I have relatives that live in areas of extreme weather. I thought that this would be a good gift for them in case they can't get to a T.V. or other device such as a cell phone to alert them of bad weather as in hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards. We (my mother and I)sleep a little easier at night knowing that they have something to alert them in case of emergency.

Waterproof PWM LS2024RP Solar Panel Charge Controller Regulator 12/24V 20A

Waterproof PWM LS2024RP Solar Panel Charge Controller Regulator 12/24V 20A
  • 12/24V automatic recognition
  • Widely used, automatically recognize day/night.
  • Digital LED menu, only one key solve all setting simply
  • Intelligent timer function with 1-15 hours option
  • Gel, Sealed and Flooded battery type option.

I originally got this to be used with a portable 200 Watt system using 2=100 Watt 12V panels. It is water resistant, but water could get into the unit around the wire entry points.

Here are a few problems I have with it. It starts the charge cycle every day trying to "equalize" my RV batteries (2=6V series Trojan T105RE @12V) the voltage it tries to maintain for about 2 hours regardless of the charge state of my batteries is 14.8V. Then it drops to 14.4-6V for 30min or so. Then it "floats" at 13.8V. The main problem is that the "boost" and/or "equalize" is often too short, or too long. This cycle is "dumb" and only on a timer, but it doesn't seem to care if your batteries need more charge or not, and won't provide more if they do, nor less if they don't. The indicator light on this controller might show a "full charge" but the controller continues to charge too much sometimes, but most often not enough, leaving the batteries under charged and requiring me to use another charger to actually bring them up to full charge, using a hydrometer as a charge indicator to actually determine the charge state.

The float voltage would be too high from this controller for my batteries which should be 13.2V, and the equalize voltage would be too low from this controller, I need 15.2+V and using this controller I noticed 1 cell in my batteries was already developing a drop in voltage after using this controller 2 months or less. (not equalized, but my other charger seemed to remedy this)

I did not use the light timer feature for load control (I was interested mostly in the "waterproof" part), so I can't comment on this feature.

So for intermittent emergency use it might be okay, and it might work okay if you have better math than I do and can perfectly match your panels/batteries/load to only require 2-3 hours of full charge, such as a driveway light system or something... but its not very good for variable loads and uses such as an RV.

I didn't get enough rain to really test the waterproof part, but I did use it outside hooked to the back of my panels which I moved around the yard chasing the sun. The wires on this unit appear close to 10 gauge but may be 12, it is China built, but comes with instructions easy enough to understand in super tiny print I need a magnifying glass to read.

I will be replacing this unit with something else that is "smarter" so I don't have to be. :)

Clarion EZ58TMCPK Bluetooth Interface with NAVRDS

Clarion EZ58TMCPK Bluetooth Interface with NAVRDS
  • Easy-to-use navigation unit with 4.3" TFT Touch Screen display and rechargeable battery
  • Simple destination input, turn-by-turn voice prompts, text-to-speech operation and selectable route guidance with 12 million Points of Interest preloaded
  • Built-in Bluetooth Hands-free (HFP) and Audio Streaming (A2DP & AVRCP) support
  • Play back MP3/WMA files and view JPEG/BMP images from SD/MMC cards up to 4GB
  • One-year limited warranty

I picked up one of these EZD580s about a week ago. In the box are the unit, car-mounting hardware, a USB-to-mini USB cable and some instructions sheets. I would think that it will be great and A-OK because it seems to work well. It came out of the box with the battery at 81% charged. But this is where I get stuck. It comes with a directions sheet for mounting the unit in your car, and a Quick Start guide for routing and street directions. But nothing in any of the included reference material tells one how long to charge, or recharge, the battery, or if there is an AC Charger available for this unit. I konw that the USB-to-mini USB cable is for charging the unit on your computer, but how long do you charge it? On the Clarion website, there is a "Product Manual" available for download. I downloaded and printed the "Product Manual" and guess what in the entire 71 pages, there is not one word regarding the charging and recharging of the battery, and also nothing about an AC Cahrger. The Product Manual does go into precise detail on how to select route guidance and street directions, the device's settings, etc. But nothing on step number 1 charging the battery! The battery charging issue aside, though, this is a real good unit. It has a big screen with easy to read text and numbers. You can use the included stylus or use your fingers to access the various menu items. When I initially turned it on, it took about a minute or two (which is normal for GPS devices) to locate the GPS signal. Once it locked in on the signal, it was easy rollin'. Entering your destinations, referencing the Points Of Interest, etc., are fairly intuitive, making this GPS unit fairly easy to use without getting an advanced scientific degree. On the negative side, support from Clarion is absolutely NON-EXISTANT. Calling the telephone numbers on the Clarion website results in a literal circle of recorded messages.

FYI, I operated this unit in Seattle, Washington and some in L.A.

Well I decided to be nice and give this unit a review of 2 Stars (I don't like it) when I was tempted to give it a 1 Star (I hate it) due to it's complete uselessness after about a month. After a while, this unit proved itself to be a lemon and completely worthless for getting anywhere (detailed explanation below). It worked fine for a month and I was excited that I had gotten a winning product.

Then the "out of memory" errors started. After about the first 2 maybe 3 of these errors, I thought it would just go away or just be a small nuisance. I was dead wrong.

OUT OF MEMORY

It got so bad in the weeks following that first month that it would freeze up and display critical "out of memory" errors every 30 seconds to 2 minutes while I was on a route. What's worse is it would slow WAY down before the error happened so I had to wait until the error happened before it would reboot itself so I could use the 20 or so seconds of directions before it slowed WAY down again until the imminent "out of memory" error reoccurred. Also, I needn't fail to mention that the reboot took a solid 2 minutes before I could get my directions back again.

FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITY DRAWBACKS

Besides the short battery life mentioned above and the maps being incomplete (both mentioned above in "Cons" section), another frustration with this unit is that it doesn't support SD cards larger than 4GB? Are you serious, Clarion? Did you design this unit to be used 9 years ago (when SD cards were invented, in 2001)?

What's worse about the memory situation is that, according to a rep at Clarion, the unit doesn't even store maps and other important and functional history on a SD card; it uses the memory that came with the unit which is 2GB. I have to visit clients all over the Seattle area and revisit them, so it would be nice to have a nice long history of all the places I've been without worrying about using up the 2GB.

Oh, by the way, before I even called Clarion I thoroughly went through every function and feature in the settings of the unit to figure out if the "out of memory" was warranted or maybe something I could adjust; and I tried resetting the device along with CLEARING THE MEMORY and of course nothing solved it.

So, buying a SD card (not much of an upgrade though being you can only add 4GB to 2GB) only makes it so you can put pictures and music on your GPS device. It would be much better to be able to use the SD card to store all the other critical mapping things since this is, after all, a GPS unit first and a multimedia player second.

CONCLUSION AND FURTHER NOTES ABOUT CLARION'S AFTER SALE SUPPORT

I didn't even delve into the super short battery life of 15-30 minutes (note also that this battery is only a few months old with minimal use) or talk much about the maps not having updated information. I will add, however, that it was on multiple occasions and not just an isolated experience or two that I got those messages about not finding an address or street (even though in most cases the streets and addresses had been in existence for more than 3 years). I even contacted TeleAtlas, the mapping software company who sold Clarion the software for this unit, and they will not produce updates for this unit. Everyone who buys this unit is apparently stuck with outdated maps indefinitely, and thus plumb out of luck.

Needless to say, I will be buying a unit with NAVTEQ mapping software (which provides free updates for life for many of the GPS units they are on) and will only recommend a unit with TeleAtlas maps if they ever decide to be more helpful to their paying customers.

So, I'm currently waiting through my second 2-week time-frame for my unit to be "fixed" by Clarion. The first time I sent it back I had high hopes that it would come back and work. Again, I was dead wrong. Not only did they not address the other issues I told them about; they didn't even fix the main "out of memory" issue that had rendered this unit usable. This 2nd time, I pleaded with the Clarion rep to replace this obvious lemon with a working unit and he insisted on doing it "by the book" and said that I would be getting the same unit back after they try to "fix" it again.

I can't risk going through yet another 2 weeks without the use of my GPS unit (since I use it everyday for my business), so I officially give up on Clarion and I'm getting a NAVTEQ unit, probably the Garmin Nuvi 265WT if it doesn't do the shutting down thing during inclement weather some people have had issues with. I can't in good conscience resell a lemon on eBay, so I'll probably just trash the Clarion and cut my losses.

Don't necessarily decide not to buy the Clarion EZD580 based on my experiences since it's possible that you could get a unit that doesn't go "out of memory" on ya and works fine for years. You could also have the same experience I did. Kind of a toss up.

Bare-Tool Makita BTW251Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Batt

Bare-Tool Makita BTW251Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench
  • Makita-built 4-pole variable speed motor provides superior fastening power with 170 ft./ lbs. of Max Torque, 0-2,100 RPM and 0-3,200 IPM
  • Compact, ergonomic design at 6-1/2 inches long; weighs only 3.7 lbs. for reduced operator fatigue
  • Features such as a built-in L.E.D. light that illuminates the work area, and a rugged tool belt clip
  • Makita LXT Lithium-Ion battery and Energy Star rated 30-Minute Rapid Optimum Charger produces 430% total lifetime work with 2.5X more cycles
  • 3-year warranty on tool

I don't know if I got a bad tool, but it was not very impressive at all. I also have a BTD144Z impact driver so I have something to compare it with. Side by side, the BTD144Z won by a landslide.

My BTD144Z only has 1,420 in.lbs (about 118 ft.lbs) of torque compared with this model BTW251Z which is supposed to deliver 170 ft.lbs. However, the BTW251Z would not easily remove my lugnuts which were freshly torqued to 80 ft.lbs, while my BTD144Z easily removed them. To do this test, I put a 1/4" to 1/2" adapter on my BTD144Z impact driver and then a 1/2 drive impact socket could be used on it. The BTW251Z will remove the lugnuts, but it takes about twice as long (or longer). I expected it to be the other way around where my BTD144Z should take longer because it has less torque ratings.

Next test I did was to see if the BTW251Z can remove lugnuts torqued to 150 ft.lbs (by the way, I always use my torque wrench to torque the lugnuts so I know exactly how tight they are). I didn't expect my BTD144Z to be able to do it because it only has 118 ft.lbs rating but the BTW251Z obviously should be able to do so. The results: the BTD144Z was STILL able to remove the 150 ft.lb torqued lugnut (that in itself was amazing given the said torque rating would make me assume it was not supposed to be able to handle it). The BTW251Z could also do it. The difference? The BTW251Z would have to hammer on the lugnut for a few seconds before the lugnut finally came off. My BTD144Z removed it maybe about half the time or better.

But again, I don't know if I simply got a defective tool and maybe others out there don't notice the same performance issue I found. I expected the BTW251Z to easily remove the nuts compared with my BTD144Z, but that just wasn't the case. The only thing I have to say is it's better to use an impact gun with the built-in 1/2 anvil rather than using the 1/4" to 1/2" adapter like I did on my BTD144Z because I can feel a lot more vibration on the BTD144Z as it pulls off the lugnuts. I don't think it's good for the tool's longevity. I will have to say, the BTW251Z has a more solid feel when removing lugnuts off as there is much less vibration, so I know the tool is better fit for such applications. Also, there is no complaints about the build quality as it feels and looks exceptional. However, I will probably stick to screws and lagbolts for the BTD144Z and find another solution for my lugnuts as this BTW251Z was no improvement to what I already have.

Important note: a fresh battery makes a big difference!

I wanted to try out my new tool the moment it arrived, so I pulled the battery out of my hammer-drill, slapped it in and tried to remove a lug nut (that was tightened by Sears tire dept using air tools.) As it hammered for several seconds I thought what the hell?

Then I replaced the battery with one fresh off the charger, tried again and bam, it was off the lug and spinning freely faster than I could think about it. I went all the way around the car and effortlessly took 2 nuts off of each tire.

The moral to the story is, battery matters! Just because the tool will still turn doesn't mean you'll get max torque. If it has difficulty with a fastener, replace the battery, it could change things substantially.

As for side-by-side tests against lesser-rated Makita impact tools, those can be considered valid *only* if the same battery was used in both tools, otherwise there is no way to know whether an equal amount of power was provided for each tool.

In short, this is a very impressive tool, it's small and light enough to use in a lot of places, and every bit as powerful as Makita claims, with a fresh battery.

Very powerful, easily removes 100 lb-ft torqued lugnuts. Also, very compact. Another super product from Makita.

I am extremely happy with this impact wrench. I searched for a while to find an impact wrench that is reliable and quality product and at the same time provides enough power to loosen the lug nuts. Most of the impact wrenches I found in the market are too heavy and run out of battery very quickly. However, this one holds the battery for a long time. Unlike most of Impact wrenches which are made in China, this impact wrench was made in JAPAN.

A little too noisy, but practical. The new Li Ion battery is interchangeable with other Makita tools I own. Big advantage!

Car Kit Mp3 Player Wireless Fm Transmitter Modulator USB Sd MMC Slot with Remote

Car Kit Mp3 Player Wireless Fm Transmitter Modulator USB Sd MMC Slot with Remote
  • Car MP3 WMA Player/ FM transmitter, compact and fashional design.
  • Support SD/MMC memory card(Max 8GB) and USB flash drive (not included)
  • Charge your USB device through the USB port (Charging cable is not included)
  • Volume rotating button and power switch in one botton.
  • 7 built-in EQ: Normal, ROCK, POP, CLASSIC, Country, JAZZ, DBB.

This FM transmitter/modulator is a great tool with better looks and features than your average overpriced name brand transmitter. Its a bit smaller than it looks in the pictures which is a + to me. As far as the material, the plastic is not the most rugged but it's not easy to break either. The overall sound quality of both songs on the SD card and manual playback via my phone with the provided cable is superb, there is a minimal ammount of static or interference. I didn't test the USB option but I dont see why it would differ from SD card. The option to transmit the frequency of your choosing unlike other devices which offer only a few stations was very impressive to me. This is a sleek, performance device for the price and am very happy to own it.

First thing to do: Unscrew end of connector. Take rubber piece and toss in trash then replace fuse with one in bag. The rubber piece will make it impossible to remove from car and can damage the connection of the FM transmitter. I'm tellin ya it was almost impossible to remove! If for some reason it's really lose in your car when plugged in then dig out of trash. :P However I have never seen any car device have a rubber piece like that though and it plugs in nice and tight without it.

I use it with my phone. You just plug the 3.5mm audio cable into the audio jacks and you're good to go. The USB port keeps the phone juiced too. All you do is pick a clear station on your Stereo and device. Simple as that. Press the Volume Knob to turn the on screen display on and off. That's all there is to it if you're using it with your phone.

On the downsize you can't use the remote or controls on the unit to change stations on your phone. Or use just the usb cable for audio playback like some Stereos support. These are minor nitpicks though. I could be wrong. I will play with it some more and if anything changes I will update this review.

If you do have MP3s on your phone you can play them though the FM Transmitter by enabling mass storage on your phone. However since I mainly stream audio I haven't tried this but I'm sure it will work as once enabled it has your phone act as a usb storage device.

All in all this is a solid FM Transmitter. It looks good and works well. Of course it would be awesome if it had other wiz bang features like using the remote to skip songs (Course this is a IR remote and not RF so it might not be a good idea anyways while driving since you'd have to point it at the FM Transmitter.) and maybe Blue-Tooth support but it's still better than some of the other FM Transmitters I have seen for sale and the price for what you get is great!

Lack of documentation is kinda lame but the back of the box shows the basic features and it's simple enough to use. I'd also suggest a retractable 3.5mm audio cable for less clutter.

This FM Transmitter acts as both an FM transmitter for your MP3 player to radio, as well as acting as an MP3 player in itself. It is basically offers 3 way compatibility with an external source via 1/8" input jack (i.e. iPod or any other MP3 player) or acts as an MP3 player itself by reading an SD card or a flash drive (has a usb input and an input for a standard SD card). The player comes with a very handy remote and if you are using the SD or USB/flash drive you can easily toggle through folders. It has its own volume control, and also emits a fairly powerful signal to reduce static and has a digital selection from 88-108 on the FM dial. It is easy to use, has a nice display that shows the song and other info.

To me, the most important feature of an FM transmitter for playing MP3s in a car is signal strength. There are lots of other quality transmitters available from near the price of this model upwards to 50 dollars and more, however they generally have the same functionality, perhaps maybe a larger display or a flexible extension from the input base, but for the expensive ones you are generally paying more for the brand and not the most important things, first being more signal strength (which tops out at a certain level anyway due to FCC regulations) and then being functionality like the SD card and usb options, remote, etc. Again this has all of that for a low price.

You'll be hard pressed to find another FM transmitter with this functionality and reliability for ANY cheaper, I've done tons of research and owned several. This is by far the best especially for the value. I use a 16 gig micro san disk SD card inside a standard adapter (I paid 12 dollars for the sandisk on amazon, bulk packaging) which holds A LOT of music and am always adding more from my PC. I can always hookup my iPhone, other MP3 player, or even a flash drive if I want and play music off of that.

If you don't have an auxillary jack on your car stereo, BUY THIS. It's by far the best FM transmitter for ten bucks and is practically as intuitive and multi-use as they get.

Other reviews claiming this is hard to use must be written by people who completely lack any tech savvy. It is very easy to use.

it looks nice, works better and the sound is really clear. I purchased this FM transmiter for my Audi and I never expected this clear sound from a small thing I use it everyday and I use it with a USB memory I got all my music in it and I change the songs using the control remote sometime I use the buttons on it but it is easier to use the control remote when you are driving. great deal.

This car kit was a little hard to figure out at first but once I got it working it was great. The rubber seal that goes around the lighter seems very tight and with the cheap, lightweight plastic, I was afraid the device would brake on me.

Maybe it should be easy for "normal" people to figure out, But I think it should come with some kind of instructions for operation.

The best feature is the usb plug. I put music on the flash drive and just plug it in the player. It plays my music great.

The worst feature is the wires that come with it,, They are to short. They need to be at least 6 inches longer so your zune player can sit on the seat. (I velcrowed my player so I can just stick it on my dash.

All in All, It's a darn good gadget and you won't be sorry.

HERE IS AN UPDATE after using this product for a month.

It does still work, but I have found it's difficult to set and adjust.

There is just way to many things I have found that makes this product NOT WORTH BUYING.

I would never buy again due to; IT HAS NO MANUAL so you know what your doing. The USB does NOT shuffle, (or if it does, I haven't figured out how).

After playing for an hour, I notice the "static" come's in bad. Maybe the product is getting to hot to play right?

After a month, I would NOT recommend buying this until the company encloses an owners manual.

I couldn't rate it with a full 5-star since I don't know how well it was built and how long it will last but my first impressions of it were good and functionality is rather promising. I was able to charge my car's battery without much fuss. I liked the amperage setting option and the fact that it cools itself while charging, a big plus. And price was fair. I felt the need to write this review after reading the one star review that was left by bmw7e32 which appears to be more of a rant than a review. Hopefully it will help anyone that is looking for some real info.

I would like to start off by saying that I am a mechanic and not affiliated with OTC, nor could you pay me enough to bethat's a story for another time.

The OTC Genisys can by purchased, fully equipped, for under $2000. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but consider what you would pay for factory software and equipmentit would be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Bmw7e32 purchased this tool after working in a shop that had multiple dealer level tools, not just common oem tools, but a BMW factory scan tool that retails for 10 times that of the otc genisys. I have to saywhat did he expect?

The battery issue that bmw7e32 is whining about does indeed suck It has terrible life. However, it can easily be resolved by purchasing a NiMh RC car battery pack from radio shack for a whopping $10.

Bmw7e32 quotes "I service mainly European, BMW & Mercedes". These euro cars are definitely where otc falls short. He is correct, in most cases, by saying that a basic OBDII scanner would give the same info that the genisys does on the euro cars. Personally, I service a large number of Audi and VW vehicles, and I would not even try to use the genisys on those, even though I do own the Euro software.

Now, where genisys really shines is on domestic and asian vehicles, particularly GM (They make the Tech II). Personally, the Genisys is my go to tool when I have either a domestic or asian vehicle come into the shop. The Genisys is very capable, able to access powertrain modules, body modules, ABS and SRS quite readily.

To all of you that are considering purchasing a scan toolTHERE IS NO SCAN TOOL THAT WILL DO EVERYTHING ON EVERY VEHICLE, NO MATTER WHAT THE LITERATURE SAYS. IT SIMPLY DOESN'T EXIST AND NEVER WILL.

If you are an entry level technician, the genisys is hard to beat. If you are lucky enough to have a larger budget, I would consider a Genisys, and if you can afford it, a modis for domestic vehicles. For Asian and Euro, the new X431 by Launch is very capable (Avoid the older ones and knockoffs). If you are like me and service VW and Audi vehicle, purchase a VCDS by ross-tech, you won't be disappointed.

Overall, I believe that the genisys is the best "bang for the buck".

I hope that I have been able to shine some light on the subject for those of you that are thinking about the Genisys.

I searched all over the internet to find an unbiased review of the Genisys EVO I never found one. I did find many positive reviews for the Genisys but you can also see that these "reviews" were from Genisys dealers. I'm a professional technician I've had the luxury of using dealership level diagnostic equipment (mainly BMW) I worked at a couple independents where they were equiped (again with dealer level, BMW GT-1's), Autologic and Launch scanners. For BMW, nothing beats the GT-1. Autologic comes very close, except it costs about $17,000 and you have to buy each manufacturer's software for huge $$$. I found the Launch to be spotty at best when trying to communicate with the cars. We had the old version of the x431, big, clunky and slow. Needless to say I wasn't thrilled with the Launch at all.

I was looking for a scanner for my start-up business I service mainly European, BMW & Mercedes. OTC's Genisys EVO claims to be near OEM level diagnostic abilities and their European upgrade appeared to have decent coverage. Well, I took the bait and purchased the EVO, ABS & Airbag + European upgrade.

First off, the rechargable battery is garbage the Genisys will be completely dead in about 2 days of non-use. This started the very first month I contacted OTC and they said it was my fault. That i wasn't properly charging battery I asked them to elaborate they gave me some song and dance that the unit has a parasitic draw and I had to charge it daily, but then they added that I shouldn't overcharge it because that would ruin the battery, too. I requested a replacement battery. They refused to replace the battery. STRIKE ONE

When you hook the EVO to the car, it uses power from the diagnostic port to power the unit, so I could still work around the dead battery issue. If the EVO is not powered down correctly or cable disconnects from port. At the next power-up the EVO goes into "file check" mode which takes about 5 minutes or longer the unit is unusable during this period and you can not override this function. A big time waster. STRIKE TWO.

European coverage is a JOKE very limited in the number of control modules. SAAB, Jaguar & Porsche OBDII only (the same coverage you can get with a $15 code reader)

Limited access asian and domestic. Communication problems galore. Coding?? None. STRIKE THREE. After a few months of frustration I sold it on eBay, took about $600 loss but I'm happy I'm rid of the piece of junk. I will never buy an OTC diagnostic tool ever again.

I ultimately purchased the Launch Diagun (fully loaded, Domestic, Euro and Asian) and am completely satisfied. The Launch Diagun is a huge improvement from the old Launch x431. It's faster, wireless, Full coverage, component activations and coding.

The bottom line...AVOID the OTC Genisys EVO spend the extra money and get the Launch Diagun (very expensive but worth it) Note: The Launch can only be purchased through authorized dealers. Launch is a Chinese product that has been copied from other companies in China (imagine that) there are lots of fakes on eBay AVOID THESE if the price seems too good to be true it's a fake. The Launch units here on Amazon are ligit.Launch Tech USA 301100119 X431 Diagun (F) Scan Tool

Ive used the genisys scan tools for a while now and i find that this product is well worth the money. I have used it mord for fords mainly when ids was not available and managed to diag problem very easily. Im not much of a european guy, dont like fidling with cars worth more than me so i cant say much as to how it performs in that area. I would recomend this tool for almost any one. It very easy to use if you have any common sence and pretty reliable.

I have used boat battery chargers on every big boat that I have owned. Some required very large systems, because they basically counted one(1)battery as a bank. I purchased this, not for my boat(I already have one on it), but for a back up to my solar charged 12 battery electric system(3 banks of 4 batteries).

I rewired both the solar charging system and the existing backup system to integrate it with this charger. Because it is probable, that batteries may be in use, even at night, I disabled the "Boost" 2nd stage of the charger, so that it would not be overcharging any of the battery banks. When overcharging they gas and boil out the electrolyte. With manual chargers, you have to sit right on them and make sure that they are not boiling over. The 1st "Bulk' Charge rate will take them to 80%, and the way that I have set the charger(manual explains how)it will then go to the third stage, "Float." All done, automatically.

Samlex makes great products and, 'they ain't cheap.' Amazon's vendor sells this cheaper than I have seen it, anywhere in this country. I was concerned that I might not be getting it when I was originally told that I would, but these good folks stepped up to the plate and got it to me exactly one day after it shipped. Incredible. This old, 'DIY Engineer' highly recommends both the Amazon partner and Samlex products.

The charger works perfectly. It has one ground (negative) terminal along with 3 positive terminals. The 3 stages (as I understand) will help prolong the life of a deep cycle battery. This charger has two dip switches that the user can adjust depending upon what type of battery is being charged.

I have the unit permanently mounted near my battery bank. The cord is run a couple of feet over to the receptacle. It is a tad bit inconvenient to pull the cord when I want to shut it down but I can live with that. I may be showing my ignorance by saying that it should have an on off switch. But that is the only thing negative that I have to say.

UPDATE Be aware that there are different models of these and Amazon lumps at least two of them together as item ASIN B002ECB0Q0. I bought another one from Bargaincell, it turned out to be extremely low quality, all cables broke at the connector molding within weeks. The first one I bought, from CrazyOnDigital is still working fine.

I bought this 8 in one FM transmitter car charger cradle for iPhone 3gs, Amazon item ASIN B002ECB0Q0.

The cradle holds the phone securely, the charger works fine, the FM transmitter works well, and the remote control works also. If the price wasn't so low, I may have given it fewer stars but this thing is a great value so I forgive its minor quirks. The cradle holds my phone in a good position in my '07 Civic, your vehicle may be different so consider your layout before ordering.

The cradle seems fairly robust, no phone slippage or cradle rotation in the lighter socket so far.

The FM transmitter can be set to any frequency on the dial. I've owned several transmitters and this one is the best. It works even on frequencies that have stations with weak signals on them, this is unusual for consumer FM transmitters. It may be that my unit is a particularly good one but hopefully all of these are good. The FM transmitter can be set to several preset stations and those can be selected with the remote control to avoid interference while traveling, this is a nice feature.

A downside to this unit with an iPhone is that it does not advertise it is shielded from GSM noise to the phone. When you plug it in, the phone says the device is not designed for iPhone and asks if you want airplane mode. If you leave the phone radio on, you will occasionally hear GSM interference on your radio speakers, not very loud though. To avoid that problem altogether, it also has an audio out 3.5mm port and comes with a six or eight inch cable to plug in to your car's aux port. This works fine if your car has one, no GSM noise at all.

Another downside is you have to point the remote at the top of the unit to get it to work, a small annoyance. It does not come with a manual. If you need one, pass this unit up.

For me, so far, so good I like this unit.

i brought this item twice already and both times it broke the same way the back piece that goes into the cigarette lighter broke in half was only good for a weak dont waste your money!

I can not say for sure that this item broke my iphone 3gs, but I plugged it in because of a low battery. I tried to pick it up to make a call at the end of my drive, the phone wouldn't turn on. Phone was under warranty, so no hard feelings. Throwing the charger away though.

Duracell 813-0281-07 100 Watt DC to AC Pocket Power Inverter

Duracell 813-0281-07 100 Watt DC to AC Pocket Power InverterI bought this unit because it has a cord on the 12 volt end so that it can be plugged into our tightly quartered cigarette lighter outlet. It also meets my power needs. Be aware, this is really only an 80 watt unit that handles 100 watts for no more than a couple of minutes. At 80 watts it will draw about 6 to 7 amps from the lighter, or accessory outlet so be sure the outlet can handle it. Our new car has three such outlets but only the lighter outlet is really up to the task (15 amps or about 15A * 14V = 210 watts). The others are fine for devices that draw only a little power like a GPS, cell phone, MP3 player, etc.

The unit has a small fan inside that comes on when the electronics inside get too warm. Be sure not to block the vent slots in the case, especially the circular ones on the bottom since this is the only intake for the fan. I don't find the fan too loud, being just barely perceptible when it comes on while I'm driving. Mine feels solid, well made, is simple to use and does what it's suppose to.

It is 100 W 0.8 A for 5 minutes only, all the rest of the time is 80W 0.65 A. Consider this when buying it.

It is made by a company called XANTREX in china for DURACELL.

On the picture is looking better than actual.

The unit is well made and the long cord adds to its flexibility. The cord is actually 35" long.

It powered my Dell Studio Laptop with Earthmate GPS unit flawlessly on a recent 1000 mile trip. It didn't get overly warm and it is quiet.

The laptop is rated at 75 watts.

On/off button means you don't have to unplug when you stop.

With this unit you only need an AC charger for your cell phone.

I am very happy with this unit.

We received this solar panel today. It was $14 less than the Sunforce 5-watt panel we ordered, but it had extra accessories, including something you can plug in to see if it is charging properly. It arrived well packed and in perfect condition. It is such a good deal, I am ordering another one.

Buy Go Power! GP-SF-5 SUNfilm 5 Watt Solar Panel Now

I've already been using the Sunforce 5-watt panel so I thought I'd give this one a try for 20 bucks less : )

Out of the box the packaging is fine. Mine was a bit messy and looked like it might have been used/returned but it works so I don't care.

In most respects it is identical to the Sunforce but there are differences.

1) the Sunforce is quite a bit heavier. The casing is thicker and it weighs about twice as much. Does this mean one is tougher than the other? Not sure but it's worth noting that there is a noticeable difference. Both are behind windshields so I'm not worried about it.

2) the Go-Power has the same alligator clips and male cig lighter plug as the Sunforce BUT they toss in a little LED to prove the panel is still producing power. I use a volt meter so I don't need the LED but hey...it's there if you need it. BTW, the LED will also work for the Sunforce and any others that use the standard quick disconnects.

3) the Go-Power also includes a quick disconnect that ends in bare wires (they are cut off but not exposed). I don't need that for something that only produces 5 watts but I'll take it as I use those for all kinds of crazy projects with my large panels and trickle chargers.

Probably the most noticeable difference is the output. I laid the Go-Power and Sunforce side by side in the driveway, flat on the ground. Sun was heading down but still bright out so not the BEST situation for power but my goal was to compare the panels against each other.

Using my volt meter, the Sunforce put out 19.4 volts and the Go-Power 20.5. In case it had something to do with which one was on the left or right...I switched places and the same result. The Go-Power put out slightly more juice.

I'm not saying that if I tried another Sunforce it wouldn't be 21 volts...just saying of the two I have, those are the readings I got.

I've been using my Sunforce for a few months in my rarely-driven passenger van and it's done a great job. The Go-Power is going into my s-10 blazer that also rarely gets out of the driveway. I'm expecting the same positive results.

I have a short in my car somewhere causing a slow drain on the battery.

I decided to give this a try as a temporary fix as I don't have time to take my car in due to the work schedule.

I was hoping for something that would keep a charged battery topped off, but I plugged it into the cigarette lighter and stuck the panel on the dashboard and found the same cloudy day my battery actually got a bit of charged back from completely dead. Two days later the engine tried to turn, and it's now charged to the point of being able to start in the winter on day three. Remarkable.

I was hoping for something to prolong the charge a bit until I could take the car in, and I have a relatively small panel that is charging a battery from dead.

Great price as well. Definitely recommended.

I bought this to keep the deep cycle battery charged up for my trailer. The battery had run down from disuse and looked at all sorts of chargers that ranged from $30-120 most were chargers that you need to plug into power. A solar panel was suggested and after checking reviews I bought the SUNfilm 5 watt. It really was a "plug and play". It charged the battery up to full charge in less than a day. Couldn't be happier.
