BlackBerry Torch 9800 Rapid Home Travel Wall Charger + Rapid Car Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable for BlackBerry Torch 9800This is a great value for the three typical ways to charge your BB Torch. If you bought these at your smartphone dealer or blackberry you would pay 5 to 10 times as much. And they do the job nicely!

Three pieces of equipment in this purchase -

#1 USB cable to connect Blackberry to Computer. Didn't work.

Sent email in and got a replacement it Didn't work either.

#2 Car Charger for Blackberry lasted two weeks doesn't work anymore.

#3 Home charger for Blackberry still works.

I wish I could give this negative stars! I have the charger I received w/my phone but wanted to purchase one for work so that I could just leave there in case my battery was low. HUGE MISTAKE. It appeared to charge my phone, however the second I touched any key my battery would immediately drop to 3 or 4%. I tried to charge it w/my other charger and it wouldn't hold its charge either. I ended up having to purchase a new battery. The cheap comes out expensive sometimes, def learned my lesson w/this one.

Escort Solo S2 Cordless Radar and Laser Detector

Escort Solo S2 Cordless Radar and Laser Detector
  • Convenient cordless design uses two AA batteries
  • Provides extreme long-range warning on all radar bands, including X, K, SuperWide Ka, and instant-on POP mode, along with 360-degree laser protection
  • Brilliant high-resolution LCD with LED backlight
  • Advanced EZ-Programming lets you customize up to 10 features
  • Exclusive AutoSensitivity intelligently filters out annoying false alarms

Stage: I live in a city of approximately 100K and drive roughly 5 miles to work daily through commercially-populated areas. The daily on-time of my S2 is approximately 45 minutes. I take 1-3 200+ mile round-trip interstate trips once per month. The detector is on continuously at all times while driving. Have owned the S2 for > two years. Before that, owned an 8500 for two years. Before that, used Bells and Cobras.

Battery Life: 2 AAs last me approximately two months. That's 12 AAs per year, or in bulk, approximately $12/yr or $1/mo. Having used a corded 8500 for a couple of years (which I loved) and having power supply failures due to cord fatigue, not having to deal with a cord is worth it, BAR NONE.

Sensitivity: This device is, in my opinion, just as good as the corded Passport models. Scientific tests will refute that, but real-world usage will not. I was worried by an article that said "battery-operated detectors 'sleep' between cycles so are therefore less effective" but in real-world conditions, I do not think this is an issue: the 'sleep' time, if any, is a non-issue.

Controls: I have large hands and fingers. Even so, this device is crisp to use. Navigation of settings, should you decide to change the out-of-box defaults, is simple and straight-forward.

Overall: Nothing compares. No cords. Battery life to cost ratio for such is a non-issue. Real-world sensitivity beyond actual need. No questions asked, the best deal out there for a radar detector, period.

The detection capabilities of this unit are great. I got the S2 a couple years ago so I could use it both on batteries on a motorcycle and plugged in in a car. It works wonderfully in both places, except that the batteries jiggled loose due to the bike's vibration. Solved that by shimming them with a spare foam earplug.

However, much more serious, is the display. About two years ago, I had to send my S2 back to Escort, under warrantee, due to a patch of dead pixels. They replaced the display.

About a year ago, now out of warrantee, I noticed a patch of dead pixels again, and it's growing. Also, the the contrast is decaying to the point where it's nigh-impossible to read during the day, and it is impossible to read at all for the first 20 minutes or so when the temperature is above 80 degrees (Fahrenheit). Maybe the newer units have a better display.

The Escort Solo S2 is an excellent radar/laser detector. Two AA batteries provide the power for those who don't wish to deal with cords. Also has the ability to be hard-wired to vehicle 12V power with extra accessory cord kit.

Gives ample warning for radar bands Ka, K and X. Note: X-band radar guns are 1970's-type technology and you will encounter mostly K and the newer Ka band radar gun usage. The Solo S2 will pick up a Ka-using speed enforcer up to a couple miles away the cheaper detectors give far less warning.

As for laser speed detection, well, it lets you know when you are being targeted. You will not have enough time to slow down unless you are using this in combination will other anti-laser measures such as special license plate covers and diffraction coating on your headlights. This happens because the infra-red laser beam enforcers use only spreads to 18 inches diameter at 500 feet and 36 inches diameter at 1000 feet.

As for the warranty, although I have had no problems, be aware that the manufacturer, Escort Radar, has a whole list of sellers from which purchases of their detectors will NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. see http://www.escortradar.com/unauthorized-list.htm

I have owned 2 escort solo S2's one for my Z06 and one for my truck. they have saved me at least 100 tickets. I do go through some batteries but the convience and ease of use more than makes up for that. I will never use a corded model. I have not gotten 1 ticket since I started using it. I average 80 to 90 mph and drive 30,000 miles a year. I have gotten signals from over a mile away plenty of time to slow down.

I have had the S2 for over a year now. I have also owned both the V1 and passport 9500i.

All had things I liked and disliked. This is my list on the Solo. I am listing them in order of importance to me.

Like:

-Cordless means a nice clean look in the car and since you generally need to hide this if your parked in public its nice to be able to just slide it off and stash it. The real plus is when your putting it back up you do not have to plug the power cord into it.

-Display-Doesn't light up the whole car at night when it goes off (like the V1).

-Battery Life-I go about 3 to 4 weeks with Eneloop low discharge rechargables. This was about a week longer than i was getting with throw away batteries.

Dislike:

-Range-its not even close to the 9500 or V1. If the radar is over a hill its near zero. If its around a bend you need to slow down immediately. Many times the warning has only provided 2 or 3 seconds to slow down. If the radar is over a hill and they are using instant on then hide your detector and ask for a break as this unit is just not sensitive enough to pick up a zap from an earlier car ahead of you. When this unit goes off hit the brakes. I have often visually seen the police car before this unit goes off if they are in front of me in traffic. This never happened with the 9500 or V1.

-Volume-with the music turned up to a good listening level you can't hear the alert and the display doesn't stand out being basicly just lcd that you really need the audio alert to be louder.

-windshield mount, suction cups wear out fairly quick. They have a better mount but the one that comes with it is good when the cups are ok but once they stop working thats generally it. A minor issue.

Summary:

If you cannot live with a corded model this is by most accounts the best cordless out there but make no mistake you will get no where near the warning or range of the best corded detectors, its just not very sensitive. I haven't owned any other detectors recently besides the V1 and 9500 so cant speak for the more moderately priced ones. I have had some close calls due to the lack of sensitivity of this unit and am close to retiring this unit because of it.

update: I bought the redline about a year ago and its the best unit of any I have ever owned. If you live in an area without a lot of false alarms (9500i for those areas) its the best.

Peak PKC0CT 2/8/12 Amp Intelligent Battery Charger

Peak PKC0CT 2/8/12 Amp Intelligent Battery Charger
  • Micro processor controlled 4 stage charging process
  • Soft start feature allows for safer charging start up
  • Selectable charge rate for all types of 12V lead acid batteries
  • Reverse polarity, over temperature protection, over voltage protection
  • 2A float mode, 6 amp and 12 amp charging option for fast charge and ETL

This charger seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I have three cars and the included clips to fit the battery posts are too small to fit any any of my cars. I purchased new, larger clips and added them to this charger. It seems to work well at first. I have an antique car the is only driven a few times a year and requires a "float charge" to keep the battery conditioned between monthly starts. This charger always changes to error code F05 after several hours of float charge. I thought the battery may be bad so I purchased a new battery (at over $100.00) and the charger does the same thing. I decided to check it on my other two cars with the same results. If you're looking for a charger to maintain a seldom used car, this isn't for you. I've since purchased a Exide charger and it's been flawless.

This light-weight charger with tiny clips may be well suited for occasional use for small batteries, but was a disappointing.

Item delivery was fast and the item worked great as advertised. It should have been included with the original battery tender when it was purchased. The aligator clips makes it very easy to charge whatever scooter or motorcycle I want charged. I can't understand why the original had circle ends that made you unbolt the postive and negative connections of the battery so you install them to the battery and charger. The aligator clips eliminates the need to unbolt anything by just cliping it to the end of the positive and negative connections on the motor scooters battery.

USB Travel Kit with Car Charger, Travel Adapter & Cable for Apple iPod

USB Travel Kit with Car Charger, Travel Adapter & Cable for Apple iPod
  • Apple iPod USB Travel Kit with
  • Travel Adapter &
  • Car Charger,
  • Cable

The USB cable looks and feels very similar to the apple one, but the chargers have a somewhat cheesy feel. Then again, that's totally to be expected when you buy a whole set for less than half the price of a cable or either charger alone from Apple or one of the name brand companies.

I also should note that the AC adapter is 100-240v compatible, so it can work worldwide. I was wondering about that when I bought it because none of the tech info mentioned it. In fact, the casing itself was designed to be used with the EU style plugs, and that's why it protrudes from the body of the case.

Also, the items I received look like the submitted picture, and not the MFG's picture, for what it's worth... Doesn't matter much because in any case the items aren't very aesthetically pleasing anyways.

Bottom line, from reading the other reviews it looks like they have QC issues, but I wound up with a perfectly functional set at a great price.

Guys,

Do NOT EVER buy this product. I lost my Ipod Nano(8gb) because of this cheap nonsense. As soon as I plugged in the charger into the wall outlet, and connected it to the nano, the charger blew a fuse, and had smoke coming out of it. My nano didn't start after that. No matter what I tried. I took it to apple store, and they couldn't start it either. My warranty was void.

Go for real apple products, not for these cheap chargers. I'm not sure if this company BargainCell is selling authentic products, or just cheap makeovers without ever having tested them out.

Again, do not buy it, unless you want to risk losing your ipod.

The car charger worked great. I could charge my iPod while listening to it. I'm currently trying to use the Travel Adaptor, but so far it's not working. I'm trying to discover the problem. It's not the cord, because the cord is working when connecting the iPod to computer. So, I can't really say anything about how the travel adapter works. But I give the car charger 5 stars. It gets the job done.

edit :: i actually got it to work. it works great. you just have to wait a second for your iPod to display the charging symbol.

Uniden Atlantis 250G 16-Channel VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio

Uniden Atlantis 250G 16-Channel VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio
  • Submersible handheld marine VHF radio is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international channels
  • Supports all NOAA weather channels; emergency/weather alert function alerts you of any emergencies
  • Channel scanning for all or programmed channels; instant channel 16/9 watch function
  • Brilliant backlit LCD display and backlit keypad make radio easy to use, day or night
  • Includes NiMH battery and drop-in charger, can also be powered with alkaline AA batteries; 3-year warranty

Got this for my small boat, it was on sale at West Marine and listed as 'waterproof' (who wants a boat radio that's not waterproof?). Takes multiple power sources, does dual watch, weather band, and the price was right.

After it charged up it worked great. We used it several times for coordinating activites without incident.

Until, while helping trailer the boat, my friend slips on some seaweed and this 'waterproof' radio hits the water. It was in MAYBE a foot of water for half a second, but that was enough. The PTT button was stuck on, the button would physically push and release but the circuit stayed active and the radio kept transmittingsalt water had shorted the PTT switch.

Turning the radio off and on was no helpit refused to power up with the PTT switch held down (just made a beeping noise).

Further research reveals that this unit is rated JIS4. According to , JIS4 means 'splash resistant'.

Most of the other marine portables are rated JIS7 (same as IPX7)can be submerged under 1 meter (3 feet) of water for 30 minutes with no ill effects. Some are rated JIS8 (indefinitely submersible up to mfr. specified depth).

Many of the other units also float, and most aren't that much more expensive than this one.

You might check out the Uniden MHS75, which is actually cheaper, smaller, and is JIS8 rated. It also has SAME weather radio alerts, which this doesn't.

I'm giving this 2/5 stars because I think a boating radio, to be used on the water, should be more than just 'splash proof', especially when nearly all the competition is JIS7. And had me and my friends been stuck on the water instead of on the boat launch, the unexpected failure of this unit would have put us in serious trouble.

Buy Uniden Atlantis 250G 16-Channel VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio Now

I use this radio for open water swimming events in salt water as a Pilot in a 15' Zodiac Inflatable or kayaks.

Pro: Good ergonomics, has both 1 and 5 watts, clear communications, rechargeable batter or AA pack.

Con: I was trying to make it through some waves in a kayak and the boat flipped. The radio was attached to the kayak and got wet, not for long and not at all deep. Now the display is fogged up and it doesn't seem to turn on.

The ad says "Water proof", JIS4/CFR46 Waterproof Level. This is actually a level 4, out of 1 to 8, which only rates it for sea spray.

Net: If this WAS water proof, I would recommend it. Since it is only rated for sea spray, I can not recommend this radio for boating. How does this get put in the Marine section I wonder?

It is already the second Uniden Atlantis 250BK Marine Radio we use on our motorboat on waterways inside and outside Europe. Perfect to handle. Nice looking. Well working. And really waterproof. My wife let it fall down into the water last week. But after we got it back on the boat after some minutes and dried it it was working like before without any fail. By the way: The white color of the item was my wife's request. She loves it and she promised never let it fall into the water again. Wait and see.

Was working on zodiacs doing an FTX and had some decent sized seas but at no point in our night did I or the radio go in the water. Apparently that was all it took because because now the window is completely fogged up and I have nothing but problems transmitting on it now. I wish companies could be held responsible in some fashion when their marketing for an item is "waterproof" but the radio shouldn't even be anywhere around water.

Wagan EL2206 Elite 3000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Wagan EL2206 Elite 3000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter
  • 3000 watts continuous power, 6000 watts peak surge power
  • 4 AC outlets, wireless remote control and high output terminal
  • LED display shows DC voltage in and percent maximum load used
  • Overload, overheat and low battery protection
  • Recharge appliances faster and extend life of appliances using pure sine

I am no expert in inverters or electrical systems therefore rely on electrical products meeting national or international standards. I inspected the inverter and noticed one of the input terminals had one or two arc burns. The front of the panel had a scratch that was painted over with what looked like a felt pen. I could not find a lable with a serial number or indication of meeting national or international standads such as CSA, ISO, EN, CE, UL etc.

I was concerned and borrowed a scope to analyze the sine wave. The sine wave looked good with only minor distortion at one small point.

I found the unit created some noise in a radio plugged into the inverter and in a portable radio within a few feet of the unit. The portable radio noise fell off quickley with distance. The in line interference I felt could be filtered out for sensitive equipment. I was prepared to risk keeping the unit as it seemed to perform reasonably. I did however want a unit that was unmarked so I returned the unit to amazon. I do not at this time have a replacement unit.

Buy Wagan EL2206 Elite 3000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter Now

I bought this inverter in Aug of 2010 as a whole house inverter for my Class C RV. The unit is rated at 3000 Watt continous, so I put a 20 Amp fuse on the output just to be safe. The fuse would blow if I put more than 2400 wat load on the unit. I finally got the unit fully installed with the appropriate transfer switches this summer, and it worked flawlessly for a couple month. Then last weekend the unit had no output. I checked and the fault light was on. I reset the unit and restarted it and BANG!! out came a short flash and a bunch of smoke. BTW the 20 Amp fuse never blew.

Now I am left wondering what to do with a crispy $700.00 inverter it is not heavy enough to hold my boat in place. Guess I will try contacting the MFG and see If I have any options.

I have read the other reviews and have had a different experience. I have my home and workshop off the grid and use multiple pure sine wave inverters to provide my electrical needs. I have the home split between two of these Wagan 2206 inverters. They have provided the power for about 6 months at this point with no issue that I did not cause. These units replaced other failed brands.

I have found that if you feed them with the correct sized batteries and the correct sized wire they perform as advertised. The battery bank that powers these inverters is charged using solar and wind power. At this point I'm completely satisfied with the units. I did have one issue that I actually caused. The unit was replaced promptly under warranty.

For the money they have performed better than some of the more expensive units I have had.

Garmin nüvi 3760LMT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffi

Garmin nüvi 3760LMT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates
  • 4.3-Inch LCD Screen
  • Preloaded with street maps for the U.S., Canada & Mexico
  • Lifetime map updates
  • Lifetime traffic updates
  • Lane assist with Junction View
  • Bluetooth wireless technology

This is my second Garmin Nuvi GPS. My first was a Nuvi 360 and it still works after more than 4 years. I decided it was time to upgrade to a newer version after having my old one for so many years. Some of the features that caused me to choose the 3760LMT were the lifetime maps and traffic, Lane Assist, Junction View, trafficTrends, and myTrends. If you're looking for additional reviews for this unit, you can search for the 3760T, which is the same unit, minus the lifetime map updates.

Pros: The wide screen is a great improvement over the smaller screen I was used to on the 360. The color is much more vivid and the screen is much brighter. Even during a sunny day, I have the brightness turned down. I had my old 360 up to max brightness and it was difficult to see in bright sunlight. The sound is also much louder on the 3760. I had the sound on max for my 360. The 3760 has the volume at less than half and it is plenty loud enough to hear above the road noise.

Two functions I think should be a must for any unit are Lane Assist and Junction View. Lane Assist shows you which lanes you need to be in when approaching a junction on a freeway. So far, I have noticed that it is quite accurate as to the number of lanes and picking the right lanes to be in. Junction View shows you a rendered picture of what the junction signs you are approaching look like and an arrow is included showing with route to take. The junction signs shown in the 3760 are, for the most part, what you actually see on the highway. When the junction view is shown, it is up for only a few seconds and then the unit reverts back to the map display. When shopping for a unit, I highly recommend these options.

Another great function is the Trip Planner. With my old unit, I used to have to manually move to a starting point on the map, then select my destination to determine travel time for a proposed trip. Now, with the Trip Planner, the 3760 allows me to plan trips, including the entry of a desired arrival time, which shows a suggested departure time taking into account travel time for the trip. You can save the trips and then call them up when you're ready for them. This is another must-have option.

I was also really looking forward to the traffic information being delivered directly to the unit. With my 360, I had to use a smart phone to get traffic information, which was not very convenient while driving in traffic. I don't live in an area where traffic information is broadcast, but I do travel to Los Angeles frequently. My take so far on how well the traffic information works is that it is better than nothing. I've noticed that it is not always completely accurate. I've hit slowdowns that didn't show on the unit. I have also seen it be very accurate. I was traveling westbound on a stretch of freeway in an area where the eastbound traffic was moving very slow. The map showed the point where the eastbound slow traffic began, which corresponded closely to where the slowdown actually started. When traffic information is being received, a traffic icon shows up in the upper left of the screen. The icon turns yellow for slow traffic ahead and red if traffic is really jammed. The unit automatically re-routed me once when traffic on my route was report as red. The route it chose was the same one I would have chosen had I known about the traffic jam. If the traffic is reported as slow, you can ask for a suggested alternate route. The unit displays the travel time for the main route and the alternate route so that you can make a decision of whether the alternate route is worthy of consideration. If you have your estimated arrival time displayed, the traffic function updates your arrival time to include traffic slowdowns. When it is receiving traffic information, the displayed estimated arrival time is much more accurate.

Cons: Reception of traffic information is not flawless. The unit occasionally loses the traffic data connection. Powering the unit off and then back on restored the connection.

A major problem I have with this unit is that it stops drawing the map after it has been running continuously for about 3 hours. I noticed that another reviewer of the 3760T reported the same problem. My guess is this is caused by a software problem and, hopefully, it will be resolve in a future update. The only way I can avoid this problem is to turn the unit off and then power it back on every couple of hours during a long trip. This is rather annoying for a GPS that costs more than $400.

I can't say whether trafficTrends and myTrends are good options or not, because I've seen no evidence that either is doing anything. It's possible that I haven't driven in the same area enough where traffic data is available for this option to kick in. However, I would have thought there would be some indication of myTrends working. The way I understood myTrends was that the unit would watch where you like to drive and then start routing you that way. I have a route I travel frequently that has a shorter by-pass, which I always avoid since it's only a 2-lane highway. My 3760 has not realized that I don't take that by-pass, because it tries to get me to take it every time. My recommendation for these 2 options is to skip them and save some money. If you commute every day in a big city, maybe these might be useful.

When searching for a location in another city, the unit does not display the resulting city list in order of distance from your current location. I'm not sure what criteria it uses to order the list. At a point about 250 miles from Los Angeles, CA, when trying to select a location near Los Angeles, the resulting city list shows Los Angeles, CA as the 45th entry on the list. Paging down 5 at a time, 9 times, to get to the desired city is not very convenient.

In summary, knowing what I know now, I would probably have chosen the 1490LMT instead. It has all of the functions that I find useful in the 3760. But, at around $200, it's a much better value.

I upgraded from my 765T, which I have been enjoying for couple of years, mainly due to:

1. One of the best designed windshield mount in the industry, my old Tomtom kept falling all the time.

2. Removing the unit from the cradle is a such joy!

3. Multiple routing planning.

However its touch screen is horrible, basically useless. And I thought its map is out of date.

I have high hope for this beauty, upon playing it for couple of days, I noticed that:

1. When traffic indicator turns red, it doesn't give estimated delayed time anymore! I can't believe they removed one of the most useful feature...

2. The mini USB cable has an awkward angle into the cradle, why can't they make it flush and straight?

3. The routing algorithm seems to give quite some odd suggestions.

4. Only two customizable data fields, such a waste of high resolution screen estate. Tomtom beats it hands down. Come on give us more choices!

5. I did a map update yesterday, and noticed that it doesn't include a big highway on/off ramp changes, which happened about a year ago, so i'm not sure how up to date / accurate they are, it somehow defeats the claimed "life time map update" feature, which is quite disappointing . I also noticed some express way have wrong number of lanes.

6. Still no speed-sensitive automatic volume adjustment, such a bummer.

I kinda regret my "upgrade", and think they are going backwards on some essential features.

Update on 6/14

1. The auto power off some times doesn't work, when ended up draining the battery.

2. Sometime the lane guidance is complete messed up. i.e. one a two lane road it shows a 6 lanes!

3. The POI seach is not intuitive at all, I have to use "go to", then choose "near start, on the route, near destination", why can't they simply show POIs on the map, then let user to pan/zoom? Almost every major online map software offer that feature...

Update on 7/1

I noticed the shining "chrome" top edge caused a lot of glare under California sun. So much so it blinds my eye, I think they should make the top edge more matt like. It won't be as cool, but more pratical and safer.

Update on 9/13

1. I upgraded the map/firmware to 2012.20, and noticed it shows a split screen of map/visual on exit, as opposed to visual only, which is quite nice.

2. I also noticed that exit view is very photo realistic, so much so upon close inspection I figured it's actually from REAL photos (judging from the shape of tree and lighting pole), which is quite amazing consider the amount of data to be squeezed in!

3. Quite often it crashed (auto powered off) for no apparent reason.

4. Quite often the arriving time is messed up badly, for example I arrived at 6pm, but on the GPS it says 9pm.

I have read many reviews here and would like to address the negative ones:

When I first connected the 3760, I could not acquire satellites. Having read the nightmares about four hours of updating only to have failure to load, or failure to restart, I was nervous about trying to update the 3760. I figured I might have to return it.

I went to the Garmin update and downloaded the updates to my PC. I turned on the 3760 and plugged it into the pc, and then followed the update wizard. I updated the firmware and some voice updates. The process took about 5 minutes!! I have an Intel quad 7 processor, so an older PC might take a bit longer.

I then set up to take about an hour trip. The 3760 found satellites and calculated the route in less than 30 seconds. I love the screen clarity, and the external speaker gives sufficient volume. Then I intentionally went off route and the 3760 recalculated in less than 10 seconds!

I bought the 3760 because my TomTom took 5-10 minutes to startup and calculate routes, and it was hard to hear with any kind of cabin noise. It took a long time to recalculate as well.

Needless to say, I am completely satisfied with the 3760's performance and highly recommend it--just be careful to have the unit fully charged before updating--and follow the instructions.

Cheers

Getting used to a GPS with traffic-sensitive routing takes some getting used to, but the more I use it, the more I like it.

I bought this unit, refurbished, for under $200 when starting a new job, and I needed fast route calculations (and re-calculations), larger display, free map updates, and an input method that could be used safely without having to pull over. I got all that with the 3790LMT.

I have a smart phone with Google maps, but felt that a dedicated GPS was better. Typing an address on a touch-QWERTY keyboard while driving is just too dangerous. A snap--in holder-standard with any GPS--is an expensive extra for a phone, and you will have to attach the power cord separately. Maps don't show up if you are in an area with no cell phone coverage. And running GPS on a smartphone makes it heat up quite a bit, and wears down the battery.

First off, I want to comment on the negatives that others have talked about: Ads, and unit running hot. I have not seen a single pop-up ad, and yes I use the live traffic feature. As far as running hot, it does, but seems to be built for it.

I work in and around Boston, and have to drive to client sites during rush hour almost daily. The routing around traffic quite helpful; I have learned more in three months than in years about how to get around some traffic chokepoints.

One feature I have come to depend on is the ability to find Parking near where I am, and the matching feature, to find where you Parked; if you remove the unit from the holder while the power is still applied, it auto-magically assumes you've parked the car. Then, after completing my service call, I just Find Last Parking, and I am guided back to my car. No buttons to push, no Apps to load and remember.

The voice commands work better than I expected. For my regular clients, I can call up Favorites, select one, and start Navigation without having to take my hands off the steering wheel. It doesn't work as well for an unknown address, so I use the touch screen for that, but with predictive typing for City, and Street, it's safe enough.

The screen's high resolution helps compensate for my older eyes, and I chose this over a larger screen but with lower resolution. A larger screen would have not fit in a pocket, and would have had a short (if any) battery life.

The 3790 does seem to adapt to 'learn' my common routes, and will often advise me of distance, and estimated time to a location even if I haven't told it where I am going. At first I questioned some of the routing choices, but either it has learned, or I have, and we are generally in agreement. If I chose a different route, it senses quickly, and will often recalculate in the time it takes to get to the bottom of an exit ramp.

I use the speakerphone feature, and it synced my work Blackberry contact list right up, easier to read on the nuvi than on the phone itself.

I just did my first quarterly map update, and the whole process took a little over an hour; slow but better (according to reviews) than it used to be.

In all, I got all that I expected and then some when I purchased this unit. Well worth the $170 (refurb).

I go way back with Garmin, way before the Nuvi models came out. The thing about Garmin is they stand behind their products 100% I have dealt with their tech support and those people are excellent and very helpful. This new generation of Nuvi's blew me away. You get a lot of bang for your buck on the 3760LMT model I just purchased on Amazon. Since this is my 5th Garmin and like I mentioned I been with them from the beginning this model is outstanding. Free lifetime maps, Free Traffic and when your using it its intuitive to your traffic patterns. It looks ahead for you and tells you how long until you hit your next favorite destination. Like I tell all my friends you wont go wrong with a Garmin.

First thing you should know that other reviews are crazy. The one with one star must of been defective because it still works great and charging is a piece of cake. The other one has an otterbox on it so of course it wouldn't stay on but he is extremely right in how powerful it is. I have a 4th generation iPod touch and the battery had almost two full charges and at least what I noticed, it does charge a little bit faster than the normal charging USB. I highly recommend buying this, it's a little pricy but with quality there's going to be a little extra spent. It's worth it though!

It is ok, but dont expect too much reserve power. Charge capacity is weak. I switched from iPhone 4 to 5 shortly after so I do not utilize this unit very often. But I still believe it is worth the price.

Did not work from the onset. Charged it, plugged it into iPhone, iPod, iPad, all to no avail. Better off with a charger that actually uses the 15-pin cable for charging, as opposed to this one, with a micro USB.

Wagan 4-Way 12V Automotive Socket Extender

Wagan 4-Way 12V Automotive Socket Extender
  • Expands 1 lighter socket to power 4 electronic items
  • Plugs into 12v cigarette lighter socket
  • Fuse protector
  • Mounting hardware included

This splitter is HEAVY and bulky. But if located correctly, these are advantages. I was using all 4 outlets with multiple swaps going on all day by people from different angles in the van, and there was never a problem with intermitant contact or loose contacts. I attribute that to the heavy casing and the heavy outlets. The only caution are the two tabs used to attach the splitter. They appear to be undersized if the splitter is hung. I used both the provided double-sided tape and the tabs to hang my splitter it is quite stable.

I received this item fast and I installed it in about 5 minutes. It came with double sticky tape and 4 screws so you can choose which method is best for you. I chose the screws because I wanted a more secure installation. I drilled the holes and mounted the bracket and the unit attached easily. I plugged it in and hooked up my key fob charger, phone charger and radio transmitter and had all 3 operating without a hitch. The unit is sturdy and mounted with the screws I had no problems plugging and unplugging my devices. The only thing I can complain about is that the item I received was not the same as the picture so they must have substituted. I have no problem with that as the substitution in my opinion is better looking and it works awesome. I would buy another if I owned another vehicle. I recommend this to everyone.

I uploaded 4 pictures also so you can see the unit installed.

Not much to it. But still, it does what it supposed to do, and and is solid.

Comes with screws and a mount for the dash, and double sided tape so you can mount the way you prefer. 4 outlets, one with the "spring" bit that works with your cig lighter. The maybe 3' cord leading to the device is nice, and makes it flexible for mounting.

Want Wagan 4-Way 12V Automotive Socket Extender Discount?

Cord is as specified @ 34"

Cord is all black unlike picture (its a newer model than pictured)

Cord is 18 gauge wire

Safegaurded by a 10 amp fuse

All 4 sockets are usable for any device and all 4 sockets can be used at the same time as long as the total amperage pulled by those 4 devices is a total of 10 amp's or less.

Mounting screws are very short, so I used some longer screws; I didn't try to use the doubled sided tape.

I installed the unit under the passenger dash on my bass boat and ran wires from the battery to a female adapter to the front where it connected to the male adapter.

Unit Works greats great

For the price it is a great deal.

This product was pretty good for what it was. It's positives is that there are four sockets to charge

but the negatives is that the sockets are really narrow so if your plug is wide then you will most likely have to leave a slot unoccupied simply because the sockets are so close together.

Another con for a compact car is the cord is pretty long.

And the final and major con is it worked well for the first 9 months but died just last week. It is very disappointing as I paid more in hopes this would last a while. I will be contacting the company

Motorola T7100R 7-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios (Pair) (Silver)

Motorola T7100R 7-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios
  • Communicate from a distance of up to 7 miles away
  • 22 channels to communicate from along with 38 codes per channel
  • Comes with rechargeable batteries and drop-in charger
  • Backlit display for easy viewing in dark places
  • Comes with removable belt clips to clip on anywhere

I bought this 2-way radio to use around the rural community I live in, especially for communicating in emergency wildfire situations. It is an area with rolling hills, many pine, oak trees and brush.

The Good: Easy to use, clear instruction manual, more than enough channels, clear sound.

The Bad: It didn't work over a mile as soon as line of sight was lost. If there is a hill between the two radios, I could only hear a click that the other radio was trying to transmit, but no communication.

The Ugly: The radio is very cheaply put together. The rechargeable battery pack is almost impossible to insert into the battery compartment. While trying to insert it, I broke one of the battery poles in the battery compartment. I was able to repair it with some solder and glue, but I wouldn't try to remove and re-insert it. If you use AA batteries only, it shouldn't be a problem. They are easy to insert. I also tried to remove the belt clip from the radio in order to have clear access to the battery compartment. There is a little tab on the belt clip that keeps the clip on the radio, you need to pull that tab to release it off the radio. Well, the first time I pulled the tab, it broke off. After that, the clip wouldn't stay on the radio. All this experience even before I started using the radio made me conclude that this is not a well-constructed radio, and does not deserve the Motorola brand. I am returning it and I will look at the commercial grade ones instead (such as the CP200).

I am in the military, currently deployed and purchased this radio to use as a second form of communication among our squad. Although the set works, its range is smaller, its batteries do not last as long, and its about twice the size as other Motorola sets. In fact both of my radios often miss traffic that everyone else picks up. I would recommend looking at another Motorola radio before you waste your money on this.

I recently got these radios for Christmas and I am pretty impressed. They are easy to use with very clear sound. I previously had a set of Motorola 2 mile radios and in comparison, the T7100Rs work 100x better. I just got back from a vacation in Disney World and found these radios to be extremely handy. In the group of people we were traveling with we had my two 7-miles, and 4 2-miles. No matter where you were in the park you could always hear who had the 7-mile radios which wasn't always the case with the 2-miles. The only draw back was that they were just a little bit bitter than the normal Motorola radios. If you are buying these radios expecting to use them over any 7 mile terrain, don't. When they test the distance, they do so in some flat part of the dessert. I think these radios are great and would recomend them to any casual user wanting a little extra range.

my dad bought 2 sets of these and i bought one. two of his broke when he tried putting the rechargable battery in. and one of mine broke. the ones we got the battery into without ruining the radio we were not impressed with .. very poor sound quality. I hope motorola recalls this radio. I would encourage anyone to avoid this radio.

Depending on the use you would give to the radios they are very functional and cool to use. I use them with my informatic team and we work in a four stories building. Great reception in about 4 kilometers. Great accesory!

Cobra CPI 1575 1500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter

Cobra CPI 1575 1500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter
  • 1500 Watts Continuous Power, 3000 Watts Peak Power
  • Three grounded AC receptacles and 5-Volt USB output
  • LED function/status meter
  • Remote on/off capable for easy control when installed out of reach
  • Two-year limited warranty

This review is in response to some comments regarding wire and fuse size selections for this inverter and others like it.

In response to other review quoting a table from the National Electric Code (NEC). While the table that was posted is correct for 115VAC (household voltage) is does not translate directly to 12VDC (automotive voltage). When dealing with a 12 volt system there is less concern with wires overheating, at least in the way that the NEC considers it, and far more concern with voltage drop. When running wiring a reasonable distance (a couple hundred feet or so) there is little concern with voltage drop with AC power. But when dealing with DC, simply increasing your wiring distance 5-10' can have a drastic effect on voltage drop. That is why this inverter should be wired with, at the very least, #4 wire and really should be installed with #2 or thicker, especially if you need to run wire 15 or 20 feet or more.

The purpose of a fuse in a DC system is to protect the rest of your electrical system in the event of a short. That is why you always want to install your fuse as close to the battery as possible (no more then 3' if you can help it). As far as the amperage goes, there is a really good quick reference chart for automotive wire size that can be found at Tessco's web site here:[Turns out I can't link to an outside page so I'll paste the contents of the table at the bottom]. But to boil it down, you can safely fuse a 12VDC circuit at 150, or 200 amps, or more on #4, #2 or #0 wire.

Now this unit at full load is something like 85% efficient. So if you do the math -1500 Watts / 12 Volts / .85 efficiency = ~147 amps, A 150 AMP FUSE IS REQUIRED. If you take peak power into account you would need to double that to a 300 amp fuse, but because the inverter cannot run at peak power for more then a moment, a slow-blow 150amp fuse may work just fine, or perhaps you could step up a 200amp. I wouldn't go all the way to a 300 amp fuse unless you really found that you needed it and had the inverted is wired in such a way that it could handle that level current (read: installed using very heavy gauge wire). Now if your vehicle is running while your inverter is working the amperage will be a little lower because your dealing with 14.4 VDC rather then 12 volts (watts = volts x amps -oramps = watts / volts). But at the very least, a 150 amp ANL fuse is very good idea and not at all over sized.

Just a FYI on fuses, most car stereos are installed with AGU style fuses, but they only go up to 100 amps.

You will need an ANL style fuse to get one rated at 150 amps or more. See these links for examples:

12V 4 Ah Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery for DIGITAL SECURITY CONTROLS DSC BD4-12

12V 4 Ah Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery for DIGITAL SECURITY CONTROLS DSC BD4-12I needed this battery for the backup system in my house alarm. I knew that the alarm company charges $70 for a service call, so I decided to see if I could find one for sale. Of course, Amazon came through, and their partner Arrowhead Company also came through. I ordered the battery on Monday, and it arrived ahead of schedule on Wednesday, saving me the price of a service call, and likely a higher price for the battery. If this one lasts as long as the last one, I'll be really happy.

My old battery worked in security system at least five years until yellow light appeared on the touchpad. I ordered this new one, it was shipped pretty fast. I received thing in four days. I connected battery to where it belongs, in few hours yellow light went off... so it works for now. How good this battery will be? I can tell you in five years, just wait a little...

Was happy to find this on Amazon, a visit to our local "electronics superstore" turned up nothing. The battery in our home alarm system was dying (and setting off the alarm every 12 hours, tons of fun). Thankfully this arrived in a few days and did the trick. It took about 12 hours for the "system battery low" warning to stop, I think the system had to reset itself. Oh, and we totally had to get a locksmith to open the alarm box after losing the key. Awesome.

I purchased this as a replacement for the original Garmin cable which was lost. I thought it would be long enough as it says it's 8 feet long. That must be the length stretched out. The problem is that the coiled cable is only 2 feet long and very springy. The constant stretching to try to reach the windshield weakened the connector and the wire pulled out. So now I have to purchase another adapter. I don't recommend this product.

The original car charger that Garmin supplies is terrible. It emitted a high pitched whine, constantly needed to be jiggled to maintain a connection in the 12VDC socket, and had a much too long uncoiled cord that got in the way all the time. This one works great and is neat thanks to its short coiled cord. I have two complaints: the blue power indicator LED is way too bright. At night I need to cover it up with something. WAY too bright. And the connector that plugs into the GPS unit should be at 90 degrees, not a straight 180 degrees. The straight connector will eventually weaken and break (this is my second replacement charger the first one lasted about a year and a half). But still the best one available and can't beat the price.

PowerFilm 50W Foldable Solar Panel Charger

PowerFilm 50W Foldable Solar Panel ChargerI will clarify this one. I did call manufacturer to confirm this, Powerfilm does *NOT* manufacture a 50 watt panel. They did manufacture a batch of 60 watt panels that did not meet output specification and instead of throwing them out, they printed some new product labels and derated them to 50W. The physical specifications are identical to that of the 60W (size weight etc), but output is less, the actual measured output from these typically varies between 50-60W. The 60W panels usually have a MINIMUM output of 60W. Unless you need a guaranteed 60W (3.5-3.6A), these are being sold at half the cost per watt of a 60W panel. You could literally buy two for the same price of a 60W and get at least 100W output. At the price, this is a no-brainer.

Unfortunately it looks like the price has jumped up a couple hundred dollars.

to those who bought it when it was $368 you got a deal.

I have used my 50W panel (bought 2) for a while and it has worked great.

Output on par with the Brunton Solaris which is more expensive.

This is not a correct itemlet me explain.

The photo indicates a 60w powerfilm panel.

If the photo is correct or not, powerfilm product line does not offer a 50w version of the folding panels.

So it begs the question: What is it? Well I did not order it just to find out (I do have every model available).

My guess: it is a 60w version that has less than rated output, and perhaps powerfilm company is liquidating them for that reason, but I am only speculating. So if someone actually purchases this item, give some feedback please!

-Unfortunate that amazon does not facilitate contacting the seller like ebay before purchase.

BUT: if it is powerfilm, it is very highly rated by me. If it is powerfilm it will output 16volts, and at 50watts (if indeed it is 50w) the current will be about 3 amps. Again it is distressing that this information is not published, along with the model (which all powerfilm products have).

Furthermore: The WEIGHT of this item correlates with the 60w version (model F15-3600)

That's my 2cents worth.
