The Cobra units performed well for its intended purpose.

However, the 16-mile claim is way exagerated.

The only way you could communicate between two units at a 16-mile distance is if someone was at the top of a mountain with a clear sight to the second unit.

We were on a boat and could not communicate to shore after about 2 miles.

BEWARE! I bought these for my sons 4th birthday. The charger shorted and melted. He's pretty lucky he wasn't holding on to the end that plugs into the walky or Cobra would be facing a lawsuit right now. I bought them at Toys R US.

Used them on a road trip to communicate between two vehicles. They worked great up to a mile or so, maybe a little less. For the intended purpose this was more than enough.

My son recently purchased the cx190 and it was awesome. He took it to Canada and it linked up with his Canadian friends, who had various brands and models of walkie-talkies, had great range and clarity. I spotted these, the cx105 and thought "Oh, Gee, half the price, what a good deal." NOT ! I thought I would never get them out of the package, almost cut myself on the tough plastic, had to use heavy shears and rip and pull. Finally after getting them out I had to put in non included batteries. The non removable belt clip is so close I could hardly get the battery door open. I had to get my husband's help to get the door back on. After all that effort I was so disappointed in the quality, nothing near as nice as the Cobra cx190 which comes with rechargeable batteries and a wall charger. Cx190 are beefier units with other additional features. So, spend a little more and get a better set. I recommend the cx190 from my experience.
