It does it slowly, and the iPad will say it's NOT charging, as others have observed. Caused most likely by being 5 watts, while the Apple charger is 10 watts. So the iPad WILL charge, especially when the screen is blank, but probably not while you're using it. The normal 10 watt charger will deliver a charge even while using the iPad.

So far, so good, and that's the only weak spot. It's small, light, and works fine. It's kind of funny that it ONLY works when there's a plug in the outlet ( since it has no prongs of its own), but who cares? Nice product, good for travel since it's so small and light.
