I bought this solar charger last weekend. It did not take too much time to setup, however it did take quite long (about 4 hours) to get fully charged. Then, I used this charger to charge my cell phone without any difficulty. This made me feel good because it was the first time that I used green energy directly. Over all, it is well designed and easy to use. The case can be more slim and some switches can be combined, a little bit confusing though.

This item is designed very well. It appears to be very durable and well put together. Unfortunately the one I ordered was defective and would not take a charge from either solar or AC power. It appears that not all of them are like this, so its a bit of a gamble when you order. Fortunately Amazon allowed me to return the item without any trouble and even paid the postage.

Unfortunately all I had to work with is the one unit that I received so I have given it two stars. Sure it didn't work, but it was well designed and the price is great. If I receive a working unit I'll update my star rating appropriately.

Would not take a charge after 1 year of minimal use. Think I try one that has user replaceable batteries. I suspect the batteries have failed on this unit.

As another reviewer had said, the design was great: it's about the same size and weight as a Nintendo DS Lite (looks similar to it too!), the 2 USB ports were great, and it came with both an AC adaptor for charging indoors and a DC adaptor for charging in the car. The inclusion of 5 nicely-made output adaptors (the description shows 4, but I also got a 5th one that worked with my daughter's iPod Touch) for charging different devices was very thoughtful. Another thoughtful touch was the built-in white LED flashlight. It was surprisingly bright, given it was just an LED peeking from a hole in the case.

I bought this to keep on my car dashboard to charge. Out of the box, the device didn't show any indication of charging from the solar panels (the Light1 LED was supposed to light up and indicate charge levels --red for low, orange/yellow for half, and green for full charge); Light1 was unlit. So I decided to charge it to 50% charge (the LED glowed golden yellow) with the included AC adaptor for about 2 hours. Exposed to indirect sunlight (about 1 foot away from a window), the Light1 indicator glowed gold still, so I thought maybe the battery needed to be "primed" to accept charging from the solar panels.

I used the EL2558 to power my USB fan (Connectland USB Desk Fan USB Powered with On/Off Switch Black Color) while I was working on the car (the unit was left open so the solar panels can continue to charge the battery). The first thing I noticed was that the battery got really hot while it was discharging. The unit ran the USB fan for about 1.5 hours (the Wagan's plastic case withstood the heat from the hot battery okay) until the Light1 indicator turned red and my USB fan slowed down to where it wasn't cooling anymore.

From then on, I kept the unit on the dashboard of my car, hoping that the red Light1 light would turn to at least orange. Here we are almost 3 weeks later, and the poor unit I got still has Light1 = red.

Before packing it, I thought I'd charge the battery again using the AC adaptor, and that part still worked, so as a USB battery, it works great, but I bought it for its solar-charging capability, plus I can get a USB battery for half the price.

UPDATE (07/20/2010): While shopping for a replacement for this product, I came across Sc-2800 Solar/usb Nimh Battery Charger (2800 Mah) which appears to be the same product, only better. With a price tag that's 50% of this product's, and a non-skid skin to boot (great for the dashboard!), I wish I could've seen it earlier. But alas, it looks like its performance matches the EL2558's (dismal!) so I think I'll just reuse my rechargable AA batteries with the 4 Battery Solar Charger and the (Portable AA Battery Powered Emergency Charger with Flashlight Black For Anything Powered Via USB to power my USB fan.

I bought an RV several years ago with this brand of converter in it. I was so impressed with the charge wizard, I recomend Progressive Dynamics to everyone I know with an RV. I bought a new fifth wheel, and the first thing I did, was to change out the converter that came with the RV with a Progressive Dynamics. I bought this one for my son for Christmas. While camping with him, he was having trouble charging his batteries with the generator. The Charge Wizard monitors and adjust the charging for your batteries. If you leave it plugged in during storage it will maintain the batteries, for a longer battery life.

The item works well and has improved my battery power as it cycles to 14.4V while charging my batteries. The company is very helpful when you call them. E-mail does not work as well.

Product works and functions like it should.... the product came loose with out the box or the Remote Display that plugs into the Converter.. The serial number was scratched off the product but a note to and from the manufacturer said they would cover warranty.... An email to the supplier got the Remote Display mailed to me..

I'm more than pleased with the Converter/Charger and it does what its designed to do...

Zipper bag to hold accessories is brilliant. Everything worked well when I got it. It has plenty of power and stays charged for months at a time.

However, after owning it for about a year, and keeping it in the house it has started to fall apart. The air hose is weather checked and will be cracked through soon. The battery clips are plastic with metal inserts. While the clip was attached to a battery, it broke. Unit is nearly useless until I get a new set of clip leads. This unit is better than many models sold at auto parts stores, but it still falls short of a durable, reliable item.

I already own the AC version of this Battery Minder, and I use it to keep my car batteries topped off, as well as some deep cycle batteries that I own. The Battery Minder products are very high quality, and this one is no exception. I currently have this hooked up to my 15 watt solar panel, and use it to keep my deep cycle battery topped off. It has worked flawlessly since owning it (30 days now), and keeps the battery on float charge once it is full. If comes with "bullet style terminals" on the unit, but you can easily remove them and add any kind of connection that you want. I personally use and recommend "Power pole" Connectors. They are sexless terminals that can be used for Many different types of DC electrical connections. This charge also comes with a battery temperature sensor monitor to help it better adjust the amount of power it sends to your battery. This particular model will accommodate up to 180watts of power, which translates into 15amps of power to your batteries. One last thing, if you want to get really cleaver, you can plug this unit into a 120volt AC wall outlet, and then use this to charge your batteries from the wall. To do this, simply find an old laptop computer Power Supply cord (previously used to charge your laptop from an AC wall outlet) and modify it to plug into the Battery Minder charger. Every laptop Power Supply is designed to take 120volt of AC from your wall outlet, and convert them into 12volts DC in order to charge the internal battery inside your computer. There is a little black "box" or "brick" that is incorporated with these Power Supply cords, and this is precisely what does the AC to DC conversion. I used it to create back-up for my basement sump pumps (3 pumps with 30Amps total power). Connected with 3 110 Ah Farm and fleet deep cycle batteries. Works perfectly and able to handle full load for significant amount of time. Consider connecting basement freezers and refrigerators to it as well and probably servers. Why to pay for useless 12 V backup pumps (they handle max 2000gal/h each), when you can connect your regular pumps through this charger/converter.

I've been using this panel for about a month now and it's been great overall. It's been through high winds, thunder storms, soaking rain and just about everything else with no major problems. The only problem I've had is the corners rolling up a little from it taking a few short falls. Repairing them was a simple as bending the back with my hands.

I use this panel primarily to run small 12 volt fans and charge up small batteries.....for that purpose it's a great panel. If you need this panel to charge your car sized battery, multiple panels or a single larger one will be necessary. The panel comes with around 22 inches of cable, so you will need to provide additional cable if your running the power into your house or garage. I found no problem just hooking up some alligator clips, since I Primarily use the panel for outdoors.

I picked this panel because of it's small size,flexibility of 30 degrees, price and light 11 ounce weight. It can be mounted to your backpack or to a tree for camping and other outdoor uses. It come with 4 metal grommets and some adhesive backed Velcro for permanent or temporary mounting to a roof of some other type of structure. I myself just loosely mount it on my deck, bu propping it against a flower pot (explains why mine got beat up a little....totally my fault). The panel puts out around 20 volts open circuit at around 350-400 milliamps. This is right in line with what a new 6 watt panel should put out. After a month of use, I am still getting similar readings from the panel.

As for charging times, that will depend on what you are using the panel with. I use mine with small jump starter battery packs up to 10 amp hours. It has no problem charging them in about a day of good sunlight. I will note that my power packs come with regulators built in, so no charge controller was necessary. If you are charging a 12 volt battery directly, you will need a charge controller (A $20 device). I also like to run a small 12 volt auto fan from the panel. The fan is rated for 7 watts, but the panel is close enough to run the fan at nearly full power in good sunlight.

One thing about this panel is that it won't be as long lasting as a standard fixed frame and glass panel. It's made out of a thin aluminum backing, laminated plastic front cover and is flexible. The expected life of it if left out 24/7 is 3 years. Some people have gotten 10 years out of similar panels, but compared to the fixed frames, which last 25 years this one is not as durable. I still like this panel for its light weight and small price. I would definitely recommend this to someone who needs solar for hiking or other outdoors stuff.

I had one of these professionally installed in my boat 4 years ago.

Just this weekend, I replaced it for the 4th time (total of 5 inverters)

The 110volt pass-through, which was one of the features that attracted me to this product keeps failing leaving me with no 110 volt service. Strangely enough, the inverter portion still worked.

While all but one of these replacements was provided under warranty, there was still expense involved in installing the replacements and loss of products that were stored in the refrigerator which stopped working when the inverter died, even when plugged into shore power.

I evaluated the prospects of changing to a different product, but the cost involved in a) buying the replacement, and b) having it installed, as the boat would have to be rewired to support a different product caused me to stay suffering with this one. I have 100% expectations that I will continue to have to replace this unit.

When it works, it works fine, but you never know when it is going to fail.

The tech support at Xantrex stinks. I have called and emailed many times asking for info about WHY this unit keeps failing, never got a response. On a positive note, they never gave me a hard time about replacing it, which leads me to believe that they KNOW what is wrong with it, and don't want that to get out.

Installed this product in my travel trailer and it runs everything I expected. Microwave, coffee maker, TV, ect. and it does it with two 6 volt batteries. Comes with a hard wired remote so you can turn it on and off without going directly to the unit, and monitor battery voltage and unit output.

The good: The battery is small and light. The less then optimal: The battery pack does not provide much extra power. Reviews for this product (on Amazon and elsewhere) report it provides about 70-75% additional battery life. In 2 uses of this with my iPhone 4S, it only provided 15%-20% increase in battery power. The 15% was after the battery pack had sat about a week after being charged. The 20% was after the battery pack had been just removed from the charger and said it was fully charged. While I like Griffin products and generally find them to be of better than average quality, I think this product is a bit too expensive for the additional power it provides.

This is my third Power Duo. Love them!! First one I bought off EBay. Had the old style battery. It died within a month. This has the smaller battery. So far this one is doing great. It won't fully charge my Gen 4 Touch, but it will put it in the 70 % range. I have a RavPower RP-PB07 for a full charge. Also great item. Keeps my Touch from flashing the 20% warning constantly.Thank you Apple :( I know my battery is almost dead!! Where I live they have alot of these speed cameras and this product is great! It works exactly as advertised and beeps when I'm near one of them. I saw a demo video on YouTube and watched it. Last week I got one of those pesty speed camera tickets and know I was not driving as fast as indicated. Since the companies that contract to operate these cameras get a fee from each ticket that's issued, I'm convinced that they determine when and how the pictures are taken. I watched a video on the GPS Angel website and read a couple of positive reviews on amazon.com and knew I had to have one. Well, I tried it yesterday and it works just like the video says it will and this is a great product so far. I ordered the battery for the convenience of not having any hanging cords and will keep the power cord for times when the battery runs down. There are a lot of red light and speed cameras in my area and this is going to be a great investment for me.

I also have the GPS Angel Model # K1 which I purchased for my daughter. This V4 device is a great deal amd comes with a battery so no cords to plug into the cigarette lighter. I was able to enter in my own address for a new camera that was just installed in my neighborhood. Now my GPS Angel warns me well before I get to the intersection. I am sure this device has already saved me a ticket or two!

I want to start by saying this product works just like it is suppose to. You turn it on and it begins it cycle to acquire a signal for tracking you and Its seems to track you with accuracy, and even the speed control signal works as it should. The package in this listing includes a variety of connects for the battery terminals. You can switch out the connects so that you can use this with just the terminal clamps, or, in my case, fastening the o ring connectors directly to the battery terminals for a permanent installation.

I've used this tender for over five years.

In that time, I have had it almost permanently hooked up to my tractor battery, and it has performed flawlessly the entire time.

This was designed for maintaining marine batteries, so, the waterproof feature means I can leave it outside, unprotected, on the tractor.

I wired it permanently to the battery terminals so that all I have to do is plug it in.

If I really deplete the battery on the tractor (heavy starting in cold weather and heavy use of lights on the tractor) it will take about a day or day and a half to charge it back up.

If I am just using a normal warm weather start on the tractor battery, it only takes about a half an hour, at .8 Amps, to recharge the battery.

The unit is fairly compact, and, even with long cords, tucks up neatly under the tractor seat.

left my key on, my honda's battery is only 1 year old, it was almost dead, but it barely started, drove it around for about am hour running here and there. Then I hooked this thing up, set it to 6 amps (turtle?) and it said it would go to float charge after it was charged. After about 2 or 3 hours, I went to the garage and it smelled like battery acid, and I could here the battery boiling. Put the fluke meter on it ... 16.1 volts!!! I did some research, and the max equalizing charge voltage should be is 15.5v No way, its going back.

One hour into the first use sparks flew and the unit was smoked. Returned the XC10 and now I'm trying the XC6.

I didn't buy it through Amazon, but that really doesn't matter.

This charger in my opinion, and by at least one other account is dangerous at best.

It doesn't know when to stop charging, and if it wasn't for another review so I knew what to look for, would have fried my battery.

Not to mention after a 45 min test on a battery that was freshly charged by a different charger smelled like it was ready to fry itself.

This is why Amazon should have a negative star rating, one star is being way to gracious.

Manufacturer should try putting words instead of pictures, as well as some sort of concise instructions on unit. Whenever I use it, I have to go on internet and find instructions.
