The charger was exactly what I needed. I'm a college student and I've been using it daily for a few weeks now and haven't had any problems. It doesn't seem to be BRAND new, however the dell charger is in great condition and I'm completely satisfied (especially based on what I how inexpensive it was compared to others).

This is the second charger I have bought for my Dell, the last one was not an original from Dell. So definitely recommend this one, works great and is a real Dell charger.

This might be the same volume as the standard bulky adapter but it fits in my pack pack so much better. I wouldnt even consider buying an other type anymore. Also shipping was pretty quick. I cant rmeeber how long but it couldnt have been more than 3 days.

This item gives every indication that it's a genuine Dell OEM AC Adapter for my laptop, and is working quite nicely. I'd order from this vendor again.

Novothink NT02-BLK Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPod touch 2G (Black)

Novothink NT02-BLK Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPod touch 2G
  • Power up while walking, running, hiking, or biking, while on the beach, camping, or traveling anywhere.
  • State-of-the-art solar panel technology allows your iPod touch 2G to powerup with the power of the sun.
  • Durable, yet lightweight and slim design.
  • Full access to touch screen.
  • USB connection allows you to charge or sync with iTunes without ever having to take your iPod out of the case.

Probably the biggest complaint you'll get from iPhone/iPod Touch users is concerning the short battery life of the device. Apple wanted to make the iPhone/iPod slim and portable, so they put as small of a battery in it as possible. Unfortunately, if you play a lot of games on your device, this small battery is eaten up quickly. The Novothink Surge is a secondary battery with a solar charger. Charge the Surge by leaving it on a window sill or on the dash board or plug it into any USB port and the built in battery charges up. Slide your iPhone or iPod (make sure you get the right Surge for your device! There are two different versions!!) and you effectively double your batter life. The iPhone/iPod still feels very ergonomic in your hand even with the Surge attached and takes no time to get used to. You can even charge your device while it's docked in the Surge. The Novothink Surge is well worth the money!

As an owner of a solar photovoltaic company, I loved showing off my phone and my "solar" charger. In fact, I used the charger as promotional material and gave away free chargers to those who signed up for my email list. I worked ok but never fully charged in the sun even after hours of full exposure.

Unfortunately, my personal charger melted on my dashboard after 45 minutes in the sun! It was an average Colorado spring day hovering around 68ยบ F so it wasn't unusually hot. The solar component started to warp and the battery bulged out on both sides. I immediately went online and looked up the site looking for a contact #. I called the 888 line and ...oh, had to leave a message. After a day or so, no response. I left a message on their "contact" form. No response. Called again, left a message. No call back. Does this company exist? I believe not.

Don't waste your money on another company with bad customer service. Or NO service at all.

My son got this for his ipod and it has been attached since day one. He loves the extra charge it gives his ipod. The solar charging is a rather slow process that, like all solar chargers, must be left in bright sun. But where this item really shines is as a battery backup.

Want Novothink NT02-BLK Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPod touch 2G (Black) Discount?

Beyond lighting up a FALSE indication of charging when connected to a computer thru USB, the charger is all dead both after USB and solar sessions to charge it. I wonder how Apple certified it as suitable. Surely only benefitiary is Apple with its royalty income; all others are taken for a ride!

Never could get the product to charge my iPod, other than by hooking it up to an outlet. What's the point of the solar panel other than misleading decoration? The battery pouch swelled up, breaking the unit apart (see photos) rendering it inoperative. Went to the web site which is inactive, phone number is "not a working number." Amazon should be ashamed to carry such junk from such a shady vendor! I'd give it zero stars if that were permitted.

Arkon GPS-NHWC Mini-USB Hard-Wire GPS Cable-Black

Arkon GPS-NHWC Mini-USB Hard-Wire GPS Cable-Black
  • Input: 12-24V
  • Output: 5V at 1A
  • Features built-in power converter and overcharging protection circuit
  • Compatible with most Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, and Mio GPS that use the Mini USB Power Connector

I hard wired several of these cables to my street and dirt bikes (BMW 800 GS, KTM 530, Husqvarna 310) for use with a Garmin Nuvi 550 and Oregon 450 T. They work well but prior units have failed. I traced the failure to breakage of the small internal wires due to shock and vibration. Riding aggressively off road creates quite a bit of shock and vibration. I suggest that if you use any of these small usb cable units on a motorcycle that prior to use, remove the box cover (2 small screws) and apply clear silicone sealant to the tiny wires and other internal pieces to secure them. Let dry, then reinstall the cover and you are ready to go. An added benefit to the silicone treatment is that it resists water which can also cause failure. Since going to this bit of extra effort i have had no problems and my GPS units work well. I would have rated 5 stars if the usb came pre-sealed and treated but then it probably would cost more. Overall these work great and the price is very reasonable.

Requires a little bit of wire stripping and soldering, as should be expected with a hardwire install. Works great with a Garmin Nüvi 1490T. Unlike some vehicle power solutions, it doesn't send the Nüvi into USB mode. The toroid makes it a little difficult to snake the cable through your vehicle, but it's not too bad. It would be nice if the plug was a right-angle.

Good solution for those who want to hard wire a charger (without using an accessory/cigarette lighter plug). I would have rated it 5 stars if the box that contains the circuitry had been a little smaller.

I wired this into my motorcycle to power my Garmin and it worked well for about 6 hours. After that, my Garmin Nuvi 765T started reporting "Accessory connected to wrong port" every few minutes and stopped charging. I ended up ripping out this charger and replacing it with the OEM Garmin charger http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0086CTL5Y/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_5 with leads soldered right to contacts and then wrapped in electrical tape. The OEM charger works much better.

The product is ok but I wish the box was smaller I couldn't fit it in the A-Piller so I had to hide it in the roof liner. This shortened all the wires and it barely made it to the fuse box. Also it would be nice if the plastic around the USB connector wasn't so thick. The TomTom has a recessed connection to you have to shove it in there and hope it fits.

  • Panel: 40"X20"X3.5", 36 lbs., Padded metal storage case: 41.3"X22.3"X5.3", 18 lbs.

Purchased the Economical Version of this product directly from their website. These solar panels are solidly built. They feel really solid. They also come in sturdy storage cases. After spending a month or more looking all over the web, I chose to purchase from this vendor because of the storage cases and the great customer reviews on their website.

I have three (130W) "economical" versions of these panels. What is offered here is the "professional" version of their 130W system. This is actually a nicer product than the economical version. The difference between the economical version and this version is a) inclometer (to check optimal sun angle), b) CEA Solar patented control charger (for blow by blow geek status updates :) and 3) theft-alarm deterrent system.

My version does not appear to be available on Amazon but is available from their website for about $645. ). As soon as the inverter arrives (A Samlex PST 200S 12A 2000 W Pure Sine Wave inverter), I will be running 390W Solar arrangement with the Samlex inverter and 4 Optima Yellow Top Dual Purpose AGM Batteries.

The reviews on their website are right on. Their customer service support is exemplary. They will NOT sell you what you don't need, and they give good advice about accompanying products. I chose to wait until my panels arrived to purchase the inverter, since I had heard horror stories about UPS guys and glass panels shipping with inverters.

Seriously, go to their website. Look at their products. Call Bob Nichols and ask him questions. Fill out their questionnaire to figure out your actual solar needs. These guys are cradle to grave merchants and I feel very secure that if any thing goes wrong they will work with me to find solutions.

Will post another review once everything is up and running, which should be very shortly.

I bought a cheap battery 6 months before I bought this one hoping that it would last me a year or soit didn't even make the 6 months. The MotoBatt is fast cranking and high quality. Amp hours are really important. My old cheap battery was 9 amp hrs; brand new this barely made the starter turn the engine over. This battery is 10.5 amp hrsit cranks it over fast! My advice, don't go cheap on a batteryit will cost you more in the end.

Excellent replacement battery. Fits perfect. Should last quite a while and don't have to worry about fumes, corrosion or spills!!

Monster A-IP-FM-CH-PS Wireless FM Transmitter

Monster A-IP-FM-CH-PS Wireless FM Transmitter
  • Wireless FM transmitter/charger for playing iPod through car stereo system
  • Broadcasts iPod tunes through stereo via choice of almost any FM radio frequency
  • Charges iPod during use while optimizing audio performance
  • 3 favorite station presets; 24k gold contacts for max power transfer
  • Compatibility: iPod nano (1G and 2G), iPod mini, 3G iPod, 4G iPod with click wheel, iPod Color, iPod Video

First off, people are getting this transmitter confused with the previous Monster FM transmitter. You are NOT limited to only 8 stations. This transmitter allows you to program in ANY station you choose, and it's very easy to do so.

Pros:

You can program in any station! The stations are NOT predetermined so any empty station you find, just program it in and youre set to go, which makes this perfect for road trips.

Charges up your iPod while you go.

You can set three 'favourite' stations so you can switch back and forth between a couple if one goes out.

Very simple and easy to use. Not a lot of cords to get tangled up.

Cons

Every FM transmitter you buy for your iPod is going to have a loss in sound quality. It is NOT going to sound like youre playing a CD. It sounds like the radio.

No dock or anything to set the little station switcher on. I would've like even a double sided sticker mount so I could stick it to the dash or something instead of it hanging there, but I'm really just being picky here.

Finding a station in the surrounding Cleveland area was tough! There are hardly any completely static stations (I never realized how many darn country stations there are here, yeesh.) So far I have found 4 open stations. However, this is NOT the companys fault. Finding a clear open station is soley going to depend on where you live and where you are when you drive.

I found 3 completely open static stations starting at 87.5 and up. OF COURSE, this FM transmitter starts at 88.1. Grrr. But it wasn't a problem because in the end I was able to find 4 open ones throughout the spectrum. However, it would've been nice if it started at 87.5.

Okay this is COMPLETELY an aesthetic complaint but I dislike red LED lights. My car has blue so it doesn't match, but once again, that is completely nitpicking.

All in all, this is worth the money. It really is a must if you want to play your iPod on the road, but don't expect it to sound like your surround sound home theatre system. It is an FM transmitter.

Buy Monster A-IP-FM-CH-PS Wireless FM Transmitter Now

I recently purchased this product along with the 20GB iPod, as I was tired of constantly having to swap CD's in the car on the way to work. And forecasting several trips to Tahoe this season, I knew I wanted to have continuous music on my journey.

The product has several stations to select from, however, being in a metro area, all but one of them is actually occupied by a very strong local station signal.

Before buying the product, I recommend checking your radio dial to see if you have heavy stations from 88.1 to 89.5. If you've got a heavy station on all those channels, this product isn't going to provide the best performance. As the product manual says it's tough to compete with a 50,000megawatt transmitter :).

I was able to find one station that was mostly unused here, 88.5. It has some background static, but no music or talking. As soon as I plug the device into the ciglighter, there is an audible pop on the radio so I know it's broadcasting. I did follow the instructions to increase the treble on my stereo for best results, and it does help.

Because of the way it connects to the iPod, I have found that adjusting the iPod volume does nothing to the transmission. You'll need to use your radio volume to change it accordingly. In between songs you'll probably hear some static too, as if there's a strong signal around you, it will bleed in.

This morning I noticed that I got quite a bit of interference when a large truck drove by...perhaps from their CB/radio system, but I can't be sure.

Aside from these things, which frankly I consider minor compared to swapping 50 CD's, it was well worth the purchase, especially if you do not have a car with an iPod dock, or a tape deck (if you have a tape deck, you can get the tape accessory instead of this one, and you won't have to compete with radio waves).

Enjoy!

Anyone who owns an Apple iPod realizes the importance of being able to listen to your collection of songs anytime, anywhere. It is for this reason that I researched a mobile device for my unit. Originally, I was determined to buy an iTrip due to the compatibility of the system. Well, upon further investigation, I discovered that for a little more I could get the Monster Cable rather than the iTrip.

The two are capable of the same thing; playing I-Pod tunes through a car radio receiver. The iTrip simply plugs into the top of the iPod and the music comes through the car speakers. Unfortunately, its simplicity makes up for its clarity.

There is much more static with this system, due to the fact that the reception is not as strong. On the other hand, the Monster Cable gives the option of eight different stations, one that is sure to be suitable for the area. By simply changing the setting on the deck to match the radio station, the music comes through without any static and very good clarity.

Another major difference in comparing the two units is their portability. The iTrip, although cordless, can not be placed too far from its base. That can be a challenge when driving since the movement of the car can cause it to fall if not properly secured. The Monster has a cord which holds the iPod in place and allows a stronger reception resulting in better sound.

Finally, the battery life is a very important issue when deciding on which unit to purchase. The iTrip drains the battery life of the iPod twice as fast as it normally would last. Therefore, long trips can be challenging for this device. However, the Monster Cable is designed to actually charge the iPod as long as it is plugged in, regardless of whether or not it is playing music. It is a great feature since the battery is virtually always being charged to its capacity. Finally, the battery life is a very important issue when It is obvious that the Monster Cable is a far better choice to take your I-Pod with you in the car. Even though it may cost more, the portability, convenience, and especially the quality of sound are definitely worth it

Let me reiterate something people keep missing here: This product (note the "Plus" in the title) DOES allow tuning to just about every station on the spectrum (I believe excepting the lowest frequency, 87.9 or something like that).

The BIG advantage here over the previous version (also available on Amazon for $10 less, and elsewhere for $20 less) is two-fold:

1. If you didn't have a station below 88.9 open, the previous product was unusable.

2. FM stations in the "mid range", from what I understand, have a better frequency response than in either the "low range" or the "upper range", which leads to a noticably better quality sound (I could hear the difference between a low-88 and 97.5 quite clearly, but a lot of other factors also come into play here such as what the other stations are broadcasting, etc).

Note that your satisfaction with this product will depend largely on the vehicle and sound system you are using it with. Some radios do a better job of "locking" onto a carrier wave that is only slightly stronger than the general broadcast wave. Some cars isolate the external antenna such that an internal radio transmitter has much less of an effect. For my purposes, I've used this product in both a Toyota Echo and in a GMC van; the GMC stock radio picks up the Monster transmission nearly across the entire dial, loud and clear; the Toyota's radio only picks up at one dial location (97.5) and even then will often pick up chirping around construction sites (which it also does with regular radio; like I said, I believe this has to do with not locking on to the carrier wave very well).

Finally, comparing this to other products. I started with a Griffin iTrip. That device was very nice, but had two fatal flaws:

1. It did not allow for easy changing of the radio station (and I absolutely hate having a bunch of encoded "songs" in my playlist just so I can change the iTrip frequency if necessary!)

2. It did not charge the device.

However, it had two points in its favor:

1. A very strong signal (I've heard charger-transmitters like the Monster one which yielded less transmission oomph).

2. Works well with my iPod in its protective case.

Now, a word on that latter.

I like my iPod. I like it's shiny back. I like it's pristine white front. I do not like scratches. More importantly, I do not like the thought of minor bumps causing the hard drive inside to crash.

As a result, I keep it in a protective case every moment that I can. I take the case off at night to dock it with my computer, but that's it.

The vast majority of car charger/FM transmitters require you to "dock" the iPod in their own little cradle. None of those cradles allows for a protective case, so far as I've been able to find. Many many nice FM transmitter solutions are completely unusable in my opinion because of this.

Moreover, I like to be able to hold my iPod when pressing its buttons etc. Any "cradle" system which locks its location to within three inches of the cigarette lighter (which Toyota in its infinite wisdom chose to place six inches above the floor on the passenger side) is also completely unusable.

Anyway, I wanted to get a transmitter that charged the iPod, allowed for easy, full-spectrum channel selection, and still both cut through the static in my Toyota AND didn't require a confining "cradle" to operate.

The Monster device here definitely meets my needs. As I said, it does well (actually moderately better than the iTrip) in my Toyota, allows me to place my iPod in a nice little bin next to my fingertips, and makes my commute a refreshing one.

One last note on this: I have noticed that the use of a cigarette lighter "splitter" so that you can plug both this and, say, a cell phone charger in at the same time, will tend to cause problems with the Monster transmitter and the iPod (causing my iPod to reboot). I think it says more about Toyota's anemic electrical system than the Monster device, but just wanted to throw that little tidbit out there.

I bought this with great expectations because Monster Cable normally make great products. But was deeply disappointed when I hooked it up to my car. I got nothing but static. It was like not being tuned all the way to a station. I took it back the same day I bought it. I believe it's where my FM antenna sit at on my Honda Civic and where the FM transmitter is. The box states that it's range is 3.5 ft and my FM antenna for my car sits on the rear window. Just a few inches out of range. So I believe that's where the static is coming from. I also have XM satellite and XM wants you to put there transmitter right next to your antenna for premium sound so I believe that's why I and other people get static because it's impossible to get the FM transmitter closer to my FM antenna. So if your antenna sits on your rear view mirror or on your trunk, you may get static. But if your antenna is on the hood or front window, then this maybe a good buy for you. But for me, it's a bad buy. It should have a stronger signal so it can reach antennas that are in the rear of the car.

Sunforce 52013 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer (Pack of 2)

Sunforce 52013 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer
  • Each panel creates 1.8 Watts of energy and charges 12V batteries
  • Works with motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles, tractors and more
  • Made of durable ABS plastic and amorphous solar cells
  • For indoor use--solar panels are not waterproof
  • Each unit includes 7.5 feet of wire, 12V DC plug, suction cups for mounting for easy mounting onto windshields, and battery clamps for plugging into cigarette lighter

I got these for my rv as well as my jeep that sits for weeks on end. The solar panels came packaged ok. No loose parts or missing parts. You receive both a cigarette lighter plug as well as alligator clips. Both adaptors attach easily to the solar panel. One of my complaints are the suction cups used to attach to the windshield. They don't suck! Meaning, they constantly fall of the windshield. You do get 4 suction cups in the packaging. I had to play with the cups to find the 2 that worked the "best".

Doing a little testing on my amp draw of my jeep. I found that is pulls .088 amps with no key and all accessories off. Sticking a panel to my windshield resulted in a reduction of my amp draw to .017 amps. This is better, but not quite what I was wanting. Remembering that all windshields come with a UV filter in them, I pulled the solar panel into the direct sunlight and found the vehicle was now charging .023 amps. This is more like it, however, reading the directions, these panels are not weather proof, meaning, waterproof.

Installing the second panel along with the first behind the windshield resulted in a charging of .017 amps. So, it seems I need to install both panels to keep my battery maintained while in "storage". Remember to check that your cigarette lighter is a constant power on (there is power with the key in the off position). If not you will need to install a aftermarket plug for the panels to work.

I keep several antique vehicles, two pickups, and two new cars I drive almost daily. So, I was looking for a solution to maintain the battery on my 2007 Siverado pickup with only 5,500 miles accumulated on it after almost four years. As you can see, it's not driven much and it still looks brand new for all intents and purposes. The standard alarm system and electronics place a constant drain on its battery and I was having to jump start every time the truck hadn't been started within a month I also knew that wasn't doing my battery any good.

Local and other stores wanted $15 to $20 more for just one of these solar maintainers than priced at Amazon.com. I was surprised to find this offer of two, for what amounted to the price of one, and quickly purchased them at the savings offered. I also have a pristeen 1981 GMC Sierra with only 22,000 miles on its clock. So, this two pack gave me one to use with it as well although the Sierra doesn't drain its battery quickly at all while sitting idle.

Now, this is two complete blister packed SunForce 50012 Solar Maintainers I received for a 50013 "Twin Pack" labeled product ordered from Amazon.com complete with spring loaded Alligator battery clamps and a "cigarette lighter" adapter. A generous amount of wiring is included (8 feet from the factory panel connection) with a standard connection to adapt either the provided "cigarette" or Alligator clamp type connectors. The wiring also looks well insulated and of a durable gauge to support long life in standard use of the product. The overall look of the product is sturdy but not unbreakable. So, it's not something to bang around with rough treatment. Stow it with some care when not in use.

I noticed a blue LED began flashing on the panel in normal room lighting as I removed the packaging. I walked outside and watched that LED immediately go brighter and remain solid blue. I connected the provided "cigarette" adapter and checked the power output. Using a new Amprobe ACD-14 Plus, I measured the output and found it exceeded the factory rating of 125 milliamperes @ 15 volts. The instructions say the voltage will read 16 volts to 25 volts in full sun, and the sun was already low in the sky as I made my measurement so I imagine it will hit 25 volts in full sun. With that thought in mind, do not turn on any electrical device using 12 volts with this connected. The excess voltage could cause damage.

I connected the unit to my Silverado's cigarette lighter connection, but the Silverado has a short style lighter and too much of the adaptor plug was hanging out for my liking. I then moved it into the deeper accessory plug on my Siverado, and it fit well inside it. Since power is always on at these Silverado connections, either would work for charging purposes. The unit lay easily in the dash depression on passenger side of my pickup and looked good there. As I connected it, I had immediately noticed the blue LED began flashing upon connection and went solid when I removed the connection a sure sign it was charging my Silverado's battery when connected. I'm sure the battery was ready for a charge as it had been two weeks since it was last driven.

The instructions say to disconnect the panel before starting and operating the vehicle for safety reasons, and that is simple enough without further details (see above voltage details). I wouldn't want it connected while driving anyway, and its thin small design stores easily under the passenger seat with its attached cable (roughly 14"x5"x1/2"). Sunforce also states on the packaging the unit has built in overcharge and discharge protection (no other electronics needed for use), and it is waranteed against all defects for one year with a five year total limited warranty.

The warranty will be voided if used outside and weathered, but the instructions say it can be weatherproofed against moisture by sealing the edges of the glass frame and around the plugs with a clear silicone caulking. Four small suction cups are also supplied, but only two can be used at a time. Personally, I don't trust the reliability of any suction cup on any device even if it is feather light. I don't need them, but they are included.

In my use, I'm looking forward to a long service life from this product that it appears I will get. At this low price, even a few years of reliable use (and not having to jump start my pickups) will easily pay for it. Now, only time will tell if one of these supplying up to 1.8 watts delivers enough power to prevent the electrical drain from my Silverado's security system on its battery. I know one can keep the battery pumped up on the older Sierra.

If this doesn't work for my Silverado, there is another larger and more powerful solar panel sold by Amazon that will for about $80 (6.5 watt Sunforce 22005 12-Volt MotoMaster Eliminator Folding Solar Panel). It rolls out on its nylon cloth of a size to roughly cover a dash, is made to handle abuse, and it is also fully weatherproof if needed outdoors. Indeed, one of these 1.8 watt SunForce 12 volt Battery Maintainers will also work very well in one of my antique vehicles instead of my removing their batteries if the 1.8 watts turns out not to be sufficient for my Silverado.

To further allay any fears concerning this product, the rated panel current, of the 125 milliamperes supplied, is insufficient to overcharge any automotive battery and a diode prevents battery discharge through the panel. One or both of these panels will aid in the prevention of battery sulfation and the resulting power loss it creates. These panels are NOT battery "chargers" and will not recharge/repair a heavily discharged/sulfated or otherwise damaged battery (internal shorts or dead cells). This product will overcome parasitic electrical system losses that would eventually drain a battery over time, such as while a vehicle is sitting idle provided those parasitic losses are not too great. Hence the name "Battery Maintainer".

*Also note a discharged automotive battery, that is still undamaged and not totally drained, can "rebuild" its power levels after some time sitting idle with all electrical loads removed. This "re-bound" is normal in good batteries, and this product can aid in that "re-bound" by working against sulfation.

***UPDATE*** December 1st, 2010

It has now been four months since I placed my two battery maintainers in use. My 2007 Silverado just sat unused for two months without being started, and its battery was fully charged when I started it. That never happened before I used this solar panel from Sunforce my battery would have been discharged enough, in only one month of disuse, to require a jump start. After TWO MONTHS of not using this truck, my battery was FULLY CHARGED and placed no recharge drain on the engine's electrical system when I started the engine!

I then decided to check my 1981 GMC Sierra, as it had just sat idle for 3 months. Normally, starting it after this length of time would have caused a squalling alternator belt as the battery recharged after starting the engine in it. This time there was no noise, and the truck's electrical guage showed only a normal draw as if the truck had been driven daily! Moments later, I turned on the headlights and the heater fan to "high". Even that didn't make the alternator belt so much as whimper.

I am now very pleased with the performance of these two Sunforce solar battery maintainers. It looks like my days of having to drag out the battery cables for jump starts are finished at least until I actually have a bad battery, and that may not be for a very long time now. Too bad these things aren't built into new cars.

***UPDATE*** December 2011

It has now been well over a year since I started using the Sunforce battery maintainers. Both are still performing as they did when new, as I checked them with an Amprobe digital meter. Both were still showing 18 volts output in sunshine and were close to the advertised ampere output.

But, while the maintainers have kept my battery voltages up over extended periods of a month or so of not running my vehicles, they don't fully protect from the naturally occuring problem of battery sulfation. Getting a 12 volt battery reading does little for starting an engine when sulfation has reduced the factory fresh (rated) available ampere charge below that needed for starting an engine the Sunforce product here only aids a little in sulfation prevention by keeping battery voltage up.

While these maintainers did work well for vehicles I drove once a month or so, the batteries still sulfated. The end result one of "maintained" batteries was recently unable to start the vehicle it sat in. A look under the vent caps told the story of why when the battery was initially reading 12.5 volts yet couldn't start the engine unless "jumped" from another vehicle and no, there were no parasitic voltages in the electrical system. The plates had all turned light gray with sulfation the normal alternating light and dark gray plate coloration just wasn't there. Fortunately, the battery wasn't as yet swollen.

I also own a BatteryMINDer 12248 charger/desulfator, so I put it on the battery. It immediately showed the battery was heavily sulfated with its yellow indicator glowing steady. Even though I had earlier charged the battery at 30 amps for 30 minutes and it still could not start the vehicle. After two days on the BatteryMINDer 12248, the battery recovered enough to start the vehicle again. But, I installed another battery and will let the BatteryMINDer fully desulfate this one before re-installing it.

What this points out is these Sunforce panels are not good for a long term (storage type) maintenance cycle on lead acid batteries without some type of regular interim battery desulfation. For this reason, some may be expecting a bit too much from these Sunforce panels. For those folks, the best solution will be using a BatteryMINDer solution for a day or two each month or so or just using a BatteryMINDer like the 12151 I use on a few of my stored vehicles. Whichever BatteryMINDer solution, rest assured the BatteryMINDer de-sulfation process will restore a sulfated and dead battery back to operation unless the battery has other defects. I've even used a BatteryMINDer to fully restore a 13 year old battery that had sat dead for the last five years in my garage. After a few weeks on the 12248 BatteryMINDer, that battery unbelievably returned to like new performance.

So, the Sunforce has its place but you might also want to invest in a BatteryMinder for periodic de-sulfation of any lead acid battery.

Gave my husband this because he was always complaining his battery was going dead. He has a van that he doesn't drive all the time but the couple of times he really needed to have it start in a pinch and it was always dead! Since I got him this solar charger there's a lot less cursing and frustration and it starts every time! It has made my life easier and he said it was one of the best gifts I got him ! I would definately recommend it!!

I have a Ford 150 Pickup that I don't drive very often and I was having problems keeping the battery charged. I am now using this product and it works great. I live in the Pacific North West and it works well even with our cloudy and rainy days. I think this item is priced a bit high here but it works great.

Amazon's product #52013 is confusing. This item is NOT the Sunforce 50013, it is two of Sunforce 50012. Though the description lists boat and PWC application, the 50012 is not meant to be around water, while the 50013 is completely waterproof.

According to the user manual, the panels can be waterproofed by tracing a bead of clear silicone around the glass frame. I've done this and installed the panel. We'll see how this works.

After several years of using Amazon this is my first eperience with this sort of confused product identification. The website makes it difficult to complain directly to Amazon, so buyers should beware.

In summary, if you have marine application in mind, make sure you order Sunforce #50013. It costs the same, although you only get one in the package.

Bought this to power both mine and my wife's Droid Incredibles and the ipod nano at the same time with room for more accessories in the future, but it couldn't even charge a single incredible by itself. The the phone's charging indicator would turn on and off repeatedly. It could charge the nano, but if you tried to play it while charging on this thing, it would produce a loud screechy-whiny noise. Don't know whether it was some kind of ground-loop interference or just dirty power. RMA'd.

I was using this to charge my phones and run something off the cigarette lighter at the same time. It melted! Got so hot I couldn't handle it to pull it out. Isn't that what the build in fuse is supposed to prevent? Don't buy this.

My charger has broken in half within 1 month of use. Charges perfectly, just I have had to super glue and epoxy the unit back together twice now. It won't hold up much longer.

The blurb says "great for charging iPhones, iPods, GPS..." NOT!!!! Do not buy this!! I would have given it ZERO stars but Amazon won't let me. Even though it has a 3 amp fuse the converter only allows it to supply each port with .5 amp, not enough to charge any modern USB devices which all require 1 amp. It will NOT power my TomTom GPS, my Samsung phone, my Phillips MP3 player, my LG phone, or anything else I have plugged into it. I threw it in the trash. Other reviews told me this in advance, but the blurb said otherwise and I believed the blurb. I will not be buying any further products from this seller because of the deceptive advertising. I'm still looking for a 4 port USB charger, darn it.

I hardwired a 12v socket and hidden it in the car. I have my Garmin traffic reciever plugged into the main socket as well as a mini USB and 2 x USB extention cables (to allow passengers to charge up devices). I'm not sure why others are having issues but it powers and charges my EVO 4G and GPS just fine. Simultaneously. I've even used another connection to charge my work phone and it charged fine. thumbs up from me.

Sunforce 82883 Solar "AA" Battery Charger

Sunforce 82883 Solar 'AA' Battery Charger
  • Solar powered
  • Charges 1-4 batteries at once
  • Meter shaows battery charge and output
  • Blocking diode
  • Panel can be angled to maximize solar power

Only way this unit would be worth anything is as a last resort. Even in full sun it rarely generates more then 120 mA and 80 mA is probably the average and the slightest wisp of cloud drops it to near zero. With todays 2000-2750 mAH rechargeable batteries this unit would take 125 hours to charge 4 2500 mAH batteries. Assuming 6 hours of "full" sun a day at 80 mA it would take almost 21 days to charge those four batteries. Real world would be more likely a month.

Like I said, maybe if it was all I had, but there are better places to spend your money.

I bought one of these several years ago and am surprised these are still made.

As someone has already mentioned, this unit doesn't provide a lot of power. You're really looking at weeks to completely charge a set of batteries and that's if you have a place that gets sun most of the day. Having it inside a window causes a pretty significant drop in amps, but leaving it outside for weeks isn't a great alternative either. Obviously partial charges and top ups may work for some people, but for most this is just not efficient enough.

But another big problem with this unit is the batteries are in a closed plastic case in the sun. Heat degrades rechargable batteries and I doubt any manufacturer would recommend it for such an extended period as this solar charger requires. I don't feel comfortable with how hot they get as it probably shortens the battery lifespan. There's a platicky smell when it heats up. There really should be an air gap and a more open case that allows excess heat to be carried away.

With two big flaws, I think people should apply their money toward a better charger, even if more expensive.

Works well. Does not work well when on dashboard of car because of UV protection of the windsheild. Direct Sun 160 mA, when on dashboard brought it down to 40 mA.

This charger is a piece of crap. It takes a week to get batteries to a partial charge, and has no charge controller built in so there is a constant charge / discharge going on. I left a set of brand new high capacity nimh batteries in it for 3 weeks thinking they would finally be charged and they where garbage. they would not even charge up to 25% capacity in a plug in charger afterwords.
