Whistler XTR-440 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built in Battery Charger with Blue Text

Whistler XTR-440 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built in Battery Charger with Blue Text Display
  • Battery-powered radar/laser detector provides up to 15 hours operation on a single charge (power cord and rechargeable batteries provided)
  • Provides 360-degree alerts for selectable radar and laser signals, POP mode alerts, and Safety Warning System alerts
  • Blue backlit text display provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation
  • VG-2 cloaking technology makes you invisible to radar detector detectors; 3 City Modes and Highway Mode for reducing false alerts; dim/dark mode
  • One-year warranty

I just received the Whistler XTR 440 and I am impressed at what you get for the money. The unit itself is easy to operate, and full of features found in much higher priced detectors. Visual alerts are conveyed by a blue-backlit LCD text display whose backlighting is adjustable to a variety of configurations. For example, it can be set to appear briefly during alerts and mode changes and remain off the rest of the time to save battery power. The Whistler XTR-440 runs on three AA rechargeable Ni-MH (nickel metal-hybride) batteries. The batteries (which are included) must be charged for about six hours before you use the unit the first time, and the only way to charge them is with the power cord that's included. I suggest buying an ac-dc adapter so you can charge the unit from an electrical outlet indoors instead of leaving it plugged into the car(cigarette lighter plug) any time it needs a charge. It has an auto shut-off feature which kills the power after a user-adjustable delay, so you won't come back to the car and find the detector down for the count. I'm not getting a lot of "false" alarms either, so far I'm impressed. The XTR-440 offers two filter modes to limit false alarms. These progressively increase its resistance to common sources of falses, particularly the poorly shielded local oscillators of older Cobra radar detectors, which seem to be everywhere. I run my 440 on Filter 1 default and with X band off, since New Jersey and Ohio are the only states where X-band radar continues to be found in any number and I don't live there, and it makes for a quiet ride. Finally, The only real difference between this unit (XTR-440) and the higher priced XTR-540 (about $125-$150) is the 540's built in digital compass, so if you can live without that, save the money and get the XTR-440.

First off, I'll say this Radar Detector works admirably. However, for me it was a "must return" item.

The problem was that I could barely get to read the LCD screen on this device during daylight hours. The screen was impossible to read if the sun was high in the sky. The alerts and chirps work fine. It alerted me to the presence of a speed trap on multiple occasions. However, that only does you a little bit of good if you can't make out the words on the screen.

Another pet peeve is the "auto off" alarm. After 60-90 minutes, the unit turns itself off. However, the alert at this time is the loudest and most panicked alarm you'll hear from the device. It seriously scares you. I'd prefer a chirp every 10-15 seconds for a minute or two then an alert as it shuts off. Instead you get an ear piercing high pitched siren like alarm that seriously will startle you ever time.

So, I was not happy. Unit works well enough for a bargain unit under $100, however the poor screen quality made it a poor choice.

Let me start out by saying that this unit has performed admirably at detecting radar, as did my prior Whistler unit.My primary reason for purchasing this unit was the battery feature. The stated 15 hour battery life was the main selling point.Unfortunately I am not getting 1/3 of this battery life despite using the recommended power saver settings. For this reason I could not recommend this detector.Save your money and go for a battery free Whistler Radar Detector

Detection is mediocre; that's par for the course for Whistler. Don't believe reviews that say that its detection range is on par with Passport. It's not. It's adequate, but not as good as a $500 detector. You get what you pay for.

The battery life is TERRIBLE. Try 45 minutes (!) of battery life compared to 8 hours with the 540. Sad, just sad. Both detectors feature illegible displays when put against daylight. "Periscope" LEDs do nothing to alert you, although max volume is fair enough when listening to music at relatively soft level.

I have a new BMW with only one recepticle in the center console and did not want cords all around. It seems accurate, easy to use, the cord is thin so when plugged in I can easily close the console. The battery life I don't feel is very long, easy to recharge and you don't need to keep buying batteries. I'm certainly not an expert on radar detectors but have had Whistler products before, and have been satisfied. I also felt that for the price it is a great deal.

DEWALT Bare-Tool DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery)

DEWALT Bare-Tool DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench
  • Frameless motor for extended tool durability and life
  • Compact size and weight allow access into tighter areas and reduces user fatigue
  • 1,740 in-lbs of torque to perform a wide range of fastening applications
  • 0-2,400 rpm/0-2,700 ipm for faster application speed
  • Replaceable brushes for increased serviceability;Textured anti-slip comfort grip provides maximum comfort

If you are looking at the DC823 or DC825 or any other 18v impact, get this instead. Why? 25% more torque than DC825 (1330 in/lb) and 240 more inch pounds than DC823(1500in/lb). The DC820 has 1740 in/lb. With a couple simple adapters you can do anything you can with the other 2 impacts. Any "impact rated" 1/2" to 3/8" adapter will get you the functionality of the DC823. There are several adapters to go from 1/2" to 1/4" hex as well, I chose the "ASIN:B002KKBBR4 Milwaukee 48-03-4410 Shockwave 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter" and now I can do anything the DC825 can do as well. Just one bit of caution however when using it with the 1/4 hex adapter to drive screws, it is so powerful you can overdrive/break normal strength fasteners if you aren't paying attention. I also have the option of just putting a socket on and using it for automotive applications. It pulls lugs nuts off like a champ. This thing rocks, just buy it already!

This is a useful tool with more power than you'd expect for its small size.

It's about 1.5 times the size and weight of my 1/4" hex drive impact tool but seems to have 4x the power. This obviously isn't going to out drive an air powered impact wrench but has more than enough power to handle lug nuts.

The only time this tool failed to impress me was removing large diameter stainless steel fasteners with seriously galled threads (an antenna mount that had been on our office roof for 10+ years.) The DC820B could break the seized 3/8 bolts but didn't have the power to break the 1/2" bolts. It tried and tried but couldn't quite get the job done. I could feel a slight flexing of the tool in my grip that probably robbed torque from the job at hand. To be fair, I had removed more than 50 bolts before attempting to free the seized bolts and didn't take the time to replace the battery so this isn't conclusive, your results may be better.

The only real design complaint I have about this tool is the socket retention mechanism. Instead of the spring loaded ball or hog ring systems used on most 1/2 air impact tools this one has a spring loaded "detent pin retention system". On my tool this requires using a small screwdriver or similar tool to push in the retention pin every time you want to change a socket. It was a hassle at first but now I just leave a short impact extension on the tool and change sockets on the extension.

I mention this since when looking at the parts diagram it appears that Dewalt has different models that use the hog ring system. One of those might be a better choice if you change sockets frequently.

Like one or two other reviewers mine emits a slight burning smell that seems to have gotten less noticeable the longer I use the tool. I have some other Dewalt tools that had the same problem but none have died (so far at least)

This tool is small and light but has plenty of power for any 1/2" socket you would be likely to use. It works best with the lithium battery but the nicad works just fine although noticeably heavier. After using this tool hard for several days I'm not sure 5 stars is enough. The work performed per pound would have been unimaginable a few years back.

this tool is just like a 1/4 inch impact driver, its no stronger. dont buy this to remove lug nut or any heavy job. it didnt even tighten exhaust clamps enough.

A friend of mine has one of these and I had to have one. Wow! My favorite cordless DeWalt, no doubt! First use was to remove the blades from my riding mower....Zip! No holding the blades, off and back on again, so easy! Plenty of power! So, be careful! This thing has enough torgue to snap bolts! I am extremely happy and satisfied with this purchase!

My garmin had started acting flaky, i.e. it kept switching back and forth from the battery to the power from the car. I was concerned that I would have to replace the GPS unit entirely, but thought I would try to replace the connectors first. When I purchased this new cradle and hooked it up everything functioned flawlessly. As far as I can tell this unit is identical to the original equipment that came with the GPS. It was a good purchase and saved me from having to purchase a new GPS.

The socket of the unit that came with the GPS broke after 6 months.

I had to buy a replacement. Hope it will last longer that the first one.

My kids broke the first cradle that comes with the GPS unit because they tried to pull out the power cord's plug without squeezing the tabs that come with the power cord. Hence, the need for this replacement cradle which is all you need if you have happen what happened to me.

I got this to power my dew heater on my telescope and it does the job quite well. It seems to be well made and works exactly as stated. All metal case with sturdy connectors and IF weight is any indication of quality then this must be a good one. I did not want and did not get a lighter plug connection...this one is set up for direct wire connection only. For those who want to use a lighter plug they make another model like this. I've known Pyramid Car Audio products for decades (sold a lot of their car head units and their CBs and using their 15-inch subwoofers in the Reference Audio System.

In the past, they've always been great values!

Although, I've got a professional version of this Pyramid product, I decided that it was too big for where I needed one. So, I did some research and felt that this Pyramid product should be outstanding.

Once I got it, I put it one my testing bench (yes, I've got a professional one that can accurately test almost any audio product it's a modified McIntosh one) to find that it was performing very well.

Even though, I added small value polystyrene caps to the large filtering ones to smooth out any minute ripples.

I'm not sure if it needed them, but it made me feel better to have added them.

That Pyramid power supply is now powering the Music Fidelity V-LPS external MM/MC pre-preamp and the ClearAudio Concept turntable ensemble in the Reference Audio Music Room showroom at Acoustic Transducers Laboratories.

You can't go wrong with Pyramid Car Audio.

Great product at a good price. Power supplys are generaly expensive, so i was happy to find this 10 amp PS for the price I paid for it. I would have liked more amperage but didnt want to spend the money. Very good quality. I use it to power a LiPo, NiMh, NiCd DC charger for radio controled truck racing and other radio controled models.

Instapark® NEW All Black 5W High-Efficiency Mono-Crystalline Solar Panela good panel. Be Careful, no diode installed. Needs a diode, if not used it will run backard at night to discharge battery.

June 2011 I was worried initially about the packing. I purchased two of these and they arrived in light packing material. Both appeared to be in good working condition and so far I have had no problems. The previous reviewer is correct about the lack of a diode, but that is easily rectified with a trip to Radio Shack. Note this product does not come with suitable mounting equipment.

I could buy dozens of these!

I purchased this panel (as well as a controller, 12V battery, and accessory plug) for recharging electronics during extended kayak trips. I haven't taken it on a long trip so far, but did test it for several hours in my shady back yard. Even lying flat (as it will be on the kayak) in a relatively shady area, it still provided plenty of charge for my devices. The smaller dimensions make it easy to secure with bungees on deck or stow when not in use. I'll probably add a bead of silicone around all of the exposed joints for peace of mind, but otherwise the panel is exactly what I needed. It provided me with a very cost-effective way to keep everything charged out on the water.

Powerhouse PH3100Ri 3100 Watt 6.8 HP 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator With Remote St

Powerhouse PH3100Ri 3100 Watt 6.8 HP 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator With Remote StartI will be living off the grid in Arizona soon, so this generator will compliment my solar power system. I did a LOT of research before buying. As a portable inverter generator, this has the biggest engine and fuel tank in it's price and size range. For all the features this unit has, it looks like a bargain to me. A similar unit with a big name like Yamaha, Honda, or Robin-Subaru will cost at least twice as much.

Some pointers for set-up the manual says it requires a liter of oil and is shipped empty. A quart is a bit less than a liter, so I put that in and it overflowed. First time try a few tablespoons less than a quart. It is shipped with a fully charged battery, but that needs to be plugged in (no tools required). To change the oil, one is supposed to attach a drain pipe to the oil filler opening and tilt the generator. The drain pipe supplied is very cheap plastic. I will be replacing that with a brass pipe nipple from the hardware store.

If you want to power an RV with this, you will need a 30 amp adapter (or a 50 amp if you have two A/C units.)

Filling the gas tank from a 2.5 gallon plastic gas can was very messy. I had a universal electric fuel pump sitting around, so I set that up with some tubing, wiring, and a filter (and a small 12 volt battery) to pump the fuel in (with the filter screen removed). MUCH better.

Once having fueled and oiled it, it fired up promptly on electric start. Don't forget to turn the big yellow knob for fuel flow.

I have been breaking it in, running it to power my motorhome. The third night, it rained. I had covered the generator with a tarp, but it would not start until very late in the day, so the electronics may be sensitive to moisture.

If you want a cover for it, this one (small size) fits nicely and appears to be of good quality. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FF1WNA/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details

A word to the wise, when storing it, remove all the fuel from the tank and run the generator until it dies to empty the carburetor. Old gas will varnish the carburetor, prevent it from running, and void the warranty.

BTW, the shipping packaging was heavy duty, top notch. This thing is a bit heavy and large for one person to pick up. Have someone there when it will be delivered to help get it off the delivery truck.

I will update this if there is anything of interest.

I have had the generator now 2 years. My brother and I got it at the same time. Mine locked up on me when it had 6tenths of an hr on it. I called the warranty department and it was replaced with a USED one with 20 hrs on it. Not to big of a deal but I thought I should have gotten a new one. So I went to the spring race in Bristol 2011. I have a 13.5btu AC unit on my camper found out it would pop the breaker every time it kicked on. So for the fall race 2011 I put a heavy duty capacitor on the AC unit that fixed that problem. So at the fall race after the first tank of fuel the generator would not start.good thing I had nice people staying next to us the let us hook up to them. Took it in to have it fixed it took Tom Raper RV 2 months to fix it. Went camping and it worked fine. That brings me to today. We had a big wind storm yesterday and we lost power. The generator was very hard to start like at the race. I was able to get it started but not very reliable. My brothers has leaked oil from day one..... So I kind of feel bad because I talked him into getting it. So bottom line should have spent the money and got a Honda.......

Downside is that it is pretty heavy and wheels are small. I plan to buy and replace the wheels. That is why I gave it a four instead of five stars.

I bought this generator in the wake of hurricane Sandy. I live in central NJ and have been without power for about a week. This generator has performed flawlessly thus far. I am very pleased with it and I would recommend it to anyone. It doesn't cost as much as a Honda, is more quiet, and the 3100 has the best fuel economy of the other Powerhouse generators. The remote start is a nice feature, but I do not use it. In short, if you're looking for a less expensive, but reliable generator, go with the Powerhouse.

I was actually lost looking around on the internet for the "Perfect Father's Day Gift" for not only my Father, but my Husband as well. I wasn't thinking I would hit it out of the ball park with the same gift for both.

For my father I thought flashlight or spotlight because what do you buy for the man that has everything? I remembered when I was little, 5 or 6 and my Dad would always have a Mag light flashlight for everything, one in his truck, one in the house, when they came out with the small ones he bought those too, so I figured a flashlight or spotlight might help him around the lake and would definitely be a great gift for him.. I can't afford anything else that man would want :)

My Husband, the Camper, Camping is his life, I got him a Tent for Father's Day, a Beautiful Coleman Tent he wanted, but then I bought the light for my Dad and had to get the same for my Husband "from the kids".. :)

First let me tell you, we've been faithfully disappointed in LED technology lights time and time again, until we found a lantern we recently purchased for our camping trip that boasted 400 Lumens, then we saw that an LED light could actually work, light your way, and not eat your batteries one after another. That light was the game changer, Guide Gear was the brand and it also is a fantastic buy, I will review that one separately.

I actually purchased the Stanley FL5W10 5 Watt/520 Lumen light on sale and was drawn to the fact that not only was it waterproof, but you can dive 6 feet under water with the light on!! It's not a deep dive light, but it is a neat little gadget if you've lost something near the shore at the lake. Aside from that, when dropped in the water it flips light side up, which is very handy when you accidentally drop it in the water, then of course it is BRIGHT YELLOW in case you didn't leave it on when you dropped it.

The other factors that drew me to the light, lol (pun intended), was that not only is it rechargeable, but it comes equipped with a DC and an AC charger with the package!!! YOU CAN CHARGE IT ANYWHERE!!! When it is done charging it BEEPS for you, if you leave it on the charger it will kindly remind you. It boasts a 10 Hour Use time on dim, so that's a pretty great thing in addition to being rechargeable.

Just a little bit of Battery advice, Batteries build up a memory with bad charging habits, it's like filling up your car with gas all the way once, then filling it up again and again and again once you've only used a quarter of a tank, the rest of the gas is old starts to lose it's ummph.. Batteries do this too, although they used to be much worse.

I always live by the rule of charging ANY NEW ITEM, YES, INCLUDING CELL PHONES, CORDLESS PHONES, FLASHLIGHTS, ETC, FOR A FULL 24 HOURS BEFORE YOU EVEN TOUCH IT. Even though it may beep and say it's full, leave it on for a FULL 24 HOURS before using it for the First time. Once you use it, don't take it off the charger then immediately put it back on over and over, and lastly let the battery go completely dead once per month to every 6 weeks, then charge it again to full. This will help extend the life of your battery hopefully and help prevent a bad build up or "Memory".

Now then, back to the light, The quality of the light, what you've been waiting to hear about, oh my good gosh this thing lights up the way.. I have never owned a light so powerful, it is absolutely 520 Lumens strong.

We live in one of the few places on the planet and in the USA that you can actually see the stars at night. We live in a very rural area with not a lot of traffic, light pollution or neighbors.. one such of our few neighbors lives around 5 acres away from my house, and a slew of dense cedar trees between us scattered here and there; well he always hangs outside in the evenings with some buddies, without fail and I wanted to check this light out, show it off for my husband so he could be proud of his new light. so I call the neighbor, I asked if he was outside, of course he is.. I stood on my porch and I shined the light in his back-back-back yard, meaning a hundred and fifty or so yards from his porch and i was lighting up very clearly whatever I shined it on, not faint, but an extremely clear line of sight, and he said WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT? I said our new Spotlight, he says "no kiddin", then I told him it was LED.. he said "LED?? No way!"

his crew immediately drove over in their ATV to check out my Husband's new Spotlight, then they all left me, including my husband and my son to go over to the neighbors to drink beer and play with the new light some more.. my mistake.. or was it.. HA, I had a nice hot bath in peace and quiet after a day of it being all about the Dads.. :)

My Father told me his story later when he called to tell me how much he loved the light, except he lives on the lake and they actually got in the water AT NIGHT and played with the light. He fishes at night, so he wanted to see what it could actually do.. he loved it, he lives in an inlet on the lake so the water is a bit calmer than the main lake and he couldn't believe how well he could see under water AT NIGHT with the light.

Anyhow, the light lives up to it's claims and more, it is dimmable, and is "dunkable" and I'm sure you can "Drop it 10 Feet without damaging it", although we haven't tried that out yet. I uploaded a picture comparing the size to a standard DVD for you to be able to see just how small this light is. Smaller than you'd expect compared to most spotlights but SO POWERFUL, It's amazing.

I would recommend this light for any household, Rural, City Living, Campers, Travelers, in your car on a road trip or just around town, this light is quite possibly the best light we have ever purchased.

*** Update 8/8/11: When I wrote this review my spotlight was manufactured by/for Stanley and the product on this page was a Stanley light and was yellow, Now it is Black and Decker they appear to be related, or share manufacturers, or have sold the technology, whichever, they appeared to have changed only the color from yellow to red/orange (typical B&D coloring), it's the same light I reviewed, only they changed manufacturers on us who reviewed the light prior **

I hope to have helped you with your purchasing decision.

Thanks for reading!

Have many lights, maglight, surefire, 100, 200 lumens lights from Sams club etc. this one lights up and puts spot on the mountain behind my home, at least 2 miles. My other 100, 200 lumens disappears into the night. It is small, light and compact. Better than my large 1 and 2 million candle power lights which are hard to carry and much larger in size.

I have both the waterproof and non-waterproof versions. The waterproof version will not hold a charge very well and therefore gives very little operating life. About to throw it away, I decided to look into what was happening as the non-waterproof version works great and others have had the poor battery performance as well with this model.

The rotating on/off switch does not penetrate thru the plastic. Instead it moves a magnet that causes one to three internal magnetic reed switches to activate and allow current to flow to the light. The dimmer moves one of them as well I think. To try it yourself remove the cover, unscrew the three top screws then unscrew the battery charge lid retainer (one screw to the plastic tab). Pull the light out no wires get in the way. Try a refrigerator magnet over the black area until the light comes on.

The problem is with the reed switches. In the OFF (open) position the switches are not truly open, rather they still have a resistance of about 2000 ohms on my light enough to leak away most of the battery in a few days.

The magnetic switch idea was good but either the switches are cheap or they are defective in design. Only solution is to leave the light on the charger until ready to use hardly a good answer.

This is the second spotlight I bought this week. The first was a Coleman 4351-700. I did not realize from looking at it on the Internet how big and heavy it would be. It is enormous and extremely heavy because it uses a sealed lead acid battery (SLA) (like a car battery). My wife said it was too heavy and she couldn't get her hand around it. I returned it without ever opening the bubble pack packaging.

The Stanley seemed like everything I ever wanted. I need it for my sail boat where space is at a very high premium and every pound of weight really matters.

This light is small, powerful, and light weight. The light has a very tight beam and is even more powerful than I need. It was easy to light up trees that were 1500 feet away. I didn't have line of sight to anything further away on my first outing. You can adjust the light brighter or dimmer than the default setting. I didn't notice much more light when I went to the brightest setting. I could see a significant difference at the dimmest setting, but dimmest would still be bright enough for most uses. The instructions say that you can get 50 minutes at the very brightest setting and 10 hours at the dimmest.

Another reviewer said they could not turn the unit on using only one hand. I can, but it is easier using two hands, one to hold the unit and one to rotate the on/off switch.

Now for the bad news. This unit uses NiMH batteries (which are not bad). However, they are very susceptible to damage from overcharging and like to be kept charged. They do not have a memory effect like NiCads.

You can NOT leave the charged connected after it is charged (max 5 hours), and you must charge the unit at least once every 30 days even if you have not used it. I would have been happy to spend more money to get a unit that let you keep it on the charger by just having the unit turn off the charge to the batteries when they were fully charged. There is apparently more risk of damage using the 12 volt charger because the manual has a special STRONG warning about NEVER leaving it on this charger for more than 5 hours.

I knew when I ordered the unit that it had a non-standard battery pack. I assumed that this meant that I would someday have to purchase a replacement from the manufacturer. However, the manual states:

"The battery should last the service life of the unit." In other words, dead battery=throw entire unit away. They could have made this unit to take six off-the-shelf NiMH AAA batteries, it would have been worth the extra cost.

The manual tells you that battery recycling is required when you dispose of the unit. However, very few people would have the tools and patience to disassemble the unit to get to the batteries. The solution is either to not recycle, or smash the unit open with a hammer.

Looking at some of the negative reviews, I'm guessing some people can't read. "I charged it for 24hours" or "It was already charged, but I charged it overnight anway" Duck duck durgh duh!!! The instructions plainly state to only charge the product until the light is green, but no more than 3 hours, or you risk damaging the light. Guess what is sounds like most negative reviewers here did? That doesn't mean some people didn't get a lemon, which happens, but I'm leaning towards "users fault" with many of the bad reviews. I guess it is Stanley's fault, for not realizing too many Americans are too lazy/simple minded to read. They should have built in an automatic charge kill function.

I bought 2 of these over a year ago, one for my dad and one for me. They've worked great so far. They hold their charge a long time. They're small and bright. The flashlight feels solid/well built. It has a dim/bright control. I have thoroughly tested the waterproof claim during several night-time swimming adventures, the light passed the test/abuse. What's not to like?

I only have 1 complaint. The on and off control should be simpler/quicker.

It worked for about 15 minutes, and the charging speed is horrible to boot. Initially it inserted into the socket perfectly, everything worked, but it was very stiff and unyielding in respect to getting it positioned so that it wasn't in the way of the gear shift. When I tried to angle it to the side a little, so that I could put the car in park, the charger rotated within the cigarette lighter housing so that the goose neck arm fell over onto the base of the gear shift. The phone was now sideways and no longer being held up no matter what I tried, the thing just kept rotating in the socket. Having the phone in the sideways position would be doable if you have a passenger, but if you are driving by yourself, then you'll really have to rubberneck to see the display and you won't be able to watch the traffic. In any case, my phone let me know that it was not able to get a GPS signal in that position, so the car mount is useless to me. Once again, another product made in China, although you would think it would cost less with the cheap labor and all. Is anything still made in the USA?

Virtual Reality Sound Labs VRTP3N1C175 Slim 3 In 1 Power Inverter - 175 Watts

Virtual Reality Sound Labs VRTP3N1C175 Slim 3 In 1 Power Inverter - 175 Watts
  • 3 in 1 Slim line power inverter
  • Power up all of your device up to 175 watts in your car, truck or SUV
  • 110V AC, 12v DC, USB Charger 5V DC
  • Great for lap top games, DVD players, radar detectors, digital cameras and more!
  • Power multiple devices at once

I use this inverter on my motorcycle to charge a spare battery for my Blackberry, to charge my netbook computer battery, and to charge a spare battery for my digital camera.

Everything is carried in my tankbag and the unit is quiet and runs fairly cool even in the closed tankbag. Of course I'm not really stressing the capacity since the ASUS netbook takes 36W when running and much less to charge the battery. The Blackbery and camera batteries also require very little current. With the netbook and the USB charger plugged in, the VR3 is running at about 20% capacity.

I haven't noticed a large current draw from the unit, but I usually use it when the motorcycle is running and providing lots of power. Haven't tried using it just from the battery.

It is very convenient to have the 110VAC and the USB output so I can charge two things at once and don't have to carry another cable, which works fine and has not caused any problems.

The AC output is on the end of the unit, which is good for the netbook charger and not so much for the camera charger since it has the flip-out plug and makes the whole thing a little awkward when plugged together.

I like that the DC input cable unplugs from the unit so it can be stored more compactly when not in use.

Altogether I would recommend this as a low capacity inverter/converter combo. Very convenient and the price is right.

I also bought this from Costco just today and I was concerned when I got home and read the previous reviewer's comments. I decided to give the product the benefit of the doubt and actually tried it. I attached both my cell phone charger and the charger for my Garmin GPS at the same time. Both charged without problems. I actually had some initial qualms because there was no sound at all coming from the inverter and I wondered how it could be cooling without a fan. Unconvinced, I plugged in a battery charger with four AA batteries. No noise and the unit is barely warm. If all of this holds true after a few more tests, I'll go back and get a couple of more. You do have to keep in mind that this is a 175-watt inverter and thus is limited. I tried old Gateway laptop and it wouldn't work but this dinosaur computer reeves up a terrible cooling fan on startup and it's too much for this little unit.

Tried Everything about it, Its definately not 175 watts, will not run anything more than about 75 watts, 15.4" laptop will work after its booted it up but wont run with the wireless turned on. It actually comes with a Fm modulator & that works good, really powerful. But I bought it for a bike and it will be used to charge e-cig, cell phone & various other batts, maybe to recharge a shutdown laptop occasion. So hopefully it wont let me down. Just dont expect to run anything over 75 watts & you'll be fine. For 14$ if I get a year or 2 out of it I'll be happy. Bottom line its really compact charger/inverter & will run only the smallest netbooks, tablets. Even says in the manual it will run 100 watts for 20 mins, so 75 continuous is its max.

If you want small inverter with ability to run tvs, large laptops & have an extra 12 volt plug in it, I'd suggest Black & Decker, 200watt continuous/400surge , Maxx SST. I have one that still works like a champ, even after 8 severely used & abused years.(Orange one, Not the newer silver one, just cant speak for that one), A well sepent 20$.

I purchased this last night. Wanting a inverter to power my netbook and mobile devices. Open it up today I found out it was a FM transmitter as well. It didn't mention that on the packaging. So I plugged it in to a Mp3 player and tune to the default station on the unit. Wow!!! I was impressed with the sound and clarity.

I live in a city and FM Trans. don't go together. In the many Trans. I have own they were all horrible. Especially a stoplights and especially in a Ford Taurus I occasionally drive around. The receiver on the Taurus is in the trunk so any ordinary trans. doesn't do well due to the six foot range of the trans. I unplug the Trans and find out the station was broadcasting a local program. Usually there would be bleeding and you would notice this almost immediately; not the case here.

Later I got in the Taurus and which I have a DLO iPod docking/charger. I only use it for hi-way trips out of the city. This unit on the same station that was broadcasting locally was powerful enough to over come that and the distance to the trunk to produce good fidelity and static-free sound in the city.

I would highly recommend this to anyone.

One downside the manual states that you can only use the 120V outlet for about 20 min.

I bought my camper new in 2005 in 2008, I replaced the original WFCO 9855 with another WFCO 9855 A friend in a local RV shop tried to get me to use PD unit, but I stubbornly stuck with the WFCO the WFCO has had a tendency to 'cook' my batteries it may not be the WFCO's fault for two reasons one, I don't check them as often as I should and secondly, I have a long power line from the converter to the battery (about 15 feet) I think it's #6, but it may not be large enough for the converter to correctly interpret the battery's condition -

This time when the WFCO started acting up, I decided to try the PD unit and so far I like it the install was a bit tricky as space was cramped, but the unit fit with some wire rerouting connecting the two wires and plugging it in was a breeze -

It's not in an easy access location, but I left the optional pendant connected for a while and the unit seemed to be cycling properly in spite of being 'cooked' once by the WFCO, the battery appears to be working fine I'm thinking the cycling on the PD unit has actually helped the battery back to a decent condition after a couple weeks, I removed the pendant and put the breaker panel back together -

The WFCO was a 55 amp unit and I replaced it with a 60 amp I have had two deep cycle batteries, so I thought it would be smart to increase the size slightly in case I add another battery these days, I haven't parked anywhere that I haven't had at least a 110V 15A circuit available for battery charging so I haven't bothered adding the second battery -

The real issue is how this unit performs over time so far, so good -

Update 11/27/2012

I purchased the original unit in March 2012 In July, the original unit stopped working I contacted 2008 second time, they promptly arranged for a replacement unit which has performed flawlessly since hats off to '2008 second time' a great vendor to do business with -
