Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter
  • LCD Display with backlight
  • Ideal for MP3, CD and MD Playback
  • Full range frequency settings
  • 3.5mm Stereo Audio Input Jack for most audio devices
  • Transmits music wirelessly from audio devices over FM frequency
  • Ideal for MP3, CD, and audio playback from other portable devices
  • Full-range FM frequency settings
  • LCD display with backlight
  • 3.5mm stereo plug works with most audio devices

The Coby-745 is in my opinion, the all-around best buy in the wireless FM car transmitter market. At $17.99 on Amazon, it is roughly half the price of most of it's competitors, but what's amazing is that it provides additional features! The cap on the built in car charger flips off to reveal a spot for another charging plug (like for a cell phone for example). The springs hold the device in tightly while in use and the charger unit is hinged to the transmitter, providing for a 360 degree+ rotation of the unit. The light up screen in blue shows the full frequency channels you can select from with the lighted dial, in increments of 0.1 MHz.

This unit doesn't just look pretty and have nice features, it also performs extremely well. On a 40 minute commute through back roads, highway and city, the unit didn't lose signal once and I heard ZERO interference, yes, that's right, none! Compare that to other reviews.

Downsides? All the downsides are common to most other transmitters: it doesn't have an on/off button, so you have to unplug the unit if you want it to stop drawing power. To get the sound just right, you have to crank the treble on your car stereo a tad (although this just may be a personal preference). And, you have to crank the volume on your mp3 player and/or stereo (and remember to turn the volumes back down when you use your stereo or mp3 player without the transmitter or else risk blowing out your eardrums). There was some static noise when handling the unit initially although I found this went away quickly as the static charge (coming from the user) dispersed.

The sound quality amazes mevery near CD quality soundand I was very pleased there was no interferencein the 40 minutes driving, I never had to switch channels. As long as it holds up, I don't plan on switching transmitters anytime soon either. The Coby-745 rocks.

Right off, the price. If I paid double or even triple and it performed as it does, I would have been satisfied. FM transmitters by definition are supposed to be the last resort for sending audio through car speakers from a portable device, given their many potential downfalls. But I've used the Coby CA-745 daily for over two months now and I couldn't be happier. I even made sure to wait this long before posting a review, in case it worked well but broke quickly.

A few major points to consider regarding this model: first, this is not an iPod-charging device. For me, that was OK. Everything I plug my iPod into at home charges it, so I was purposely looking for a transmitter that would fit the iPod's 3.5mm headphone jack.

Second, it allows for selection among the full FM frequency band including the almost-never-taken 87.9. I set it there on Day 1 and never changed it. But it's nice to know that I am not limited to four preset tunings if I need to change it.

Third, it is designed thoughtfully. I didn't want a battery-powered transmitter, but my lighter jack is situated in a recessed part of my lower dashboard, so the tilting display helps. The coiled connection cable keeps things neat, as does the flip-off cover that exposes a piggyback lighter jack, so you can still plug in a cellphone charger or whatever. Funny that you don't see any of these options in the high-priced FM transmitters.

But none of the above would matter if it didn't sound good. I am a critical listener, though aware that I cannot expect my car audio system to sound as good as my home system. Three aspects of this unit's audio quality stand out: its output level strength is terrific, there is actual discernable stereo separation, and no noticeable coloration in frequencies. I tried all the preset EQ settings on my iPod with this and found that it sounded best flat, no EQ at all. To me, that alone spoke volumes about the quality of its transmitted stereo signal.

Background noise is virtually non-existent and I never get those bursts of static anymore. I can make out a very slight constant high-pitched whine, which I know is my car interfering with the signal (having the wipers on causes the whine to modulate some), but note this is just one component of an overall VERY LOW LEVEL background noise floor. Unless you crank it up between songs or during very light musical passages, you're not going to hear any artifacts produced by this unit. And for you purists out there try cranking up your built-in car CD player when a song is paused with factory units especially, you may be surprised by how much low-level garbage is percolating back there that you'd never really notice.

My Ford Taurus was tricky for getting an iPod to play through it. The factory audio system is configured in such a way that adding an audio input would have been expensive and complex to install. The in-dash cassette goes into auto-forward when trying to use a cassette adapter, so I'm really stuck with the FM transmitter method. My antenna is a standard fixed-pole antenna at the back of the car, and the cheap no-name FM transmitter I was using before this could only be placed in certain locations to work at all, and even then produced constant light static that was annoyingly audible, plus regular bursts of loud jarring static. Yet I put up with that for a long time since I knew from researching online that no matter what model or price, there was nothing that was consistently lauded as working great, and every unit seemed to have the ability to work as poorly as the piece of junk I already had.

So again, the price. There are no guarantees, but a lot of people are having good luck with this unit. If your situation is like mine, the price alone should make it worth the gamble.

I have gone through four of these types of FM Transmitters. One was powered by the iPod. I don't recommend that type as it sucks your battery dry quickly. The one I am replacing this time worked alright, but was bulky and finally stopped working correctly. I was happy when I plugged this one in and effortlessly synced FM stations and got CD quality sound. Another nice feature is that you don't have to switch it on. When it is plugged in it is live when the radio is tuned to that station and does not affect any other stations if you are listening or scanning other stations. The only thing I wish someone would add is a bit of amplification. Every transmitter I've used requires you to turn your iPod volume up almost all the way and then you still have to turn your stereo volume up much higher than normal. Obviously, if you forget to adjust both volumes down before using either next time, you will blast your eardrums or speakers.

When I first bought the CA-745, I thought it was a great buy: it worked well. After about nine days or so, it started making a loud cracking sound (loud static) whenever the end of the stereo connector moved. This quickly became unbearable to me because it happened every time I selected a song or changed the volume, etc. I had to return it for a refund. If Coby can get the wiring quality taken care of, they will have an unbeatable value on the CA-745.

This is my third FM transmitter in about as many years. I owned the Belkin and the iRiver prior to this one. I use it with an iPod during my commute, about 90 minutes total, every day. I have a sedan with a rear-window FM antenna, so signal strength is critical.

The Belkin didn't have nearly enough signal strength or a flexible enough station selection, so I didn't stick with it very long. What prompted me to replace the iRiver after about two years of use was the auto-shutoff "feature" of the iRiver and the tenancy for high frequency audio to break up and distort badly when the iPod was above moderate volumes. The auto-shutoff powers down the transmitter when it thinks there's no music. What really happens is when the music levels are low or between tracks, the thing powers down letting high-volume static come crashing through the speakers at until the music level picks up to the point where it thinks there's music again (or until I can kill the radio's volume). Annoying to say the least. It's signal strength was better than the Belkin, but I would still get interference periodically.

The Coby is always-on (when the car is on) so there was an immediate and welcome relief. That alone makes it a winner in my book. But when I spent time playing with the iPod and radio levels, I noticed that the Coby didn't distort the high frequencies, no more playing with levels. Cool! Then after listening to a couple of tracks it was obvious that the Coby has much better low end response compared to the other two I owned. The bass was more defined (not boomy) and the punch that I didn't even notice was missing, was back. What a huge improvement! Much more life-like. Not over-pronounced, just full, all the way to the bottom. To boot, I don't hear any interference at all during my Chicago area commute, signal strength is very good. Combine that with a price that is half that of the others, there's no way you can lose with this unit.

If you're considering an FM transmitter solution for your in-car MP3 player listening, give the Coby your full consideration. I know you won't be disappointed.

Auto Meter BUSPRO-600s Multi Battery Charging Station (110Vac)

Auto Meter BUSPRO-600s Multi Battery Charging StationI have used the bus pro 600 for a while and previously used other different regenerators, this is the only one that met my expectations, my main equipment at the battery shop

Thsi is an excellent product. One of the best that I have purchased. The only problem is that it takes too long to ship from the 'real' supplier Auto Meter. Something should be done about this as Amazon would lose some commissions I suspect. Due to the urgency of my needs, I recently had to cancel one that I ordered.

The Gomadic Brand will do the intended job, but the cord is too short to allow the Garmin GPS to stay in one position, on the windshield. It pulls the unit down. The tip exchange is straight, and should be a 90 degree angle, which would help compensate for the short cord. A message also comes up saying, this is not supported, but will over ride.

Nyko iBoost Battery Pack for iPod

Nyko iBoost Battery Pack for iPod
  • Up to 16 hours extra play time
  • High quality lithium-ion battery cells
  • Charge both the iBoost and the iPod, and transfer files, all at thesame time
  • Fits 20GB and 40GB iPods, and their Docks
  • Charges via AC adaptor supplied with iPod; or via computer's USB orFireWire port

I shopped around for a long time trying to find just the right power booster for my 30 gig video ipod. The less than 3 hour video use time of the ipod wasn't making it on long business trips which I take every week. I found this item on Amazon at a much lower price than anywhere else. It has met and exceeded all my expectations. Both video and audio lasts all day now. What a great buy this item was for me.....don't hesitate....this is what you have been looking for......excellent quality, lean, light and a bundle of extra power.

This product is, in my opinion, all that anyone could ever want in an iPod external battery. When I go on long trips via airplane, I can watch video the whole way across the U.S. with this. The iBoost also allows you to never remove your iPod from it again; you can charge and synchronize your iPod without removing it from the iBoost, just drop the whole package into the iPod Dock. My iPod Video 5.0G 30GB is held snugly by the retention arms and the foam spacer pad. The foam spacer pad is removable to fit larger iPods.

The iboost package says it will add 7 hours for video. Mine added 4.5. The instructions say it will fully charge in 4.5 hours. Mine takes around 9. I called them. They said the charge time listed is not valid. Hmmm. They said the video time will vary. I ran the video as a test, and did not touch the ipod except to start the movie again. I should have the maximum time, shouldn't I? their answer is that times will vary. Hmmm.

I may return mine. Not sure. It is nice in that is fits well (on my 5G), is compact and rechargable. BUT keep in mind my figures above.

Want Nyko iBoost Battery Pack for iPod Discount?

I often go on long trips and use my iPod not only for music but for watching movies. Before buying the iBoost I would always have to cut my viewing time short for fear of draining out my battery. Now with the iBoost, I can watch several movies and my iPod battery is still fully charged. The iBoost has allowed my to enjoy my iPod more than I already did. I recommend it for anyone who uses their iPod for watching movies/music videos. You'll appreciate the extra hours of viewing time you will gain using the iBoost.

I got two of these for my 80 GB iPod video. I can charge the iBoost and sync my iPod at the same time or charge the iBoost independently. I'm pretty sure that I don't get the full 16 hours of extra audio and the 7 hours of advertised video, but I come pretty close to tripling the amount of iPodding that I can do between recharges which is perfect for vacations.

Nyko did an excellent job designing the device. You can use your iPod until until the battery is almost dead, then slide it into the iBoost. The iBoost adds a little bit to the size of the iPod when connected, but not so much so that it doesn't fit in my pocket. It does keep it from fitting in my armband, however. It adds just under an inch below the iPod where the battery is housed. Less than a quarter inch is added in thickness as well. So the statement on the packaging "So slim, so light. You won't know it's there" isn't exactly true; nevertheless, it is a good device.

It will not fit will for the smaller width iPods, but an attachment is included so that the thinner iPods (same width, but thinner) will fit well. As I have only been using the iBoost for a short period of time, I cannot speak to how well the lithium ion battery ages and continues to hold a charge.

Nevertheless, for the price and the utility of the device, I would strongly recommend anybody who ever has had to stop using his/her iPod because the battery died get one of these.

Instapark® NEW All Black 130W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 130 watt

Instapark® NEW All Black 130W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 130 wattNOTICE: THIS IS NOT THE SAME PRODUCT I PURCHASED. THIS REVIEW BELONGS TO THE WHITE PANEL

Panel was received and appears to be as promised. My biggest concern is lifespan/warranty. Is it worth saving $60 (delivered price)with an unknown warranty, or better to spend the extra money on a good Kyocera panel with a 20 year warranty? Stay tuned updates will follow in 6 months or if the panel fails.

Update Instapark raised their price since my purchase, and the price on Kyocera panels has come down. Considering there is no warranty information provided from Instapark (supposedly there is a two year warranty but how do you return and how comprehensive is it?), and the lack of history of the company, I cannot recommend this product. This is true especially since you can buy a known brand, made in the US, with an extensive warranty and good service record for almost the same price.

The product itself appears to be operating just fine so far, but where is the support if you need it?

Update after 6 mos: The unit performed well over the summer. No signs of damage from the salt water. So I upgraded my rating to 4 stars. However, doing it over again I still would by a Kyocera panel for the piece of mind that a good warranty would give me and to buy a comparably priced American product.

Installed 4 130 watt panels.

No instructions.

No Warrentee.

Pkging was pretty good, lots of protection inside box.

Frame is well made.

Glass seems of heavy weight.

J-Box seems well made, #12 AWG wire with MC4 connectors, good construction, nice seal.

Silicon on back in every nook and cranny.

Will see how long they last, they do feel like good quality panels.

Panel operates as discribed on label on back of panel.

Hope this helps...

I have bought a half dozen of these panels over the past eight months. The quality seems to be as good as most other panels I have looked at and the price is fair. What impressed me was how well they work. They easily put out the rated power on sunny days and even on cloudy days they still work reasonably well. I am using them as an off grid backup power supply. I want to end this project with a total of twelve panels before the end of the year. The only thing that concerned me was the lack any mention of a warranty. Still, I would recommend these panels. They are working great for me.

I added this panel to my existing system which consists of a hydro-turbine(makes the majority of our power 24 hrs a day, 364 days a year -one down for a rebuild), generators, 6 KW Trace, & everything else.

So far after a handful of days of use, I am relatively pleased. Around the 46th parallel in the full sun of early September, I'm getting as much as 85 watts/panel before a miniscule amount of line loss.

As I've stated in their feedback, these guys seem to have great customer service. Before the product arrived I had a concern that they addressed almost immediately.

Want Instapark® NEW All Black 130W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel, 130 watt Discount?

I ordered three of these Instapark 130 Watt panels to supply power to a trailer because 120 VAC is only available using a generator. So far, I have only connected one panel to a SunSaver solar controller just to keep the (old crummy 12V) trailer battery charged. I will wait until warmer weather to connect the other two panels and get two new 6V deep cycle batteries and a true-sine inverter at that time. I have tested all three panels and the two I haven't used yet tested okay on my volt meter, so I think they are okay. According to my solar controller readout, I was cranking over 9 amps out of the one panel at a little over 14 volts. I was getting the full 130 Watts out of this panel on a sunny day! That's great! I read about another brand of panel rated at 100 W that people were only able to get about 80 W out of. I am very pleased that this panel, rated at 130 W, was able to produce the full 130 W at a voltage that could charge the battery and/or run 12V equipment. I think these panels are excellent values and would definitely buy more from Instapark.

  • Nice Green Colored Chargers and Cable.
  • The flat cable has more copper, which makes for better charging

I really like the flat, non-tangling USB cable included with the two adapters. During a recent power failure here, I used the car adapter and cable to recharge 2 iPads, and this handled that fine. I've used the wall adapter a few times; just wish it had 2 USB ports instead of one. But at this price, one can't have everything...

The cable alone is worth the cost. I hope to find micro-mini flat USB cables in the near future that will work as well.

The flat sync cable is nice so you dont get the tangled wire mess but the two chargers i thought look and feel cheap. also all 3 peices are a different shade of green. Not that its a big deal they still work but just something i noticed. Also the charger does not lock into your ipod/iphone/ipad so if you pick it up while its charging the cable falls out. Also the picture description shows a stylis and something else but these two items do not come with it. So either the picture is off or i got ripped off.

Camco 40480 RV Roof Vent Kit

Camco 40480 RV Roof Vent Kit
  • Replaces Ventline, Jensen and Elixir vents
  • Seamless, one piece frame
  • Leak resistant and weather tight
  • Built-in screen allows air through while keeping insects out
  • UV resistant translucent lid

I bought one of these in a local RV shop to replace an old cracked leaky vent in a 1990 Tioga Montara 21ft Class C motorhome. The new one fit perfectly. The sealing flange was a slightly larger diameter than the old one so it forced me to do the job right and scrape off all of the extra old goo that someone had put around the edges (that does not work in order for the sealant to work it must be between the surfaces being sealed. Putting extra goo around the edges does nothing because once the rig flexes a little it peels back and the water runs right under it).

Replacing the old crappy vent with this new one has brought a feeling of new life to my RV's kitchen.

The old (stock) vent had a plastic crank handle. This one is metal. The crank action in the old vent caught and bounced when I closed it. The action in this one is smooth. It's not grade A materials, being made in China and being inexpensive but it is a good value. If I have to replace it again 10 years from now, I will still consider it money well spent.

As I said, I bought it at a local RV shop but I liked it enough that I am buying two more of them to replace the other two vents in my RV roof, which are NOT currently leaking. It made that much of an improvement to my rig. It's significantly cheaper here. Thanks, Amazon.

Minus one star because the sharp edge of the sealing flange sliced my finger open during installation. I'll be more careful with the other two.

Unit is built well, but you must order the install kit and sealing putty that is recommended with item. All thats included is just the vent. Directions were easy to follow and includes a template of how large of a hole to cut in the roof. I would buy again if I needed another one.

I bought a roof vent kit before and it came with a MUCH deeper garnish. This vent will only fit a roof thickness of up to 2-1/4". No mention of this vital statistic in the product description! Now I have to go to the expense and trouble of returning this item :(

These walkie talkies were purchased for my 8 year old son for his birthday. They are replacing an exact set he had previously but misplaced. They really do work great. I can't speak to the mile range because he just uses them here around the house and in the yard but they work excellently for that.

The sound is clear and pretty much static free. They use 3 AAA batteries, which were included. I know from the other set we had that the battery life on these is pretty impressive.

If you are considering buying some toy walkie talkies for a child, I would avoid those. They are incredibly staticky and really no fun for kids at all due to the static and crappy reception. Spend the 5 more bucks and get these instead!

For the adults, I think these would be great to use while shopping or doing outdoor activities.

These are AWSOME in all aspects except the fact that they chew thru batteries within 5-15 minutes of being turned on! The range is great! The clarity on nearly all channels is as well, great! The only problem I have is I cannot afford to use them as it gets incredibly expensive changing six batteries, (3 per unit) every 10 min... I believe this is a manufacture defect, but so far have not had any luck getting a response from the seller. Humm...

These are very handy devices, and I especially like that I can use standard AAA batteries in them instead of depending on the charger. With most devices of this nature, you have to recharge them using a 110 volt charger, and this takes time for the recharge and a requires a place to plug it in as well.

They promote these as having a signal that will travel for miles. That is nonsense. There is not enough wattage in any device of this type to broadcast for miles FCC would not allow it. They are good for use up to perhaps 1/2 mile at the most, which is all most people would need. If you need a longer distance, get a radio and a license, or just use your cell phone.

Power Bright VC3000W Voltage Transformer 3000 Watt Step Up/Down 110 Volt - 220 Volt

Power Bright VC3000W Voltage Transformer 3000 Watt Step Up/Down 110 Volt - 220 VoltThis thing is great. The price on many transformers should leave many wondering if they shouldn't just buy all new appliances-seeing as electric water kettles hog up 1500 watts. Microwaves-1000 watts. An XBOX 360-400 watts. Coffee grinders and refrigerators-300 watts. Flat LCD TVs-200 watts. The price of this transformer removes all those questions. It's the most powerful one I could find and only $115. This qualified for FREE SHIPPING on Amazon, which saved ME $27, but my other friends were quoted as high as $80 other places to ship similar transformers. You can't afford not to get this.

Where I am, there are at least 3 different power standards (US, UK, and the rest of Europe), but I have only US appliances. Everywhere is charging like $150 for a 1000 watt transformer, or $200 for 2000 watt. The place we moved into has only generator-powered British standard, and it trips very easily. I plugged this transformer in just fine when many of my suite mates were having problems with theirs tripping the power. This one did not trip.

There is also no noise. My roommate got a free military transformer though some connections, who knows how old it is? We put it in the corner under thick blankets and it still makes a loud buzzing. With this one, you only hear it for 1 second when you first turn it on, and it is completely silent even under full load. Disclaimer: DO NOT pack insulation or anything like blankets around any transformersJust erring on side of fire and electrical safety. Honestly, this thing is not producing any amount of heat that I can tell.

It has a power selector on the back to switch input from 110V, 200V, 220V, and 240V. Comes with 3 fuses, one in the unit and 2 replacements. Has 2 outputs-one US and one universal.

It has a heavy duty US-style power plug with a ground/earth pin, and comes with a solid-feeling Europe-style plug adapter with grounding/earthing side-leads, but I am using it plugged into a British style "surge protecting" plug adapter with grounding/earthing. I hear transformers aren't meant to be used with surge protectionwhether it's plugging into or being plugged into I don't know. If you need a transformer you need to research this.

This was definitely a lucky first-find and after seeing all the hassles my peers have had with their converters, I'm already thinking of getting another. If they found a good one, they had to pay way more than $115, and many paid more for boxes that shorted after a week. What is it then? Just a heavy door stop.

Also, don't try to replace the fuse with the unit plugged into an active outlet, even if the switch on the unit is OFF. I haven't blown any yet, but I just wanted to check. Anyway, don't ask-let's just say I'm bleedin' out the ears and I may potentially be cured of my crippling depression. Fine, yeah I shocked myself. It didn't feel great. So what? Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?

UPDATE!!-- Since writing this I left my camp and sold this converter. I came back and bought another one. The new one I received produced a noticeable smell from manufacturing but NOT the smell of frying/shorting/stressed electrical equipment I'm somewhat familiar with (unrelated). It slowly went away and was completely unnoticeable after about 2 or 3 weeks. The smell was like heated crayons or something-probably from the enamel finish on the box. I have been using this converter to push mostly a VERY hungry hot water kettle. It was also very expensive and the kettle is still going strong. I also use a big burr-mill style coffee grinder that uses much more power than the spinning blade type. I also keep a very large air purifier running at various speeds all the time. The converter handles all 3 very demanding appliances brilliantly.

We use this to run a treadmill we bought in Europe. With other transformers of comparible size, we found our circuit breaker would shut down when we energized the transformer. But this one has no such issue. There seems to be no impact at all on our electrical system when we energize this. And the treadmill works great.

Have been using this over in the UK now for 6 months with my gaming system, monitor, phones, routers and 2 seperate 5.1 surround sound speaker systems plugged in. Never had a fuse blow out, no flickers in power. Perfect to date!

Bought this machine from Amazon and it worked 3 times and then died. Used a powerful blender, Vita Mix, and was excited that it made perfect smoothies, however; very short lived! After making 3 smoothies in 3 days, the machine just died on me. Checked the fuse and it's alright but changed it anyway just to make sure. Still not working! Very frustrated. Tried a 200w transformer and thank God, the Vita Mix is sluggishly whirring but this tells me that my blender works and not the 3000w transformer. Googled PowerBright and their website is down. Where do you contact the manufacturer for a replacement. It's driving me bananas! Problem is it was bought 3 months from US and we are now in the Middle East.... and this thing is very heavy for shipping. Is it worth is to spend more to ship it that what the product is worth.

I've been using my 3kW-rated Power Bright transformer to power my UK-spec hi-fi system in Canada continually for four years now without any problems at all. It competently supplies my amplifier, CD-player, turntable and active sub-woofer without any surges, trips, noise or excess heat whatsoever. The product looks and feels reassuringly rugged and industrial, but it's otherwise inconspicuous in my living room in all other aspects besides appearance. Note that it converts mains voltage but not frequency, so check that your equipment is happy with AC 50-60Hz.

It's an OK charger. Works fine. However the quality is somewhat lacking. The connector where the power cord plugs in is very flimsy.

We needed this charger for the batteries we purchased. It was a good value. It charges the batteries and the batteries hold a charge for a long time.

No bells and whistles. Charges fast and completely. No complaints. Traveled all over the place with it. Lightweight, small. Carried all over Iraq for a year. Durable.

We have a few major problems with this unit, so I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

* Very poor build quality this broke on me day two from a 24 inch fall from my desk.

* Very slow charging It will take around 12 hours to charge a regular set of batteries

* Batteries included with this via amazon don't work with most flashlights

Hi. I thought a video of this interesting 12 volt splitter was the only way to review the product. I hope it helps you with your shopping.

This isn't a very complicated device so this review will be brief.

It effectively splits a 12v connection into two functional ones, each with a nice handy cap on it. Don't underestimate the usefulness of those two caps, as a stray bit of metal or anything conductive could blow the fuse on this.

Having mentioned the fuse, let me point out that not all splitters are manufactured with a fuse built into them. Without a fuse on the splitter itself a stray bit of metal or conductive material will cause the fuse in your car's electrical box to blow. This adds a little extra security as likely the fuse on the splitter is of a lower rating than that in your electrical box: so it blows first.

An earlier review mentioned electrical interference which made me wary about this product at first. However upon examination, I'm not exactly clear where such interference could be coming from. The splitter is incredibly simple with no real electrical processing being done to the power going through it. It's a fuse gated adapter with two connectors on it. As I have a zune controller and in line adapter running off one of the connectors on this, I was afraid that I would experience some hum or something similar to that mentioned in an earlier review. No issues here.

The wiring doesn't seem to be of high quality, but since I paid so little for it and don't plan on using it for heavy duty applications, that isn't something I will deduct for. The wiring is adequate and likely will not break unless I pull hard on it or abuse it.

Very nice item, handy and safe. It is fused and saves digging under the dash for auto fuses when you overload it -and ends cover to prevent shorts and keep dust out when not in use. I love it and good value for money.

The Roadpro 12V, 2 Outlet Platinum Series Fused Cigarette Lighter Adapter is made. Each outlet socket comes with a plastic cover to prevent objects from an accidental producing a shot circuit. The wiring to each socket uses standard 16awg wire; which is adacquit for most devices using this connection. The built in fuse is a MUST. Do not purchase one without it. If you exceed the maximum allowed current, the fuse in the plug should "blow", not the car fuse. The fuse in the Roadpro in much easier to replace than the one in the car.

Note of caution: Make sure that the center pin, on the male plug, will spring in & out as you compress it, with your finger. A "good" connection will not be made unless this is true. If it doesn't, rotate the tightening nut first CCW [loosing it] and then CW [tightening it] and it should free itself. If not, repeat a couple of times. The nut should be finger tight.

This is a passive connection. NO hum or electrical interference can result from using it. If you hear noise or buzzing sounds, they are produced by the device you have plugged into it, NOT the "pig-tail." Cell phone chargers are notorious noise producers as are some other devices as well.

I purchase two and am planning to purchase two additional ones. Great product!

The single plug that goes into your cigarette lighter is really short and can be a problem for some car models. I have a Buick and the dual portion of the plug is too heavy for the single portion to support so it pulls it out of the cigarette lighter unless I find a way to support the weight. Other than this complaint the product works as stated.
