unit is also a nice surprise. It's ruggedly built and looks and feels impressive. When you hold it in your hand, it feels substantial and solid.

I won't bother reviewing all the features as you can read about them in the product description, but they are all there and work as advertised.

If there is any downside to the unit it is the smallish type size used to identify the button features. Other than that, you'll have to spend some quality time with the manual and getting to know the units operation. There's plenty to get to know here!

Other brands will cost you 2X as much for comparable features. I'm not sure what you get for that extra cost, but if you're looking for an affordable alternative in a handheld transceiver, the Vertex is a great option!
