Thinking about buying another iPhone charger?

1) Be careful to buy one that actually works (seriously). Apple has proprietary tech that each manufacturer licenses allowing the charger to communicate with the phone. Some cheapos don't incorporate the tech and wind up not actually charging the phone (for example, see this: USB Cable + Wall Charger for Apple Iphone 3g Ipod Touch Nano )

2) This charger is built out of (comparatively) high-quality materials and can hold up to being shoved in luggage/backpacks/purses/whatever

3) The cable can be used just by itself (has a USB end that goes into the wall plug)

4) The plug is ridiculously ginormous. I guess that's why it swivels, so this big hog can fit in a power strip regardless of plug orientation. (I assume they saved money making it so unnecessarily big.)

5) The connector firmly connects to the apple device (again quality build)

6) iPhone chargers are pricey, this is one of the cheapest that is built well

7) This one is eligible for Amazon Prime shipping

This is the second one of these I'm buying, because of price/value/reliability. I have both nicer and cheaper ones. Despite it's faults, this one seems "just right". 1 star off because the plug is so big.

Buy Belkin F8Z414ttP AC Charger with Swivel Plug & Charge Sync Cable for iPod and iPhone Now

I bought this charger for my iPod touch 4. I needed a wall charger for our trip to Europe. It worked perfectly! It charges the iPod much faster than the USB. I'm not sure if the faster charge affects battery life, though. Anyway, with a European plug adapter this charger worked just as well with Europe's 110 volt power as it does here. As a bonus the USB cord that comes with it seems to be of an even better quality than the Apple cord.

This is an 1amp charger, so it's not for an iPad. I got it for my iPod touch 4G. The cable that came with it is thicker like the other viewers said, and unlike some other Belkin cables, this one can be used for both charge and sync. The cable is a bit longer than the original apple one too. Overall this appears to be well made and worth what you paid for. Will update review if I should find it different after some use.

My son needed a second charger so he didn't have to worry about taking it between his parents' houses. This is great. I was tempted to buy the cheap ones, but I think it was well worth it to spend the money for a brand name. It's well made and transfers data well, too!

These are the specifications of the adapter (from the back of the adapter itself).

Input 120V to 240V

Output 5V at 550mA (each USB port)

Note that the USB standard output 5V at 500mA.

The Belkin adapter provides enough power to keep the iPad running. However, it DOES NOT provide enough power to charge the iPad while the iPad is running. The iPad status bar indicates plugged in, but not charging.

The Belkin adapter provides enough power to CHARGE the iPad only when the iPad is "off" or in "sleep" mode (such as when the smart cover is closed). It definitely takes longer to charge with the Belkin than when using the Apple adapter. This is because the Belkin adapter provides 550mA and the Apple iPad adapter provides 2.0A.

For those who want to charge the iPad while the iPad is running, don't buy this Belkin because you'll need an adapter that provides at least 1.0A. For reference, the Apple iPod and iPhone adapters provide 1.0A.

Overall, I am happy because I no longer need to carry two adapters (one for my iPad and one for my Blackberry).

2013 MODEL PIONEER AVH-X1500 DVD / AVHX1500 DVD In-Dash 6.1 Touchscreen

2013 MODEL PIONEER AVH-X1500 DVD / AVHX1500 DVD In-Dash 6.1 Touchscreen
  • Enjoy robust multimedia features with AppRadio functionality
  • Intuitive user interface and touchscreen controls
  • Pandora Radio Ready for iPhone
  • 3 RCA Preouts (2V) and Navigation Ready
  • 6.1-inch WVGA touchscreen with 16 9 aspect ratio

I bought this unit to install in my Toyota Sequoia. I searched everywhere for this unit finally found it on Amazon for less than $250. The install was simple and the unit looks good I'm my Toyota.

This is the newer version of the AVH-1400DVD with a bigger screen (6.1 versus 5.8), The mixtrax, and the ability to use App Radio a huge plus for me so basically you get the App Radio and all the other features of The AVH-1400DVD for the same price.

To use the App radio you have to get the Pioneer CDIOU201S cable and hook it up to the rear of the radio. If you want the ability to use the apps and watching a DVD without having the vehicle parked I would get the Microbypass interface also an easy install.

I've had this deck for over a month and I get a lot of comments, the deck sounds great running on my factory speakers. I recommend this deck for anyone looking for a nice deck for a cheap price.

Preface: Do you like to read books? If so then this review is for you! LOL

I've had this radio installed for around a month now. Let me start off by saying I'm a bit of a technophile I like electronics, and I'm also a software developer. So I have rather high standards for both hardware and software. Perhaps I nitpick more than most, but at least you'll find a number of details about this radio (specifically, things it cannot do or does not do well) that you may not find elsewhere. I originally rated this radio as 4/5 stars after installing, but I've bumped it down to 3/5 after becoming more familiar with the various limitations. I don't think many of these limitations are specific to this model more than likely they also apply to the more expensive Bluetooth model, etc.

I bought this radio for the more "advanced" things it can do. Like playing movies and TV shows off of external drives, hooking car PCs up to it, etc. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail about what it does well, because I think other reviewers have covered the positives. I'm going to point out some negatives that I did not discover until actually using the unit.

**USB Drives

I planned on plugging my 1 TB external HDD into this, and thus always having full access to the huge number of TV shows and movies without having to swap discs or even USB drives. Unfortunately the radio would not recognize the drive at all. After some digging through the specifications I found that the radio only works with FAT and FAT32 formatted drives, which is pretty rare nowadays when it comes to large drives. Most are NTFS, which the radio will not recognize. You will have to reformat your drive to FAT32 if you want to use it with this radio so be warned before you spend many hours loading it up with files. Note that FAT32 does not leave as much free space on the drive as NTFS, which is one of the reasons it is being used less and less.

**USB Audio playback

This portion of the radio is decent. You can throw your MP3, etc, music files into folders on your USB drive, and the radio plays them back. Now, as other reviewers have noted, the radio is very strange about listing that music when you're looking at the files directly. It does not sort by file name (actually it doesn't sort by anything at all, which is the oddity). Instead it lists files in the order they were copied onto the drive. So for all intents and purposes, the files appear randomly when viewing them directly. The solution is to create a music database. This is done by pushing a single button, which prompts the radio to find every song, extract the song info (title, album, artist, etc), and create a database. Once you've done that the songs are properly sorted by title as one would expect. Any album art is also displayed, which prompted me to go back and spend the time to fix up a number of my MP3s, as when I ripped music way back when I didn't bother including album art. It's nice seeing the album picture of the current song that's one of my favorite things about having an LCD display for a radio.

If you make any changes to the music on your USB drive the radio will recognize the change, and ask you if you want to rebuild the music database again. I'm just not sure why it can't do all this automatically in the background, which would also solve the oddity I mentioned above about the file sorting.

When playing an MP3 the radio shows two small icons a folder icon and a music icon and next to each is the folder number and song number. So if you are on song 5 of a particular folder, it will show a 5 next to the music icon. What the radio does not do, and what I really miss, is that it doesn't show you the total number of songs in the current folder. So I know I'm on song 5, but out of how many? Most people rip their CDs into folders, that way you can jump from folder to folder to move from album to album. I want to see 5/14, to know I'm on the 5th song of 14.

**USB video playback

The radio does not recognize a number of popular video container formats, like 3GP, MP4 and MKV. It won't even list files with those extensions. Considering those are the video formats used by modern electronics like smart phones and tablets, it is rather inconvenient that the radio cannot play them.

I tried playing an AVI with DIVX video encoding and MP3 192kbps audio. For some reason it says "Unsupported audio format" and plays only the video. It does properly play a video with a 110kbps audio stream, so perhaps it doesn't play 192kbps? I've got a couple other AVI files that it says it cannot read as well. I have yet to figure out the exact limitations as far as bitrate, etc, that the radio does not support.

It does play many of my other videos perfectly, however I was disappointed early on with the number of videos that it cannot play. I was hoping for better versatility and compatibility in this day and age. Reencoding videos is not a fun nor fast process.

Did you notice above, where I mentioned the oddity of how the Pioneer does not sort files by name, and they appear in the order they were copied onto the USB drive? That applies to videos too, however in this case it's much worse, because there isn't any database function for videos! So that means whenever you navigate videos, the order of the files is essentially random. I have a folder full of Spongebob episodes for my preschooler. When I go into that folder they aren't sorted neatly by season and episode, as I have them named. It's just a hodgepodge of randomness. That is not cool.

**USB Pictures

The JPEG picture loading is rather slow (scans down the screen from top to bottom over the course of a second or two). There is also a noticeable flickering in areas of the picture with fine detail. I think the screen might be interlaced and renders every other line each pass, which causes flickering where there are pronounced horizontal lines in the picture.

**GUI

The GUI is moderately responsive (don't think it's super smooth like an iPhone or modern Android phone the scrolling menus, etc, are laggy). It is definitely faster than the older model AVH-P1400DVD my local Walmart has on display (for $80 more too, LOL). However it is still somewhat laggy when scrolling up and down through song lists. When you navigate from one folder to another there is a delay as the files appear one at a time.

I'm disappointed in the lack of customization in the GUI. For example I can't control what kind of information is displayed or where, or font sizes, etc. There are only a handful of color schemes to choose from (5 I think, just your basic primary colors), and just a few animated backgrounds. The Spectrum Analyzer animated background lags behind the actual music so bad that at first I thought it was just purely random motion, until I looked closely and saw that it did seem to crudely follow the music to some extent. If you enable the Spectrum Analyzer background then it automatically disables the album cover art picture (the SA animation is shown in its place). Since the cover art display is one of my favorite things about having a full screen LCD radio, well, that's two strikes against the Spectrum Analyzer for me.

**Display

*Resolution

For its size, the screen is high enough resolution to look sharp and clear. I would consider it a "retina" display simply because it is far enough away from your eyes (unlike cell phones and tablets, which you use closer to your face) that it isn't possible to make out individual pixels. It is very crisp and clear. The previous generation to the AVH-X1500 DVD (the AVH-P1400 DVD) has a much lower resolution screen that looks very pixelated, so the display on this radio is a big improvement.

*Polarization

One downside is the polarization. If you wear a good pair of polarized sunglasses you will find that the display is quite dark. If I tilt my head just slightly to the left the polarization lines up with that of the display and it becomes completely black. If I tilt my head a little to the right of center the display becomes brighter. The display polarization should have been aligned optimally with this in mind that many people would be viewing it with polarized sunglasses. Thus the display is much harder to see in daylight with polarized sunglasses than non-polarized sunglasses.

*Brightness

The backlight is normally plenty bright for daytime use. However, the display backlight becomes dimmer when your headlights are on as it should so you aren't blinded by it at night. The problem is that the dimming level is fixed. It's all or nothing if the car lights are on the display dims to a preset level. The radio ignores the variable dimmer control of your vehicle (and mine is definitely wired correctly). So in those situations when it's bright out but you need to use your headlights (like wet road conditions, rain, etc), the radio display will become too dim to see very well. I've had to use my headlights even when I needed to wear my sunglasses, and in that case the display is completely impossible to see. If the radio had proper variable lighting then you could turn up your gauge dimmer all the way and the radio brightness would also be at maximum, but Pioneer cut corners on that one.

**Physical controls

*Control lighting

The buttons along the left edge of the radio are customizable, in that you can set the RGB color. However, they completely ignore the dimmer / headlight level. Only the screen backlight gets dimmer when your headlights are on the physical buttons always remain at full brightness. You cannot control the brightness of the buttons at all, only the color. Thus at night they are pretty bright brighter than my gauges or anything else on my dash. This is another area Pioneer cut corners with this radio.

*The Mute button is directly below the Volume Down button and is easy to hit by accident. I've muted it a couple times when I was just trying to turn it down a little. Physically there isn't any kind of bump or divider separating the volume and mute buttons the whole thing is perfectly smooth across all 3 buttons. That exacerbates the problem and makes it even more likely to accidentally mute when you didn't mean to. If you press the Mute button again it unmutes the radio and it returns to the previous volume level. However, when the radio is muted and you press Volume Up or Volume Down the volume jumps down to 0. Coupled with how easy it is to accidentally press Mute instead of Volume Down, that gets rather annoying. I accidentally press Mute, then hit Volume Down or Up and then I have to scroll all the way back up to my previous volume level manually. I think pressing Volume Up or Down should just unmute and go back to the previous level.

*The eject button does not function when the vehicle is off. I'm not sure if that is a bad thing or good. The OEM radio the Pioneer replaced could eject when the car was off (and it was a 6 disc changer), which was convenient to run out to the car and grab a CD without having to mess with the keys. On the other hand, perhaps it's good that the disc can't be ejected without the keys, as a security type thing.

**FM Radio

*Radio reception is markedly worse than the OEM radio this Pioneer replaced, or the factory radio in my Nissan Quest, or any of the other vehicles I've ever operated. One particular station I listened to regularly for the last 20 years has so much static that I can no longer listen to it. I had to pull the radio out of the dash to connect an LCD screen to it, so while I was at it I disconnected and reconnected the antenna to make sure it was well seated. Unfortunately the antenna connection wasn't the problem the radio just has suboptimal FM reception.

**External LCD

I installed a Performance Teknique Icbm-9939 12.2" Ceiling Mount Flip-down Monitor (see my review of that product it's a good LCD for the money) for the kids to watch movies in the back seat. The good is that the video output works exactly as expected. Further, if you connect an external A/V source (like a game system the Wii is 12V which makes it well suited for car use) the radio will pass that video through to the external A/V output too. I was a little concerned it wouldn't but that works as it should.

HOWEVER, there is a major, major limitation when it comes to using an external LCD with this radio. Most car LCD monitors have wireless infrared audio output, which allows people in the back to listen to the audio with wireless headphones so everyone else doesn't have to hear it too. Here's the problem with the Pioneer it has no fixed-level audio output (at least none that I could find). What this means is that if you run your audio output line to the LCD panel, as I have done, then when you turn the volume down or mute the radio, it also affects the output volume to the LCD panel and thus to the headphones. In other words, it is impossible to have the kids listen to a movie using only headphones so the driver doesn't have to hear it. Now, I anticipated up front that the Pioneer was not advanced enough to work as the OEM radio in my Nissan Quest, which allows the kids to listen to a movie via headphones while the speakers play something entirely different out loud, like the radio or CD. I figured the Pioneer could not do that, and it doesn't. But the fact that the wireless headphone capability of my LCD panel is totally useless because of the Pioneer is a big let down. There's no point in the kids using headphones when the movie has to be blaring out the speakers for them to work.

**Powering on

When turning the car on, the radio start up time is fair, but not great. For example if you were playing a movie off of a DVD or USB drive it will have to reload / buffer the movie, which takes a few seconds. I have a Nissan Quest with a factory entertainment system and it always resumes instantly (I assume it buffers several seconds of the DVD into memory). The Pioneer does not work that smoothly there is a few second delay.

Some reviews have complained about the radio "forgetting" what MP3 it was last playing when you start the car. I have also seen this many times now. It seems to me that the radio only occasionally saves the current place in a song. When you start the car all power to the radio is pulled abruptly, and it doesn't have time to save the current position. So when it powers back on it has to resume to wherever it saved last. Often that means it jumps back into the song you played before the last one. Yeah, that's annoying. It doesn't do it every time though. Maybe one of four times I start the car.

**Pioneer Mixtrax

Pioneer Mixtrax on this radio is a complete joke. I really don't know why they wasted time developing this, because to me it is useless. What it is supposed to do is analyze your music, find songs with a similar tempo, then kind of jump from one song to another and mix them up. It has various audio effects (some of which are pretty cool) to "blend" from one song to another. You can set it to play a song for up to a certain amount of time say 45 seconds then it will jump to another song. Now, for starters, the type of music I listen to is not conducive to this. Maybe it is useful for dance or rave music or something that's pure beat, but for 90% of "normal" music, it's simply annoying. Nothing is as grating as getting into the flow of a song to have it abruptly yanked out from under you.

So what I did was set Mixtrax to always play the entire song, that way at least I could make use of the neat transition effects from one song to another. I discovered 2 major issues with this. First of all, it still cuts off a significant portion of the song it lops off a full 20 seconds off the end of the song. Now, when I'm listening to Norwegian Wood and I don't get to hear where Lennon burns down his girlfriend's flat because she made him sleep in the bathtub well, that messes up my day. So it's a nonstarter for me right there because it still truncates the music.

But here's the real killer Mixtrax destroys the music fidelity. If you have this radio then listen to a song with good highs and lows, and turn Mixtrax on and off and on and off and listen closely. It totally cuts off the highs and the lows. It just kills the fidelity entirely. I think I know why when Mixtrax is running the radio as to reprocess all the audio on the fly that is how it adds effects to the song. The CPU / software in the radio is simply not powerful enough, so the bitrate has to be reduced and thus the fidelity is destroyed.

So even for those of you that listen to the exact right kind of music that Mixtrax would be useful for, it's no good because it greatly reduces the audio quality of the music.

**A/V inputs

The radio has 3 different inputs for A/V:

*Aux input, which is just audio only. This is for plugging into the headphone jack of your iPod, phone, etc, so you can play the audio out of the radio. That works fine, and is nice when I want to stream some internet radio station from my phone through my radio. The audio was good and clear sounded great.

*A/V input, which is full video and audio input. I use the A/V input to hook up a Raspberry Pi computer to it. You can also hook up things like Wiis, XBox, etc anything with a video output. As I mention above, this is passed through to the Video Output too, so it can be viewed on external LCDs if you have them installed. It would be nice to be able to change the A/V button's icon in the menu. The icon is a video camera, and I'm not sure how many people would be plugging video cameras into their car radio, so it's probably not very applicable.

*Rear view camera. I have not hooked one up yet, but the radio will automatically switch to this video source when you put it in reverse (if you have that wired to the radio). It is nice having that independent of the A/V input so you can use both a backup camera and game system / computer without having to unplug things back and forth.

**App mode

I have an iPad, but I haven't bothered buying the expensive Pioneer App cable to hook it up to the radio. There's not much point in doing so since my iPad doesn't have 3G data, so I can't listen to Pandora through it anyway. However, I do have a Samsung Galaxy S3, which I cannot connect because Pioneer was too cheap to create the software to allow it. Pioneer does have units that work with Android phones, but not this one. Either Pioneer wants to save money by not bothering with the most popular smartphone in the world (Android holds 75% of the phone market), or Apple paid them money not to. Either way, Pioneer is saving money at our expense by not supporting Android.

**GPS Module

Pioneer offers the AVIC-U250 Add-on Navigation System , which adds GPS navigation to this head unit. However, it costs $320, which is 150% of what I paid for the radio itself. Plus, given all the GUI deficiencies the radio has, I don't trust Pioneer to make a GPS that's half decent.

Just installed this in a 2002 F150 this weekend. It will fit but with some modification to the inside of the dash. Wiring harness was easy and color coded the same as the harness for the vehicle. Wire ends could have been pre stripped but no big deal. Also got the parking brake override from amazon and that was easy to install when hooking up the wiring harnesses. The aux jack is in the rear of the unit so I picked up a male to male 3.5 mm stereo wire (6ft) from walmart and ran it through the cup holder compartment. Picture quality is great, but gets a little washed out from the sun as they all do. Overall, for the price, this unit is great. Pieces not included but recomended: Vehicle specific harness-$5 on amazon. Vehicle specific face plate trim-$10 amazon. Parking brake override $15-20 amazon. 6foot aux cable $5 walmart but could probably find it on amazon. Not difficult to install but dont try it if you dont have the right tools and some basic knowledge of how things work

Nyko iBoost Mini Battery Pack for iPod Mini

Nyko iBoost Mini Battery Pack for iPod Mini
  • Up to 10 hours extra play time
  • High quality lithium-ion battery cells
  • Charge and transfer files, all at the same time
  • Can be charged with car charger (not included)
  • Charges via AC adapter supplied with iPod, or via computer's USB or FireWire port

The other reviewer is 100% correct. The iboost when charged and left unused will only last about 2 days. Then the red starts to flash and then it is out of battery. You then have to charge it again and it will last you another 2 days if not used. But if you do use it it will last a while. Like 10 hours for 1st gen and 20 for second gen. That is if you use it immedialty after it is done charging. Warning also could cause your battery to be out of sync!!!!!!

I gave a 2 stars because I brought my Ipod to listen to school everyday. (I had a TA class where I listen to music and grade papers) So it worked for that becuase I consitinly charged the battery everyday. But if you are looking for a Battery Pack that is more realiable and is recharagable (that could replace your depleting battery) look further. This is not what you are looking for.

I purchased a Nyko iBoost Battery Pack for an iPod mini back in December and it started failing within two months of purchase. After six months it failed to hold a charge. I notified Amazon about this and they also could not back up the product with a replacement or partial refund. Do not buy this product as there is no guarantee, either from Amazon or the manufacturer. I suggest buying an external pack (i.e. Belkin) in which the batteries are separate and can be easily charged and replaced. Chalk it up to a painful lesson learned about buying things like this from Amazon.

I bought this bat pack around 2006 and I'm still using it to this day. With mine, if left unused, it will stay charged for a few weeks. While being used several hours a day, I get at least a week minimum use out of it.

I'm not sure why the other two reviewers had such bad luck. In fact, my iPod Mini 2G that I bought this bat pack for is still working right along with the bat pack itself and has since been passed down to one of my kids.

I'm actually considering buying one more of these as a backup to the one I have.

Perfect replacement for original battery # 690071 or 691235 but the literature does not say so until you get the battery with its packaging. It fits and works on tool set # 840055 which includes drill # 691234 and other tools. I will never again buy Craftsman tools because Sears deliberately changes their batteries and chargers so that they are never backwards compatible, and you have to buy new batteries at more than the cost of the original tool set. Batteries are the weakest link on portable tools, so buy with battery replacement in mind-get them early before they are discontinued.

The referenced (and advertised) item is NOT the item that was shipped. Without notice of backorder status or requested permission from AUTO BARN to ship alternative item number, a different item #691240 was sent. After inquiry with the shipper, they admitted that the sent item was a replacement for the other 'back-ordered' item. Research on the shipped item revealed that there was a factory recall for the shipped item 691240 due to 'possible fire hazard'. Via AUTO BARN, I requested a statement from the mfg.'r that the shipped item was equivolent to that ordered and that there was no fire hazard either. The shipper AUTO BARN has refused to respond or acknowledge my concerns. I have requested a refund or replacement for the correct ordered item. So far, no response. Even it fits my drill and charger, they changed the battery pack. So there is no 3 contacts, but only two side ones. (the third towards the center battery which is on my battery packs 691034 is missing on this one).

This means that my battery charger 690507 can not (will not) charge the battery pack.

That is it.

If you are more electronics savvy, i looked inside the battery what was actually changed. There is just totaly same inside (even exactly the same NICD batteries) with one exception from minus pole there is a connection to the third above mentioned pole via some piece of small unidentified electronic device (condensator or resistor probably). So i took one from my expired battery pack and made it in about 15 minutes with my solder. It works now. I guess manufacturer wants you to buy new charger or the whole thing..... They have to eat i guess.

I have 2 of these batteries. They both lose all their charge after one day. But model # 840639 19.2V UniSource(tm) 3-5 Hour Battery & Charger Kit is a battery [i have 2 of these also] which holds a charge for over 2 weeks! But i can not now find the 840639 for sale on the internet.

I have a stored vehicle that is used only on rare occasions. I do not wish to reset seat, radio and other of the myriad of memory's so I choose not to disconnect the battery. The Battery Tender is the best solution in my case and to have the battery at full charge not only extends the battery life, it does not require me to idle the car regularly to make sure it will start when I wish to drive it. Great product..

This Charger is Awesome! It can charge any 12 volt battery on my farm. 5amp and 2 amp charge modes are gentle and effective. It takes a little extra time to get the charge completed, but if you plan ahead and let it go overnight it works very well. Now instead of boiling a battery because of a bad charge timer on my old battery charger I can leave this one unattended for days. Capable of charging batteries on large diesel tractors and small lawn tractors. I love it.

Note: the stowage compartment is an O.K. feature, better than not having one, but not completely amazing either.

Used this overseas to charge batteries using a generator, really nice quality unit. Like the various terminal ends supplied, both clips and bolt-on connectors. Liked the removable power cord, allows for use of country specific power cords if you don't have proper adapter. Didn't so much like the large storage box for all these cords that is attached to the charger. But for some this might be a nice feature.

BestDealUSA Battery Charger for LG Optimus S M T LS670 P509 MS690My charging port went out on my LG Optimus so i got this. 50mAh is the charge rate for the battery bay. I like this beacuse i have a 3600mAh 3600 mAh Extended Battery and dont want to COOK my battery. the 3600mAh battery takes 4 1/2hrs to charge to full from dead. 800mAh for the usb plug on the bottom. It will charge a battery and usb at the same time, i thought was cool also. The AC plug folds down in to the unit for compact storage.

This is a must-have for android phones! I have multiple batteries and this charger is perfect for heavy android usage! I am ordering another one!

Okay, So I have to say this works as well as I need it....so far. I've only had it for about a week, so durability has yet to be determined. However, I have to say for the price I'm very happy.

I was looking for an inexpensive device to play my iPhone4 through on my car radio. I had one that worked with my iPod Touch but it didn't charge my phone, thus I end up buying a car charger for my phone, which is where my dilemma came in. I didn't want to buy something that needed the charge base of my phone, and there weren't many options within my budget. Then I came across this....granted there were no reviews so I was skeptic. However, so far I'm pleasantly surprised.

I don't know what all needs to be said. It's not perfectly clear, but does play well through my car speakers. Of course I leave my phone sitting in a cup holder between seats or directly below my radio so I don't really move it too much. I have moved it once while driving and it did get a little static, but I mean you don't need to be on your phone while driving so that's not really a problem. I do love how it can use all the 80 channels; on my other one I could only use 2 of those and then I had to fight stations for sound. Another bonus is that while the transmitter comes with a charger, it works without being connected so I can hide the cord until it dies.

So for the price, I'm happy. It works for me... (^_^)

The chargers work well. The headphones are cheap but work. They got four stars because you really can't beat two chargers and a pair of head phones for under 10.00. The two chargers alone are worth that and the headphones were just a bonus. Headphones have a mic and button built in that starts and stops playback / calls (LG Escape Android Phone) but no volume control. The length of headphone cord where it "Y's" starts at the mic and isn't very long which puts the mic about 3 inches from my chin. The ear pieces are not extremely comfortable but will work long enough for a work out or typical family phone call. Again, you can't compare these to more serious headphones like beats, bose, skullcandy ect.

BlueAnt Supertooth 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free Speakerphone (Black)

BlueAnt Supertooth 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free SpeakerphoneI have been selling wireless since 1996 and have used multiple headsets, hands free solutions, etc. This has the best voice quality of any in-car set up I have used. I was using a Jawbone, which I still have, and is excellent. I am just tired of having something hanging on my ear X hours a day. I am a gadget freak for sure but I am tired of the tool on my ear.

I made some calls at 80mph in my wife's minivan on the turnpike to friends to get their feedback before using it for business and they did no know I was on a speakerphone...that's good enough for me. The voicedialing, as with any voicedialing feature, sucks. They all suck. The voice answer did not work either say 'ok' to answer...yeah my kids were laughing at me saying 'ok' 6 times and then the call went to voicemail because it never answered. But I expected that...so just reach up and tap the answer button...no worries. My concern was voice quality, and it passed the test.

The auto phonebook transfer to a blackberry will not work from the device but will work if you do it from your BBerry's blutooth menu and push it to the device. It took about 10 minutes for my 1500+ contacts to transfer. I only did that so I could hear the name of the inbound caller, which is cool. The reality is we all have our phones right next to us when the call comes in and we can look at the phone's screen if need be.

01/09 UPDATE: I got a new car and well...I have to turn this off for business calls. It's just not good enough. What changed? Well, just my car. There is nothing worn with the device. So maybe the cars insulation is coming into play? I am driving a C6 Corvette and I am certain it is not as insulated as my previous car (Audi TT) or my wife's minivan. That being said, if your car is well insulated from road noise you should love this device. Cheers, Josh.

Being a fan of the supertooth 2, I got the supertooth 3 for the text to speech feature which is supposed to announce the caller's name based on your address book. Problem is that I could never get it to say the caller's name, instead it will only say the number. I'm using it with a blackberry 8830 and have also tried it with a Mot Krzr with the same results. Contacted the company over the phone who's support is great but they couldn't get it to say the caller's name either and suggested the I send it back. Not good for a new product.

I'm sending it back and we'll see what happens with the next one.

----------------------------------------------

Update 6-13-08:

We still can't get the ST3 to announce the callers name either. We are on our third one after returning two of them. In our company we have BB8830's and Pearls. Tried on both with no luck, only phone numbers are announced. Also tried on two Mot KRZR's also with no luck either. Called vendor three times now and they had me do the batt thing also. They finally said that our vendor may have had a "bad batch". This one is really hard to believe. I called our vendor who is not happy that this "may be the case". I'm now waiting for blueant to send me an envelope to send the unit back and to then send me one directly from the factory.

I'm not holding my breath on this. Guess it's like software... never by version 1.0 of anything. For a few weeks, there was nothing out there (internet search) that pointed to this problem but now it's everywhere.

Aside from that, the unit performs as good as the Supertooth Light verison.

------------------

7-3-08: Still haven't received the product return package from the manufacturer. We are still getting the Supertooth 3 device for clients though because the other "advertised" features do work and work well and so far is the most "hands free".

Buy BlueAnt Supertooth 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free Speakerphone (Black) Now

After much research here on Amazon, I decided to order the BlueAnt Supertooth3 to solve the dilemma of California's new cellphone law. I did not want any such product, but some of the available solutions are definitely less wanted than others. The Plantronics 510 Voyager would be good for a person who doesn't mind wearing gear and doesn't use sunglasses or other glasses, but I'm not a headset/earpiece kinda gal. The BlueAnt Light, with the protruding mic, sounded like a major irritation just because of the temperamental mic that would get stuck. For me, the lack of Caller ID made it unacceptable. I don't answer unnecessary calls while driving. The Jabra speakerphone does not come with a home charger. That is ridiculous, and I would never buy a product that required another purchase, when it should come with it in the first place. I saw so few reviews for the Supertooth3, which was disappointing, but decided to write one myself.

I received it yesterday. It took just under an hour to charge, and it comes with a home charger, car charger and two magnet clips. It wouldn't sync the phonebook from my LG8300, not even one at a time contacts. This means that Caller ID announces the incoming number, not the name, but that is okay with me. I had never used voice dial on my phone, but the Supertooth booklet instructed that one voice tag was necessary on the phone in order to use voice dial. So I made one voice dial call from my phone, and then tried it on the Supertooth. It worked fine. I can say, "Call Sonia Home", and it dials Sonia's home phone as opposed to her cellphone. In order to enable handsfree voice answer, one must depress the volume button until it gives the voice message that it has been done. Another reviewer of the BlueAnt Light said that the flashing blue light was driving her insane, but that light lets you know the device is working as it should. For some reason, it was not flashing right after I got it and not working, but I assume that is because I did not know how to use it.

The most annoying thing by far is in the way I have to use it, due to the fact that if I get out of my car and am within 30 feet, the BlueAnt will answer the call and I can't take it on my phone. I make many short trips and in and out of buildings at a short distance. So I have to turn off the Supertooth3 before I get out of the car, and turn it back on when I get back in. What I don't know is whether it is necessary to re-enable the voice answer by depressing the volume button every time I turn it on, but that is what I have been doing. I also wonder if these devices are made to withstand the extreme heat in the car in summer. I certainly hope so, because we have weeks at a time of 100+ degrees. I also hope it is made sturdily enough to handle being turned off and on frequently.

The voice quality of calls both ways is better than the Garmin Nuvi 360 by far. The magnets are strong. The clip was kind of hard to get on my thick visor, and I won't be able to use the business card slots on the back of the visor, but the device is small and it looks cute. It's easy to take it with you and reattach it. The battery life is said to be 800 hours if you never turn it off, and much more if you do. I will be turning it off every night.

I'd say this is the best product for this purpose, which for me is simply to comply with a law that I wish had not been passed. I find all devices to be a distraction, and a cellphone alone is less distraction than in combination with other things. Guess what? Californians can still text message while they drive! Doesn't that make you want to visit? ;)

Just as the first reviewer. I'm having the same problem with my supertooth 3. I have an Iphone and it will only announce the number not the name and Blueant requested I send it back. I will update this as soon as I recieve the new one. And yes customer service at Blueant is excellent......However, I do pay shipping back to them....that's not so good

AND NOW FOR THE UPDATE : 7/5/08 My third Blue Ant st3 is all that !.....this one works perfectly with my iphone , the first two worked fine but did not say the name of the caller.....the early models of st3 do not work with all phones.....it was software issue that has been resolved....the key here is if indeed your having problems....getting an st3 with a higher serial #....Blue Ant customer service is outstanding....Talk to Dave. he'll make it right. .... oh and i would now give this product AND OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE a five star rating !!!

Want BlueAnt Supertooth 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free Speakerphone (Black) Discount?

I really wanted to give this 5 stars but it just wasn't perfect. How about 4.5 stars. The product pretty much worked as advertised. Uploading the address book was a snap. In minutes I had the product up and running. Controls were easy to use and voice features appeared to work just fine. I spent some time using the product in a variety of conditions and everything appears to work perfectly. Incoming sound appeared to be very good and I had no trouble hearing callers even in somewhat noisy conditions. Callers reported to me that my voice sounded a bit hollow or had a slight echo but they had no trouble hearing me. Pairing and unpairing has worked perfectly so I have been very happy using this. It has been a much better solution to me then a earpiece. Unlike other users, I actually had more trouble with the number caller ID then the name caller ID. It called out the names perfectly but seemed to have occasional trouble completing saying the number. At times it would cut part of the number off. On to the pros and cons:

ProsEasy to set up and use. Generally does everything it advertises athough not quite perfectly. Good battery life and excellent sound caracteristics, easy pairing and unpairing make this a joy to use. The case is attractive and very functional with the magnetic clips that let you unhook the unit quickly. Voice controls work perfectly.

ConsInstruction set could be better. You have to sync the address book when you add a new contact. An automated sync would have been a very nice feature. Caller ID software need just a bit more work.

Overall a very nice package. I recommend this product.

Belkin USB Charger & Sync Cable for Apple iPod (White)

Belkin USB Charger & Sync Cable for Apple iPod
  • USB for Phone
  • 4 ft
  • 1 x Male USB
  • 1 x Male Proprietary Connector

The original USB cable that Apple gives you when your buy your iPhone is merely passable to get the job done, which is odd considering the quality and construction of the device it's paired with. The one that came with the iPhone, the cable by the base of the USB port frayed and came undone after 3 months of use and was promptly replaced with this Belkin cable. It is thick and strongly constructed and have had it for over 2 years without any issue.

First of all the title of this is seller is misleading

"Belkin USB Charger & Sync Cable for Apple iPod (White)"

if you read below, they are selling the cable, the charger is being sold separately.

I had mine (purchased cable and charger) a very short time when I noticed my ipod was not charging. The connection to the charger is loose and needs to be pushed in snugly when connecting, watch your ipod to make sure it is charging. Disappointing to leave it charging for hours, come back and find it is not charged and the connection needs to be pushed in more firmly again. Once set up, don't jostle it.

I saved a few bucks buying Belkin over Apple... not worth it if the Apple charger is a better quality.

Other than that problem, it works fine and is now over three years old.

I was expecting the thin cables for most iPods Classic but this was like thick gauge wire! I go through a few cables because they are thin and fragile. But by the looks and feel of these (Bought 2ea) I am happy and they were a LOT cheaper than what i was paying before 20$+ at some stores. 6$ dollars come on you can't beat that!

Want Belkin USB Charger & Sync Cable for Apple iPod (White) Discount?

As another reviewer stated, the connection is loose and does not stay. It will charge for a few minutes then the wind can blow or something and it will stop charging. It gradually got worse and after about three months it stopped charging and my itouch stopped detecting it all together. I kept trying to wiggle it around and found that the two halves of the charger into iPod end was splitting and coming apart. I take care of my things and my electronics and accessories usually last a long time.

I bought the wall charger by Belkin to pair with this cable and switched to an apple cable. It worked great, the wall unit is very cheap compared to apple so I recommend this pairing since apple usually provides the standard cable anyways.

We had to replace our 4-wheeler battery every year. We were buying cheap China made batteries before, and they were cheaply made and didn't last. This time, I searched for a battery made in the USA, and although it cost a little more, I could tell as soon as it arrived, it was a much better quality battery than the previous made in China batteries. The Big Crank has tons of cranking power, isn't chinsy like the China batteries, and hopefully will last more than a year.

I am no fan of FM transmitters -all that I've tried do not perform with reliability and clarity. This one is the worst I've tried. I tried this instead of my Kensington cigarette-lighter-powered transmitter. It was much worse with way too much static.

My main purpose of buying this, though, was for when I'm mowing with my WorkTunes Peltor WorkTunes AM/FM Hearing Protector headphones. I hooked it up to my Nano and the receipt was poor, quiet, with some static. However, the worst part was that the transmitter kept falling out of the iPod because it is not clipped in like most good accessories.

Also note, there is no brand name to be found; no website, no phone number, etc.

[UPDATE 4/2/09] It has now failed. I decided to try to use it with a shower radio, but that only lasted a few days. Plus I had to put it so close to the radio, I practically had to wrap the antenna around the iPod. I bought this and it actually works across the room and you can hear it!

I have bought numerous transmitters trying to get one that works with clarity. This transmitter is the best of all. The only problem is to connect an iPod charge line to it, does not fit. But, I just charge it overnight on the computer or disconnect the transmitter for a short time to charge the iPod. The main thing is the reception of the transmitter and that is great and the best one of four transmitters tried.

Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable Speaker

Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable SpeakerUPDATE: This review was based on my purchase price of $29. It's value decreased considerably if the price is much higher.

This has about the same footprint as my iPhone. It's about a fraction of it's weight. Build quality is excellent. The speaker contains a rechargeable battery and there is a clear indication of when it needs to be charged and when the charging has been completed. More on the charger and that "clear indication" in a bit.

Pairing with my iPhone was immediate right out of the box. I turned on the speaker, went to the bluetooth discover screen on my phone, it picked up the unpaired device, I entered the super-secret code number (0000), and it was done.

Sound quality is good (for this type of speaker). The sound is clear, there is very little (but at least some) bass, and it doesn't sound tinny. I bought it for playing background music on the deck and it's certainly clear enough and there's definitely enough volume for that.

The description implied and it should be clearly stated that in addition to working as a speaker this also works as a speaker phone and can also pass voice commands to the phone. In fact it works just like the Motorola S9 headset except that forward and reverse don't seem to work with my iPhone4 (and it's much more difficult to wear as a headset).

The AC charger is universal (at one end); it accepts 100-240V at 50/60 Hz.

Now for the minor issues:

There's a very bright and annoying light that insists on flashing when music is playing. According to the (well written) manual it means there's either a call or music on standby. Near as I can tell there isn't. This can be easily "fixed" with electrical or duct tape. :)

If you want to charge the speaker from your laptop or USB charger you need to supply your own mini-USB (laptop/charger end) to micro-USB (speaker end) cable.

Minor annoyances aside, this speaker is a good value. You can share music from your mobile device at good volume and reasonable fidelity while keeping said mobile device on your person. I haven't tried the wired connection and frankly if I was looking for that kind of speaker I'm sure there are plenty available that would cost less while providing the same sound quality.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews can take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and if there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

After purchasing a more expensive product from Best Buy and having to return it because it did not work, I found this on line at another web site. I was very tempted to buy it, but checked out Amazon's price and the SAME PRODUCT was $60.00 less on Amazon. That sealed the deal. It works great with the Droid (on which we have stored lectures and music). Great sound and since it's used only in the car, it does not matter how far apart the speakers can be from the phone. Wish it had come with a way to attach to the visor, but otherwise it's perfect! (Especially because of the price!)

Buy Motorola MOTOROKR EQ5 Bluetooth Portable Speaker Now

This has to be one of the best impulse buys that I have made.

I was looking for a Bluetooth stereo headset to go jogging with at the time, and saw this and thought that might be neat.

The one thing that surprised me was how small it was, its around the size of a modern touch screen smart phone, although about twice as thick.

The sound quality is around what you would expect from something this size, it will not set the world on fire, but it is far superior to the phone and the PC that I normally have it connected to. Setup was easy and the unit connects to the smartphone within seconds of turning on.

As well as the phone I have it paired with my laptop, so I don't leave the sounds in the living room when I nip upstairs. If your considering buying separate speakers for your laptop, this is something to consider as well as wired speakers.

The only downside is occasionally around the house the connection drops, but it reconnects as soon as the signal is good enough.

A few quick points:

Better speakers than most smart phones, without additional wires.

Adds portability to your music from your laptop, without carting the laptop around, or leave the phone on charge whilst you walk round the house.

Controls on the unit, to pause, skip both forward and backwards, volume controls (these control the volume on the EQ5 not the unit its connected to).

Control to make/receive calls (becomes a speaker phone), if you don't want speaker, flick the switch and the call drops to your handset.

Can use as a speaker phone with Skype.

Maintains the connection, with a few dropouts round a three bedroom home.

I would say that these complement a smart phone & laptop extremely well, and the price is around the same as a reasonable set of PC speakers.

I have had the EQ5 for a little over a month.

I use this mostly with my Android Nexus One phone.

Pros: Compact, rechargeable battery, easy to

setup and use, performs well. I have also

paired it with my Dell D420 laptop. (It took some

effort to get A2DP working in Windows-7). Very

reasonable price.

Cons: The only con is the lack of base. (Although it

does a great job considering it's size).

I gave it 5 stars because it does a great job for

my needs, for a speaker system to play NPR and other

streaming audio, from my phone and my laptop, when

I travel. I almost never use it at home.

I bought this little gem to listen to my iPhone/iPod in the car. Traffic noise makes the iPhone/iPod speakers hard to hear. I tried those FM transmitter gadgets that play through the car's FM radio, but they don't work so well in large cities where every clear FM channel is taken. This EQ5 speaker solved the problem. It is small, the same size as my iPhone, so it fits in my pocket or any place in the car dashboard, right front seat, or any other place I want to put it. The sound is clear and as loud as you want to make it. I'm not big on music, but I listened to a few songs and they seemed just as good as any FM radio. I also use it when watching Netflix movies on my iPhone or iPad to boost the sound. This is quite a nice little gadget.

I am an extremely satisfied customer and would recommend this charger to anyone. I purchased this battery charger about 1 year ago, and have waited until now to post a review because I did not want to mislead anyone. I can safely say this is one of the best products available on the market.

PROS:

Accurate power display

Versatile charging settings

Compact design for easier storage and relocation solutions

Large low gauge wiring for both the charger leads and electrical outlet plug

High volume twin ventilation fans and heat dissipating fins on body

CONS:

Battery clamping jaws may be too large for some applications

Somewhat hard to understand automatic charging logic

No cranking assist

Working in a dealership, the shop provided chargers were completely unreliable and had no advanced charging functions. All it took was one failed charger mid programming, and I ended up spending 3-4 hours to fix a job that ended up paying 0.6 hours. I then decided that was enough and I needed to buy a heavy duty charger of my own. I wanted something compact that could fit in my tool box drawer for security reasons, and to make sure nobody would use it when I wasn't around. I also needed something with flash program functions to keep the voltage steady. This charger answered every need of mine and more. I am not sure who is the real manufacturer of this charger, but I have seen it rebranded under OTC and other automotive specific tool brands. It also uses a very similar charger function interface as the roll around Snapon EEBC500 unit, which is what drew me to this charger. But this charger's main advantage is the flash programming mode which allows the user to set the voltage from 13.0V and higher and the charger will automatically adjust amperage to suit, from 0 to as much as 70 amps. The large fans keep this unit cool which will aid in it's life and the low gauge wiring appears very strong and will hold up. There are sometimes the jaws will not fit on the battery itself and can only be used on the jump start terminals, so depending on different vehicles this may be an issue but it has not been for me as nearly all of the vehicles in the brand I work for have jump start terminals. It is likely possible to switch out the jaws anyhow. One odd thing is the automatic charging function which sometimes I don't understand. I am not sure if it uses the battery's internal resistance or is aiming for 12.6 volts 15.0 volts or what the case is, however I am confident it will not overcharge and "cook" a battery if left alone for hours. Overall I am very happy with this purchase, it is a tool that I feel is reliable and will last a long time as I use it almost everyday. Many technicians in the shop I work ask where I got the charger from as they can see by the build and functions this is a high quality product. Amazon has the most competitive price I found around and the purchase went smooth.

We saved several hundred dollars by buying this unit and the cart only takes up more room. Must have for programming BMW and other cars that require a stable voltage while programming.

I bought this charger to replace the expensive and fragile German made chargers and so far have been pleased. If it is connected to a car and run on battery charge setting, it tends to supply overvoltage, as much as 15.6 volts and has caused overvoltage faults in control modules. If it is run on flash reprogram setting, I set the voltage to 14.8 and have had no problems. The fans are a little noisy, but in a busy shop, not too noitceable.

Bluetrek Compact Classic Ultra Slim Loud and Clear Carkit Speaker Driver Pack - Black

Bluetrek Compact Classic Ultra Slim Loud and Clear Carkit Speaker Driver Pack - BlackOK, I have to admit I had high hopes for this unit. I liked the thin design and using the mic to turn the unit on/off. Having the unit on the visor keeps the mic and speaker close. I was hoping that Bluetrek had improved on the previous design since I had read many mixed reviews on this and similar car kits. The unit charged quickly though took a while to pair initially. Now, when my iphone is searching and I lower the mic it pairs in seconds. Hold the button down and access voice control to dial. I've only made a few calls, but the other end could not tell I was on bluetooth. The volume can go loud if you need it, but with the speaker close to your head you won't. I have not tried it with windows down nor with music in the background. Also, I have not tried it outside of my car so I can't speak to the distance it can hold a connection. Only time will tell if it can hold up to the heat of the Las Vegas desert. For the price, i'm very satisfied.

I ordered 4 of these for myself and other family members not too long ago.

Worst piece of junk I've ever encountered, hands down...or hands free.

3 failed to pair... no matter what we did on our new Iphones. One did. I sent 2 back immediately for a refund from Amazon.

One I smashed into a million itty bitty pieces and mailed it to Bluetrek. It was worth the $47 of satisfaction I got from obliterating this piece of garbage.

I wish that I didn't have to give it even ONE star!

At least Amazon answered and reimbursed me. ( They have my everlasting loyalty for standing by me )

Bluetrek customer support is non existent so I can only say they don't care about their product

and won't support it.

I solved the problem with the purchase of Jabra Drive hands free devices instead.

Pairs up easily and works like a charm. So far I've used it for 3 months and it hasn't needed a charge yet.

I bought 2 of these, thinking they were like the one I had previously owned. Not even close! Looks similar, but sound it so bad you can't even use it. My speaker phone on my mobile is a better option. Total waste of money and time :-( Tried to return them, but I was on vacation, tried when I got back, but Amazon says I missed the return "window" by one day! Also, had to return one right away, did not accept a charge, so I didn't get to test until later....The one that did except a charge didn't recognize my phone at first, so much time wasted...

I thought this would be the answer to my all my phone-on-board worries! However, there's no one home so this just keeps on ringing in some very key areas.

What's good:

1) the price

2) Easy set-up

3) Extremely good/clear speaker

4) Manipulating phone controls can be done via the kit or the cellphone

5) I have found that the battery power has been quite reliable.

What's bad:

1) people on the other side of your conversation have great difficulty in hearing you clearly and without drop-outs/breaks in the signal. Even when you speak no more than two inches from the microphone. This makes for an extremely frustrating conversation when you are trying to focus on the road. i sometimes have to switch back to the handheld in order to finish my conversation. For this reason alone, i could never recommend this buy.

I bought this for $20, which was a very reasonable price. I find that the speaker quality is O.K., and people sound a little tinny. Don't have the window down or you won't hear anything as it is not very loud. But it holds a charge for a long time.

I got this extra charger. The only thing that worked is the wall adapter itself. The USB retractable cable did not work! I also tried with different computers, laptops USB ports and different locations for outlet (home, work, hotel) and the same message: "device not supported" came up. I used it for my Iphone 3S, and Ipod touch without success. Not recommended.
