iOttie Easy Flex2 Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder Desk Stand for iPhone 5 4S 4 3GS Samsung Gal

iOttie Easy Flex2 Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder Desk Stand for iPhone 5 4S 4 3GS Samsung Galaxy S4 S3 S2 Epic Touch 4G HTC One X EVO 4G Rhyme DROID RAZR BIONIC INCREDIBLE 2 CHARGE Google BlackBerry Torch LG Revolution GPS Compact Size 360 degree RotatableAfter I upgraded to the iPhone 5, I needed a car mount as my Magellan car mount is no longer compatible due to the lightning port and the phone being taller. This car mount is easy to use, extremely portable, and works with different devices and not just the iPhone 5, which is great so you don't have to buy a new mount whenever you buy a new phone. You can securely mount it on your windshield or dashboard. The sticky pad is really sticky. I mount it on the windshield, and I had to pull it really hard to get it off. But I mount mine on the dashboard since it's closer to eye level, and it's easier to reach than mounting it on a windshield. I have a textured dashboard, and it mounts without any problem. The mount has two arms to secure the phone without any support at the bottom. I prefer a mount without any extra support down at the bottom so you can access all the ports without that getting in the way. This is especially the case if you're using it with the iPhone 5 since the lightning port and headphone jack are in the bottom. So far I'm really liking this mount, and glad I got this over the iOttie One-Touch Windshield Dashboard Mount (don't like the bottom support) or the Ciingo Mount (not sure how stable that sticky pad is over time, especially during the winter months in Seattle). If you want a car mount that is portable and affordable, I think you'll like this.

PROS:

The mount is very small in size and compacts nicely when closed so it doesn't take up much space

You can easily rotate the arm to just about any viewing angle, and turn the phone around from a portrait to landscape view without removing anything

The pincher is able to hold very large phones, including my Samsung Galaxy S3 (with a case on it)

The suction cup is very strong: it was able to attach to my dash, which has a textured surface, and not fall off on a long trip

CONS:

The suction cup is very strong: they provide a small tab on the back for you to pull to remove the suction cup (after you twist the dial), but even still, it can be very difficult to pry it lose if it has a great seal to the surface it's on

If you have a stiff suspension like in my car, the phone will sometimes jiggle around a bit (although this more a fault of the car than the mount)

I was looking for a dashboard car mount for my iPhone 5 so that I could use my phone for navigation. The phone fit perfectly and securely. However, when I went to stick the suction cup onto the dashboard, it didn't stick and had very weak suction! I even made sure to clean the dashboard from dust. I was disappointed and ready to leave a negative review because the product claimed to stick to any surface. I gave it the benefit of the doubt though. I took a wet paper towel and squeezed out the excess water. Afterwards, I rubbed the bottom of the suction cup with it and also the area where I was to place the mount on my dashboard. Afterwards it worked like a charm! Suction is nice and strong and I'm not worried about my phone falling down.

I ended up purchasing four different car phone holders before I found one that works that sticks to my dashboard, holds my IPhone 4, makes it relatively easy, with one hand, to insert the phone and remove it. And it stays stuck to the dashboard. I drive a late model Subaru Outback and after placing and testing the mount in many different locations, I found the most convenient one for me was mounted to the dash on left side of the steering wheel.

The three models that would not stick to the dashboard, anywhere I tried, are as follows (I returned them to Amazon without a problem:)

The iOttie Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder

The iOttie Easy Flex2 Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder & Desk Stand

The Tylt Capio Universal Car Mount

The one model that works, and is still working after a month, is the Aduro U-GRIP Universal Dashboard Windshield Car Mount. An added note is that this model comes with an extra grip in case the mount doesn't adhere well. I did not need to use it.

Want iOttie Easy Flex2 Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder Desk Stand for iPhone 5 4S 4 3GS Samsung Gal Discount?

To start, I got the product in a timely manner (about a week).

I was worried about the clasp part of the product not being strong enough to squeeze my phone. My next worry was the phone slipping out of the grasp of the clasp. I think both of the worries were resolved when I noticed the clasp is quite strong and there are sticky grips on the clasp as well. Despite the bumps, its held onto my phone very tightly. So no problem here. There is a 'one-handed' mount feature which is nice. There is a release button in the middle of the mount face that, when pushed in, releases the clasp and grabs the phone. Nice for getting in the car and putting the phone in without fussing with the clasps.

The swivel is great. Let's you angle and tilt basically any way you need (assuming you mount the iOttie pointing in the general direction you want/need). The swivel is strong too so you won't have to worry about a bump causing a re-angling or re-tilting of the mount.

Now I took a star off because I got this mount for my dashboard. Initially, right out of the box, it did not stick to my dash...anywhere. I tired 3 different spots and no success. I read some of the other reviews on trying to wipe the surface with a wet paper towel then trying but still, no success. What worked for me was wiping the dashboard surface AND the sticky suction. Then I was able to adhere the mount to where I wanted it originally. I'll tell ya, once this thing is suctioned on good luck trying to get it off. I tried and it is quite tough..so make sure you know for sure where you want it.

Overall, it's a solid mount without the clunkiness of some. The 'one-handed' mount feature is a nice and the mount itself is pretty solid. I got the mount so I could use my phone as a GPS and so I could glance over to see who's calling while not taking my eyes off the road. This definitely gets the job done for me.

Btw, I drive a Prius C and I mounted the Flex iOttie middle right of my dash (above the radio). It is stuck on there solid. Will update the review if there is any problems in the future.

-------------------UPDATE:

So I've had the mount for about a month and the mount has held up great. It is stuck exactly where I installed it.

BUT...I have adjusted my rating.. Here's why.

I currently have the iPhone 4S and I started to notice that music was skipping when connected to bluetooth. I soon realized that something in the mount (perhaps the spring) is interfering with the bluetooth connection, causing the music to skip. I know the mount is the problem because when I remove my phone from the mount the music stops skipping. It does not matter if I play music that is stored on my phone or streaming music (I know streaming music buffers at times but the music stored on my phone should not be skipping). ALSO, this affects calls! This is really annoying! When I make or receive calls, the voices on the other end gets broken up and it is hard to understand them. I have to take the phone out of the mount to understand them.

If I can't listen to music or take calls from my phone in this mount, what's the point?

iOttie...Please fix...

UPDATE --11/26/12 ---UPDATE

After updating the last time, iOttie contacted me and offered to fix the problem! The customer rep (Brittany) was very accommodating and offered to send me a replacement or the onetouch model. I chose the OneTouch and this does not seem to affect the bluetooth connection from my iPhone 5 to the car. This mount is also much sturdier imo.

I am adjusting the stars to 4 for the great customer service. If you want a sturdier and more reliable mount, I would check out the OneTouch mount.

2.5-inch Full HD 1080p Dashboard Car Camera DVR Blackbox F900LH

2.5-inch Full HD 1080p Dashboard Car Camera DVR Blackbox F900LH
  • 2.5" TFT LCD Display
  • Records in Native 1920*1080 Progressive (1080P), Supports recording in 1920*1080@25fps, 1440@1080@30fps, 1280*720@30fps, 640*480@30fps
  • 180 Degree swivel lens, 130 Degree Field-of-View
  • Supports up to 32GB SD card (not included), HDMI Port, MiniUSB Port
  • Loop recording

The only thing this camera does; is produce good quality videos. The instruction manual was lost in translation and is more of a set-up guide then a owners manual. There was no detail instructions of the features on the settings. But with some hit and miss' you can figure it out.

Pros:

Takes good quality videos. It uses about 1.7 GB memory for a 10 minute loop.

Loop recording works; allowing you different loop time options and overwriting older videos when the card becomes full

The suction cup window mounts is very secure and allows for several adjustments; allowing you in conjunction with the monitor able to rotate 270 degrees, and the lens rotating 180 degrees; multiple options in mounting your camera to the windshield.

The camera does stops recording when you turn off the car; and turns on and starts recording when you start the car.

Cons:

The motion sensor does not work. One time it worked; another time it recorded one minute loops; and while going 60 MPH it would stop recording and the the camera would shut off.

Auto shut-off does not work. I have the auto shut-off set for five minutes; but every time when I shut off the car; the camera records for thirty seconds and then shuts off.

Tripod is useless.

Had trouble inserting the memory card. Had to use a pen to install and latch the card in place.

I tried updating my Garmin Nuvi with the USB cable that came with camera. The Garmin had a fit (threw the cable away).

The HDMI did not work. I use the cable that was supplied and my own. The Sony Bravia showed that is was hooked up to the camera but no video or audio played on the TV.

Has digital zoom instead of a optical zoom.

Has a one year warranty; but did not include any warranty information.

Can use as a PC camera; I don't think so. No matter what I did I could not get out of mass storage mode when the camera is connected to the computer with a USB cable.

I have included three driving situations in the video. First part is driving on a sunny day with some shadows. The next part is driving at night, driving into a small town. The third part is driving about thirty minutes before sunrise. This was recorded in 1080P onto a class 10 SDHC 32 GB card.

The user manual doesn't make sense, written in poor english and with poorly drawn (and labeled) images. There is no indication of the amount of recording time (based on memory card size) or a complete list of options selectable from the menu items. The material is cheaply made.

The camera DOES however produce clear images (moving and still) and through testing I found the avi fies are limited to ten minutes each, when run overnight it will fill up the disk (memory module) and delete the older material in order to write new data (the main purpose) but that limited a 32gbyte module to two hours of actual avi files.

There is a socket to attach a tripod to (like normal cameras) but a strap holder prevents its use, two tripods that work for other cameras were unable to attach to the screw socket.

Battery life is extremely poor, after charging overnight it could not run more that 30 minutes on a full charge. An external power source will be required for anything over 20 minutes (car charger was supplied)

Excellent little Camera. The Picture is really great! The motion detection also works great. The battery was a big surprise, it last really a long time for such a small battery. It last about 2 hours or more. You have to charge the battery three times, and completely exhaust it three times to get the full benefit. I can tell you this is a great

little camera. Well worth the money. THANK YOU AMAZON!!!!!!!

CTEK US 800 12V Smart Battery Charger

CTEK US 800 12V Smart Battery Charger
  • Includes two interchangeable connection leads, one with clamps, and one with eyelet terminals; 5 year limited warranty
  • Four step, automatic switch charging, that allows for easy, convenient, no-watch battery charging
  • Charges 12-volt lead-acid batteries (Wet, MF, Gel and AGM) from 12Ah to 32Ah (charging), 12-100Ah (maintenance)
  • Maintenance pulse charging increases battery life and gives superb performance, and patented desulphation functionality allows for the recovery of slightly sulphated batteries
  • Compact design with mounting holes allows for permanent assembly, and the charger to be connected for months, makes this charger ideal for motorcycles, cars, lawn mowers, jet skis and any other vehicle with batteries up to 100Ah

I have one of each of these battery maintainers. Both of these can be connected to a battery indefinitely without boiling it dry. Both come with a set of battery clips and a set of fuse-protected ring terminals for permanent installation. Both have reverse polarity protection(hook them up to the wrong terminals, and nothing happens). The Ctek has a power cord; the BatteryMINDer 12117 plugs directly into a socket. The BatteryMINDer has a button that allows you to select maintenance mode; the Ctek has no buttons.

Some reviewers say the Ctek gets very hot; it does. The BatteryMINDer gets equally hot, and is always hot when plugged in, whether it is in the charging phase or maintenance phase. When the Ctek is in maintenance phase, it is only warm.

The BatteryMINDer 12117 manual states that it desulphates in all modes. One reviewer stated the Ctek also continually desulphates, but the Ctek manual mentions desulphation only in the first stage of battery charging. It could be continuous, but an oscilloscope would be necessary to test that, and I do not have one.

The BatteryMINDer 12117 charges a battery to about 14.1 volts; the Ctek, 14.4. After the initial charge, both go into maintenance mode. The BatteryMINDer allows the battery to drop to 13.4 volts and then keeps it there exactly. The Ctek allows the voltage to drop to about 12.95 volts, gives it a pulse up to 13.05 volts, lets it drop to 12.95 volts, gives it a pulse up to 13.05 volts, etc. If the battery being charged by the BatteryMINDer does not get up to 14.1 volts, it will not switch into maintenance mode. If it does not switch within three days, the instructions state you should manually select that with the button. The Ctek will automatically go into maintenance mode after 18 hours, if the battery has not already reached 14.4 volts and changed over.

The BatteryMINDer maintainer will eventually drain your battery(in about a week) if it is connected and the power goes off or it is accidentally unplugged, etc. The Ctek draws less than 1mA(an insignificant amount)in this scenario.

The Ctek unit is weatherproof with very weatherproof, molded-on connectors. Because the connectors are unique and no extension is available, the only way to increase the distance between the main unit and the battery you are charging is to cut the wire and splice in more. This can be avoided by mounting the charger in a vehicle's engine compartment and using an extension cord, but my engine compartment is so crowded I chose not to do this.

The BatteryMINDer is not weatherproof(they offer a more expensive unitBatteryMINDer 12 Volt OnBoard Battery Restorer/Conditioner Model# OBD-12 that is weatherproof). The connectors are molded-on and weatherproof, but they do not seal out the elements as well as the Ctek ones. BatteryMINDer also does not offer an extension, but I purchased a BatteryTender extensionBattery Tender 081-0148-25 25' Quick Disconnect Extension Cable that works perfectly.

The Ctek will push a maximum of 0.8A at 12 volts, while the BatteryMINDer is 1A at 12 volts(1.3A is what it delivers when a battery is at about 10.5 volts), making the BatteryMINDer a little faster.

At the time I am writing this, the BatteryMINDer is about $8.50 more than the Ctek.

I have given both of these five stars, and I have no preference between the two.

In a few words, this is the one 12V battery charger even I can use as in me being more computer technical than automotive technical person :).

So, before I say anything else, here are the specs so you do need to read further if this is not what you are looking for:

100-115VAC, 50-60Hz voltage AC

130mA rms at full charging current

2-32Ah battery size

0.8 A charging current

14.4 V charging voltage

5.5" x 2" x 1.5" size

Developed in Sweden

Made in China

The charger should work with nearly all 12V lead-acid batteries: MF, Wet, AGM, open and most GEL-batteries.

What you get for your money is:

the charger body (see dimensions above) with the AC cord permanently attached to it

set of battery cables with battery terminal clips

set of battery cables with eyelet terminals

a nice, velcro-sealed nylon black pouch with a transparent pocket for the manual

a very well written manual

According to the manual, the charger should be maintenance free and it's covered by a 5-year limited warranty (void if you abuse it or try to fix it yourself after it breaks) and you get CTEK's exact address, Web site and FAX number but no 'voice' number.

I am very happy with this device because it charged our little tractor's battery in no time overnight, actually following a very long winter that had the battery totally drained. The charger operates in 4 main phases:

desulphation takes care of sulphated batteries

bulk charges up to 80%, delivers constant current until the terminal voltage reaches the set level

absorbtion completes to near-100%

maintenance battery is monitored and it receives a pulse when the voltage drops (can keep it connected indefinitely)

Feedback is provided by the charge indicator, when it's in one of the first 3 phases and the maintenance charge indicator showing that you are now in 'maintenance' mode. And, very nicely, there is an alarm light which lights up whenever your battery is connected to reverse polarity.

As far as charging times, according to the manual it varies with the size of the battery, from 1.5 hours on a 2Ah, to 6 hours on an 8Ah, 20 hours on a 20Ah and 36 hours on a 36Ah battery. Like I said, ours was done overnight.

My impression so far is of a well built, complete battery charging set that's easy to use and comes with a well-written manual that can make even non-professionals like me look like 'experts'.

I bought this after reading about it on the Ferrari forums. This is the same maintainer Ferrari provides with a new car, only without the Ferrari logo. It is compact and fits nicely in the supplied carrying pouch. I use it on my Alfa Romeo which is not driven very often. I was tired of a dead battery from the car sitting for a few months at at time. I keep the car plugged in all the time when I am not driving it. It s easy to unplug right before I drive the car and I just plug it in after I am done driving. No more dead battery. It is really nice, because when I use my car the battery is at full power and I don't worry if I go somewhere if my car will start because the battery is never low anymore. I would highly reccomend the charger for your battery charging (slow charging) and maintaining needs.

I like the smaller size of this radio. Battery life is fantastic, and reception is good, too. I live about 5 miles from the local regional airport, and 40 miles from New Orleans International airport. I can receive transmissions from MSY ATC even while inside my home. I only have two minor complaints. I wish the display were a bit larger, but it is quite legible. Just wish it displayed more info other than a single line. And I wish it would have come with a headset adapter like the A24 does. That is a pricey little item.

Very easy to use the basic functions of the radio. Have not tried to use the program option yet and my not need it. I am carrying it as a backup radio. My house is 4.5 miles from the airport and I can listen to ATIS and the tower from my bedroom. ATIS is a little scratchy with some static but it is understandable. Tower is pretty clear. Im sure in the air the range will be better. So far Im happy with it.

I was actually lost looking around on the internet for the "Perfect Father's Day Gift" for not only my Father, but my Husband as well. I wasn't thinking I would hit it out of the ball park with the same gift for both.

For my father I thought flashlight or spotlight because what do you buy for the man that has everything? I remembered when I was little, 5 or 6 and my Dad would always have a Mag light flashlight for everything, one in his truck, one in the house, when they came out with the small ones he bought those too, so I figured a flashlight or spotlight might help him around the lake and would definitely be a great gift for him.. I can't afford anything else that man would want :)

My Husband, the Camper, Camping is his life, I got him a Tent for Father's Day, a Beautiful Coleman Tent he wanted, but then I bought the light for my Dad and had to get the same for my Husband "from the kids".. :)

First let me tell you, we've been faithfully disappointed in LED technology lights time and time again, until we found a lantern we recently purchased for our camping trip that boasted 400 Lumens, then we saw that an LED light could actually work, light your way, and not eat your batteries one after another. That light was the game changer, Guide Gear was the brand and it also is a fantastic buy, I will review that one separately.

I actually purchased the Stanley FL5W10 5 Watt/520 Lumen light on sale and was drawn to the fact that not only was it waterproof, but you can dive 6 feet under water with the light on!! It's not a deep dive light, but it is a neat little gadget if you've lost something near the shore at the lake. Aside from that, when dropped in the water it flips light side up, which is very handy when you accidentally drop it in the water, then of course it is BRIGHT YELLOW in case you didn't leave it on when you dropped it.

The other factors that drew me to the light, lol (pun intended), was that not only is it rechargeable, but it comes equipped with a DC and an AC charger with the package!!! YOU CAN CHARGE IT ANYWHERE!!! When it is done charging it BEEPS for you, if you leave it on the charger it will kindly remind you. It boasts a 10 Hour Use time on dim, so that's a pretty great thing in addition to being rechargeable.

Just a little bit of Battery advice, Batteries build up a memory with bad charging habits, it's like filling up your car with gas all the way once, then filling it up again and again and again once you've only used a quarter of a tank, the rest of the gas is old starts to lose it's ummph.. Batteries do this too, although they used to be much worse.

I always live by the rule of charging ANY NEW ITEM, YES, INCLUDING CELL PHONES, CORDLESS PHONES, FLASHLIGHTS, ETC, FOR A FULL 24 HOURS BEFORE YOU EVEN TOUCH IT. Even though it may beep and say it's full, leave it on for a FULL 24 HOURS before using it for the First time. Once you use it, don't take it off the charger then immediately put it back on over and over, and lastly let the battery go completely dead once per month to every 6 weeks, then charge it again to full. This will help extend the life of your battery hopefully and help prevent a bad build up or "Memory".

Now then, back to the light, The quality of the light, what you've been waiting to hear about, oh my good gosh this thing lights up the way.. I have never owned a light so powerful, it is absolutely 520 Lumens strong.

We live in one of the few places on the planet and in the USA that you can actually see the stars at night. We live in a very rural area with not a lot of traffic, light pollution or neighbors.. one such of our few neighbors lives around 5 acres away from my house, and a slew of dense cedar trees between us scattered here and there; well he always hangs outside in the evenings with some buddies, without fail and I wanted to check this light out, show it off for my husband so he could be proud of his new light. so I call the neighbor, I asked if he was outside, of course he is.. I stood on my porch and I shined the light in his back-back-back yard, meaning a hundred and fifty or so yards from his porch and i was lighting up very clearly whatever I shined it on, not faint, but an extremely clear line of sight, and he said WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT? I said our new Spotlight, he says "no kiddin", then I told him it was LED.. he said "LED?? No way!"

his crew immediately drove over in their ATV to check out my Husband's new Spotlight, then they all left me, including my husband and my son to go over to the neighbors to drink beer and play with the new light some more.. my mistake.. or was it.. HA, I had a nice hot bath in peace and quiet after a day of it being all about the Dads.. :)

My Father told me his story later when he called to tell me how much he loved the light, except he lives on the lake and they actually got in the water AT NIGHT and played with the light. He fishes at night, so he wanted to see what it could actually do.. he loved it, he lives in an inlet on the lake so the water is a bit calmer than the main lake and he couldn't believe how well he could see under water AT NIGHT with the light.

Anyhow, the light lives up to it's claims and more, it is dimmable, and is "dunkable" and I'm sure you can "Drop it 10 Feet without damaging it", although we haven't tried that out yet. I uploaded a picture comparing the size to a standard DVD for you to be able to see just how small this light is. Smaller than you'd expect compared to most spotlights but SO POWERFUL, It's amazing.

I would recommend this light for any household, Rural, City Living, Campers, Travelers, in your car on a road trip or just around town, this light is quite possibly the best light we have ever purchased.

*** Update 8/8/11: When I wrote this review my spotlight was manufactured by/for Stanley and the product on this page was a Stanley light and was yellow, Now it is Black and Decker they appear to be related, or share manufacturers, or have sold the technology, whichever, they appeared to have changed only the color from yellow to red/orange (typical B&D coloring), it's the same light I reviewed, only they changed manufacturers on us who reviewed the light prior **

I hope to have helped you with your purchasing decision.

Thanks for reading!

I have both the waterproof and non-waterproof versions. The waterproof version will not hold a charge very well and therefore gives very little operating life. About to throw it away, I decided to look into what was happening as the non-waterproof version works great and others have had the poor battery performance as well with this model.

The rotating on/off switch does not penetrate thru the plastic. Instead it moves a magnet that causes one to three internal magnetic reed switches to activate and allow current to flow to the light. The dimmer moves one of them as well I think. To try it yourself remove the cover, unscrew the three top screws then unscrew the battery charge lid retainer (one screw to the plastic tab). Pull the light out no wires get in the way. Try a refrigerator magnet over the black area until the light comes on.

The problem is with the reed switches. In the OFF (open) position the switches are not truly open, rather they still have a resistance of about 2000 ohms on my light enough to leak away most of the battery in a few days.

The magnetic switch idea was good but either the switches are cheap or they are defective in design. Only solution is to leave the light on the charger until ready to use hardly a good answer.

Want Stanley FL5W10 5 Watt LED Waterproof Rechargeable Spotlight Discount?

This is the second spotlight I bought this week. The first was a Coleman 4351-700. I did not realize from looking at it on the Internet how big and heavy it would be. It is enormous and extremely heavy because it uses a sealed lead acid battery (SLA) (like a car battery). My wife said it was too heavy and she couldn't get her hand around it. I returned it without ever opening the bubble pack packaging.

The Stanley seemed like everything I ever wanted. I need it for my sail boat where space is at a very high premium and every pound of weight really matters.

This light is small, powerful, and light weight. The light has a very tight beam and is even more powerful than I need. It was easy to light up trees that were 1500 feet away. I didn't have line of sight to anything further away on my first outing. You can adjust the light brighter or dimmer than the default setting. I didn't notice much more light when I went to the brightest setting. I could see a significant difference at the dimmest setting, but dimmest would still be bright enough for most uses. The instructions say that you can get 50 minutes at the very brightest setting and 10 hours at the dimmest.

Another reviewer said they could not turn the unit on using only one hand. I can, but it is easier using two hands, one to hold the unit and one to rotate the on/off switch.

Now for the bad news. This unit uses NiMH batteries (which are not bad). However, they are very susceptible to damage from overcharging and like to be kept charged. They do not have a memory effect like NiCads.

You can NOT leave the charged connected after it is charged (max 5 hours), and you must charge the unit at least once every 30 days even if you have not used it. I would have been happy to spend more money to get a unit that let you keep it on the charger by just having the unit turn off the charge to the batteries when they were fully charged. There is apparently more risk of damage using the 12 volt charger because the manual has a special STRONG warning about NEVER leaving it on this charger for more than 5 hours.

I knew when I ordered the unit that it had a non-standard battery pack. I assumed that this meant that I would someday have to purchase a replacement from the manufacturer. However, the manual states:

"The battery should last the service life of the unit." In other words, dead battery=throw entire unit away. They could have made this unit to take six off-the-shelf NiMH AAA batteries, it would have been worth the extra cost.

The manual tells you that battery recycling is required when you dispose of the unit. However, very few people would have the tools and patience to disassemble the unit to get to the batteries. The solution is either to not recycle, or smash the unit open with a hammer.

Looking at some of the negative reviews, I'm guessing some people can't read. "I charged it for 24hours" or "It was already charged, but I charged it overnight anway" Duck duck durgh duh!!! The instructions plainly state to only charge the product until the light is green, but no more than 3 hours, or you risk damaging the light. Guess what is sounds like most negative reviewers here did? That doesn't mean some people didn't get a lemon, which happens, but I'm leaning towards "users fault" with many of the bad reviews. I guess it is Stanley's fault, for not realizing too many Americans are too lazy/simple minded to read. They should have built in an automatic charge kill function.

I bought 2 of these over a year ago, one for my dad and one for me. They've worked great so far. They hold their charge a long time. They're small and bright. The flashlight feels solid/well built. It has a dim/bright control. I have thoroughly tested the waterproof claim during several night-time swimming adventures, the light passed the test/abuse. What's not to like?

I only have 1 complaint. The on and off control should be simpler/quicker.

TriStar TS-45 Charge Controller

TriStar TS-45 Charge ControllerThis is an outstanding charge controller. Installation was clearly laid out in the owners manual with factory default charge programs that cover most battery charge point voltages. The programs are easily set using small DIP switches. If you prefer to have a custom solar charging program (ie bulk chargeing voltage of 15.0 volts with a float of 13.4 volts) you can download Morningstar's PC software and manually input the charging points.

There are 3 different colored LED's on the front of the unit that let you know how your system is performing. The LEDS will tell you the status of your battery bank charge, the stage of charging process (bulk, PWM, Float and equalization), and whether or not the batteries are discharging. You will need to refer to the owners manual the first couple of times to decipher the lights, but easy once you know what you are looking for. Additionally, the LED lights will flash different colors to indicate different faults.

Lastly, if LEDs are too complicated or frustrating for the owner, Morningstar makes a LCD display that will tell you the same things the LED's will, just in a digital readout. I have not personally used it, but it is nice to know if I want a remote digital display hanging inside my cabin, I can do that instead of trudging through the rain to the garage to see how the system is performing.

This is the second charge controller I have used for my off grid cabin, and am extremely pleased. My previous charge controller (Xantrex C60) failed within a week and customer service was horrible. Xantrex was made in China, and the quality showed. The Morningstar is made in Taiwan and it is hands down built better and sturdier than the Xantrex.

I will update if the Morningstar has any problems in the future.

I've been using the TS-45 for three years now. It is one of those products that remind me of the "good old days" when things were built to last. This charge controller is bullet proof.

After retiring I've been doing a lot more camping in my truck camper. I prefer boondocking (free camping without hookups) but was continually running my batteries dead. I hate generator noise, so opted for a solar install. Three years ago I put together a 200 watt system using the TS-45 as my charge controller. I knew I made the right choice as soon as I removed it from its packaging. It's a solid little unit.

This controller does not have MPPT, but I don't need it for my system as I am recharged by about noon every day anyway. If you're looking for the MPPT version of this controller it's the TS-MPPT-45. There is also a 60-watt version, both in PWM and MPPT. Note, however, that if you want to comply with NEC guidelines your controller's amperage rating must be equal to or greater than 125% of your solar array's short circuit current output (Isc). That means to use the TS-45 your array's Isc must not be any more than 36 amps. This controller, however, will handle solar overloads of up to 130% of rated current, which will be tapered down instead of disconnecting the array. Over-temperature conditions are handled similarly.

This controller allows you to choose solar charging or diversion charge control, choose the system voltage (12, 24 or 48v), set your absorption stage charging voltage (set point), choose automatic or manual equalization and choose between PWM or on/off charging via a series of dip switches. It has terminals for voltage sensing wires (for more accurate reading of the batteries' state of charge), and supports temperature compensation (but the remote sensor is purchased separately). Three LED lights tell you how the system is performing, but I opted to also install a Trimetric 2020 meter for more extensive readings in a digital format. A meter is also offered as an optional item to the TS-45, but I have no experience with that.

Besides what can be set via the dip switches, there is an RS-232 serial port which can be used to connect the TS-45 to your computer for more extensive settings. I have never used that feature yet so can't comment on its functionality.

Also worth mentioning is the TS-45 comes with an outstanding instruction manual. Everything is explained clearly and extensively. In this day and age when so many items come with almost non-existent instructions this was a very pleasant surprise. I keep it where I can easily get to it and often refer back to it when wanting to learn more about the system.

Three years going and not so much as a hiccup with this charge controller. In fact, I am writing this from the Southern California desert via power supplied through the TS-45 right now. After my experience with this controller, I am sold on Morningstar products.

Charge controller came with good instructions, very versitle, will cover close to 4ooo watts @ 48volts. Made well sold by an American company, but not made here, but made well. I had a problem when I first ordered the unit, my firmware was out of date (not from the Company, from a solar reseller), attempted to update firmware, and unit locked up. Contacted Morningstar and they stood behind the product!! Sent me a new unit out that was already updated. Unit must be configured before use, but using the free software, it is a breeze, step by step (my 12 year old did it with me!). You can monitor almost any paramater with a pc with a serial connection, or usb to serial. I am very Satified with the unit. Would recommend to anyone for off grid use.

HQRP Pair MC3 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M (1F2M & 1M2F) for PV / Photovoltaic Syste

HQRP Pair MC3 T-branch Solar Panel Connector M/M/F & F/F/M for PV / Photovoltaic System plus HQRP CoasterThese plugs are made with a good quality plastic casing and aluminum contacts. Seams to be constructed pretty good. Great for wiring up solar modules in parallel. Casing snaps together and hold pretty good. A little difficult to get apart but after you get your wire in there it's there. Won't pull apart very easily.

I have a small installation at a home in Mexico, just 2 panels. I hated to twist the cables together so I bought a few of these. They fit very tightly, so snug that I could barely disconnect without a few hard full force tugs and wiggles, so no water is going to be getting inside there.

I installed a pair of solar panels on my roof that came with the "old style" MC3 connectors. I configure my panels as 12 VDC sources, so I needed to connect these panels in parallel. Using these HQRP T-branch connectors, I was able to do this and consequently use just one line pair from these two panels on my roof to the solar charge controller. These are high quality connectors and work well.

Last week I got one of those pesty speed camera tickets and know I was not driving as fast as indicated. Since the companies that contract to operate these cameras get a fee from each ticket that's issued, I'm convinced that they determine when and how the pictures are taken. I watched a video on the GPS Angel website and read a couple of positive reviews on amazon.com and knew I had to have one. Well, I tried it yesterday and it works just like the video says it will and this is a great product so far. I ordered the battery for the convenience of not having any hanging cords and will keep the power cord for times when the battery runs down. There are a lot of red light and speed cameras in my area and this is going to be a great investment for me.

I also have the GPS Angel Model # K1 which I purchased for my daughter. This V4 device is a great deal amd comes with a battery so no cords to plug into the cigarette lighter. I was able to enter in my own address for a new camera that was just installed in my neighborhood. Now my GPS Angel warns me well before I get to the intersection. I am sure this device has already saved me a ticket or two!

I want to start by saying this product works just like it is suppose to. You turn it on and it begins it cycle to acquire a signal for tracking you and Its seems to track you with accuracy, and even the speed control signal works as it should. Lets say you preset the speed control @ 30MPH if your speed goes above that amount it will signal you. Here is where the problem is, ALL of the false signals that this unit gives. I personally think this is due to incorrect information store in their

DATA BANK SYSTEM AND THAT THE COMPANY NEEDS TO DO A BETTER JOB IN THIS AREA. If THEY did this unit

would be a master peice. I've notice where this company relies on input from its consumers to note where RED LIGHT AND SPEED CAMERA LOCTIONS ARE. WOW you really want lay folk to know the difference

between a SPEED CAMERA A RED LIGHT CAMERA AND A TRAFFIC CAMERA. Maybe this is why I get false signaling when i pull to an intersection and there is only TRAFFIC CAMERAS,hum. So lets review, you are tracking me using the GPS ANGEL V4 so that you know where I am and in your data base you know where MOST NOT ALL of the speed and red light cameras are and in 15 Seconds (which mine is set) YOU

will let me know that I am approaching one of these loctions. All I can say is Great Idea, Poor service. TO THE COMPANY THAT MAKE THE GPS ANGEL V4 GET YOUR PEOPLE OUT THERE TO DO A BETTER JOB AS TO WHERE THOSE DANGER ZONES ARE FOR THE CONSUMER. FOR NOW I WILL KEEP MY ANGEL I DO THINK THINGS WILL GET BETTER WITH THIS COMPANY AND THAT THE FALSE SIGNALS WILL GO AWAY AND THEN IT WILL BE A MASTER PEICE.

Duracell 852-0217 MyPocket Charger for Cell Phones

Duracell 852-0217 MyPocket Charger for Cell PhonesThis little gadget is a very cool idea, but unfortunately it seems to trigger a fault protection if a cell phone tries to draw close to (or more) than 5V/0.5A out of it. I tried a bunch of different HTC phones and this little device seems unable to feed any juice into it. On the flip side, all bluetooth headsets I tried charge fine.

Also this thing only works with real batteries it refuses to turn on if one feeds it NiMH rechargeables. Tried with Sony CycleEnergy, Sanyo Eneloop, Duracell rechargeables. It only wants real alkaline batteries. That's a pitty, since NiMH batteries have a lot more juice to feed into a gadget...

Do not buy this product. The light indicating that the charger is working only comes up about 10% of the time. When I am lucky enough that they light comes on and stays on, as soon as I connect the other end to my phone or MP3 player, the light immediately goes off. 2 HUGE, COMPLETELY UNRELATED PROBLEMS! The sign of a truly bad product. Save you're money and buy something you know will work well, like an extra battery.

I use this to charge my BlackBerry on the go if I don't have any other options available to me -it works very well, and you can store batteries in the device without worrying about killing them just leave the cables unplugged. I wasn't excited about having both the mini and micro USB cables, but now that more devices are standardizing on the micro USB, I'm glad that I have it!

I use this to keep my Garmin Forerunner 305 charged during events lastin longer than 9-10 hours. Lasted 54 hours at a temperature of -35f with 2 battery changes. Blue light goes out when the AA batteries die and need changing. What a great find.

I found this item at a warehouse club during Christmas and thought it would make great a stocking stuffer, so I bought several of them. The club store version includes both tiny connectors for the iPod and Blackberry (mini USB.)

I was eager to test this charger and had an excellent opportunity since my Blackberry was nearly dead. Upon inserted two AA batteries and connecting it to my Blackberry (Bold), the indicator light turned green and the unit became warm. It ran for about 15 minutes and then turned off. I thought it was defective since it only added one bar to the battery meter on my phone and turned off so quickly. I removed and reinserted the plug and the green light quickly turned on and then immediately off. Believing the batteries might be defective, I inserted an additional 2 cells nnd the process repeated itself, while adding another bar to my phonne. Thinking the unit was defective, I opened another new unit and tested it again with the same results.

I'm was surprised by the small amount of power generated by two AA cells, and using such a method for even emergency charging would likely take 8-10 batteries for a full charge. I tossed this unit and bought the Duracell USB Charger DR7000LI, which contains a sealed lithium ion battery and functions the same. The difference a lithium ion battery makes is remarkeable.

While this unit might charge small electonics like iPod (about 75% charge from 2 AA cells,) I cannot recommend this product, particularly if your intended use is to charge a Blackberry device.

Black & Decker VEC1089ABD Smart Battery Charger with 15 Amp,10 Amp and 2 Amp Continuous Charge Rates

Black & Decker VEC1089ABD Smart Battery Charger with 15 Amp,10 Amp and 2 Amp Continuous Charge Rates
  • 3 stage, automatic high-frequency power conversion charging technology
  • Microprocessor control digital diagnostics and fault codes
  • Spark-resistant reverse hook-up and overcharge protection
  • Patented vehicle alternator check feature
  • Automatic float mode monitoring

I really like this charger. It does what I want it to do and it works well. My biggest complaint is that it has no on/off switch. The cooling fan runs as long as the unit is plugged in. I suppose this is to protect the unit from being shut off while it is still hot.

It would have also been nice to have a battery "type" selector instead of every time you turn it on, you have to restart it and select the type of battery you are charging. Even with those complaints it is nicer than all the other chargers I tried.

I own a Vector with 10/6/2 amp charging rates which I am extremely happy with, but forgot to bring it home from the lake place this Fall. I decided to purchase another charger & thought I'd try the 15 amp model. So far it is just as good as my other model, and has more charging and bad cell/battery identification capability. It seems to charge a battery faster than the 10 amp model.

The product worked correctly for only one charge. I was very careful to disconnect from 120v source before removing cables and connecting cables before plugging it in just as the instructions stated. Charged battery perfectly the first time. The next time I used it , it stayed at whatever amperage you set it for and never decreased no matter how charged the battery was.

I've had several chargers over the years, and this is by far the best I have ever used. When they say smart charger, they mean it!!

Had to charge the battery on my Honda Accord the other day and it worked flawless. I accidentally left the key on and the battery was completely dead. I selected 10 amp and it was fully charged in around 4 hours. It slowly lowered the amperage as the battery became charged until it was full.

The recondition feature on these B&D chargers is awesome. Used it on a Giant 4 cell 10 year old Caterpillar battery I had on my camp trailer. This allowed me to stretch one more year of life out of it.

Fantastic Product. Highly recommended!!

I'm not someone that spends all day on the road, but I do take enough trips and even use my iPod around town. Ipod car chargers can incredibly overpriced as can a simple firewire cable. So It's a bargin to get not only a car charger, but an extra firewire cable, so I can leave one plugged into my Mac all the time.

Looking for a car charger, I noticed this one had a removable FireWire cable which meant I could use any other cable I want. Now that I've upgraded to the new iPod (I got a new 15 GB) I was suprised to discover that it works with the new iPods too. I just use the dock-to-FireWire cable that comes with the new iPod and it works perfectly. Even IF I buy an extra dock cable, it's still less than the Belkin charger at 40 bucks. Plus I can use it interchangeably with my wife's iPod (my old one ;).

All in all, the PowerPod is a great value, flexable and future-proof. You can't ask for much more. I don't hesitate recommending this iPod charger to anyone.

When I initially bought my iPod Mini I did not purchase this, but I soon found out if you play your iPod constantly like I do, you will be in dire straights if you don't have one. Some people will complain that the portion that goes in the cigarette lighter is loose ow whatnot keep in mind that different cars have different lighter sizes although they may vary slightly. I drive a Nissan Maxima and it fits very well...the cord is a wee bit short in my opinion but still worth the investment to keep your iPod playing.

This is my second (and counting) Griffin accessory for my iPod mini. First I bought the iTrip transmitter, and then I picked up this dandy little gadget since I was using my mini so much more and kept forgetting to plug it in at night. I like that the wire disconnects from the power unit to hook up to the USB port on my computer to update my mini. It is sooooooooo easy to use and helps since I travel a lot for hockey. Definitely a bargain at twice the price.

I've had this product for about a month now and have had no noise or interference with my iPod mini. It charges while it plays, and I have had it plugged in w/o the car running (no longer than 1hr), and the car battery didn't die. I use it with the Griffin iTrip with great results. I used it on an 8hr drive from IL to MI and was very pleased. I will be making the same trip home and back to school again soon and suggest this product to anyone who makes road trips.
