New Universal Apple iPod USB Charger Kit - USB Retractable Hotsync Cable - USB Home Travel Charger - USB 12V Cigarette Lighter Charger for iPod Classic, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and All iPods w/ Dock Connector
  • 3-in-1 bundle deal
  • Includes: iPod Dock Connector
  • Includes: USB Home Charger
  • Includes: USB Car Charger
  • Compatible with all apple iPod/iPhone players except shuffle series, does not work with third gen iPods w/dock connector

Despite the claim that this product is compatible with all iPods w/Dock connectors except shuffle, it is not compatible with third gen iPods w/Dock connectors. As to the product itself, the plastic is cheap and flimsy and the dock connector does not fit well even on later model iPods. Don't bother.

Nice kit for the car and home. Price was great and it shipped fast. Really happy. This is so much better than having to wind up my cord charger that I got with my Ipod touch

I found one of these kits locally (for several dollars more) to use with the families latest generation ipods, four 4g and 8g Nanos and two 80g Classics. The cable works as well as the OEM cable to sync or charge. The power adapters work perfectly. On the Classics the charging symbol does not come on but they are charged nonetheless. This is an inconsequential annoyance--the cost/benefit ratio remains well on the plus side.

Xantrex Technologies 852-2071 Xpower AC/DC Powerpack Solar With 400 Watt Inverter, Two AC Outlets, U

Xantrex Technologies 852-2071 Xpower AC/DC Powerpack Solar With 400 Watt Inverter, Two AC Outlets, USB Port, And Digital DisplayIf the Xantrex Xpower Powerpack Solar lived up to its specifications, I would rate it 5 stars and consider it well worth the money. That's why I bought it in the first place. Unfortunately, its performance falls short of the manufacturer's claims.

The overall design of the product is very nice. I had considered building something similar based on a how-to article in Popular Science, but the Powerpack is so nicely packaged for only a couple dollars more, I chose to buy it.

The Powerpack disappoints in the amount of energy stored in its battery that is available to power other electronic devices. The battery is specified as 12 volts and 10 amp-hours. As such, I was expecting to get as much as 120 watt-hours from it, but I barely get half that.

As a test, I fully charged the battery using the included AC adapter. By "fully", I mean the unit claimed to be charged. I then ran the built-in LED lights. The manual claims they should run for 48 hours. They ran 27.5 hours for me.

I assumed this performance reflected a bad unit and exchanged it. The new unit performs similarly. Either the battery in the unit performs poorly, or the electronics to monitor and control the battery state-of-charge are weak.

As another example of the poor performance, I charged the unit completely (again based on its built-in indicator that charging is done). It indicated 100 percent charge when I turned on the AC or DC output, but as soon as I plugged in any load, it almost immediately dropped to 70 or even 60 percent. Soon after the unit's indicator dropped to 40 percent, the unit shut itself down.

So, on the one hand, this is a nice unit to carry around, and it does slowly-but-surely charge the internal battery using the included 5 watt solar panel. It does a fine job charging cell phones and iPods, and a barely acceptable job charging a notebook computer. Compared to its specifications, and for that matter my previous experience with the Xantrex Powerpack Mobile Mini, however, the product is a disappointment.

The product information should include these crucial tidbids, which you only find out AFTER buying (by reading the detailed owner's manual): 1) you cannot use it while you are charging it, and 2)if you want to charge it using the sun, it takes 45 HOURS (YES -that's HOURS). I used it at an outdoor festival to power a laptop, and -even thought the manual estimated it would last for up to 4 hours, it pooped out after 1.5 hours. After that, I unplugged and charged it in the sun for a while. It got a lot of interest from people at the festival, who thought it was cool. I think it's cool too. I just wish it worked better.

Many Cons

Battery not "user replaceable" (User manual recommends throwing the whole powerpack out when the battery can no longer take a charge)

If you do take the unit apart to replace the battery, it is an uncommon type not available at battery specialists.

Solar panel is too small to adequately charge the unit. Useful only as a top-up charger.

My unit has locked up twice, where the buttons and display do not work and you need to take it apart to disconnect then reconnect the battery to reboot the internal microcontroller.

Very difficult to take apart (to reboot the unit or change the battery).

AC power adapter puts out too much voltage, causing the unit to complain about an overvoltage situation when it is left plugged in when fully charged.

Loses its charge quickly when not plugged in.

LED lights on both sides of the unit are wired to come on at the same time. No switch to disconnect one bank to double the runtime as a light source.

As a warning, if you do have one, do not leave it off its charger for longer than about 1 month or you can damage the battery.

Length:: --:-Mins

This is a great little unit, I have used it a few times to test just how long it lasts and it never failed to impress. The only problem with this unit is that the digital display is highly inaccurate in displaying the batteries charge level when anything is plugged in and the ac output of devices under 50 watts. I have not experienced any error code problems. I've used this unit to power a small table fan, a laptop computer and some other small draw items. Here are my run times:

Small ac table fan = 3-4 hours on low setting, 3 max on low setting

12 volt dc fan = 5-7 hours on only high setting (0.8 amps 10 watts from walmart)

13.3" macbook = 2.5 hours with lots of processing and display on full brightness

4 hours max with low brightness and light web browsing only (full battery)

acer aspire one = 5-6 hours on low brightness and light browsing (battery charged prior)

netbook

Items that will not run long on this powerpack:

1. powerful entertainment or gaming laptops

2. desktop computers

3. big ac fans

4. high draw dc appliances such as a dc coffee maker, hair dryer and spotlight

5. items with heating elements in general EX: coffee maker, heating blanket, electric heater of any sort (expect 3 min or less run time, just don't even try to plug any of the mentioned items in AT ALL!)

6. big lcd tv's or any crt tv (yes even the 13" rated for this product)

Items that will be damaged by this device due to modified sine wave ac output:

1. rechargeable batteries (your laptop will not be damaged because it has a special transformer (I.E. the power brick)

2. nightlights of any sort

3. rechargeable electric shavers

4. any devices that specify they will only work with pure sine wave power (grid power = pure sine wave. keep in mind that 99.9% of all powerpacks use modified sine wave for ac power)

Bottom line: Don't treat it as if it is a generator or as if you still have power coming in off the grid in an emergency, be conservative and it will last the night. If you have never owned a power pack like this, keep in mind it's just a battery and the solar panel won't make it function like a generator. If you don't know solar, keep in mind this unit has the largest possible solar panel that will fit on the unit, that doesn't mean it will charge in a day like your solar accent lights outside. A full day of sunlight will give you 10-20 percent of overall charge (use this to charge your cellphone or run the efficient built in lights at night). You need to charge this unit every 1-3 months. Failure to do so will cause the internal sla agm battery to sulfate and refuse to charge(your warranty is voided with xantrex for neglect). Realistically don't plug devices in that use more than 70-80 watts if you want reasonable run time (this is true with most powerpacks, even the huge ones). Large items should not be used at all in an emergency power situation. If you want more power and longer run times, buy a 400 watt inverter for your car (please don't kill your car's battery, start it up) or buy a $100-$150 2 cycle generator, especially if you need power for medical devices. This unit should last you at least 5 years before the battery needs to be replaced (10 ah agm battery, nut and bolt terminals, tall style battery = $29 online) A lot of powerpacks use this battery. My campbell hausfeld power pack with this battery is 3 years old and counting with the same battery (runs great too, no loss of power) and my past devices using sla batteries lasted an average 7 years before needing replacement. Treat your battery right and it can last just as long. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll try to respond asap or whenever I can check my inbox.

You can use it to charge your laptop, PDA and your cell phone. But it's not strong enough to even just power a 12" fan.

Belkin F8M160 Power Pack 4000

  • includes 6" USB To Micro-USB Cable

Gadgets are all around us today from tiny music players to GPS navigators to cell phones to bluetooth headsets to the latest tablet computers... and the one thing they all have in common is they all need power. I know it's happened to me, and I'm sure it may have happened to you you need to charge that phone or your bluetooth headset or you're on a plane and your shiny new tablet is running low on power and you don't have the charger or even if you do, you have no place to plug it in! Well, this may be a helpful item for you. This compact, lightweight battery pack carries 4000mAh of portable power. That's enough to fully charge my power hungry BlackBerry Bold 9700 over two times. It supplies it's power through two standard USB ports and you can use them both simultaneously. I've already used it to charge both my Cowon S9 and my BlackBerry Bold 9700 at the same time! I also used it to power my HP TouchPad last night when it's battery was getting low the Belkin didn't have enough power to flat out charge the TouchPad, but it could run off this external battery for hours. For most devices I use today, plugging into this portable battery is the same as plugging them into their charger. The important thing to consider is that this device supplies USB power. So if your phone or GPS or bluetooth or whatever has a mini or micro USB plug, you can likely power it or charge it from this battery. But if your portable devices require an older-type power plug, usually some type of barrel connector (round), this portable battery will not work for you. The Belkin battery pack charges in about three hours and there are four bright blue LED lights to indicate the charge level of the battery. And that brings me to the only thing I don't like about it it comes with a large, obnoxious wall transformer to charge itself with! It is ironic when you consider how slim and compact this battery pack is, that it should come with such a large, foul wall tranformer! For me, it pretty much kills traveling with the transformer. That power adapter needs to be much smaller IMO. Aside from that gripe, I can see keeping the battery charged and throwing it into my attache case. It's a little extra piece of mind knowing I have extra power with me if I need it for my phone, my pad, my gps, my bluetooth headset or my music player!

Update: 2011-02-21

The reason for this update was to remove a star from my rating (three stars down from four) based on the price of this unit (currently $99). Comparable units with a similar size, weight and even higher capacity are down to as little as $25. I simply cannot justify the price of this unit in comparison.

This device proved itself to be very useful and showed that it works quite well. I charged it as the instructions say for 8 hours before first use, and then it takes about 3 hours to charge after that. It has 4 blue LEDs on it that blink and when all 4 are solid that indicates a full charge. As it decreases the amount of lit LEDs drop so you are always aware of how much charge the device is holding. This is a good indication function. It is charged by using the AC power cord that comes with it, and it also has 2 USB cables with different size ends on them for use on devices that have different sized charging inputs on them.

I took it with me when I was out with my 2 nephews when they visited. One of them has a Metro PCS phone that he texts constantly on, and the other has an iPod that is attached to him at all times. I was able to use the Belkin 4000 to not only recharge both those devices but my Kodak Easy Share M580 digital camera as well during our day out. Now the devices were not at total dead battery, but very low, and the Belkin boosted them all up for use for the entire day. Having this saved the trouble of needing 3 separate power cords and use of an AC outlet. Also the Belkin has 2 USB charging outputs so you can charge 2 separate devices at the same time, which is also a plus as this eliminated them fighting over who was gonna get their device charged first and who would have to wait. Not having to listen to 2 teenagers fighting is a blessing in itself.

Also the size of the device is good, it is small enough to travel easily yet not so small it can be misplaced by accident.

The only reason I didn't give this product a 5 star rating is due to the fact that the AC power adapter that is used to charge the device is much larger than it needs to be and the design of it is not great. A 12 volt DC charger can be made much smaller, and also the charger has what is called a 'barrel connector' that slides onto the AC device that actually has the prongs on it that allow it to plug into the wall. It is my opinion this extra piece is not needed, the AC adapter should have prongs on it like a regular plug and not need a small slide on attachment that can get lost or damaged making the cord useless. Also the price for the device is a little high. However, Belkin makes quality products and maybe the higher price compared to others is due to the fact it works better and holds a charge longer than the cheaper models similar to it. This I am not sure of.

I find this to be a very useful device, and great for the person who might need to recharge something while not near a power source or without the cable at the time.

I was recently gifted an iPod Touch which I soon discovered drains its battery fairly quickly. So it was perfect timing when I was able to snag one of these a few days later. On the packaging it claims to provide 4 cell phone charges or 2 smart phone charges. Here are the results I got:

1) iPod Touch charged from 20%->100%

2) iPod Nano charged from 0%->100%

3) iPod Touch charged from 0%->100%

4) iPod Touch charged from 15%->50%

At that point the Power Pack finally ran out of juice. So it does deliver as promised.

It's very compact, only marginally bigger than an iPhone 4. That makes it ideal for tossing into a backpack and carrying around for spare power. It has a nice black matted finish. I forgot to time it exactly, but it took roughly 3 hours to fully charge. As another reviewer noted, the power adapter is pretty large. It has a simple 4 led display which displays the power level. It's usually best to press the reset button when plugging in a device for charging. Sometimes it starts charging as soon as I plug in a device, other times I need to press the button first.

The one downside is that it is rather expensive compared to the competition. I haven't tried other brands, but there are alternatives that have very high ratings and cost significantly less. If it were priced more competitively, I would definitely give it 5-stars.

Update 10/22

I've noticed that the LEDs which indicate battery power aren't real accurate when the device is in use. When I plug in my iPod I often get 3-4 bars, indicating it is mostly full. But then it dies relatively soon. When I plug it back in to recharge, it shows it is charging from 1 bar, indicating I had drained it completely. This doesn't affect the runtime as it still seems to be giving me the appropriate amount of charge, I just can't depend on the indicator to accurately reflect the amount of power left.

Want Belkin F8M160 Power Pack 4000 Discount?

Conceptually, this is a great idea. However, it has a non-standard connector for the power supply -which means if you have an iPod, an iPhone, an Android device, a MiFi, an iPad, a digital camera, an ebook reader -all with their own unique power cord, you have to make room for YET ANOTHER cord on your charging table.

The smaller version Belkin Portable Power Pack 2000 for Tablet, Smartphone, and more uses the same micro USB connector to charge so even if you have the SAME Type of product from Belkin that is designed to perform essentially the same function, you still need TWO different power supplies.

No thanks -I'll just buy extra chargers for my gizmos and gadgets and stash them in my car, office, home and anywhere else I might spend a significant amount of time.

Update "Power Pack Saves the day!" On a recent trip with 3 changes of planes, my iPhone conked out. I hooked it up to the Power Pack, and it almost immediately re-charged the iPhone battery. Up until now, I've been using it as a supplemental power source, but it works wonders as an almost-instant charger.

While airports are getting better about having charging stations for portable devices; trains are not. A trip to NYC for me involves a drive to New Haven and a ride on Metro North to Grand Central. From there I usually walk to my destination as long as it's no further than a mile or so. Often, my trip involves both my iPhone and MacBook Pro. On the train, I can both work on my computer and listen to music on my iPhone with both plugged into or recharged with my Belkin Power Pack. I have run out of battery power before I got the Belkin just listening to music on my iPhone. If the trip involves the use of my computer in a presentation in NYC, I can still do touch-ups and practice runs on the train ride in.

Now that airlines have very few amenities, like new movies, I can either take a NetFlix DVD or download a flick from iTunes to my MacBook for in-flight entertainment. DVDs really drain batteries since they require a mechanical movement; so I'd probably opt for an iTunes rental for $4 or $5. On a X-country or overseas flight, I can keep the flight short by enough movies to fill in my time from take-off to touchdown. Likewise, if I want I can plug in my computer to the Belkin and my iPhone into the computer.

Of the features on the Belkin F8M160 Power Pack 4000, I like the LCD lights the best. Once my phone and computer start getting low on battery power, I can easily see how many of the 4 LCD lights are lit. All four indicate full power and one light means I'd better get to a charging station. On even a short layover to change planes, the Belkin can fire up pretty quickly. It took about 15 minutes to initially to bring it to full power out of the box. My second favorite feature is the dual ports for simultaneously using/recharging my computer and phone. If my wife wants to re-charge as well, I can always use the two ports on the Belkin and a USB port on the computer to run everything at once.

I put the power pack in my computer case, along with the recharging cables and adapters--and the computer itself. I'm not crazy about the big fat AC/DC Power Supply Adapter, and I'd like a smaller, lighter one. However, the Power Pack itself is pretty light, and with the whole kit, it fits nicely into my computer case. So, I'm very happy with it so far and looking forward to my next trip to the City.

Bought this for a 5 day backcountry ski trip. The XTG did get a recharge in the sun, and it did recharge my phone somewhat. I only give it 3 stars because it does not have enough power to recharge my phone to even 50%. So it works, and I will use it again, but it was not quite as successful as I hoped.

More positively, the built in flashlight works great and can be used for a surprisingly long time. I would give that function 5 stars, but my main purpose was recharging my phone.

I bought this in order to charge my Droid Razer and it does great. I use my razer outdoors in conjuction with the Delorme Inreach so my phone dies fairly quickly. This helps out alot. The clasp on the top of the device is maybe more for hanging the charger in the sun but i wouldnt recommend clipping it to a pack and expect it to be there later. The lights on the device are very bright and basically take away the need to pack a flashlight. Great product for a very reasonable price. I hope this review helps you in you decision to buy or not.

I received this on time and in perfect condition, thanks for that. I wanted a product exactly like this for charging my T-mobile my touch 4g. When using the gps on the phone my phone battery dies within just a few hours. I fully charged it after receiving it and the battery light turned red when charging and turned green when fully charged. I then started charging my phone which was nearly dead and after approx 3 hours the recharging device died and the red indicator went out. I then plugged the charger in to my computer via usb and left it overnight (approx 10 hours). The red light is still on and its not fully charged. (I just figured it would charge after like 5 hours). I tried charging it using the solar panel but the charging indicator would not come on. All in all I think it lacks the performance I was looking for but for $30 maybe I expected to much.

I'm surprised this does not have better reviews, but it may be due to expectations of the unit. No the solar will not charge your phone to 100%, this unit is for emergency use and can potentially charge your device up to 50% under the best scenario. I did my own tests with the unit and using an extended phone battery was able to recharge it to 20% quickly if the unit was left outside on a normal sunny day. I dropped the unit from a height of 3 feet on to a hard surface and it landed on its side. Where it hit the orange plastic piece popped out and was easily snapped back into place. I retested all the features multiple times, including the solar function and noticed no issues with the unit.

In my opinion, for such a small unit it comes with multiple useful features and can keep you connected or give you enough power to make the necessary calls needed in many types of scenarios. While there may be other choices for an emergency or solar charger, this unit is small and lightweight, which is perfect for those who are concerned about the amount of weight they carry, especially in a backpack.

Pros:

Cost

Small size

Lightweight

Multiple features and options for charging

Cons:

Devices may recharge up to 50% under the best scenario, but expect more of a 20-40% range with most devices.

5 MINUTE REVIEW (10 second review is below)

==================

CHARGER:

Has 1 USB port like on computers and 1 micro USB port like on your everyday android smartphone. The cable that it comes with plugs into both of these USB ports so you can use it as a parallel charger (charge the charger and your phone same time). Just plug your phone charger in the solar charger's micro port, then plug the cable from the regular usb port on the solar charger and the other end of the cable to your phone. Now both are devices are being charged simultaneously!

This device charges my android once and dies. Good, considering it's only 2 AA batteries and a .25W solar panel. It takes 2 days (YES I SAID TWO) of FULL sunlight for this to get to 75% charged. Which is also only as much as the solar panel can charge it. So unless you charge it like you charge your phone (via USB or AC outlet) then the charge LED will never go green (100%). The best conditions to use this in, POWER OFF your phone, charge the phone while the panel is in full sunlight, remove when phone is done to stop trickle, and you might be able to charge twice this way.

Charging non-droid phones you can do about 5 no problem. I have a verizon flip and a tracfone slider and they never drain the battery in the charger. They also have a 3 week standby where as a droid usually has about a day. So, if you got a cheap phone then this is a great buy for you!

FLASHLIGHT:

Beam is bright and with built in pocket clip on opposite end can illuminate a whole room when clipped to a backpack or belt loop for hands free operation. First click = Beam, second = SOS beam, third = 10 LED lantern bright, fourth = 10 LED lantern dim, fifth = OFF. I clipped the light to the center roof part of my tent and left it on all night from around 6pm until 6am. I forgot to put it in the sun that day and went back to it that evening again figuring it would be dead. To my surprise it actually lasted another whole night. So 24 hrs with the 1 LED beam.

The 10 LED lantern on the other hand is a lot brighter in smaller areas, easier on the eyes for reading, but drains the battery faster too. On the bright setting I got about 8 hrs constant before it started it's slow dim to dead process (which took about another hour or two before it fully died). On the dim setting, you can expect to get 12 to 16 hours before it starts dim(mer) to dead.

OTHER INFO:

If you want to prolong the life of this device, let it die COMPLETELY, then charge it FULLY (USB or AC). And by fully, I mean turn the lantern on high and let it run out if it needs it. Doing this will give the batteries inside it longer battery memory.

Also, you could upgrade the batteries in it by unscrewing the 4 tiny phillips screws. Sanyo 2700mah AA batteries (which are sold here on AMAZON) would pretty much double your devices life, but ALSO DOUBLE it's charge time. Well worth it if you want to use it for high powered devices like portable cameras or android phones or if you just want to store a larger charge for your other devices.

10 SECOND REVIEW

Android Emergency Power Supply Barely...

Mifi 2200Again, barely enough to charge once.

12MP Camera Some have 4 AA high powered batteries in them and this charger has two weak ones. Do the math. Not happening without upgrade.

Motorola LR-Radios Charges 3 5 per day.

Non-Android Phone Very good product for traveling, multiple charges...

Flashlight beam/SOS 24 hours of constant light or emergency signaling (that's figuring you don't let it see sun during the day, if you do charge it then it should go almost indefinitely.)

Flashlight lantern bright/dim 8/16 hours constant light. (Same disclaimer as above, charge it and it should go indefinitely.)

REMEMBER: All this device has is 2 AA rechargeable batteries in it. Total each battery it's about 1300ma solar charged or 1800ma when charged via USB or AC. So if you can, charge it with your phone charger until the light turns green for the highest possible charge strength. Upgrade will take if from 1300-1800 to 2000-2700mah each battery. See longer review for more details how to upgrade.

Only CON is no color options. Although the bright orange does make it highly visible and easy to find. So it's kinda a PRO so you don't lose it.

This guy has operated as expected had it for about a month so far, I have it mounted in my boat charging two trolling motor batteries.

Power Wheels battery charger, 6 volt, 4AH, for blue battery.

Power Wheels battery charger, 6 volt, 4AH, for blue battery. We visited my parents last Christmas and they gave my little boy a Kawasaki Power Wheels Bike by them. I Charged the battery and when we returned home we lost the charger. The battery lasted a lot so I was looking for the charger and the Amazon description (color of the batteries and the Voltage) helped me a lot. The new charger arrived and it also has some recommendations so we the parents do not forget when charging the battery. The charger worked perfectly fine. I recommend this product and its seller.

Well my wife and I purchased the Jeep Barbie for my granddaughter, thinking that we had got a real deal on the Jeep, because we had brought it from a yard sale. Well due to our surprise the battery charger was missing from the jeep... I mention this to a friend of mines and he told me about amazon.com, now I have always been skeptical about going on line and making a purchase, well after doing some searching and carefully checking out the reviews that amazon.com had received, I figured what did i have to loose, once I was able to go and locate the type of charger that i needed which amazon made totally easy for me to do. The rest of the steps were a piece of cake for me do, just as easy as one two three, I was really impressed with the way things worked out for me,I was giving a conformation number, I was told thru my E-mail when my charger would be shipped out and when I should be receiving the charger... though out ever thing I was totally satisfied with everything, from the time I place my order right up the time i received it... I would highly recommend amazon to anyone of need.... and I will be using them over and over again. Thanks amazon...

The battery pack is much better than the no-name batteries found on ebay and they have a better warranty.

The pack comes with the cable connector and is ready to install. I'm a long-time computer serviceman and have replaced a lot of UPS batteries and I must say these are at the top of my list.

The battery arrived very well protected in 3 business days from Chrome battery. The wiring and connector on the battery appear to be of a quality equal to the wiring and connector on the UPS side. The 2 batteries (RBC7 is 24 volts requiring 2, 12 volt batteries in series) seem to be held together very securely with foam tape. I can't compare the Chrome battery to the original because I bought the UPS used without a battery.

I have not yet tested the capacity and don't know if I will. It arrived at a 40% (2 out of 5 lights) charge and took a few hours to reach 100% (5 out of 5 lights). I expect the battery would've charged pretty quickly if it didn't have a decent capacity.

Hopefully I'll remember to post an update after a year or 2 regarding longevity.

CTEK Multi US 4.3 Battery Charger

CTEK Multi US 4.3 Battery ChargerI bought this charger to maintain my car's battery and it does a good job of maintaining battery health if you have a healthy battery that is. The charger has a series of LEDs that show what stage of charging/maintenance it's currently in, which makes it easy to track the charge status of the battery. The only downside is that my battery had a bad cell, but the charger didn't detect this. When I came to start the car, it wouldn't turn over. Since the charger only monitors voltage, it can't detect failures of this type. So, I'm deducting one star from my rating it would be great if a failed cell triggered an error condition in the charger.

Best $60 I spent this year, works very well, saved me from buying new batteries for two of my Cars.

This is the best charger I have ever used to maintain the Battery in my play vehicle (Corvette). Some times this car is not driven for a few months and I have gone through sevral cheap trickle chargers and even a "Battery Tender" but none of them have the technology to properly test and maintain the Optima in my Corvette. I would highly recommend this Item to anyone who wants the best.

PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet

PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet
  • Converts 12-volt DC power from your vehicle battery to 110-volt AC power
  • Power AC devices rated up to 150 watts
  • Three AC outlets and USB port
  • 12-volt power port
  • High/low voltage protection; over temp and overload protection

I bought this based on a recommendation from a co-worker who purchased this at a truck stop. I am so glad that I did. Its like a power strip...for your car! The 3 Edison plugs are spaced just right so that you can fit 3 wall warts, the USB power is a major plus, and the car power port on the other end is of course a necessity. I love the rubber cover for the USB jack for when it is not in use (It is made of thick, durable rubber, and mine doesn't even show signs of wear).

As part of my job, I often have to drive a truck. That being said the cord is long enough to either set the strip on the dash, or the floor. I have never had a problem with heat, fan noise, or power draw. It is also pretty heavy duty, especially considering it doesn't weigh very much at all. The strip has 4 screw slides on the back for more permanent mounting.

My only complaint (Other than not having more outlets, which just isn't practical running off of a car power port), is that the L.E.D. indicating that it is turned on could be brighter.

This item is awesome for long trips, or for when you have to wait in the truck for a long period. I would say this item is a must for truck drivers, long trips with kids, or those people with tons of gadgets. 5 out of 5, I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I've recently broke one of these by accidentally smashing the plug. Entirely my fault (not the product's). But it works so good, I bought another. Its so nice to charge and use a laptop (and other gadgets) while traveling. I've tried a few 100watt inverters to power my 85 watt computer, they have all failed me. This 150watt inverter does what I want.

The bad...

The fan is noisy, but so are most all inverters of this sort. Plugging it in is a little finicky to get a connection it could be my car's receptacle. The power light is dim; tough to see on sunny days.

The good...

I use this to power either of my two power-hungry laptops. It has never flinched nor got very warm. This item seems more durable than average. It has a heavy gauge power cord that is about 2.5 to 3 feet in length. The power light is dim; doesn't light up the car at night. The 12volt receptacle is nice.

Other...

The long shape may not work for everybody. I leave it in my car's jockybox, and it barely fits. I bought mine from Town Pump (gas station) for a higher price than Amazon's.

We were concerned that it would be powerful enough to run the PC but it worked perfectly. With 3 teenagers on a long road trip it was critical we had enough juice to power all the toys and cell phones. It powered my 17" Sony Vaio PC. We had a Samsung Tab plugged into the PC. Also kept a windows phone charged using the USB. The price on Amazon was incredible compared to the price in a the stores. I also like the "Power strip" layout and the Long cord. It could reach from the front cigarette lighter to the back seat. I also really like all the outlet options, I can charge anything anywhere. I'm going to start taking this on business trips as well. We are always having issues with enough power outlets for our PC and Iphones.

Want PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet Discount?

The PowerDrive RPPD150 150-Watt DC to AC Power Inverter Strip w/USB Port and 3 Outlet is a decent power inverter. It allows you to charge most things on the go. If you have a larger laptop make sure you only charge it while it's off, otherwise the inverter gets a little rough on your car battery. But if you have something like a small camera or cell phone that needs charged this works great.

Solidly built, well designed and I tested it with a volt meter and found it to produce 117 VAC (AC volts) on all three outlets. I did not test the 12VDC port or the USB port. The manual is well written and informative. The power cable is 4 feet long.

This unit produces a modified square wave to approximate a sine wave and product literature claims this is sufficient to power "most" laptops and electronic devices safely (some electronics are very sensitive to wave form). I will be using the PowerDrive to power a recently purchased Dell Vostro laptop. My expectation is that this advertised to run electronic devices safely so I'd be surprised if it didn't.

I would like to thank TimeTec for sending me a sample of the Xamp2 to review.

INTRO

-----------

This is the second power bank I have had the pleasure of reviewing, the first being the RAVPower Power Bank. I would like to first review the TimeTec Xamp2 in its own right, and then do a short comparison between the two.

IN THE BOX

-----------

Inside the box, you will find the Xamp2 power bank, an apple-like wall plug (1a), two extension cables and 5 connectors. The bank also came with a mesh-like bag which is a nice addition, but offers protection only from scratches. You will also find instructions, although this is mostly self-explanatory! The device came pre-charged for me, but I wouldn't count on it. This power bank does not come with Apple's proprietary charging cable, probably to avoid the licensing fees. This didn't affect my rating, but it seems to be a much-asked question on power bank reviews.

DESIGN

-----------

The Xamp2 is nice and small measuring just 4"x2.5"x0.75". It is relatively light, and while you probably won't want to carry this around in your pocket, it won't weight down a bag/purse.The power bank has two output USB ports, one rated at 1a and the other at 2a. The 2a port is very helpful for charging tablets such as the iPad, that otherwise would charge quite slowly. The Xamp2 uses a Micro-USB port, something which other power banks also seem to have. This was a disappointment as I prefer to carry as few cables as possible in my bag, and with my iPhone cable, mini-USB for card reader/camera, proprietary cable for bluetooth and several others, it's getting a little crowded. I took half a star away from the final rating due to this factor. Another little feature is an LED flashlight that can be turned on my double-clicking the ON button. This is actually rather handy, and although has little to do with a device charger, has been useful due to the fact that I keep this charger in my night-stand. All of the included cables and connectors seem of reasonable quality personally I prefer white cables so that was a plus for me!

PERFORMANCE

-----------

Charging the device: with the included wall plug, it did take right around nine hours (as advertised). Using my iPad wall charger, that dropped to around seven.

Charging my iPhone: from 9% battery, my iPhone 4 took two hours to charge. Not too bad at all, and I was using it a little to check text messages while charging. I haven't tested this, but with a +-1400mah iPhone 4 battery, you should get around five charges from a full Xamp2 charge.

COMPARISON TO THE RAVPower Power Bank

-----------

Capacity: 8400mAh (Xamp2) vs. 10000mAh (RavPower)

Size: 4"x2.5"x0.75" (Xamp2) vs. 5.4"x3"x0.6" (RavPower)

Versatility: 2xUSB out (Xamp2) vs. 2xUSB out (RavPower)

Charging: Micro-USB (Xamp2) vs. Proprietary (RavPower)

Both include important connectors.

RavPower does not include wall charger.

OVERALL

I would probably rate this product at 4.5 stars if I was able to, but I haven't rated it as 5 merely because I reserve that for products that I would change little on or exceed my expectations. Without using a (now) rarely-used micro-USB connector, this would truly be a 5-star product. This is really rather good though, and I struggled with how to rate it. It has been a lifesaver several times, and is perfect for travelers, hikers or business people on-the-go who may not have access to a wall socket or computer to charge their phone or tablet. It has earned a permanent spot in my computer bag, and has replaced the RavPower that I received simply due to the fact that it is smaller and lighter!

Happily recommended as a very nice product to own!

Buy Timetec Xamp 5600mah High Capacity External Battery Pack Power Bank Charger with Flashlight for Appl Now

The timetec power bank charger has two different amperage USB ports so that you can charge your iPhone and iPad at the proper level of amp output simultaneously (you just need 1 apple cable as the universal adapters only comes with one apple attachment). Having both of my devices about half full they charged for about an hour and now they are both full battery and the timetec shows only 1 indicator light out of 4 down. Meaning I could probably charge both devices from nothing twice before this timetec would loose its charge. Wonderful to have around with me on the go. It's lightweight and comes with an led light on it in case you need a flashlight. Thx timetec I'm very happy to have this around with me.

Received this product from TimeTec International. The price is very competitive. The Power Bank is the size of a small cell phone, and it comes with a handy mesh carrying case six adapters and an AC plug-in and two USB cords. With a double click on the on-off button you have a great LED flash light. I immediately charged an Android cell phone with it in less than two hours, it usually takes much longer. This Power Bank is easy to use, easy to store and easy to pack in a suit case, backpack or computer case. This will come in very handy when traveling. Great gift idea or stocking stuffer.

Want Timetec Xamp 5600mah High Capacity External Battery Pack Power Bank Charger with Flashlight for Appl Discount?

Our iPad2 only requires 6,600 mAh to fully charge. This juice pack has 8400mAh and is enough to charge my iPad together with my smartphone. If you got the newer iPads, then this can charge it about 75%. It is very compact in terms of capacity to its physical size.

You charge this with the included microUSB cable. It will charge on a PC, but preferably use an AC wall charger for faster charging. It can charge two devices at the same time using the two USB slots. One slot is rated 2.1 Amp for iPads and tablets, and the other one is for smaller devices like cell phones, etc.

Most connectors that you will need are included in the box; iPad/iPod connector, PSP, Blackberry, Samsung, Nokia phones, micro USBs, and more. Nope, it doesn't have Nintendos. It even has a tiny ice cube wall outlet charger similar to the iPod's. The cool thing about it is that you can also use it to charge your gadgets directly to a 120V outlet; it is rated 1A.

By pressing the power button twice, you can turn on the LED flashlight. Press twice again, And it will turn off. It is easy to tell how much more juice is remaining by pressing the power button once. The 4 LED lights represent approximately 25 per cent of capacity per light.

Complimentary review item received from the distributor.

Powermonkey-Explorer V2 - Yellow

Powermonkey-Explorer V2 - YellowI recently used the PowerMonkey and it worked great! I charged it before I left, used the charge and used the Solar panel to recharge it. Everything worked great. I highly recommend this product for those in the field.

I bought this for my husband as he takes long bike/camping trips on the north shore of Minnesota. We powered this up and charged his cell phone as a trial. His cell phone was completely out of juice. After the PowerMonkey eXplorer finished charging the cell phone, the bars on the PowerMonkey display hadn't changed and was still at full power. This will be invaluable on his bike trips. He also has a Nook and an iPod and this item will charge those, too! Amazing little thing and powerful! It will keep all his gadgets charged up and I won't have to worry about him being stuck somewhere without an uncharged phone! This would also be great on long overseas flights. We will try out the solar part of it next! Don't ever go anywhere without this cool little thing. Worth every penny!!

Replaced this with a Brunton Inspire and USB Solar panel when it failed to take a charge after only three months of use. The seller will do nothing for you after 14 days, and the manufacturer is in the UK and a few reviewers here report that they do not respond. I doubt I will buy another monkey battery to use with all the junk it came with because so far the Brunton products are working very well. Of course the Inspire is a closeout and any lithium battery has a typical lifespan even on the shelf but so far so good.

It worked fine for a month or so, but when I went camping and really needed it, the solar charger wouldn't fill up the battery pack. I left it in the sun for 2 hours, and the pack wouldn't even turn on to charge my phone.

Then when I recharged it using the wallcharger back home, the fully-loaded battery pack wouldn't even charge up my ipod touch fully with a full charge.

It's possible the version I got had a faulty battery or something, but since I tested it for a month before going out and it bailed on me at a critical juncture, I'm really soured on the PowerMonkey.

Bottom line first: You get what you pay for. In an industry where a couple hundred will get you a decent radio, paying fifty for a little yellow one would lead one to expect it to be less than fully effective. I so expected and was very pleasantly surprised to find this little radio much better than my limited expectation. It is a little hard to learn how to program, but there are a number of good runthroughs on Youtube and a community of experienced fans all ready to help. With all that I was able to get the local repeaters loaded in and I got on the air for the first time with my fresh Tech License, and am now one of the guys. No Elmer yet, but I can recommend these fun little radios, with only the warning that it takes a bit of learning to get it fully up to speed.

Also if you are going to use the computer to program it, ignore the cheap cords and use a decent Kenwood one and you'll keep more hair.

Sunsei SE-1200 Solar 18-Watt 12-Volt Charger

Sunsei SE-1200 Solar 18-Watt 12-Volt ChargerWell made and does the job just fine. It will work on almost any 12v battery. Naturally it does not replace what an electric battery charger can do and in the same amount of time, but as a trickle charger for car and boat batteries this is all you need (other than some sunshine). The only negative is that these Sunsei solar panels are far more expensive than they need to be. They are made in China and a 18w panel of this quality should be 30-50% less than what the Sunsei brand demands. Coleman is pretty much the same product, all coming from ICP Solar in Canada, however the Coleman panels cost much less.

This panel seems to be well designed and works well. The connectors are very functional and allow you to easily interconnect a number of panels. I particularly like the indicator light on the panel that lets you know that it's working. However, the solar cell is covered by glass that is very delicate. I once picked up one of these panels by the corner of the frame and this generated enough stress to crack the glass. I don't know how long the panel will last now that it's cracked.

First all all I didn't get the from Amazon.com, I pick this Solar Charger from another website in which I caught it on Sale for around $80.00. I had it my room for about 2 years and never used it, saved it for one of those raining days. Well two years later. I just had one of those rain days. I did a night on the town, and forgot my backlights were left on when I was pulling out backwards from my girl house. Got back to my place and woke up the next day finding note on my door saying I left my light on in my jeep. My backup light don't work in reverse it on a toggle switch. So I went out to my jeep and the battery read at 9.6V to low for starting my jeep. So I said wait a min, I have the Solar Charge 1200 I use that for charging the battery. So I open the box, and read the instructions. I had to cut have make some minor change for charging up my battery which was not big. Once that was done, I tested it all out with a meter and took it out to my jeep. I started at 1400 at 9.6V and by 1830 it was at 12.0V, I could have started the jeep then but would have been pushing it. So I left it on until the next day. I went back out around 1300 and meter the battery again. This time is said it was 12.3V. Now this put me in the ball park. I uplug the Solar Charger 1200 and my jeep started on the first try. Just to note my came with a Solar Controller with cables and of course the Solar pannel. I am not sure if the one on Amazon.com does. However I would have easy paid the going Amazon.com price if it came to that. My Solar Charger was well built, there is glass so be carefull with it, but seem strudy to me. I had zero issuse with Solar Pannel, however I did have a problem with the Solar Controller, it came apart on me, when I hook up the wires. I fixed it, wiht a little supper glue around the edges. It charge for me 1 Gel Cell 12V Battery. I would say in total time with sun light, was 12 hours, and that went from 9.6v to 12.3v. It was easy, I say fast, and the cost of charging my battery was free excluding the Solar Charger. I would highly recomend it.

I no longer have to listen to that annoying beep from my FIOS battery back-up. Went to Verizon's site, saw how much they wanted for a replacement and found that I could buy this one on-line, have it shipped and STILL get it for half of the price Verizon wanted. They're really looking out for their customers. But this was a perfect match for the battery it replaced and seems to be working fine.

This little baby is the best thing to divert charge to our 8 lighting batteries and protect the 32 batteries that are the ones that run all our stuff on inverters in our home. So far the idea is working well and the little 90 amp unit has been doing exactly what I planned for it.

Bought this for a particular application that I admit I didn't think through. I wanted to charge 2 12V deep cycle batteries from one Solar Regulator. This Item does not allow the MPPT regulator to sample battery voltage in order to know what state the battery is in, it is a ONE WAY CURRENT DEVICE. Thats my fault, I didnt research that before bought it and in retrospect, its obvious. there is a work around with 0.25amp fuses, and having done that, this isolator works perfectly. Would recommend it anyone with the added info that the charger must be an old school resistive charger (like a car alternator or one of those non-smart chargers you see in automotive yards).

Short story: It Works Cant be used with smart chargers that need "feedback" from the battery, but it works.

It did the job of keeping both my batteries on board the boat fully charged even when using them off shore at night.

I researched this company online and they have been around for quite a while with a good reputation. The install went easily and the instructions were good, in fact simple. I tested at home and thought everything was fine so off to the desert I went. About 14 miles in the check engine light came on and a few minutes later the engine started sputtering, when I stopped it died. My yellow Lab was not pleased either. My main battery was completely dead but my accessory battery was still fully charged. I would rather be lucky than good any day! I removed the isolator from the circuit by connecting the alternator charge wire straight to both batteries the old fashioned way and called it a day. Got home and both batteries were fully charged. I think that either I unknowingly did something or I just got a premature failure or a bad unit. I will go with with this Companies reputation and give them another try. Update to come.
