Midland GXT795VP4 36-Mile 42-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)

Midland GXT795VP4 36-Mile 42-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio
  • 42-channel GMRS radio with up to 36 mile range and 142 privacy codes with camouflage faceplate
  • NOAA weather alert radio with scan for severe weather and other emergency alerts
  • eVox with three sensitivity levels for hands-free, voice-activated transmission
  • Features include five animal call alerts, roger beep, channel scan, vibrate alert, monitor and more
  • Bundle includes pair of radios with belt clips, headsets, desk charger, and batteries/adapter

I currently own a set of Motorola, two other sets of Midlands and this is the newest addition to my already favorite Midland radios.

This model is different.

The designing is very details and clean looking. Nice, bring LED displays with orange back lighting. This new model gets a new 'much better' roger deep compared to older midlands, which used to be a dragger. Now, it's shorter deeps which I thought was much clean and professional if you're quick talker.

With it's maximum range of 36-miles, when tested, it did get longer range than other typical radios. When I say longer, it's usually around 1-2 miles in the city.

The size is decent with longer antennas with it's range, and that's what you need for better range. With smaller body and smaller antennas, you end up sacrificing a lot as far as its performance and the range.

Overall, this is a excellent, newly designed, two-way radio.

** Note; one other review commented that he used VOX option for baby monitoring but it's actually unrealistic. VOX only picks up close up voices, nothing away unless you're really shouting out. and you probably don't want to place this radio right next to baby's mouth. Not working!! But it's very useful when driving in the car with the ear piece which is included in this purchase. hands free talking is really helpful.

Buy Midland GXT795VP4 36-Mile 42-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) Now

Received these radios yesterday and did some testing today.

Range: (very clear up to 1.5 miles)

With all radios of this type the "32 miles" is a best case given perfect conditions. My wife and I bought them to use when driving two trucks while moving cross country. For this we will need at most a mile range. Using the high power setting and the GMRS band we were able to get close to 2 miles range. This test was done with me in an office building in an industrial park and my wife driving into the city in an SUV. Transmissions started to have a lot of static after 1.6 miles and were lost just before 2 miles.

Headset/mic: (what you would expect)

The provided headset/mic (2) that comes with the radios work fairly well for a cheap headset/mic.

Fits on either ear and is reasonably (although not incredibly) comfortable.

Sound quality is what you would expect for an included headset/mic.

VOX: (works like all VOX)

Like all VOX this takes a little time to turn on and start sending. We found that saying "Call " used enough time so that the beginning of our message was not cut off.

Roger Beep: (LOUD)

The beep is quite a bit louder than the background voice (when using the provided headset).

Weather radio:

Although this is an extra for me, it is kind of neat and works well.

All in all these are exactly what I expected and I am happy with them.

These radios are as good as you can get for this type of system. We used 4 of them for hunting in very dense bush, very hilly terrain. We could cover pretty decent area with these radios, but I wouldn't expect to go much more 1.5km between radios in extreme conditions like that. At home I can get over 3km in flatter, mostly treed area. These seem to be very good quality, and we are happy with them, as long as you understand the limits of this type of system, you'll be happy with these. If you want more range, you can get other models by midland that will rebroadcast, so each radio acts as a repeater. Good radios, good price. The wheather channel feature was nice to have while hunting as well.

I use them camping to keep track of my grand kids. I wanted a set that was water resistant for obvious reasons. I also wanted max range because I realize that the range drops as soon as any obstacles are in the way. The range of these units in the forest is about 1 mile. Good Product. Only downside, another product made in China.

I bought these hoping that they would have more range than the 20 mile Cobra CXT225 that I got from Walmart for $34 last week. While I'm fully aware not to expect the advertised range (usually divide by 20) these performed worse than the Cobra. Aside from that, the supplied phone/mic apparatus for each is more than worthless.

Compared side by side same conditions as the Cobra CXT225 these were very noisy even close up during transmissions while the Cobras were pleasantly quiet. Midland noisy with somewhat fuzzy voice Cobra clear of noise and very clear voice.

Midland units were big, bulky and heavy while the Cobras were light, small and comfortable to hold. I ride my GoldWing with a bunch of Ham guys and they have modified radios that will TX on the GMRS frequencies. They remarked how clear the Cobra was and asked if I have "noise cancellation" on them. They don't. They said the Midland was noisy like my experience Midland to Midland.

You can get earbud/microphone sets for the Cobra on eBay for just $5.00 each. I'm keeping the Cobra light compact and clear.

In the many years I have dealt with Amazon, this is the first item I ever returned out of hundreds of items bought. Not Amazon's fault, just not a good quality radio from Midland.

I don't know where to start with this it has so many cool features! I love that this can open and close power windows. You can walk away from car car with the windows down click the arm button and it rolls the windows up as well! The remote start is simply amazing I'm an xray tech and work in a room with all lead walls in the back of a building. My truck is parked in the front of the building and I can start it from my desk behind lead walls and several other concrete walls! I would recommend that you find a knowledgeable installer with a viper bitwriter. Best buy had no idea that this unit could roll the windows up and down so talk to your installer about what you want to do with it. Amazing product and I highly recommend it!

True story, I live in the DC slums. Well all of DC is a slum but I live in the slummiest part of the DC slums.

Up until recently, I drove a beat up car that looked crappy but ran great. When I moved to the DC slums (secure parking spot FTW!), I really didn't believe anyone would actually break into my car thinking I had anything of value in there. Alas, they did.

Lucky for me, around the same time hoodrats plundered my hooptie ride, the factory alarm on said hooptie ride had long since crapped out and one morning, was stuck in armed mode. I had to tow my car to a mechanic to disable the alarm (which killed the engine, meaning I couldn't start my car and it howled the entire way to the mechanic from the back of the tow truck) and there happened to be a guy who specializes in these alarms in the same strip as the mechanic. I set up an appointment to have the alarm installed within days.

I knew I wanted the "pager Viper" as I'd read about it somewhere but the alarm guy specifically ordered this one and I'm glad he did. He is familiar with hoodrats so he knew exactly which model I needed. I did not get remote start installed at that time but have since bought a new car the system was easy for him to remove from my old car but will be SUPER complicated for him to install in my new one (a 2011) so PLEASE go to someone who is familiar with Viper alarms to install yours and will be getting it put in that one. You can also wire this thing to open the trunk (I never go in mine so that's not a feature I require) apparently.

As others have said, I sleep well at night seeing this system's soothing blue light blinking from inside my car in the parking lot from my apartment window. A few times, I've been in the store and the pager has alerted me to some kind of nonsense going on near my car. It also alerted me to the fact that this trashy chick who always parks next to me was hitting my car with her door every time she opened it; I didn't mind as much on the old car but now that I have a new one with a fat car note, I'm not about to sit here and let trashy broads hit my car with theirs. The Viper 5901 scares the crap out of reckless hoodrats and helps me feel better about my decision to live in the worst part of one of America's worst cities. That kind of confidence is priceless. Plus it looks cool and I feel like a bad mofo sliding out to the parking lot getting chirped at by my vehicle. Come on, it's sexy.

Highly recommended.

I don't know how I ever survived without it. I traveled throughout the US in 2009 & 2010 and this thing has been so incredibly awesome, especially while I was living in the midwest during the winter season. I love this thing! Had it for over 3 yrs and never had anyyyy problems! Super reliable!

Want Viper 5901 Full Feature Car Alarm With Remote Start And 2-Way Pager Discount?

I had this system installed in my car Last January by a local authorized dealer. It works great. I also got the backup battery, window automation module, glass break sensor, and field sensor. I would recommended it to anyone. The only food for thought is that i have had lots of push back from Viper on the warranty support. I just recently had some issues with the 2-way remote not receiving the confirmation from the car and because I purchased it from Amazon, I am looking at having to cough up the money for a new remote.

Purchased this online and had it installed at best buy and payed $570 for both the unit and install. Had I purchased the unit at the store it would have cost $740. Love the product. Amazing range, and no one can beat this price!!!

This is a great little charger, it's light, energy efficient, inexpensive and does the job of a much larger at a reasonable price. I have used this unit to charge a large automotive truck battery and it completely charged it within 5 hours. I also used this unit to charge one of my little sealed lead acid battery packs for a 2 amp trickle charge. I haven't yet had the opportunity to use the 8 amp engine start feature, but I am sure it won't dissapoint thanks to it having the build quality and reliability of the stanley name.

I bought this Stanley battery charger after buying one of their jump starters and this thing is just as good as their jumper. It is super easy to use. All I had to do was hook it up to my battery, plug it in the wall socket and push the button to start charging. I didn't have to select my battery type or anything. This Stanley automotive stuff is awesome!

I wanted a small safe & easy to use charger to recharge the emergency jump starters I keep in my vehicles. I was too lazy to search for the different wall warts and charge them regularly. And my car's battery needs a top off in the winter also because I don't drive any long distances.

Got this Stanley charger a couple weeks ago (a few bucks cheaper at a local store than on Amazon). Topped off my jumpers and car very nicely. The cig connector worked just like it is designed to.

Last night my neighbor sat listening to his radio while waiting for his teenage daughter to get ready and killed his battery. The Turbo didn't work the first time after about five minutes of charge. I made a better connection with the kinda small clamps and gave it the full Turbo 15 minutes and it started right up.

My research showed that any stronger charger isn't needed for a home user. This one is always safe at 6 amp, and the Turbo will give a bit more omph when it's needed.

I'm very impressed with this charger/maintainer. It is extremely easy to use and feels very solid and the cables are plenty long for almost any situation. I use this to maintain my lawn tractor battery over the winter and it does a great job maintaining, but I have also used it to charge a dead battery. Very happy with the product and was able to get one from a local big box for $29.

Braille Battery B2317 Lightweight Racing Battery

Braille Battery B2317 Lightweight Racing Battery
  • 17 pounds/7.7 kilograms
  • 6.8 inches x 4.0 inches x 6.1 inches
  • 1191 pulse cranking amperes
  • 23 amperes/hour reserve
  • Left side positive (+)

"How can such a tiny battery do the same thing a much larger battery does?" That was the question my dad, Mr. Skeptical, posed when I showed him this thing. I have no idea. I'm not a physicist or chemist or any other type of science professional. What I can tell you is that years ago I got tired of the turbo in my Saab melting batteries so I relocated mine a decade ago to the trunk using an Optima Red Top. Well, Optima's quality started falling off (my opinion based on experience), newer technologies emerged that Optima didn't integrate, and I got tired of a big ol' expensive Red Top taking up trunk space without actually providing a function I was especially happy with. Enter this Braille, which not only starts the car as well as the Red Top ever did, but also fits under the rear seat, thus restoring my trunk floor to full cargo carrying capacity.

I chose the B2317 because it's also available in an "R" (reversed terminal) version. I wasn't initially sure the single Braille would do the job, and I wanted the option of a clean multi-battery solution. I believe the 2317 is the biggest "lightweight racing battery" Braille makes, so it seemed a good starting point. Amazon did *not* have the best price on this battery, but if you've got Prime (HIGHLY recommended) and include the cost of shipping, Amazon's price was unbeatable.

I've had the battery for a month and it's never once failed to start the car, or give any indication it's not 100% up to the challenge. Ye Olde Saab 2.0l is not a small motor, is relatively high compression (9:1) and the starter is not a model of efficiency, so I'd say this battery shouldn't have problems starting any normal-engined passenger car. I only drive this car once a week or so, so sitting for a few days clearly isn't a problem either. But I'm not the type to sit around listening to music in my car, leave the lights on, or anything like that so I can't comment on what the battery's ability to run stuff and *then* start the car is, but I gotta believe there's a sacrifice somewhere, and that might be it. I can't say one way or another.

Buy Braille Battery B2317 Lightweight Racing Battery Now

This is one beast of a battery ! Serious muscle in compact frame . I run a big in high compression shovelhead , I run 245lbs and can stand on the kick pedal to give give you an idea what my starting system and batteries have had to deal with . I've been through several high end high dollar recommended ones and no good all crapped within a year and limited when they did work .

Enter Braille , high capacity , extremely well made and it works . Usually I'd hit the button the starter would strain and it would turn maybe 5 to 7 timkes and stalled . With this one it spun it like the spark plugs where out and did it repeatedly right out of the box and no precharge on my side . To give you ides it come with auto terminal adapters for cars . Can't be happier , and at 475 CCA for $170 verse the other extreme batteries that rate 350 CCA and cost up to $125 more you can't beat this one

2600mah Solar Battery Charger for Mp3 Mp4 Camera /Pda /Gps /Phone Black

2600mah Solar Battery Charger for Mp3 Mp4 Camera /Pda /Gps /Phone Black
  • This product is an energy saving,Environmentallyfriendly solar energy emergency charger
  • This product is a multi-functionsolar emergency charger
  • Style design andconvenient to take it with you
  • Equipped with ahigh-Brightness far horizon LED light, can working more than 30hours

i have had the product for a little while now. it does what it says. however it does take a long time to charge my phone battery via my universal USB battery charger. it takes it about a hour and a half via my ac adapter and 2 hours via my computer usb port. through the solar charger set to 5.5V it takes about 3/12 to 4 hours to charge. i can live with that. one issue is the mini usb male to full size usb female cable never was in the box. so i contacted them and they told me that i would have to ship back the whole device to them and wait for replacement unit. when they told me to send them pictures. the device has a clip to remove the metal casing for like taking off the protective shield on the solar panel. and when you remove it you can see that battery. which has the battery size scratched out. however if you look close enough it says 2500MAH instead of 2600MAH.

all in all i really needed that cable, but the company is giving me a hard time. its a good charger, despite the slow charging time, fake battery and lack of cable. for 9$ its alright. you get what you pay for

Update: the device has died. i took it apart and checked all the wiring and everything seemed to look okay and in shape. device would charge and flashlight would work. however it wont give a out power. checked the cord and used several other adapters i ordered online and still nothing. i ruled it as a dead motherboard. so i now have a useless charger around. when i got it i thought it was too good to be true. i was right.. the smaller battery than advertised, the .8A output power, not worth the money. however i did make good use of the solar panel and turned it into a solar panel with usb out. which works fine. i discarded what was left of it and turned it into a flashlight for my 3 year old brother. so if you want something that inst going to last you very long, then go for this product. if you want something that will last you a long time and has real parts, and not fake ones from china then your looking in the wrong place. eg, no brand name, not real battery, cheep motherboard, etc.. as well as the other ones that are 2600MAh solar chargers have the same insides just different shells. so be careful

Buy 2600mah Solar Battery Charger for Mp3 Mp4 Camera /Pda /Gps /Phone Black Now

The solar charger/battery arrived with a 75% battery charge. The LED Flashlight worked. I plugged in my phone and nothing. Left the solar charger plugged in overnight. 100% charge...plugged in phone..nothing.

Opened it up to take a look. No voltage at all coming out through the mini USB and very low voltage from the battery. My conclusion is the battery is dead and will only hold a charge sufficient to power the LED flashlight. :( I didn't expect much for $10

Moultrie 6-Volt Solar Panel

Moultrie 6-Volt Solar PanelI have several deer feeders I've been using for over 10 years and have tried many different battery chargers as I run the feeders year round. I find these Moultree chargers to be the best. Easy to mount on the leg of the feeder and they last for several years. Only complaint: the electric line is NOT shielded and squirrels eat through it after a few months or so. I always need to go back and encase the electric lines in a metal sheath that I get at Lowes or Home Depot. Also, the batteries usually die after a year or two before the solar charger fails. Also remember to clean the solar charger every few months to keep it operating at peak efficiency. Keeep the charger aimed at the best afternoon sun also. It should get at least 2-3 hours of sunlight a day. More is better, but I find it only needs 2-3 hours a day to keep the batteries fully charged. I also use a 7ah 6-volt battery instead of the standard 4.5ah 6-volt battery as it defiantely lasts longer.

Works as advertised. With this and a 6 volt rechargeable battery, I was able to keep my deer feeder going the entire season (I usually go through about 3 to 4 alkaline batteries in this amount of time). I have a meter on my feeder that gives me the status of battery power. After 4 months it still says the battery has 100% power. It was nice to know that after a busy week at work, that I could go sit in the stand on saturday morning and know that me feeder was working.

I used this unit as the core of a home-made entertainment system on a narrowboat where space is at a premium. It was easy to install and functions as advertised. It feeds a pair of mini Gale speakers and the audio quality is excellent. The unit plays CDs DVDs (all regions) fine. The video quality is OK but not spectacular component outputs or at lease a S-Video out would have improved things. A disappointment is the quality of the aux audio input it sounds very thin (lacks bass) when fed from an MP3 player or cassette recorder. Overall, though, I am very satisfied with this device and would recommend the Boss brand for quality and value.

Xantrex Prowatt SW1000 1000W True Sinewave Inverter

Xantrex Prowatt SW1000 1000W True Sinewave Inverter
  • Power - Surge Rating 2000 W
  • Power - Output (Watts) 1000 W
  • Voltage - Input Range (Volts) 10.5 - 15.5 Vdc
  • Waveform Tru
  • Waterproof NONE

Recently the price on inverters (esp true sine) has dropped quite a bit (there are two xantrex 1000 watt units the older 750 buck one and now the $200-$300 price one). Xantrex has a wonderful reputation. I own this inverter along with their older model (pro-sine) and also the new entry from sunforce (yes I have alot of 1000w inverters).

I also have alot of 1000w loads. In particular is my favorite testload a 1050 w (with motorthe heating element is 1000w exactly but it has a blower that consumes 50w so technically its a tad high).

With this dummy load both of my xantrex inverters will run it all day or until the battery bank dies whichever comes first. They draw about 110-115 amps on the 12vdc lines.

The sunforce 1000w inverter CAN NOT run this load for more than 2 seconds without an output overload shutdown. But I still like the sunforce because it can handle 900W and it has an RF keychain remote on/off switch.

The point is Xantrex products are clean, reliable power, while other knockoffs (compare sunforce's 1K and this one and guess who coppied who) are not up to being a real 1K unit. If anyone wants a demo my email is in my profile i'd be happy to film the two side by side on optima D31 blue top batteries and even give the sunforce the running head start with the fresh charge on the cells 2 seconds and it will shutdown. Yes, i know 1050 watts is over 1000w, but the xantrex will drain the batteries before they complain of anything else runing the heatgun.

This is the leading brand in inverters today. Their new product line offers 3x the value of their older units without sacrificing quality or stability. It's a real value in high power inverters. Unfortunately, xantrex moved their mfg overseas and the quality suffered from more than one report. We no longer use this model, but for an apples to apples comparison against offshore mfg inverters, xantrex still has a better design to begin with = better product to ship back to the usa

I'm not running much off this device and the thing that strikes me is that the cooling fan only turns on when a certain temperature is reached. So for small loads, it's very quiet because the fan has no need to turn on. Previous experiences with inverter default to the fan being on and they are often very noisy.

The sine wave seems to be clean. After trying this, I'll never go back to modified sine waves for devices remotely designed to work with sine waves. Otherwise, I'll just go with the cheap square wave inverters.

I plan on buying another unit in the future.

So far I returned (3) inverters (1)Power Bright PW400, (2)Tripp Lite PV1000 because the output voltage was to low (89-95volts). Fluorescent light would not be as bright, fan would not come up to speed and I"m sure this was not good for motors. Had this one for (3) days (Xantres Prowatt SW 1000) and am very satisfied with it. Output voltage is 124 volts, lights are bright motors are running up to speed And my running amps are lower. I don't know whether this unit is just made better or if its because its a pure sine wave inverter or both but it puts the other inverters I tried to shame.

I bought this inverter for long power failures. I wanted a way to keep my fridge running overnight when I can't run my generator (out of consideration for my sleeping neighbors). At first it failed to start the fridge using 8ga jumper cables on a set of golf cart batteries. I ditched the jumpers and hard wired it to the batteries using proper connectors and 2ga wire. After that it ran the fridge fine. The nameplate on the fridge says 1320watts, using a meter I found it to peak around 1200w with an avg continuous load of 250w. I've only run it for about 8hrs so no word on longevity, but it appears to be a well made unit based on fit and form.

I bought this about two months ago. So far I only use about 250 watts everyday 6-7 hours run time) and have had no issues at all. To test it I plugged in my 32" tube TV, two 60 watt lamps, two 15'6 notebooks, PS3 Playstation and the Frig. Ran it all just fine and took the surge from the Frig very easily. And more I'm sure! Well made product, great directions, easy to intall. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a well made power inverter that performs as advertised.

elago Nano EL-Car-C1 USB Car Charger for iPhone, iPod, MP3 Players, Digital Cameras, PDAs, and Mobile PhonesThis device works with iPhone 4 and 3GS.

When plugged into the cigarette lighter jack, the green light comes on to indicate it is ready.

You would need a separate USB iPhone cable (or other types of USB cable if you use a different device) to connect to this device since this devices does NOT come with a iPhone USB cable.

This charger has a aluminum handle that you can conveniently use to pull the device from the cigarette lighter jack.

Just a heads-up for late model Honda owners, this adapter probably won't fit your outlet. It was too short to make the connection in my 2009 Honda Accord.

Cool design but poor quality. The silver band in the photo is a pull handle that flips out for you to extract the charger from the power socket. The first time I removed it (which unfortunately is beyond the 30 day return policy), the handle broke right through the plastic face that has the elago logo on the front. Completely cracked right through. Thin cheap plastic. Im fired up. Should have bought another brand.

It looks very much like a part of the interior on a 2010 Jeep JK. Most people who see it want to know what the USB port goes to... It looks that good. I actually do have a USB port for the stereo, but it's not in sight... And it works fine. The JK has 2 cigarette type plugs it can go into, one switched with the ignition and one not perfect for camping trips. I move it to the unswitched to recharge cell phone and not have to turn on the key.

UPDATE Be aware that there are different models of these and Amazon lumps at least two of them together as item ASIN B002ECB0Q0. I bought another one from Bargaincell, it turned out to be extremely low quality, all cables broke at the connector molding within weeks. The first one I bought, from CrazyOnDigital is still working fine.

I bought this 8 in one FM transmitter car charger cradle for iPhone 3gs, Amazon item ASIN B002ECB0Q0.

The cradle holds the phone securely, the charger works fine, the FM transmitter works well, and the remote control works also. If the price wasn't so low, I may have given it fewer stars but this thing is a great value so I forgive its minor quirks. The cradle holds my phone in a good position in my '07 Civic, your vehicle may be different so consider your layout before ordering.

The cradle seems fairly robust, no phone slippage or cradle rotation in the lighter socket so far.

The FM transmitter can be set to any frequency on the dial. I've owned several transmitters and this one is the best. It works even on frequencies that have stations with weak signals on them, this is unusual for consumer FM transmitters. It may be that my unit is a particularly good one but hopefully all of these are good. The FM transmitter can be set to several preset stations and those can be selected with the remote control to avoid interference while traveling, this is a nice feature.

A downside to this unit with an iPhone is that it does not advertise it is shielded from GSM noise to the phone. When you plug it in, the phone says the device is not designed for iPhone and asks if you want airplane mode. If you leave the phone radio on, you will occasionally hear GSM interference on your radio speakers, not very loud though. To avoid that problem altogether, it also has an audio out 3.5mm port and comes with a six or eight inch cable to plug in to your car's aux port. This works fine if your car has one, no GSM noise at all.

Another downside is you have to point the remote at the top of the unit to get it to work, a small annoyance. It does not come with a manual. If you need one, pass this unit up.

For me, so far, so good I like this unit.

I can not say for sure that this item broke my iphone 3gs, but I plugged it in because of a low battery. I tried to pick it up to make a call at the end of my drive, the phone wouldn't turn on. Phone was under warranty, so no hard feelings. Throwing the charger away though.

This product has been updated. Griffin has come out with the TuneFlex AUX 2 version. It is much better (see my review of it below)

TuneFlex AUX

-------------------

Plain and simple, don't bother with this product. It pales in comparison to the updated model. This model shifts around and isn't as clean looking as the new model. It also doesn't always charge my iPod Classic...which didn't charge properly for a lot of auto chargers (I tried about 5 different ones). Just skip this product and get the new version...it is worth the extra money. Read my review of the updated model below:

TuneFlex AUX 2 Review:

-------------------

This is a good product, probably the best auto charging dock available (I've tried quite a few). I own an iPod Classic 80GB (and iPhone 3G) and it charges and plays them just fine. The product arm itself is strong and doesn't move a bit. The holding dock itself (comes with a variety of docks for all your iPods) allows you to rotate it. This does move. It's stiff at first, but once you break it in it will start twisting a bit on a large iPod. Nano's probably won't budge at all. It's not horrible, it probably rotates about 10 degrees in either direction when I take turns. It usually goes back though, so it isn't the end of the world.

I will say the holders themselves, while there are many to choose from, really don't have much support for the product. There is no backing to them at all (except one which doesn't appear to fit my iPod classic, iPhone, or nano). No worries though, the iPod still manages to stay in place without a problem (and they ride in a Pontiac G8).

Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. If it was solid as a rock, I would give it 5...but it's pretty close. Again, if you own a Nano, this thing probably won't budge at all. The iPod Classic will rotate a little, but not much. If you don't want it to move at all, I suggest getting a Belkin TuneDok (goes in a cup holder) or a vent clip model.

Buy Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Now

Okay, since I have only owned this for a week and it is already "breaking", it should get a 1 Star rating. However, there are some positives to it and maybe you will get one that holds up.

I wanted an iPod charging unit and had no need for the FM transmitter so I went with this unit. I have an AUX (auxillary) jack on my car stereo and you can't get any better sound quality from an iPod than playing through it. Plus, It was much cheaper than purchasing a unit with an FM transmitter.

PROS:

1) The Design. Flexible neck. Good height, about 8 inches, and it allows the unit to be easily moved around to not interfere with radio or Air conditioning controls. When I first plugged it in I thought "This is great. A good sturdy unit" I was wrong though...see the CONS.

2) the AUX jack. You can plug the mini-stereo cord into the front of the cigarette lighter charger plug and then into your AUX (auxillary) jack of your stereo. That way you only have to drop the iPod in and take it out. No cords to plug in and out.

CONS:

1) The plug for the cigarette lighter has a big rubber gasket on it to "prevent slipping". The problem? It only worked for about a week before the rubber would no longer stay stiff enough to keep the unit from swinging to the right or left and having the iPod hang upside down!!

I was very disappointed this product only lasted a Week and have now printed a return label to send it back.

I was worried that this might eventually become a problem. I just had no idea it would only take a week for the rubber gasket/cigarette port to start sliding. Just as a note, it does stay IN the socket, put it doesn't stay stationary (it swings/slides) so it is not a stable unit for my iPod.

2) The hi/low switch and AUX jack. I found my sound quality was louder and clearer if I plug the stereo cable in between the headphone jack of the iPod and the AUX jack on the stereo. If I plugged it in to the charger unit, on Low power, it sounded very muffled. On high power, it sounded "okay" but not as good or loud as using the headphone jack.

So, I am not getting back online to find an alternative unit. I'll probably have to purchase a 'fixed' position unit that also has an FM transmitter because that seems to be the majority of what is out there. We'll see.

Bottom line, I cannot suggest this unit to anyone because it doesn't function as described.

I just bought one of these for my wifes car too (a Nano version). We'll see if it lasts.

I got this product after reading other reviews and was hoping that Griffin either did a silent update and addressed the high-pass/low-pass issues, but they hadn't. It's horrible and I have to plug my audio connection directly to the iPod (btw, I'm using the new Classic 160gb). My car's interior (Acura TL) is black, so it looks perfect inside + my black iPod. I connect it to my black cassette adapter, so the wire isn't really noticeable. As much as I wanted to get the comparable product by Ten Technology, it's nearly impossible to find.

The goose neck is pretty sturdy. I've used it for about a month now and it hasn't gone loose on me yet. For a video iPod, this is an ideal stand, it's not clunky like some of the other car adapters, and keeps your iPod video visible so you can see all your cool visuals. If i could find the Ten Tech connector, I'd get that instead, even tho it's not a cool black like this one, the audio (I hear) works perfectly.

Be aware, the description of this product says that it comes with a cassette adapter, however that doesn't apply to this bundle.

Want Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Discount?

This device is ideal for the ones that have a car stereo with an auxiliary in jack. Most cigarette lighters in cars are at an easy to reach place. So the tuneflex will also have your ipod at hands reach. The sound is as good as it gets. It's probably the only device that combines reloading of the ipod battery with an auxiliary output. The only thing that bothers me a bit is more a flaw in the ipod design as it is a tuneflex flaw. The display light is to bright to drive with at night. Perhaps a tinted screen could fix that problem. I'll give the people at Griffin a hint.

I think this is the best ipod base, but in my NEON 98 it swings a little, thats the why to the 4 stars.

Great sound quality.

Very Safe.

  • 0-2,400 rpm/0-2,700 ipm for faster application speed
  • Replaceable brushes for increased serviceability;Textured ant-slip comfort grip provides maximum comfort and control

I purchased this tool to have more power and better access to tight areas than my 1/4" impact driver that I had to put an adapter on. I am very pleased at the battery life and that it came with two, so the work can be continuous. Although it was rated at a higher torque spec than I achieve (I get about 110ft.lbs.) this is sufficient for the jobs that I do. (mostly removing my car wheels and various loosening/tighteneng bolts and nuts on forklifts) I LOVE not having to drag around an air hose (been saving a lot of gas for the boss by not leaving my air cpmpressor running) The 18V NiCad battery sticks out a liitle bit at the bottom but not enough to change the overall length. I suspect the NiMeHyd batteries would be a bit lighter and I wish the unit had three lights around the head, time delay on the light, and ideally a torqe adjuster nob. (IF THEY BUILD IT, I WILL BUY!). Want DEWALT DC820KA 1/2" (13mm) 18V Cordless XRP Impact Wrench Kit Discount?

I just bought this to work on my car. My first job was installing my winter tires. I usually use my regular wrench to loosen and tight the nuts on my wheels, and end up a little sore afterwards. This guy made it so easy and fast that I was done quick and never felt a thing. I've used air powered impact wrenches before to work on my car and I though this wouldn't come close to them, but I was wrong.

Batteries charged in an hour like advertised and the tool with the battery on doesn't weight that much. Highly recommended for all your car DIY's.

After charging the batteries the impact wrench appeared to work well as I played with it for a few minutes. But during my first real task, it worked well for only about five minutes before just stopping. When I pull the trigger, the LED would still light up, but the nothing would spin at all. I tried the other battery and I tried turning the shaft by hand to try to help 'jump-start' the wrench, but to no avail. The item is currently being returned and I'm awaiting a refund. My other dewalt worked well and I thinking this is not a frequent issue (hence the 3 rating). The motor did make an electrical smell. At first I thought it was because the motor was new, but perhaps the smell was indicating a bigger problem.

Brunton 26 Watt Foldable Solar Array

Brunton 26 Watt Foldable Solar ArrayI like this panel, I like it a lot. Right now I use it to charge a all of my electronics. It folds up nicely, and doesn't weigh much. I agree with the other posters on the positive things about these panels.

These panels as individuals (not linked) are serving me and my teams very well in Iraq. We use them to power everything from MP3 Players and cell phones to advanced GPS tracking systems.

There's only one problem I have, and that is linking more than two panels together. The instructions and box say it can be done, and the box says it includes a linking cable, but there is nothing that says how. You are supposedly able to link up to three panels together, but I am unable to accomplish this no matter how I configure the cables. I've written directly to Brunton's service department for guidance, but after a month I've only gotten the read receipts from them. No answer so far. No one on any blog or forum can tell me how this is done. They are expensive, so finding someone that has bought more than one is rare.

All three panels came with the exact same cables, so I don't think I'm missing anything. There are two connection ports on each panel (it will charge two small items at the same time). As far as cables go you get one with clamps (like the kind that connects to a car battery), one female car cigarette lighter-style outlet, and another cable that has four adapters on one end and a single adapter (for plugging into the panel) on the other.

You have to use the four-ended cable to link panels. The problem is that when you plug the end with four ends into a panel there is no more room to plug in another cable. The two prongs sticking out of the sides prevent this.

Anyone with one panel could see what I mean. Try plugging both ends of your linking cable into your one panel, as would be the case on the middle panel in a series of three. Then consider how you would link three of them together.

I would love to hear from anyone that has accomplished linking more than two of these together.

Linking them together would allow us to power (real time) our field laptops and mini-satellites, we could even recharge our military satcom radio batteries. Unfortunately this isn't the case yet.

The panel is excellent and I like it a lot. I gave it a three star rating because it claims to be able to do something that it cannot (link three panels). The instructions are also lacking in this area. Brunton's customer service also leaves something to be desired, which should be your only negative consideration if you're buying only one.

Update:

I finally got a reply from Brunton concerning linking the panels. Here it is:

"To your question... The four-pronged linking cable can make the

connection between panels a bit tight. Admittedly, the design isn't the

best, but I've got three of our 26s here, hooked them up, and read

increased amperage. On the panels where you're forced to use both the

single and multi-tipped wire, I've found it's best to turn the four-tip

plug perpendicular to the flat ground, making it easier to fit the

single wire. I'll be the first to say it isn't pretty. It creates a

slight fold in the panel, and doesn't allow it to sit completely flat,

but it does make the connection, and since there's no solar receiver

over the output, it doesn't affect the efficiency.

As I said, the multi-prong cord isn't the best design. It's something

I'm trying to get them to change in the development department. Keep in

mind that hooking multiple panels together doesn't increase the total

voltage coming out of your last panel, but rather simply increases the

amperage. "

Update * Click on "See customer Image" underneath the main product pic to see what this looks like *

So I broke out my panels and gave it a try. Yes, by bending the panel you can make the two fit. This causes me some real problems. My initial intent was to take some cord and tie the panels down (using the nicely grommeted holes in each corner). I can't do this because the corner that's bent can't be tied down tightly. When I pull on the corner that's bent down (see pic), you can hear the plastic under strain. The four prong outlet tries to straighten out with no where to go, when you do this. I wouldn't want to tie the panel down tightly for fear of breaking something.

The answer to this of course is to make your own single male-male cable. In the rest of the email the service rep offered to send me some cables and cords that I could splice together.

One other thing I noticed is that the female cigarette outlet is completely smooth on the inside, there are no ridges or insets. Any male connector you insert into it will not "lock" into place. There is some resistance that will keep it from just falling out, but it doesn't take much to come loose. I don't think this would be a problem if the panel were laying flat. I imagine that if it were hung up the weight of some cables could cause it to come out. I've had no problems at all with powering any device using this outlet.

Update: * Added another image showing the hook up to an EEE ASUS*

I also own an Asus Eee PC 900 16G. One of the prongs on the four ended cable will fit directly into the laptop. It being such a small laptop the panel WILL run it real time while charging the battery (just like it was plugged into the wall).

According to Brunton the panel kicks out 26 Watts, and says it's at 12 Volts. This means that

12 Volts X 2.2 Amps = 26 Watts

(i'm rounding slightly up on the Amps)

The EEE ASUS Power pack says it has an output of :

12 Volts X 3 Amps = 36Watts

There's obviously a little play in here, but the Brunton panel is using the same Volts at less amps, so it's safe to plug it into your EEE PC. In testing this personally it did in fact run the laptop real time and charge the battery at the same time.

I would raise my review to four stars (I can't modify it), because the panel does do what it says it will do, but it has a design flaw that makes it hard to deal with.

4th Update:

For some reason all the pictures I uploaded months ago are now gone. I don't know if that's an Amazon thing, or what. I'll try to replace them.

Might as well say something about the panel....

It's been over a year and a half and it's still holding up, no problems with wear and tear. I'm very pleased.

I am a nature photographer, and spend significant intervals a long ways from a power outlet. I recently used this solar charger to keep lithium ion batteries charged for my digital camera. I am pleased to report that it works even better than specified. I was able to charge two Olympus BLM-1 batteries simultaneously, in a couple hours in sunny conditions and in six hours in cloudy conditions. Even when the temperature fell as low as 25 F, the charger worked just fine.

The units folds up into a small comparatively small bag. You wouldn't use it for ultralight backpacking, but it worked fine for me, and is comparatively light in relation to my camera gear. The charger got rained on, got mud splashed on it, and was stepped on my a small child, and survived it all just fine.

Sturdy, durable, portable, powerful and effective. Highly recommended.

(I saw one review complaining the unit wouldn't power a laptop computer. That's true. You'd need two. It won't power a refrigerator or a dishwasher, either. But if you need to charge batteries, this works great.)

This is a very useful product. I've used it to power essentially any low-draw 12V equipment that I normally charge via my car's cigarette lighter. I live in Georgia (not a tremendously strong solar area) yet I was able to run anything I wanted to with moderate cloud cover. I used it today to charge my cell phone with a dead battery to full charge in less than an hour (as advertised). I haven't used it to charge my boat/auto battery yet but I have purchased the Brunton Solar Controller to utilize it. The panel is very easy to use and comes with multiple adapters. I'm not an electrician but I was able to open the box and use the product in less than five minutes. I'm excited to take it camping and on my boat. It's just a really, really useful product all the way around and comes with the Brunton name.

Want Brunton 26 Watt Foldable Solar Array Discount?

I am a ham radio operator and I have been operating Picnic Table Portable all summer long from a city park in the middle of Chicago. I have added the Brunton 26 watt solar panel to my portable station and it has been a tremendous asset. It folds up into the size of a sheet of paper, and in full sun I am able to get about 1.65 amps out of it. Even in partly cloudy and ambient light it can produce enough power to keep my 9aH gel cell battery topped off while I operate.

See pictures of my setup at http://www.kg9e.netThis weekend we had wind gusts of 50MPH. I was operating portable again, and had the solar panel bungee corded down and it withstood the wind very well. Before I set up, I measured the 9aH gel cell battery voltage across the terminals it read 12.42v (about 75% charged). After operating for about 3 hours in cloudless skies while having the solar panel attached, I measured the voltage across the terminals and it read 12.9v (easily 100% charged). I've been able to stay on the air for about 12 hours, drawing a maximum of 7.5 amps from the battery. 8 hours during the day, and 4 hours after sunset. It makes a big difference in the amount of time I can stay on the air with a single battery.

This is one durable and fun solar panel. It has been the subject of much curiosity and an invaluable to my portable/disaster communication radio station.
